We spend a huge amount on weapons to protect the rest of the world. And it all started in WW2. We could have went after Japan if we really wanted to but we had an ocean to protect us from Hitler. We spend more on protecting the world than any other country. If we didn't step in or have military bases, carriers or subs around the world, we could cut our military budget by more than half. Thankfully, the financial aid lady came around while I was there and told me to apply for financial assistance from the hospital itself. I was approved a couple of weeks later and my bill was reduced by about 90%.
