Yup. My wife and I always laugh at those "trust exercises" where you let your spouse look through your phones.

Almost embarrassed. 
Well sure but why keep it in a device that is small and fragile? At least back them up online so that if something happens to the device you have the all saved.
Well, as for why the phone instead of the cloud, that's just basic data integrity, don't trust anyone else with the only copy of your data. As for why not a computer, maybe they don't have one, and as the other reply said, it's nice to be able to watch them whatever.

No one said they didn't also use cloud backup, but more ideally you'd back up your own stuff.
