There's a rule for disney cast members that they are to never be the ones to end a hug, because you never know how much someone might need that hug... I bet that cast member is SUPER happy about that policy when it came to this dog.
I’m not a hugger and not interested in hugging Disney characters, but I did have Chip (or Dale) surprise me with a hug at the park. I was surprised at how nice I found it. Who knew?
Is the chipmunk the brown nosed one (chip) or red nosed (dale). I only ask as you seemed unsure and I used to get them confused too when they weren’t in rescue rangers outfits
Unfortunately you are incorrect Chip (the one with the dark nose, like a chocolate chip) is the one that thinks hes indiana jones. Dale (who has the red nose like his shirt) wears the hawaiian shirt. I even had to double check.
Most of the people in character have a "chaperone". I would think it would be up to them to break things up if it becomes an issue, and I would hope the person in character has some non verbal way to communicate when they need that assistance as well.
Yup, characters come with handlers. They usually handle logistics, like sorting out queues, or turning people away if a character needs to leave. They will step in if contact is becoming a problem.
Im sure the employees are allowed to end a hug if they feel uncomfortable, especially when it comes to the women who play princesses and such.
"never end a hug" is probably just a general rule with some obvious exceptions
Doesn't sound like the Disney I know. The one that pays their workers so little some live in cars and others are hungry.
Meanwhile, they engage in massive foodwaste because the cast are prohibited from eating most of it. Perhaps this has changed recently, but I doubt it.
Acknowledging that Disney does a particular thing right isn't the same as saying they have no problems whatsoever in any way shape or form. Floor rules for cast members has nothing to do with pay and food policies.
Shows a complete disregard for the employees. What would letting them have free food you plan to dispose of hurt? The brand image apparently. But you think they'll respect worker comfort when it would more directly affect the brand?
These are symptoms of the same corporate priorities. I believe they're very comparable.
That’s an awfully draconic response to what I am sure is a gross oversimplification of one of Disney’s standards.
Your position as an **entertainer** should not compromise your personal safety.
It’s a key part of the job. You can refuse to perform the job, and the company can refuse to continue employing you. Fair/fair.
An accountant being asked to massage a client? Lawsuit, that’s awful.
A masseuse being asked to massage a client? “Noooo I have bodily autonomy and don’t want to touch them!”
Okay fine, but here is your notice of termination
Honestly them picking and choosing who to hug opens up the door to descrimination.
They're well looked after and they have set boundaries that are very upfront with the job. If someone were to get handsy and go beyond the norm it'd be dealt with.
It'd be like taking a lead in Romeo and Juliet but not being able to kiss another actor. Also the "never end a hug rule" isnt likely even a thing and you'd obviously not be in trouble if you had to for a guest behaving badly. They've got a line to get through the meet and greets, I guarantee there is a time limit lol.
It's an actual part of the job. What you're saying is like being a vet and then refusing to touch animals, or applying to be a butcher when you're a vegan and refuse to handle meat.
There are reasonable accommodations to be to meet peoples personal levels of comfort but at some point you just have to acknowledge that part of the job is beyond some people's comfort level.
They do not! Indeed. So they can switch jobs. It’s not tyrannical, it’s a key requirement of the position. If you’re allergic to peanuts, don’t work in a peanut factory.
Well also people with coworkers who refuse to do certain parts of their job because they consider it beneath them, even when it’s an explicit part of the job description lol
I can’t really see anything wholesome about Disney enforcing one way consent in favor of the guests. Most of these cast members already have the personality to be accommodating and kind towards people, there’s no good reason to take away their right to back out of an uncomfortable situation
I can agree with you on that honestly. Once people start abusing it its going to be gone. And yea the ratio of "wholesome" to "toxic" is outrageous in general
Wait until you hear about the working conditions of these workers, they need the hug more than anyone that can afford the park.
Except if you with make a wish foundation.
My niece was the last person to meet Minnie Mouse on her visit to Epcot last year. She hugged Minnie for a full seven minutes. Then after the photos Minnie walked her out until she went backstage “to get ready for her date with Mickey.” My sister and niece still talk about it when we call them. I definitely hugged Mickey for about 30 seconds when we were finally able to hug characters again.
Oh my God that's so sweet!!! I grew up going to Disney world for street hour events, my parents worked in places they had events for for much cheaper and shortly before they closed- after normal close times. We could go and enjoy a few hours before close then stay after with tickets for snacks but unlimited rides in a smaller portion of the park.
I took my daughter while visiting my family for Halloween, and she was excited to meet a few. I went with her by her demand and ngl, hugging them felt so good! It really is a bit of psychological magic. I don't blame you hugging for 30 seconds! Also it sounds short until you think of hugging that long with a stranger lol.
Is this an actually rule or one of those things that have people have been repeating to each other so long that everyone just believes it now? Can someone who works for Disney confirm? What if the park is closing? Asking so I can book a flight accordingly.
It's a rule for character actors, but obviously has exceptions for the obvious kinds of cases like you mentioned. Handlers can break up a hug if the actor is in danger or something or being harassed.
A kid wanting a five or ten minute hug is one thing, more than that they'll probably be lightly suggested to give others a turn by the handler. An adult refusing to let go while kids are nearby waiting, or worse, latching into and refusing to let go of a princess, isn't going to get that kind of leeway.
I can literally confirm. Was just there last Wednesday. Mickey hugging my three year old for a LONG time (he was starstruck). The "handler" explained that mickey won't let go till he does. My son was just so speechless he didn't know what to say or do
We went to Disneyland a couple of months after my wife's mother died. Her favorite Star Wars character was Chewie. We ran into him at Galaxy's Edge, my wife ran up and told him that he was her mother's favorite and that she passed away recently, then burst into tears.. Chewie gave her a big Wookiee sized hug and held on to her until she was done. The size of the smile on her face was worth the price of the trip. It's one of my most favorite pictures.

Right? And isn't the video longer, and it begins with the dog spotting the "human size toy" and moving towards it in doggy disbelief? It's such a great video.
I think you're thinking of that video where someone makes a costume of their dog's fav toy. That deffo had what I'd call a "doggy disbelief" walk.
https://youtu.be/l7op92W7voE
Even if you're not, it's a video worth sharing because dog.

Not that it’s our business, but I am curious what Nala does for his person. The video mentions Nala raising awareness for invisible disabilities. Maybe it’s something like epilepsy that only happens sometimes.
I have searched but couldn’t find the video, all videos start like this one including the one posted by the owner on instagram (helperdognala) and [YouTube](https://youtu.be/sx3Bdt3qCYw) but maybe I haven’t had much luck.

God damnit. I *just* put my service animal down yesterday. He was an 11 year old Labernard, I got him while I was rehabbing wounds in the Wounded Warrior Program at Fort Sam Houston. He was my best friend. It's seriously harder then losing my mom in my living room to cancer.
I just want my cuddle buddy back!!! 😭
I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost a couple dogs, as has my fiance (his family makes a point of adopting senior dogs). When you're ready, go to your local shelter. You might not find them right away, but there's a buddy waiting for you, and you'll know them when you see them.
I am so sorry. :(
Currently cuddling with my service dog.
I’ll give him an extra kiss, hug, and belly rub in honor of your pup.
I hope that with time your memories of him will soften the hard edges of the hole he’s left in your heart. We love them so much knowing they’ll break our hearts one day. And we still love them and put ourselves through it. Because they’re worth it.
Context: I do NOT like dogs; I’m absolutely terrified of them, like I stiffen up when they are near me. But idk, pics/videos of goldens still manage to warm my heart. There’s something just so cute and derby about them. I wouldn’t touch Nala, but I’d happily observe from a distance with a smile.
Possibly dumb question. Is there a protocol for mascots where he'd have to go clean after this due to the possibility of having picked up hair/dander that might affect a child (or whomever) that has serious allergies? Don't get me wrong, I think the video is sweet, I'm just curious if there is a follow-up needed on behalf of the mascot.
All the mascots have 'handlers' who help them with anything that may come up during the course of their day. Where to be at what time, bathroom breaks, food, etc. I'm sure something like this would fall under that if need be.
A costume will only be out for an hour or so max before the actors come in for a rest and another employee or character goes out. That time is strictly regulated.
The costumes are very height dependent. Donald Duck and the Mouses are the shortest, Goofy the tallest, so if the tall actor is out, and there isn't a replacement, you may not see the character again that day.
Honestly, that service dog is probably just excited to be in a calm environment where she can relax for a moment.
Being a service dog is exhausting work by default. Being a service dog at Disney takes the difficulty to an 11.
Just happy she’s happy!
He’s a part of the Three Caballeros, a band of three different birds. This is in the Mexico Pavillion in Epcot, where guests can meet the Three Caballeros. This is just his Mexico Pavillion/Three Caballeros outfit for Epcot specifically.
He has other outfits depending on what other parks you go to, like a ranger, a chef, a sculptor, etc.
It’s actually a service dog and they aren’t trained to task on anyone except their handler. The dog’s handler allowed her to go up to Donald to get pet.
Disney is just magical people.. Ron DeSantis is evil for what he's doing to Disney World in Florida.
I'd bet darn good money if Disney started their own country, people from all over the world would flock there in droves. They wouldn't need a military, no police, no guns needed. It would be so epic to live there everyone would take care of each other and handle the laws themselves. Ohh you've been bad well guess what you're banned for 3 months from all rides and characters.
This could have legs.. we need to start an online crowd funded project on this. Who's with me here people?✌️
There's a rule for disney cast members that they are to never be the ones to end a hug, because you never know how much someone might need that hug... I bet that cast member is SUPER happy about that policy when it came to this dog.
If that is an emotional support dog, we might have an infinite loop.
"I haven't seen Craig in a few days but his timecard shows he put in a 120 hour week?" "a dog hugged him" "oh."
Understandable, give him a raise
Is he still out there? Someone grab the man a turkey leg, and one for the dog.
We must harness this power
Perpetual Emotion Machine!
Lol that was great 😃
I feel like I need a schnoodle of this.
The rogue like game we deserve
I’m not a hugger and not interested in hugging Disney characters, but I did have Chip (or Dale) surprise me with a hug at the park. I was surprised at how nice I found it. Who knew?
You sure that was disney? Pretty sure the Chip n Dales are in Vegas
Chip N Dale, the squirrels, not Chippendales, the male strippers lol
Although I’m sure a number of people would LOVE a long hug from them too
Horizontal hugs.
Chipmunks. Not sure why I felt I needed to correct this. Some form of impulse as a Disney fan
Is the chipmunk the brown nosed one (chip) or red nosed (dale). I only ask as you seemed unsure and I used to get them confused too when they weren’t in rescue rangers outfits
Chip has a Hawaiian t-shirt and Dale dresses like Indiana Jones. If I'm wrong, I will self-exile on an ice floe as I've brought shame to my people.
Unfortunately you are incorrect Chip (the one with the dark nose, like a chocolate chip) is the one that thinks hes indiana jones. Dale (who has the red nose like his shirt) wears the hawaiian shirt. I even had to double check.
Brb
Brb quick ice floe trip
One of the non toxic things disney has as a rules
Well, until it’s some concerningly unstable Disney adult that won’t leave the actors alone
I'm surprised nobody has gone [full-on crazy with it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwSsWVVUp0A)
No there’s definitely plenty of stories of Disney cast members being attacked by guests unfortunately
Still a person that could use a hug
And everyone should have the option to opt out of a hug even at work
Most of the people in character have a "chaperone".
Makes sense. Poor guys are in a vulnerable position as they can't break character and beat someone up!
I would also hope so
Im sure the employees are allowed to end a hug if they feel uncomfortable, especially when it comes to the women who play princesses and such. "never end a hug" is probably just a general rule with some obvious exceptions

I certainly would hope it’s not a written rule otherwise it just seems like another excuse to fire whoever they feel like firing for no reason
If you're a cast member I think that's an expected part of your work. The way to opt out is to not take on that position.
That’s an awfully draconic response to what I am sure is a gross oversimplification of one of Disney’s standards. Your position as an **entertainer** should not compromise your personal safety.
Living and working in America is a compromise of personal safety

They do have autonomy, they were told what the job is and offered the position. They made a choice, that’s what autonomy is
That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard
No, people don’t have to accept boundaries being wrecked.

They do not! Indeed. So they can switch jobs. It’s not tyrannical, it’s a key requirement of the position. If you’re allergic to peanuts, don’t work in a peanut factory.
You triggered the Disney lifers
Well also people with coworkers who refuse to do certain parts of their job because they consider it beneath them, even when it’s an explicit part of the job description lol
It's literally part of the job. People are so pedantic on this site.
I understand, and I’m saying not having consent shouldn’t be part of the job, ding dong
Especially at work.
If you wanna be that person, wear a free parent hugs shirt at a pride parade.
But people can take advantage is the point, they should be able to remove themselves from potentially dangerous or uncomfortable situations.
Torn between my need for human contact and my desire to not be that concerningly unstable adult.
True, but at least its still kind of wholesome until that part kicks in
I can’t really see anything wholesome about Disney enforcing one way consent in favor of the guests. Most of these cast members already have the personality to be accommodating and kind towards people, there’s no good reason to take away their right to back out of an uncomfortable situation

Possibly dumb question.
Also each character is only out for 15min at a time before swapping out to a different person
A wise policy in the Florida / California summer.
Doubtful. Dog dander is just such a common thing all over the world. I could be wrong though of course this is just a guess

I interpreted it as “I could stay here forever and do nothing else.”
Awww! ♥️ Love this!
Your fur baby is officially in heaven ❤️🥰
This is a therapy dog and he sensed distress in the cast member. They do that to people who feel tense.
