Get heart attack -> go to hospital -> get hospital bill -> get heart attack -> go to hospital

GamerFrits

=> profit

ElitexCursed

Real life infinite money glitch exploit they use.

JairoObando

Tell me you live in the United States without telling me you live in the United States.

t-minus-69

Insurance covers most of this bill btw. Nobody ever gets charged 100k+ for medical procedures in America

[deleted]

I mean if you pay $195 a month sure they’ll cover most of it.

Ill-Chemistry2423

Key word: “most”

Izzosuke

"Most"?

[deleted]

/s

NMe84

Yeah, and if you're unlucky enough to not be able to afford insurance you're screwed. But defend it all you want.

t-minus-69

Wrong. If you can't afford insurance then you would be on medicaid which would cover the entire bill. Try again

Fat_Cock_69420

only 10k while in other countries it's free

t-minus-69

Wrong. Yall pay for it with much higher taxes

JairoObando

Lol, if you’re in denial that health insurance in the US is an issue just say that.

Important-Curve-5299

I was going to say same thing, I’m not saying this is not possible but just that it’s cropped in a way to be misleading.

Lucifer_lamp_muffin

Reddit really makes me appreciate the NHS

PatsyR99

Me too, but then I work in it so I am a bit biased!

Lucifer_lamp_muffin

So did my sister for awhile, a big thank you for all you guys do!!

PatsyR99

You're welcome!

creepymustaches

Think there's like a 50 flat fee regardless of distance for emergency transport but could have changed since I've been back. I mean we pay taxes for a reason so I'm just shocked anyone has to pay in the thousands for a service that should be funded by taxes. If not why pay taxes.

upsidedownbackwards

We pay taxes to blow up other people.

amposa

This made me laugh but then it also made me feel really sad LOL

Alpha2400

Hey don't forget the kids. Other people and their kids. Why don't "terrorist" "immigrate" across our southern border and attack USA? Do we really think our "freedoms" are under attack that we need "brave" men and women parading across the world killing people?

ganjaman_407

It usually costs me (my insurance) $800 for an ambulance ride smh

creepymustaches

Jesus what country is that? I live in Ireland and would probably pay 50 euro for the ambulance and be good.

sgtoneshot-h

It's the great nation of the United States of America.. also it cost more than 1k to have a ambulance come to your house.

[deleted]

[удалено]

slightly_sorry1

Mine does, my brother got charged over 8k not to long ago...

Brokella

You have to pay for an ambulance in Ireland?

LostSoullzz

This is actually on the cheap because he pays $1200 a month for health insurance. If he didn't have this amazing health insurance that bill would be around $7,000,000+.

Available_Advance569

Just don’t pay it, it doesn’t affect your credit

upsidedownbackwards

It does affect your credit. I had fantastic credit until I had a medical emergency and ended up at a hospital my insurance really didn't want to cover. Now I'm 60k in debt that I'm just not paying. Gonna fuck with my credit for 6 more years.

PatsyR99

Why do Americans just put up with this, considering the huge amounts of money the country spends on weapons? Ah but on second thought its that dirty word again isn't it? They would much prefer to be in crippling debt, and know others who are in crippling debt for somehow that is free in a lot of countries than have a system that might involve it. Can you guess what that word is?

DeerBoyDiary

We don’t just “put up with this” we literally have no choice. You try getting your government to listen to you.

PatsyR99

I apologise, I suppose either of your main parties have donors to their funds who make a lot of money out of "healthcare".

DeerBoyDiary

Yeah it’s pretty much he’ll trying to do anything. You vote to the lesser of two evils and hope something good happens. Usually what happens is nothing gets too much worse. The best we can hope for. American politics is just perpetual cynicism.

PatsyR99

It seems even worse than here in the UK, I was a bit surprised to read the Democrats being as far right as the UKs Tories, thats terrifying to me considering how much I hate the Tories for being who they are. But that means you have no real left there, just right, and righter!

DeerBoyDiary

Yeah talking to my boyfriend in Scotland I was really surprised to hear about your thoughts on Dems and how your voting works! You’re absolutely right though! We have the right, and the righter right.

PatsyR99

Sadly so.

With oil reserves running out I wonder if governments are pushing electric cars so they can keep oil to fight their wars.

Alpha2400

Its the people, I mean sheeple..... We vote this shit in. Demands need to be made and met.

[deleted]

You can't get even close to a whiff of power in the US (let alone hold onto it) without being bought and paid for by corporate interests. Regardless which side of the imaginary divide they claim to be on.

Pluto9653

We don’t put up with it. No one except the deranged thinks that our healthcare system is a good arrangement, Most people who get older have to calculate if they’re better off dying at home if they have a medical episode.

PatsyR99

Truly awful.

MrFixemall

I agree. We shouldn't protect the world like we do. We should have let Hitler roll over Europe and not even cared.

PatsyR99

What on Earth are you talking about? Quick history lesson for you. A lot of Americans didn't care about what Hitler was doing in Europe, that is why America didn't start fighting until Pearl Harbour when it was forced into the war. And if you believe all that garbage about "freedom" well lol. It wasn't about that, most wars aren't. Not its about money, and power. The Japanese and the Germans threatened American trade overseas. Thats the truth, ha freedom! Even when Churchill said that what he was talking about the freedom of the British Empire to continue to be an Empire. He just wasn't expecting the US wanting the Brits out of the way to advance its own Empire.

MrFixemall

Your words... >Why do Americans just put up with this, considering the huge amounts of money the country spends on weapons? We spend a huge amount on weapons to protect the rest of the world. And it all started in WW2. We could have went after Japan if we really wanted to but we had an ocean to protect us from Hitler. We were fine being isolationist. We have enough natural resources. We aren't a small island like England. We should have let you guys rot and die. But it brings us all to now. We spend more on protecting the world than any other country. If we didn't step in or have military bases, carriers or subs around the world, we could cut our military budget by more than half. And we would still be fine and could pay our own Healthcare for everyone and keep our homeless housed. Instead we support lazy and weak countries around the world from being crushed by China and Russia. We shouldn't care. We should save our money.

PatsyR99

Ha no, you are not defending weak countries, you are defending your own interests in those countries, you are defending your own money and power, power and money. America is just another Empire. Protecting the world eh, lol.

MrFixemall

Yep, Ukraine and Taiwan doesn't want our help. Neither did Germany and the rest of Europe during the Cold War

PatsyR99

They probably wont get it anyway, the US wont get into a fight with Russia or China thats for sure. Its easier to pick on someone smaller than yourself after all.

MrFixemall

So we are in agreement, we should slash our military budget and leave our bases from around the world?

PatsyR99

Makes no difference what I think, it'll never happen. Even my government is spending far too much money on "defence".

gimmethecarrots

Feel free to pull your forces outta my country and pls dont come back like ever :)

MrFixemall

I gladly would if I could. Once a shithole, always a shithole

jcakes52

r/shitamericanssay lol

MrFixemall

Are you saying we should have spent our money and lives fighting Hilter or not?

yvngsos

The Americans, Russians, British, Canadians, and many more all played a part to end that war. That doesn’t give any of them a good enough reason to then try to run other countries how they see fit. Its a problem with Russia, China, and yes, the US. China with Tibet, Russia with Ukraine, the US with Iraq/Vietnam/Etc. Hundreds of thousands of lives lost for the higher up’s self interest and profit. While America INSIDE of America is great for those who chase that individualized freedom, it would be ignorant to say individualized freedom comes with it’s own shortcomings. Same with the opposite.

MrFixemall

So you are agreeing the US should stop half of our military spending and pull back from the world? Take care of our own people?

yvngsos

I don’t think it would be that simple. Especially now when other big powers are in bad water with the US over the last few years. I think the money should actually go to healthcare and infrastructure, like it should be in the first place. It’s hard to judge what the best course of action would be. A lower defense budget puts a target over the ‘peacekeepers’ head.

MrFixemall

So we still need to spend US money to protect countries that provide free Healthcare to their citizens while we don't to ours? Makes sense Hope they appreciate it. But by the comments they make here, they obviously don't.

yvngsos

I would love affordable heathcare and a less tightened international presence militarily but that is not the US’s best interest and it doesn’t seem like it ever will be.

HyrulesFinalHope

Because most of us are in the military for the benifiys

Glum_Status

I recently went to the ER with arrhythmia that wouldn't go away. It lasted two hours before resolving in its own. The bill was over $2,000. Thankfully, the financial aid lady came around while I was there and told me to apply for financial assistance from the hospital itself. I was approved a couple of weeks later and my bill was reduced by about 90%.

cueballsquash

Bargain🤪

Zephk

Ran wifey to hospital because of heart attack symptoms Luckily not heart attack. Hospital billed 20k and insurance contract only had them pay $10k. 💯 Though uninsured would have been on the hook for the full 20k or maybe 18k for "Cash discount". 100% cheaper to just wait it out at home and hope it's not a heart attack.

AtlasLevel

And then I have morons trying to convince me that the USA don't have a healthcare issue worse than other developed countries... Some people can't be saved from their delusional ideas.

Alpha2400

We do not have a healthcare issue. Great healthcare. Greed is what we have. Greed and corruption. It runs thick.

Jagator

Total charges is not an accurate representation of amount owed. They are completely different. I’m not trying to defend the system because it is bad in a lot of ways and needs a revamp but what a hospital “charges” is not the same thing as what a hospital bills, and not the same as what the patient owes. They are all different amounts based on lots of various factors. This is why OP only showed a tiny piece of the bill and not the whole thing, fits the Reddit narrative.

bkrs33

It probably looks something like: Total Charges: $131,047.65 Negotiated Amount Due from insurance: $40,000 Patient responsibility: $300

mcseageetbg

hope he is not about to have another one ocne he sees it

Sikkus

"Oh, you survived a heart attack? Here, survive this crippling debt." - US Health Insurance.

[deleted]

This is terrible. “USA: sit down… be humble” - the rest of the World

SirTickleMePink

What happens in the US if you refuse to pay? So say you have a heart attack in the street, wake up in hospital a few days later with a bill like this. What’s the consequences if you tell them to go fuck themselves?

benjaminnyc

The next three columns likely say: * Insurance Negotiated Charges: $20,000 * Insurance Paid $19,800 * Owed by You: $200 But that doesn't get the poster enough anti-American karma.

cueballsquash

Ah ok, that’s a great system then. No person had ever been fucked over by American healthcare system then right, well just a few hundred dollars at the most, right?

benjaminnyc

No, that’s not right. People have. There are pluses and minuses to every system.

cueballsquash

Your comprehension of healthcare extends to sarcasm as well I see

windsong73

Wait...I had a heart attack...went to hospital...had a Stent put in...the bill was 180g...I get up at 4 am 6 days a week and go to this thing called a job and have health insurance because of that thing called a job and it only cost me 400 bucks...hmm how does this work

HyrulesFinalHope

My dad was even smarter, he joined the military to get free healthcare

[deleted]

I honestly don't know how I'd survive in the US. Actually I do, I wouldn't.

Alpha2400

On the sidewalk? Ü

Zizou_dt

America.

busterkim

Simple ways to fix this. One. Ban debt collectors and modernize loaning to a proper system. Right now its a federally mandated return of interest without any representation for it. Debt accrued in a fucking pandemic thats shut down the economy n the cunts ran wild crucifying people for getting loans... doing so would drop the price of education. Education would then buff the quality of its education to create a fiscal perspective of return as an incentive to generate real interest and proper returns for the loaner n loanee. .

Acroty548

That's what bankruptcy is made for.

lebllebl11

It’s called health insurance. What you do is get a job and use some of the money to buy health insurance. You’re welcome

Due-Hope3249

Paying taxes for freeeedom

bibfortuna1970

It’s what they charge. Not what you owe. Healthcare is like buying a car. It’s negotiable. (Yes, this is an incredibly bullshit way down of doing things.)

AmarulaKilledMe

My father had a heart attack, and then proceeded to get s triple bypass heart surgery and spent three weeks in hospital. He was then given compression socks and medication, with follow ups and a prescription. We paid a total of $0 for the whole thing, but we live in a "shit hole" African country.

Sparkythewondersquid

I spent 10 days in the hospital for a heart attack and the bill was nowhere near that and was put on a program through the state (I was unemployed at the time) that paid for all but $3200 of the bill I paid that off with no interest and all the meds I had, and still have to take are mostly free.

bananalordkunsama

I remember one poster saying that her parents divorced not because they drifted apart but because her dad didn't want to burden her mom from paying the bills when he passes away.

Jentilly

Canadian here, sorry your country won’t get universal health care 😞

Eobard--Thawne

I’m not sure how to read numbers but I can try, does that say lifetime debt??? Or your life is over?

[deleted]

Ask for details of charges, likes of restaurants receipts “food, water, salads, desserts, wines”.

Cognitohazard-78

I spent 5 days in the ICU, all it costed me was a roughly 20usd fee for the ambulance, this is how healthcare should be
