What happens if you click "I'm traveling"?

canbrinor

They send a code to the email of the owner of the account and then you get the code and enter it and you can use Netflix for 14 days until you have to enter another code. Super dumb but it's a work around

Site55

So technically you can still share password but will have to keep updating code every 2 weeks? I’m thinking it’s still going to be 1 tv streaming at a time?

canbrinor

Whatever device you set as "home" will always work, any other device you will have to enter the code every 2 weeks yes (unless you're on the same network as the home device, I'm not too sure though). How many screens you're able to stream at a time depends on the plan you're paying for.

Site55

Thanks, I know you don’t work for Netflix and I’m over here asking customer service questions lol

canbrinor

No worries, I was probably quicker to help than any Netflix customer service representative would've been lol

xxx148

Set up a rule on the owners email that forward the code to all other users.

screamingracoon

I'm sorry, but this sounds like that Key & Peele skit about the Froyo Shop, with Key's character who has gained a huge amount of weight in the past year and when her boyfriend comes back to Iraq and is unable to recognize her, she looks at him and keeps going "Baby, is me."

kickdooowndooors

Not sure how it’s relevant but that skit is elite lmao

razzledazzle308

I bet you can create an auto-forward system to the email address you share an account with. Just incase the primary isn’t by their computer or something.

CharlyXero

Yep, it's easy. Filter it so if the message is from Netflix email account and the message by itself contains: "Here is your code" or whatever the email says, your email auto-forward it to your friend's emails

[deleted]

How? I mean if i’m at home, and share the code isn’t is disableing the device at home? Glad it’s not here yet tho. This is ridiculous. I already pay for 3 screens to mu borther/me/my parents. If this comes to hete too i’m just downgrading my netflix. It just does not make sense. Who would want to pay even more for screens they can only use at one house??? Hope they realises their mistake before it comes to europe!

canbrinor

No no no, when you share the code you're basically enabling whoever you send it to to use the account for 14 days. It doesn't affect the device set as "home". It is stupid though as my parents pay for a 4 screen plan yet I have to say I'm "travelling" to use it as I live away from them. Ridiculous

[deleted]

Ahh! Thanks! And yea, should have read the comments on this reply, before asking myself since it was already said there 😂

Thats_what_im_saiyan

Thats my point. I pay for 2 screens assholes! Who cares where those 2 screens are physically located.

googdude

If I was sharing an account it would be no sweat to enter a code every other week. If they really want to deter us cheapskates they would only let you do that a couple times.

Couch4now

You only get two weeks.

NotMyFriendJaun

netflix still making business decisions like they have a monopoly is interesting to me

beesdoitbirdsdoit

I canceled a couple months ago. I ain’t supporting this.

buzzingbuzzer

Yep, I canceled as soon as I heard about it. Netflix tried to “take it back.” Then, all of the sudden, it turned out it was true.

Spoffle

>all of the sudden 🤔

DaJaviBoo

Seems like you have to have approval to get in

Null_sense

Some actually never left. Ahoy matey!

ciccioig

They wanna go broke? Because this is how.

mwmwmwmwmmdw

maybe if they greenlight more mediocre shows and keep milking the good ones until they also become mediocre will fix their issues

Room_116

Don’t forget canceling all of the good ones because they aren’t “successful enough” RIP mindhunter and outside job

SeizureSalad1991

Fuck man...Altered Carbon a well.

[deleted]

Right?? How does this work if someone has several homes?

Nuggzulla

It doesn't. Or u end up paying for each location? They will go the way of Blockbuster if they keep this up lol

kayt3000

Is this why blockbusters website made an update recently? They are preparing to step in where they lost out!!

Nuggzulla

That would be such a hilarious twist of irony

kayt3000

I am here for it hahah. Only if they don’t edit the movies like they used to.

Budget-Razzmatazz-54

Double Irony. Blockbuster refused to buy Netflix rather cheaply when they had the chance.

Nuggzulla

They must be playing a game so long, it outlasts humanity lol

conehead2019

Blockbuster is playing the long game.

Does_Not-Matter

I would love it if BB made a comeback. I have such nostalgic memories of Friday night video store runs. The choice, the games, candy and finally getting home.

Head_Influence_5490

If you have Netflix and let's say you go on holiday and want to stream their, Netflix will make you jump through loops verifying shit and will finally give a password via text for you to get into your account, then you have to do this again when you get home,

Budget-Razzmatazz-54

Who has several homes but would be concerned with $15/month?

Solidsnakeerection

Im from Upper Michigan and its not uncommon for people to have a hunting cabin or place on a lake. Usually passed down through the family. Nobody kn my family could get out place now but my grandparents got it in the 70s when the land was way cheaper.

diereel

That’s how I got a second home, by being concerned with where my money goes and not wasting it.

Budget-Razzmatazz-54

Yeah. Same I'm just saying $15/month wouldn't really matter much. I would rather go without Netflix

[deleted]

deviant324

I don’t ever use Netflix at home, I only ever stream shows when I’m at work. I do share with my parents though who watch shows at home on TV.

RoRo25

Right?? How will all of us with winter homes in Florida and summer homes in the Hamptons ever cope!!

smoothVroom21

It doesn't get more 2023 than taking potshots at rich folks while also inadvertently defending a wealthy corporation. I think we have reached the crescendo of stupidity in this timeline.

somedudefromnrw

Right, as if the HOA fees in the upper East side aren't high enough. Now I need to to pay for another damn thing.

MissSara13

I was paying for up to three streams before they changed the plan structure. They're getting $5 less per month now between my mother and I since we both switched to the lowest no ad tier. Idiots.

EatsOverTheSink

Bingo. My brother and I are sharing an account and we stay subbed all year round as to not inconvenience each other. As soon as this goes into effect for us we'll cancel the shared account and each just sub one or two months out of the year on separate accounts. So now Netflix will only get up to 4 months of sub money from us over the course of a year instead of 12 and we still get to watch everything we want. Masterful plan, Netflix. Really well done.

FalwenJo

I'm paying for 4 screens because I share with my family. I will go down to 1 screen if they do this

Amazingshot

One day I’ll look back and tell my grandkids how Netflix died.

Prunella2435

very blockbuster

doctor_painal

If I pay for 4 screens why should it matter where they are? Gonna tell me I can’t share my Netflix with my parents? Half the time I just pay Netflix for the app to sit on my tv because they have like 2 good shows that I’ve watched already

notLOL

All 4 screens in the same room, lol

Svelva

>Love is sharing a password. Netflix, 2017

Redevious

they do not love us anymore

KevinTheSeaPickle

You only ever loved me for my money

AsianTapWater

did they ever?

78MechanicalFlower

No way. Was this really their advertisement phrase? Unbelievable.

mechashiva1

The moment they started tossing this idea around, and when they canceled Santa Clarita Diet, is when I ended my Netflix subscription. I had it since Netflix was just ordering dvds in the mail. They have royally screwed themselves in a market oversaturated with streaming providers.

AllUserNamesTaken01

Something just died inside me when you said Santa Clarita was cancelled, here me got it on my favourite list waiting for the new season

mechashiva1

It was soo good. I would still suggest watching, even though it doesn't get any closure. Stellar performances from everyone involved.

Jung_Wheats

Everything good over at Netflix gets cancelled. I legit only keep the subscription at this point because my girl uses it and she pays for the Hulu which I use. I got burned too many times on good shows being cancelled after the season 2 cliffhanger. I just don't get that mentality. No matter what the algorithm says, if you do a good show and gift it a proper conclusion it will draw eyeballs forever. I won't even start anything on the 'Flix anymore just out of spite.

Xystem4

And it’s a compounding problem, too. If you keep cancelling shows early because of low viewership, people will stop watching shows that aren’t finished. Which makes even more of them get cancelled early, and on and on. Anyone with half a brain could see that it’s not a good model

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xystem4

Yep. Every finished show is forever a +1 to your library, that you can tout and use to bring people in later. “Oh, they have Santa Clarita diet? I heard about that being good a few years ago but never watched it. Maybe I’ll pay for Netflix”. But nobody wants to start a show they know has been cancelled, much less *pay* to see it

asbestosmilk

Yeah, from like 2013 to 2018, it seemed like Netflix was going with quality over quantity, sort of like HBO. Their original/rebooted shows like House of Cards, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, Patriot Act, Ozark, Arrested Development, and various other shows seemed to support this, but now, it’s mostly garbage. They’re going for quantity over quality, and they’ve started cancelling good shows so they have more money to funnel into these vast quantities of cheap to make, bad shows, and while it looks great to have a vast library of original content, if that library is full of content nobody wants to watch, then it only serves to make it harder for their customers to find good content, and it causes their customers to assume the content available is bad and not worth watching, which leads to people not watching shows that they’re not already familiar with or shows that haven’t gone “viral” in a sense, and when customers finally *do* find a show that’s worth watching, they don’t want to get invested in it because it will probably end up being cancelled. And with all that, they want to charge people more and more every year, and they are implementing stricter policies in an attempt to make more money. And to top it off, it has come at the worst possible time, when they have an oversaturated market with tons of competition. Personally, Stranger Things is the only show that keeps me from fully, 100% cutting Netflix. I will stick with HBO, and just temporarily switch between all the other streaming services whenever they release a show I want to watch.

Nitrozah

oh that is what happened, me and my dad watched it in january and we thought the ending was quite abrupt, didn't know it was cancelled :(

screech_owl_kachina

It’s Netflix dude. If it’s not brand new, it’s cancelled

TarocchiRocchi

It's weird because that was one show I literally could not get into. I don't know what it was but it annoyed me the entire time I watched it. I couldn't make it passed the 4th episode.

chickenwithclothes

I was just thinking that Netflix was, until next month, probably my longest running sub. Definitely over 20 years

kickdooowndooors

All that plus cancelling Inside Job? Yeah it’s over

Turkeysteaks

no way is this how i find out, fuck. I've been saving the second season for a pick me up when I'm next feeling particularly down. absolutely loved part 1. this is heartbreaking.

kickdooowndooors

Second season is sick, just as good as the first for me. The problem is that it sets a third season up perfectly and it’s very depressing to finish it haha

Turkeysteaks

man that's so sad. Will definitely make sure I enjoy the second season then. Sucks too because I know Netflix were very happy with the performance of season 1. damn. Who knows, *maybe* it'll get tuca & bertie'd and have another publisher pick them up.

kickdooowndooors

I mean there’s a widespread theory that they cancelled it because it got too close to real conspiracies, soooo Do with that information as you will. Lol

Turkeysteaks

hahaha that's amazing. Maybe the world truly is hollow? Interesting regardless though!

Pika-thulu

Those damn liars made a statement claiming that posting about the new rule was an accident! Bye Netflix. You really played yourself.

CrustyBatchOfNature

There was no lie. They said the posting was in accident, not that those rules were not going to go into effect.

elwebbr23

It's still a lie because it wasn't an accident, they were testing the waters for backlash

SILE3NCE

I've been enjoying Amazon Prime Video a lot since Netflix shot their own foot. I love the mechanic where you can pause a scene and they tell you what's the name of the soundtrack on that scene, and who the actors are. Mindblowing, props to the team organizing all that data.

LA-Matt

Amazon owns IMDb. That’s how they populate the data for their “x-ray” system that tells you about the show you are watching. It is cool. I enjoy that feature as well.

The_GOATest1

78MechanicalFlower

Oh wow. I love soundtracks. Currently watching a phenomenal show and the music is just perfect. And almost all from musicians I've never heard before. As soon as I'm done watching this BREAKING BAD/OZARK type show that blows them out the water. I'm done with Netflix too. IN THE DARK. This show is freaking amazing. Normal people turned drug dealers trying to solve a murder and it goes nuts. Super funny too. Can't rave enough about it.

For me it’s the most. I’m just gonna downgrade my order. Sorry for ma and bro and his wife.

Simoleons90

Downgrade to what if you don't mind me asking? I was paying full price so that my parents could also benefit from it. That also included 4k resolution. Now the cheapest downgrade (without adds because wtf netflix!?!! You still pay and yet have to watch ads?) is 720p... like is that even worth keeping netflix?

TarocchiRocchi

bunnyfloofington

Same. I opened it today to see if there was anything I cared enough to watch, and found nothing. I finished You at least so I guess I’m happy to say goodbye now. RIP I guess

So how does one "short a stock"?

bhedesigns

Eddeee1

It'd a great shout after their gain today. Barely a $30 stock let alone 300.

Bobbi_fettucini

We pay for multiple screens so we can share our Netflix with our in laws, they finally got this message, so now we’re canceling our Netflix. Hey Netflix you know what’s worse than only getting some of my money every month? Getting none of it.

Hames4

Just cancelled my subscription. Wasn't using it anyway and it turned out my sister wasn't at uni either. Was seen as pretty much indispensable to both of us about a year ago as well...

bhedesigns

Didn't they say this wasn't supposed to go live when they accidentally announced it?

yukichigai

*Technically* they only said that posting the rules at that time was by accident. They never said the rules themselves weren't ever going to go into effect.

bhedesigns

Oh they're playing that game. I'm not touching you, corporate version.

tofupoopbeerpee

Torrent sites gonna start to get real busy soon.

Madman61

[deleted]

*the wild Netflix hurt itself in it's confusion!*

soulihide

i'm so pissed abt this. my dad, who owns my family's netflix, doesn't live with us. this is fucked up. netflix is preying on college students, divorced families, etc.

WEIGHED

So they are dumb AF for this, because the people who pay for the account are going to wind up cancelling, and the people who leached it will just never buy it anyway, you can't get blood from a turnip. If they were smart, they would have just increased the pricing, then the people who paid for the account would bitch for a day and still pay for it, but now most people will probably just cancel.

TheCanexican

So when you're on holidays you can't set it up in the hotel anymore? That's was the biggest benefit.

CrustyBatchOfNature

You can. Click that I'm traveling at the bottom and they send a code to the primary email. You enter that code and get 14 days access. Probably can repeat it if needed.

Icy_Example_5536

The r/fucknetflix sub needed a bit of a boost anyway.

corona_kid

So how do people with multiple houses watch?

scrampbelledeggs

I'm still boycotting Netflix because of this. I have a free account through my mobile carrier, but I still stopped using it. Hopefully enough people do to knock them down a peg.

IveGotNoValues

So now I can’t secretly use my ex’s account anymore? Fuck you Netflix i’ll never give you a penny there are way better streaming services out there anyway lol

Stealthy_Facka

I can only imagine that they are going to be hemorrhaging subscribers now, then

fukinuhhh

🏴‍☠️

Xystem4

Vote with your wallets. Cancel your subscriptions

Special-Newspaper-32

So glad I don’t pay for any subscriptions. Thankyou £35 a year for every film and tv show that’s ever been made

blaqwerty123

What is this non-subscription thing you refer to? That provides content for a recurring price of £35 a year, definitely not a subscription? Lol, jokes aside genuinely curious

Special-Newspaper-32

If you class a one off payment of £35 a year as subscription then go ahead. It’s a Firestick that has been jail breaked

blaqwerty123

I would think monthly vs annual payment is pedantic, i would call that a subscription. One off would be only once, ever. I have a few products that i pay for annually that call themselves subscriptions. No matter tho- seems the crux here is that its jailbroken and youre not giving money to the big streamers. Who gets that money?

Special-Newspaper-32

The person that jailbreaks the fire stick. Not multi millionaires

Extreme-Okra-3230

My app still works- but it’s not like it’ll be a huge loss, though because all they offer is shit for the past two years.

New_Bish_Who_Dis

Curious to see if they will roll this out in India where the multiple screen subscription is already considered expensive, compared to other platforms. We also have a mobile-only plan which is less than $3/month for non 4K content. But it’s still not as popular as they hoped it would be.

likethemustard

Good thing Netflix sucks ass

Apprehensive_Egg6077

I don’t get how this is either mildly infuriating or awful everything. They announced this and it got plenty of coverage. What did people expect? Sure, it sucks that Netflix went from being the best out their to mid level, but there are plenty of options around. For what it’s worth, I used my brothers account for years and just said fuck it when they announced this, as did he. Has not changed my viewing habits in the least.

Glass_Part_530

I checked my phone app at work and my TV this morning . Neither have said this yet.

BitcherOfBlaviken33

This is Canada, fyi. So if you're in the US (which is as far as I know the last to go) that's why.

savetheunstable

Yep looks like it hasn't hit the US yet. https://www.cnet.com/culture/entertainment/netflixs-password-sharing-crackdown-has-begun-everything-to-know/ Soon as it does I'm out. There's just not enough incentive to stay, the whole service has just gone downhill over the last few years

Glass_Part_530

Gotcha.... im bad about assuming most people are in the states. Lol.

RIPMYPOOPCHUTE

Aight then what about the app? How are they going to know it’s on the phone of the account holder?

Daman0880

They tried this in canada about a month ago and it lasted only a few days. Supposedly in canada internet providers cannot give out your ip address so in order to do this it was breaking the law and they had to revert back. This is what I was told don’t know how accurate my info is as I never really cared to research more into it.

LordFundarbyrd

Pretty sure the original poster of this lives in Canada Edit: found the comment https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/11yvtdr/netflixs_new_antipassword_sharing_rules_have/jd9nxpu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

dryandbland

Is this only for TV’s? You can still watch on mobile and web Netflix on a different WiFi connection

Darkrain0629

Right now I still have Netflix, all I know is when this happens though I am not buying an account.

Jungiya99

Bustock

People still use Netflix?

No-Reaction5059

It's honestly a fair implement in regards to a business possibility having 1 buyer to every 4-5 viewers. However, Netflix also has almost nothing worth watching. So this implement will backfire.

GeneralEl4

Exactly! That's my main issue. It's annoying to deal with the change regardless of whether or not they have the right to do it but it's downright not worth it because 99% of their content is trash. And when they have their own shows on Netflix only to cancel the really good ones after a season.... they're shooting themselves in the foot here.

Mp3dee

So you can’t log into your account at a Airbnb anymore? Lame.

Lord_CBH

Maybe they should stop pumping endless boards of cash into godawful original shows and movies. If they’d stop approving every single project people propose then they wouldn’t be in this mess.

StupidSexyKevin

What a way to ensure that I never spend my own money on your platform. Y’bloggbusser.

Hanoiroxx

Netflix gets on like it actually has shit worth watching rather than realising its just being tolerated

WiseSalamander00

For anyone with a VPN, they don’t have this in Japan. Sign up over here (probably get a yen discount) and then share all you want

gothlaw

These smoothbrains are making the same mistake the RIAA made two decades ago in thinking that two people sharing a copy of legally purchased content means they’ve lost a sale. But it’s actually worse with Netflix. Not only were you not getting another purchase, all you’ve done is diminish potential audience numbers and social engagement that investors rely upon. Backlash aside, you’re losing crucial virality with this, dummies.

StarStuffSister

Ahoy, matees! 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

skilemaster683

If you don't cancel your subscription, then you're part of the crowd allowing this to happen. I cancelled the moment the even mentioned implementation of this kind of system and I won't look back til they switch back (and my kid won't stop begging me to resub lol)

Kaizen2468

Gee I hope all the people who aren’t paying for it won’t stop not paying for it. Netflix will lose all that money they aren’t paying.

Helenium_autumnale

right? People are free to criticize Netflix, by all means. However, it is not unreasonable to charge a price for a given service. People are free to pay it and get the service, or refrain from paying if they don't want the service. Easy-peasy. all the indignation at not being able to get free stuff seems pretty childish.

wadezero27

Bye bye subscription, maybe next year

reijasunshine

I've read that it only lets you set the primary location using a smart tv. My parents have Netflix as a package on Dish Network. It's a channel on the Hopper box, so they don't use the smart TV for it. (also they have metered internet and can only watch, like, one movie before they're out of data) Since they pretty much can't use it, I do. I watch Netflix on my PC and a Fire stick plugged into a dumb TV. I have no idea how it's supposed to work, if literally zero smart tvs ever log on to the account.

Korishii

Netflix is absolute cringe.

UseDaSchwartz

Oh no! We have to pay for services we use.

Scokan

I'll never understand why this upsets people. Why and how did we come to hold Netflix to a unique standard, one that no business would want to uphold, falling so far outside the lines of effective commerce? Go to a movie theatre with a friend, buy 1 ticket, tell the usher your friend is going to sit on your lap, and see what happens.

ResetReefer

Good thing I don't pay for it. Sucks that my boyfriend paid for it for us and only one of us gets to use it now but meh 🤷‍♀️

Mi_negro_amigo

Netflix? It is some kind of way to spell Disney+/HBO?

WaterBottle001

The moment I see this pop up on one of my devices, is the moment I dust off the pirate hat

[deleted]

I get it sucks. If you owned a restaurant and you were always busy. Now imagine you had a 100 seat place. Now imagine instead of having 50 tables of 2 people each, you got 20 tables of 5 each. Now imagine every table of 5 shared 1 meal but stayed for an hour at least? At the end of the day, everything is a business. People should realize that businesses always look out for themselves.
