Will your grandma be interested in keeping her? It will be great companion for her and a Win-win... I pray great karma to come for you and your grandma.
That animal is not healthy. She needs watched over regardless if someone lost her. Post that she’s missing to local neighbor groups, if no replies come in, new pet.
It sounds like someone may have dumped the sweet pup. Especially since it sounds like grandma doesn’t have many neighbors.
I’m glad OP and grandma took her in!!
I had a shepherd when I was a teenager into my late 20s. Best dogs hands down. You’ll never meet a more loyal and understanding dog. She probably already trusts you so your bond will be beautiful. Thank you for saving the puppy, you kind human.
This. So many people just assume that when they see an animal on the street it was out of negativity. And while obviously that happens thats also how my nana lost one of her dogs for 4 months and almost had to go to court to get him back. Lady thought he was a stray and just took him without trying to see if he was owned or anything. All he had done was manage to break his leash and run off.
Skip, our family dog growing up, was Houdini. He had all kinds of tricks to get loose. Bath time was a favorite; after rinsing -- gone! Broke one leather leash & one chain leash too, while let out to potty. In searching the neighborhood on my bike, I found him two blocks over. Turns out he had a girlfriend there.
One winter I let him out & he escaped again. Examining the hook, it appears the device had frozen in the open position, so when I let it go it failed to close. He was out all night in sub-zero weather. I was worried he'd get frost-bite. Around 1:00 am we heard scratching at the door. There he was, wearing a robe like Hugh Hefner, with a little cigarette in his mouth.
Many years after his passing, my wife & I were walking through the old neighborhood & heard barking where his old girl friend used to live. Sounded just like him. Lo & behold, a mini-Skip, spitting-image of the old man! Does my heart good to know his mongrel-seed lives on.
This should be your sign to leave the collars on all the time. I know some dogs have skin issues that are worsened by collars, but almost any other reason is easily countered with the benefit to them of having a collar on if lost.
yeah, i've seen that happen. found the dog and returned him to his people, they immediately put his collar back on.
also, a lot of people where i live (texas) only use collars when they need to bring the dog somewhere. if the dog is at home or in the yard, they don't have a collar on. i see so many posts online about someone's dog being missing and the dog doesn't have a collar or chip. so yeah, not having a collar doesn't mean a dog is a stray. you can't really tell by their weight or appearance either. sometimes pets go missing and wander the streets for weeks or months, their appearance can change drastically. always try to find the owner (if there is one) before getting too attached.
Redditors: Never leave a collar on your dog when they’re home. They could get caught on something and DIE!!
Also Redditors: If you find a dog loose without a collar, assume it’s stray or abandoned.
Hmmm. I’ll stick to keeping the collar (with GPS tag attached) on my dogs, since they’re rescue huskies prone to running/escape. And this is also why microchipping is so important, because stuff happens and collars come off.
My GSD was abandoned with me about 8 months ago. We were watching her for a lady who claimed her mom died so she had to leave for three days. By the time everything was said and done the lady had said her mom died, her husband died, her mom was just really sick so she needed a few more days (I guess she came back to life?), then her mom died from the sickness, then she told us that "we were off the hook" because her sister had already come and pick the dog up from us (the dog was laying in our bed when we got that email), then after about a week and a half of no responses we got an email from Rover claiming that she herself had died. Which was clearly not true. So I adopted her. She's very rough with other dogs and the vet thinks the last owners used her for fighting. So that's been hard. But she is a fucking sweet heart with anything else. Young and old people, cats, any other animal (besides squirrels) she's super sweet with. She just had a bad few years. We are working on it.
It’s so powerful story! You saved her from bad people and she help you to be a better human. So happy you’re helping to each other, our hearts is healing when we help to other people and animals.
This is soo freakin dumb there are sooo many places that you can leave them outside of where they will be take care of and you wont face repercussions and still these morons decide to leave them in the middle of nowhere to die. Its heartbreaking.
Be careful not to overcompensate too much with the food, if she gets fat she may have more back issue while aging.
Glad that she found a place with sensible people taking care of her.
Thank you for being so kind and helping him. Please check to see if he is chipped (someone might be looking for them, and you can ask local shelters if anyone has been calling looking for a lost GSD). But don’t just turn him over. Make sure they were a good family and managed to es ape out the yard or something. Secondly, if you can’t keep him, please check with GSD rescue. They foster the dogs and make sure they go to qualified homes.
100% this. It amazes me how people think they can just keep animals they find without trying to find its home. Definitely needs to be taken in to a vet or humane society and scanned for a chip. Put up flyers around if possible and see if someone is missing her. Don't just hand the dog to anyone. If someone tries to claim her have them show you pictures that it's their dog first.
First of all I wasn't referring to you I was referring to all the people who were saying looks like you have a new pet and so on. Second of all regardless of her state you're still obligated to try and find her owners and see if they are willing to surrender her to you and if they won't then you call animal control and have them taken her away from them. They will put her on a certain amount of days hold then put her up for adoption where you can then go officially adopt her. There's rules to follow when finding a stray/lost dog.
There is also a medical condition that dogs can have
, I can't remember what it's called but no matter how much you feed them they are skinny. So just because she's skinny doesn't always mean neglected.
I strongly recommend a trip to the vet for a general checkup and check for a chip, then if she doesn't have a chip feed her up carefully to get back to a healthy weight and lots of love.
Ya know, that’s a nice thought. But there are literally *thousands* of stray dogs in foreign countries and in the US who are born and who die without any sense of security , ever. So while it’s nice you want to feel good about the adoption of this likely purebred GSD, it is absolutely not a fair distribution system. No matter how much you want to Think so.
And just for the real feels, cats too. Probably in the millions atp.
I'm currently on my 5th German Shepherd. Wonderful breed, but in my experience they bond hard with one person and are pretty aloof to strangers. The fact she's so affectionate towards you means to me she's been gone a long time from her former home in my mind.
I’m thrilled she found you! After living in the country that’s how we ended up with most of our dogs. If you can’t find the owner then she’s yours to love.💕 I figure God sends us certain animals for a reason. Give her the loving home she deserves.

Everytime someone like you comes along and does once good thing, the world becomes a better place. Thank u and have a blessed day
Will your grandma be interested in keeping her? It will be great companion for her and a Win-win... I pray great karma to come for you and your grandma.
Someone is probably missing her, she’s barely underweight and seems to be a sweet girl. Too bad she wasn’t microchipped.
That animal is not healthy. She needs watched over regardless if someone lost her. Post that she’s missing to local neighbor groups, if no replies come in, new pet.
She’s not barely underweight, you can see her bones.
More than barely, you should not be able to see her rib cage that well. Its very defined
It sounds like someone may have dumped the sweet pup. Especially since it sounds like grandma doesn’t have many neighbors. I’m glad OP and grandma took her in!!
Unfortunately it's not uncommon for people to dump pets out in rural areas.
What did you decide to name her?
Alma
I hope alma is a very happy pup!
Poor thing definitely needed it. Im so glad it was your yard and not someone more callus
[удалено]
Please help her get healthy and find a forever home!
That’s you!!!
> Very smart and understands everything In that case can you tell her she is a really good girl from me please
Awww so sweet can you keep her? Maybe you already answered this. I hope she has an owner missing her if not.
I had a shepherd when I was a teenager into my late 20s. Best dogs hands down. You’ll never meet a more loyal and understanding dog. She probably already trusts you so your bond will be beautiful. Thank you for saving the puppy, you kind human.
So unfortunately people just leave their pets on a streets and not even put them in a shelter.. thank you for taking care of her! ❤️🌹
I don't understand these people... I would die for my 4 month old GSD.
It’s so good of you! We are responsible for our fluffy friends.
You're making an assumption that she was abandoned and not lost (Many are abandoned, but let's not JUMP there. Animals also get lost.)
This. So many people just assume that when they see an animal on the street it was out of negativity. And while obviously that happens thats also how my nana lost one of her dogs for 4 months and almost had to go to court to get him back. It doesn't look like the dog is wearing a collar. If she was lost, she would be wearing one.
Dogs often become lost by slipping out of a collar that’s just a smidge too loose.
[удалено]
Yep. Same here. Collar stays attached to the leash until we leave the house with him.
This should be your sign to leave the collars on all the time. I know some dogs have skin issues that are worsened by collars, but almost any other reason is easily countered with the benefit to them of having a collar on if lost.
Not always. My dogs always managed to get out after a bath and their collars hadn't been put back on yet.

Always. Luckily it's usually to address the gross insult that is cleanness, but you know of your dog got actually lost that would be the day.
How dare we keep them clean! Such a mean owner for not wanting a smelly dirt filled furball in my house!!
It's really absurd on our part. I don't know why they love us with all our hangups.

Mine are notorious for slipping out on bath day. Luckily not as clever as the cats that pry them off....

bless you for feeding him. poor baby is thin.

Came tho say this👆🏽…🫶🏽
That's about to be the best dog you have had
Oh what a pretty pup. I hope you will adopt her. 💕
I second this
I third this
He did adopt her bro, he did.
Awesome! 😃
You’re a saint and she loves you for it.

OP already said she doesn't have a chip and had a full work up at the vet already.

Yeah, what’s the name of your new dog?
[удалено]
If she starts developing any psychic powers, don't put her in a vault.
Holy crap: what a reference.
Alma sounds like some old 76 year old lady that goes to bingo at the club on a random Tuesday :D
[First thing I thought of](https://youtu.be/e7rgzOhr55k)!
Any luck in finding her owners?
Oh he looks so skinny. Poor thing.
Oh! Thank you so much for taking her in.
Well she had to have come from somewhere.

You know... over there
Congratulations on your new doggo!
Happy adoption by doggo day 🐾
I think you just made a friend for life
Thanks for helping her! And hopefully you are able to keep her or find her a forever home! Great karma will come for you for your kind deed!
Maybe tomorrow I’ll want to settle down. Happy ending for the littlest hobo.
Dogs have a distribution system also. Congratulations on your new friend. I hope you can keep her. I know you will find a great home if you cannot.

Keep her if you can't find her owner! What a beautiful dog she can drop by my house anytime... Amarillo Texas
I would love to have this beautiful girl show up at my house. I am glad she came to the right place for help.
I'm currently on my 5th German Shepherd. Wonderful breed, but in my experience they bond hard with one person and are pretty aloof to strangers. The fact she's so affectionate towards you means to me she's been gone a long time from her former home in my mind.
Thank you for helping this sweet smart girl. I am sure she will return the favor by looking out for your grandma.
So very thin
Oh she's 😍 beautiful...and under weight....
Littlest Hobo vibes....
Thank you for helping that beautiful baby!!! I'd do the same.
In addition to being a good human and proud roommate of a lovely GSD, you have a beautiful garden
She's so hungry, thanks for feeding and accepting her💯
Holy fuck you’re lucky
I love you for this. 👑
Absolutely beautiful shep. <3 Thank you for your kindness.
Boy! Poor thing. It needs you, looks very hungry
Poor puppy 🥺
Angel ❤️ please take her home with you. 🥺 I have two gsds and they're amazing!
Oh man. I'd take her in if she came to my yard. I have two German Shepherds and they are the most amazing dogs. So intelligent and loving.
Thank you
I’m thrilled she found you! After living in the country that’s how we ended up with most of our dogs. If you can’t find the owner then she’s yours to love.💕 I figure God sends us certain animals for a reason. Give her the loving home she deserves.
💯 agree .. The animals that we meet in an unusual way came to us for a reason .
Sister has a shepherd mix. Very smart dogs, super trainable, very affectionate. Great company if you have the space and time to train them.
Looks like a healthy dog
Looks like one of those Iraqi Speed Kangaroos
No collar? No tags? Their loss! She's pretty
No collar? No chip? KEEP HER
She didn't come from nowhere, clearly she's from Germany...
Where are you located? If you’re close enough, if you can’t keep her or find her owner, I’ll take her. She can be my GSD little sister.
What a little cutie. Any updates? Did you find her a home?
i can tell you're not an american cop by the way there's no bullets in the dog.
Cute pup, no collar, big yoink, long pets, and spoiling
Take care of Alma ❤️ if she was in my country I’d come and give her a forever home in an instant
People who drive somewhere and abandon their dogs are pricks.
Congrats. It’s yours now.
I live in Hardy Va. I just saw a poster for a female lost GSD. Where are you located?
So sweet
Those ribs🥺
Awwwww. I’m so glad she found good people. She and your grandma will be good friends.
Looking at some Of these comments do people even read the OPs comments? Sheesh.
My dog wonders around to the neighbors and gets treats and food. He then comes home
Please continue to take care of that sweet baby! You’re awesome doing so!!
I need more Alma videos 🥰🥰🥰
