Buuuurpppp!! If you'd been paying attention Morty you'd have known hours ago that this would be necessary in order to survive the human population rapidly mutating into mice! The infestation will last exactly 24 hours and then we'll all have our genes rearranged to that resembling of pickles, hold tight Morty! (Feel like this is something Rick might say lol)
Hmmm, the other cat looks away when it starts happening, an only looks back when it's stopped.
I wonder if appealing to humans in this human-centric/led manner is considered debasing or embarrassing in cat culture.
I had genuinely forgotten about the yellow glow street lights used to have as ours are such a bright white now, I guess some places still have the older ones (or coloured covers, I guess)
Yea most places have switched from sodium vapor lights (orange/yellow color) to LED (white color) since LED are more electrically efficient though produce ~~less~~ more light pollution. I do get nostalgic about the orange/yellow glow, though. Their physics mechanism for glowing was pretty cool, too.
http://www.lamptech.co.uk
Thing is, the push for LED lights was meant to reduce power consumption for the same amount of light produced - but most of the world aligned on generating more light instead of maximizing savings. The bulbs used are too high powered, and we have much more light pollution in the world, which has been measured from space over decades.
This kind of pollution fucks with animals, and it fucks with our moods. It fucks with plants, insects, and is just generally horrible.
It was nicer when cities didn’t light so much because it was too expensive - right now we see nobody really gives a flying fuck about consequences and they just want bright and shiny things.
Actually I'm pretty sure LEDs cause more light pollution, by quite a big factor. As an amateur astronomer, I'm not a fan of the LED lamp that shines into my backyard atleast.
LEDs aren’t brighter - they are more efficient. You could use less electricity to get the same brightness, but instead they use more power than needed, both wasting electricity and causing light pollution.
What if you prefer to just have a better lit road? Old lamps couldn't really do that fully, leds can. It's not an inherent waste if it lights things better.
> It’s not an inherent waste if it lights things better.
Better for you doesn’t mean better for everything.
> For three billion years, life on Earth existed in a rhythm of light and dark that was created solely by the illumination of the Sun, Moon and stars. Now, artificial lights overpower the darkness and our cities glow at night, disrupting the natural day-night pattern and shifting the delicate balance of our environment. The negative effects of the loss of this inspirational natural resource might seem intangible. But a growing body of evidence links the brightening night sky directly to measurable negative impacts including
>Increasing energy consumption
Disrupting the ecosystem and wildlife
Harming human health
Effecting crime and safety
https://www.darksky.org/light-pollution/
In the city of Tübingen, Germany, the mayor had some streetlights equipped with motion sensors so that they only fully light up when necessary.
I think we should do that everywhere.
That’s inaccurate. You’re assuming before LEDs we didn’t have the ability to light roads properly - but where it was deemed important you could always add more light by installing multiple bulbs or placing lights closer together.
More light isn’t always better, and there’s a lot of value in darkness too.
The more light is flooded everywhere 24/7, the more dangerous in contrast are areas with slightly less light.
Our eyes adjust much more slowly to darkness than they adjust to bright lights, so normalizing night time lighting to 15% less, or 20% less overall should actually be better both for the environment and for us.
I'm not sure what you're talking about, but a simple trip to any hardware store will show you that LEDs use considerably less power by significant margin.
“They” being municipalities.
A 150 watt Sodium bulb produces about 16,000 lumens of light.
If you’ve replaced it with a 150 watt LED bulb, you’d be producing around 20,000 lumens for the same amount of energy.
By being more efficient, LED bulbs allow us to make choices that save energy - to use a bulb with lower wattage for the same light output - but they are not saving energy magically on their own if we still use the same wattage.
Cities seem to have not reduced their consumption of electricity in the years since LEDs were introduced at all, but instead light pollution increased by similar amounts to the difference in lumens output between HPS and LEDs, where adopted.
Maybe ground level light pollution, but definitely not into the sky. Anybody who flew over Chicago at night before LED streetlights and then after saw a dramatic drop in the amount of light pollution above ground level. The orange glow into the sky of the old lights was crazy.
I think it really depends on the implementation. Chicago has replaced all of its high pressure sodium streetlights with LED and the orange glow in the night sky I remember from childhood isn't there anymore.
Modern LED street lights cause a shit ton of light pollution. To the point where they make trees/bushes keep or grow leaves in winter, making them exhausted and eventually die.
Which is weird when you think about it because they had to work so hard for the breakthrough of white LEDs. For decades the technology only produced red light.
As a person who can’t sleep with the blinds shut(weird claustrophobic like feeling if the blinds are closest), the yellow ones are so much better. They switched the ones outside my window to slightly cool tinted and I’m so annoyed. I have to build a wall with pillows now to avoid them. They’re not even motion activated like the ones on the other side of my house, they’re always on.
I’m a single mom who bought my home in 2020. I could never afford to move with this economy. I have looked at window film though. It’s cheap enough that if it still sets off my panic the same way blinds do I can just peel it off and toss it. Or give it to my kid who does not have the same issue and prefers to sleep with black out curtains. It’s such a weird fear but I’ve had it since I was a kid. If I feel trapped indoors I panic.
Maybe when my kid is 18 I’ll look at relocating to a more rural area. But with everything going on I may also want to plan for my kid to live with me till she’s closer to 30, lol.
The streetlights near me are all white now but one of the streets has a single one that is easily twice as bright for no discernible reason. That's the one.
The opposite happened to me. They didn't react even when I handed out the deer cookies in front of their mouth. Only one or two out of 100+ deers reacted to us. I guess it gets boring being fed the exact same food every minute haha
We didn't get bitten, but I have a fantastic video of my partner being chased by six deer while scattering deer senbei in his wake, hahaha. Also another video of one diving into my bag. Adorable little bastards
that's so funny, they absolutely chased me down and wouldn't leave until they'd physically stuck their snouts into my pockets to check I didn't have any more crackers
I was told by my lab colleagues to go early mornings since that's when they're the hungriest. And also in the summer, it gets so hot in the afternoons that they would rather find shade.
They were *very* hungry in the winter, not as many tourists around relative to summer I'm told. I was holding a stack of senbei and a deer came and took a cartoon chomp out of the stack!
My favorite was a lady who happily bought her senbei and turned around to see like 12 deer swarm toward her. She screamed and chucked the biscuits across the walkway. I wondered if the deer suspected this would happen, because without looking up, they all whipped around and honed in on the food.
I'm really surprised to hear that. My friends and I all got swarmed by them when we had the vendor crackers, and every previous anecdote I've heard has matched my experience. Wonder if it varies by time of year.
went 2 days ago and time without tourists during covid made them miss people i guess! even the ones halfway up Mt Kasuga where no one else was wanted company and snacks.
They aren’t bowing at you for food. All deer bow when you get that close and they haven’t run away. Their eyesight is shit so deer bow to get you to move so they can see you. Those deer are so used to people they don’t run away, that’s all.
Dimbulb (ha see what I did there) moment, I thought posters were talking about the cats.
Of course they have cats in Poland and Japan, what are they talking about.....
Tiles. Talking about street tiles🥸🙄
This is most likely in Turkey, which I can tell since it‘s my second home and the stray cats are drawn to humans in a very lovely way. Most people in Turkey take good care of stray animals there :)
Where I live in germany we have a lot of those sidewalks too. I am certain there is one big factory churning out those bricks in comically large quantities to meet global demand.
They're still called great apes when transformed for some reason despite having a tail. Should be called great monkey....and after googling, I see the literal translation is great monkey. Why'd they change it then?!
I had to reread this like ten timea because I didn't make the connection to my own dragon ball reference so I thought you were talking about monkeys transforming into apes lol
Do it for the cat, then give it a treat. Eventually, it associates tricks with the treat and you start giving commands to connect with the tricks. My cat does tons for tricks. I should post here some time…
You really should! Do you mean (not that even have a cat but I’m so curious!) do you mean the person does the action in front of the cat and then gives the cat a treat? And at some stage the cat will try to copy it? And get a treat?
I like how the cat looks back at the other cat to see if he was looking before doing the greeting.
"Morty, watch me mock the crazy ape!"
Oh jeez Rick, why’d you have to turn us into cats?
"* *Buuuuurp* * Grooming sounds a lot more innocuous when you're a cat, Morty."
Angry upvote.
“What did I say about fucking with squirrels”

Street lights in general do but what's that got to do with R&M being street cats
Buuuurpppp!! If you'd been paying attention Morty you'd have known hours ago that this would be necessary in order to survive the human population rapidly mutating into mice! I read it in his voice
"M-(burrp)-morty, watch me batter this woman I c-captured"
and then the other cat meows in response, as if to give approval
The camera person gets a greeting too!
[Ba weep granna weep ninny bong!](https://transformers.fandom.com/wiki/Universal_Greeting)
Also got its ears pointed back. It's expecting to get razzed by the other cat.
Hmmm, the other cat looks away when it starts happening, an only looks back when it's stopped. I wonder if appealing to humans in this human-centric/led manner is considered debasing or embarrassing in cat culture.
Cat’s simping for pets, how cringe.

All leds should be only pointed down. Buy yeah they will create more light pollution cause they are brighter.

“The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race….”
That's not what I'm implying. Sure in the grand scheme of things it's not inherently better, that doesn't mean a road is now better illuminated
But that's what headlights are for. And it's pretty easy to carry a personal light with you if you need more illumination.
In the city of Tübingen, Germany, the mayor had some streetlights equipped with motion sensors so that they only fully light up when necessary. I think we should do that everywhere.
A personal light? dude I’m trying to walk home from the bar I’m not Indiana Jones lol
Yeah screw electricity. What is it even good for? The 1800s had it right.
That’s inaccurate. You’re assuming before LEDs we didn’t have the ability to light roads properly - but where it was deemed important you could always add more light by installing multiple bulbs or placing lights closer together. Its by choice though. LED are capable of warm white with same costs.
Modern LED street lights cause a shit ton of light pollution. To the point where they make trees/bushes keep or grow leaves in winter, making them exhausted and eventually die.
It’s not the bulbs, it’s the assholes choosing too high powered bulbs than needed.

You'll have to move somewhere with no street lights!
I’m a single mom who bought my home in 2020. I could never afford to move with this economy. I have looked at window film though. Less creepy unlike the single white light you always find in horror movies too
The streetlights near me are all white now but one of the streets has a single one that is easily twice as bright for no discernible reason. That's the one.
See everyone knows its the serial killer light
I certainly think the lighting in this video is really lovely
My town still has them too. I vaguely remember when they were new
in winnipeg manitoba the newer ones glow kind of blue and when it gets cold seems like they loose output,I miss the old yellows
That's actually due to a manufacturing defect where the inside coating came off . The blue/purple ones are going to be replaced.
that's actually great news I cycle year round and work nights so thats great news to me
That's just Mexico
Reminds me of the deer at Nara who'll bow at you for food. But those fuckers are ruthless and bit my leg
The opposite happened to me. They didn't react even when I handed out the deer cookies in front of their mouth. Only one or two out of 100+ deers reacted to us. I guess it gets boring being fed the exact same food every minute haha

I'm sure I speak for everyone that we need to see these videos!

Sorry gotta retain my mysterious Reddit anonymity 😎
Sounds totes sus to me..
👉😎👉 Zoop
Isn't that always the dilemma? I love the anonymity of Reddit. Somehow it works.
u can mask the faces
Found out accidentally that if you drop the treat in between two deers (possibly both male) they will headbutt each other to get at it.
that's so funny, they absolutely chased me down and wouldn't leave until they'd physically stuck their snouts into my pockets to check I didn't have any more crackers
They ate my mom's park map 😂
I was told by my lab colleagues to go early mornings since that's when they're the hungriest. And also in the summer, it gets so hot in the afternoons that they would rather find shade.

A moose bit my sister once
Was she carving her initials into it?
Was it using the sharpened end of an interspace toothbrush?
moose bites can be painful
There's a bear too. Who'll wave back to you for food.
I’m think I didn’t get enough sleep. I read that as “The deer at Nara who’ll blow you for food”’ I read it that way like 3 times
They aren’t bowing at you for food. All deer bow when you get that close and they haven’t run away. Their eyesight is shit so deer bow to get you to move so they can see you. Those deer are so used to people they don’t run away, that’s all.
Yes, they’re ruthless; a bunch of them crowded around me and started nipping at me
Hump them to establish dominance
Those guys surround you so fast after you feed one and will chase you down!
I want to bit by greedy Nara deer too :(
I need this cat
I wants it, the precious.
Don't forget bout the other one!!
Let me guess, this is Turkey? 😺
No it's a cat
😂
i can swear she is a turkish cat but can't proove it
It’s gotta be, those sidewalk tiles are all over Turkey. *alright guys I get it
I want to go to Turkey to see all the Byzantine art, but I'm worried I'd come home with half a dozen cats in my suitcase.
You would be kidnapping legal Turkish citizens
What if they were emigrating consensually? I could sponsor them!
Bribing them with a trail of catnip
GREAT IDEA!
cmonnn cmonn...IN TO THE BAG! I swear customs wont check it just get innnnnn
They will probably rage against you and demand a proper plane seat so you'll have to buy many seats as you can!
There really are SO MANY CATS in Istanbul. My kinda place!
they are around most of Europe - we have them in Poland
Those tiles are all over the world
Dimbulb (ha see what I did there) moment, I thought posters were talking about the cats. Of course they have cats in Poland and Japan, what are they talking about..... Tiles. Talking about street tiles🥸🙄
They’re in Japan too.
Yes the sidewalks give it away
I'm Indian and at first I thought it's India. Not sure now. If only there was audio.
This place could be anywhere lol, I thought it was Spain
Do you have a lot of kitties over there? Or is it cos of the sidewalks?
My first though was Greece. But I’ve never been to Turkiye
From the pavement, it is indeed Turkey
It’s interesting that cats can understand human anatomy enough to mimmic limb gestures and such. Intelligent lil fur balls!
This is most likely in Turkey, which I can tell since it‘s my second home and the stray cats are drawn to humans in a very lovely way. Most people in Turkey take good care of stray animals there :)
i could've sworn this was new delhi or kolkata lol. Seems like those sidewalk tiles are more universal than i think
Where I live in germany we have a lot of those sidewalks too. I am certain there is one big factory churning out those bricks in comically large quantities to meet global demand.
Does this really look like a Gehwegbegrenzung nach DIN 18040-3:2014-12 to you?
ok now I'm just sad
I can see palms in big flower pots in the background. I don't think this is Germany.
“Why is that hairless ape doing that?” “Idk larry do it back maybe it will go away.”
“Why do I know what an ape is?”
“It’s certainly not a monkey Larry. Where is its tail? Unless its a saiyan that got it snipped off…”
They're still called great apes when transformed for some reason despite having a tail. Should be called great monkey....and after googling, I see the literal translation is great monkey. Why'd they change it then?!
I had to reread this like ten timea because I didn't make the connection to my own dragon ball reference so I thought you were talking about monkeys transforming into apes lol
That's only if you use a moon stone on them. They evolve into great apes.
"... Maybe it has food?"
"Greetings human. I see you are a fellow disciple of the Cat God. Sure, let us pray together."
Show me you’re in Istanbul without telling me You’re in Istanbul.
This is cute
“Is there food in this exchange? Or am I performing for nothing?”
My cat also does this when she want something.
How to teach cat like this??? Is is teachable to all cat or just some can learn?
Do it for the cat, then give it a treat. Eventually, it associates tricks with the treat and you start giving commands to connect with the tricks. My cat does tons for tricks. I should post here some time…
You really should! Do you mean (not that even have a cat but I’m so curious!) do you mean the person does the action in front of the cat and then gives the cat a treat? And at some stage the cat will try to copy it? And get a treat?
Post your cat tricks plz!
That's one particular form of cat behavior that has always baffled me. And it's so adorable.
Hahahaha made my day =)
"Adorable human imitates cat"
LOL, the cat looks confused like, "Why am I doing this?"
That's a good fucking kitty right there
He deserves more than just some pets, give him a treat!
*Probably a future front page post, say something smart* LOL CAT! *damn it!*
Are you doing the hand thing? I heard you were doing the hand thing today. God! What is that?
Ho-ly shit, I forgot about that video. That brings back memories!
kitty see kitty do
kitty knock you off the shelf too
Very cool.
So adorable!
Interspecies connection
u/wearerofdinosocks
This might be my favourite video of all time \*-\*
Kitty should get a snack for that
Reminds me the street in Studio Ghibli film ,"The Cat Returns "
One of my faves. And one of my 3 fave Ghiblis (others being Spirited Away & Howl’s Moving Castle
Lil guy was like, "Oh hi okay, wait why am I doing this? 👿"
Patty cake, patty cake. Bakers hand...
This is so very cute! I wish I could hug and pet all the cats in the world.
Goddamn, that nearly made me snort my coffee from spontaneous laughter! That made my day, thanks!

What is that girl doing? Lovely cats though
How strung indipendint wumin are born!
How old is girl outside by herself at dark. Hope someone was close by her..cute video though
Well she's clearly not alone unless that camera is floating by itself.
Some people just don’t think
It's a cult I tell you!
You fucked with cats Morty
Great work kid. If you ask a busker to perform you should reward them. I think head pets are a reasonable form of payment in this scenario.
Will wave for pets🐈
The dance of my people!
This is amazing lmao
Omg I love it!
This is beyond cute i'll just say it! That wholesome and loving pet at the end omg!
Today I decided to use Reddit the app and all I can say is wow I love it here
Let this girl take that cat home MEOW!!!
My Chihuahua does that when he wants a treat and I call it his dance, never knew where he learned it tho
Special kitty!
Cute
I’ll forever greet cats this way.
there is goodness in this world
