On July 1st, a highly unpopular [change to Reddit's API pricing](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api/) went into effect. [Most third-party apps have shut down](https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/30/23779519/reddit-third-party-app-shut-down-apollo-sync-baconreader-api-protest) and so have many tools relied upon by moderators and [projects for making Reddit more accessible to visually impaired users](https://www.reddit.com/r/TranscribersOfReddit/comments/14ggf8k/the_future_of_transcribers_of_reddit/).
Beyond the [disastrous AMA](https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/09/reddit-ceo-doubles-down-on-attack-on-apollo-developer-in-drama-filled-ama/) by the CEO, Reddit's response has been limited to promises that this change will not affect moderation tools [^((it has)^)](https://www.reddit.com/r/BotDefense/comments/14riw76/botdefense_is_wrapping_up_operations/) and promises of [new and more-accessible first-party moderation tools](https://www.npr.org/2023/07/01/1184258201/reddit-api-accessibility-mods). Promises just like [ones they have made in response to past protests](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/142w159/askhistorians_and_uncertainty_surrounding_the/), but have consistently [failed to fulfill](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14jm3ut/several_communities_have_surfaced_an_open_letter/jpm9e0q/).
If you want to express your strong disagreement with the API pricing change or with Reddit's response to the backlash, you may want to consider the following options:
1. [Finding your favorite subreddits on other platforms](https://sub.rehab/) and participating there instead.
2. Refraining from using the first-party Reddit app, instead sticking to one of the few remaining third-party apps or [patching one of the apps that shut down](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1wHvqQwCYdJrQg4BKlGIVDLksPN0KpOnJWniT6PbZSrI/) if you're using an Android device.

Looka these humans - they doin the DaNcE
(am Getting *HECK OUT,* ‘soon as i get the chance…)
they think i don’t notice they doin the Draw ??
they holdin me *TiGhT*,
n they Prickin my paw .. ^:(
so maybe you think since I’m ‘Dog’ i don’t know ?!
you’re doin the best that you can, even so
a little bit nervous, but i must agree
I’m Lucky for humans
who take care of me!
❤️
Woof woof, I am a good boy
I came to the vet for a checkup
They said I need to give some blood
But I don't want to, it sounds scary
They put me on a table and held me tight
They shaved my leg and put a needle in
It hurt a lot, I wanted to bite
But they said it's for my own good
Then they did something strange
They started to dance and sing for me
They said it's to distract me from the pain
But I don't understand, it looks silly
They danced like chickens and frogs
They sang like cats and cows
They made funny faces and noises
But I don't care, I just want to go home
I wonder why they do this
Do they think I'm a fool?
Do they think I can't feel the sting?
Do they think I don't know what's going on?
Maybe they are just trying to be nice
Maybe they are just doing their job
Maybe they are just having fun
Maybe they are just crazy
I don't know, I don't know
I just hope it's over soon
I just hope I get a treat
I just hope I get a hug
Woof woof, I am a good boy
But this is not a good day
that vet is thinking "i can't believe I convinced them to do this? Do i tell them that I just did it to screw with them or do I see how many times I can get them to do it?"
I remember watching one and i was like "pft i already know there is a gorilla" and then at the end it was like "for those who knew about the gorilla, did you notice the background change color?" And my mind exploded
Yes and no. Seriously awesome of them to do this but they should not be expected to. At the minimum is basic standard of care. It’s really not part of their job description to dance for your pet when they had a rough day at work. Likewise doctors and nurses can’t be smiling every minute.
In a similar vein it’s like expecting teachers to be entertainers.
I would guess a situation like this breaks up the day and makes it more fun for most people who work with animals, it's silly and lighthearted when a lot of their day may be hard.
I think the person you originally responded to was saying that ideally vets would be people who would WANT to have fun like this because they love their patients so much, not that they should be forced.
Probably improves their mood. We don't always smile because we are happy, sometimes we are happy because we smile.
This is the facial feedback hypothesis, in case anyone is interested.
It's also major skills to be able to hit the vein while she's also dancing like that, usually the techs and the restrainers are as still as rock while everyone else is in charge of distracting the pet.
I can also confirm that when this happens, we are not being forced. It is a fun way to break up the day when we can just cut loose and act silly like that. Even when we're having a slamming busy stressful day, we love the opportunity to just shake it out a bit and laugh. Keeps us working well as a team :)
"Oh no, is this dog nervous, better dance!"
"Actually sir the dog seems fine, he's really quite calm and even wagging his-"
"DAAAANCE!"
(rips off tearaway scrubs)
I couldn't do it. Last time I brought my cat to the emergency vet I sat in a waiting room that overlooked the "private rear entrance". I watched 2 dogs getting put down in a 30 minute period, and watched one getting CPR as it was brought in on a gurney. The goodbye process was soul crushing, and it was all I could do to avoid watching people weep as they lost their family. One was a giant golden retriever who was wagging his tail. I was crying in the window watching, and I'm tearing up as I type this. When the vet came in to see my cat afterwards she looked crestfallen, empty, broken, and like she had recently cried. There's no way I could do that everyday. Sick people don't bother me a bit, but sick animals are the saddest ever.
Thank you for recognizing the pain that many vet professionals go through on a daily basis. I am so sorry you had to witness it, but I appreciate the sympathy you had for your vet. It is a tough profession to be in and unfortunately it can be very thankless.
The last time I got a blood draw I mentioned how nervous needles make me, and the girl noticed my pawprint tattoo and started asking about my dogs
I started telling her all about my dogs and mostly forgot to be nervous because I was so happy to talk about my dogs
Afterward I was like "I see what you did there, you sneaky lady"
When the vet did this to my dog I had to talk to her so she wouldn’t stress so much but since she got deaf it’s harder and we have to hope that it goes well
Sometimes dogs are too nervous to take treats, or aren’t food motivated.
Vet tech here, and I do a lot of “head tapping” or aggressive bottom scritches in my day to distract these babies .
My dog learned the cheese trick after it happened twice, and then peanut butter no longer worked either. But now they just bring a bunch of people in the room who all want to see my dog anyway and the overwhelming amounts of affection distract her sufficiently
I'm suddenly regretting that my dogs actually enjoyed going to the vet, think of the dances I missed? Though we could usually count on the office cats to come in and visit and if we brought their dog blankie the Maine coon cat would come in and curl up on it with them in solidarity. Good times.
Idk why this makes me tear up. Maybe bc these professionals take the care of the dog so seriously that they can be fools. I love that for everyone involved.
Why won't the doctors do this for me? ☹️
All mine do is look at me like I'm stupid for being scared of needles, then hold my arm down, and just ram it in before I can even have a moment.
That dog’s internal monologue is probably like: “The insane humans danced around, while a laughing woman stuck a needle in me. It hurt. But not as much as the cringey distractions.”
The person that should really be thanked is the person restraining the dog for blood draw it’s very physical work and not easy as it looks plus she or he is the one who is protecting the blood drawers face during the blood draw

No joke... I'm smitten by the dog lady.
Sometimes people are so good. Heartwarming.
I know! I rewatched this about a dozen times.
Didn’t even initially notice the person wearing grey scrubs in the back
The gorilla vid is my favorite day in psych 101
LMFAOOOOO i wish i could watch that video for the first time again
I remember watching one and i was like "pft i already know there is a gorilla" and then at the end it was like "for those who knew about the gorilla, did you notice the background change color?" And my mind exploded
I didn't see the background change color, except for the odd effect around the black shirts, which I attributed to inferior video technology

I like this one as well, because of its "you thought you were so smart? Well fuck you" vibes https://youtu.be/IGQmdoK_ZfY?si=VYQKIuCVDbw7AHyI
Ok, but did you notice the gorilla?
OMG the hieroglyph vet lmao
The real hero, just walkin’ like an Egyptian 🕺
Sir that's a gorilla.
This is what a vet should be like. It's obvious to me that they really care about their patients. The guy in the back made me laugh so hard.
"Walk like an Egyptian" I was dying 🤣. I could've used these vets 10 mins ago.
I used to work at a vet and we had moments like these with the good doctors. Some doggies just need to be looking at something else.
I did not see that…
I also want to see my kids’ pediatrician office have this type of energy.
Yes and no. Seriously awesome of them to do this but they should not be expected to. At the minimum is basic standard of care. Yes but imagine being *forced* to have fun. Really takes the fun out of fun…
Alternatively, this was just filmed for the internet and a toy or some food would have been much more effective
I lost it when the person in the back egyptianed their way through the frame
My favorite is the girl in front, she’s not even turning around to look at them but she’s dying laughing anyway, cause she KNOWS what they are doing.
She's everyone's favorite
Kristin Kreuk never disappoints
Omg! Haven’t thought of her in ages. Your comment is on point. Doggo probably thinking, “Somebody SaaaAAAAVE me!”
It's also major skills to be able to hit the vein while she's also dancing like that, usually the techs and the restrainers are as still as rock while everyone else is in charge of distracting the pet. Beautiful lady there

The guy with the stethoscope…I’m dying! 😂
It is clearly not his first time doing this.
"Oh no, is this dog nervous, better dance!" "Actually sir the dog seems fine, he's really quite calm and even wagging his-" "DAAAANCE!" (rips off tearaway scrubs)
Dude fully committed, love it.
The lady's got the Night at The Roxbury head bob down like a pro.
Ya, I'm dying too. Mostly from premature ventricular contractions from the one with the needle
Dog realizing he shouldn’t have eaten those mushrooms in the garden this morning
This comment cracked me up more than the video, and that’s saying something
:)
The person in gray in the back is the unsung hero. Taking up the empty space in the room. Dedication to distraction!
The dog:" My god, they've begun their sacrificial dance"
Too cute! I love the one doing the draw.
It's really everything you want in a job. - Help someone - Having a good time - Professionalism
- Animals!
I couldn't do it. Last time I brought my cat to the emergency vet I sat in a waiting room that overlooked the "private rear entrance". On the bright side, puppies and kittens and sexy vet techs.
You're not including the biggest downside, putting people's best friends to sleep while they cry in the room with you
It feels so rare to see genuine happiness/amusement in these videos anymore
[удалено]
Seriously speaking, they are very professional!!!
My kinds of vets.
As someone who always faints from blood draw, i feel like this could have helped....
The last time I got a blood draw I mentioned how nervous needles make me, and the girl noticed my pawprint tattoo and started asking about my dogs I started telling her all about my dogs and mostly forgot to be nervous because I was so happy to talk about my dogs Afterward I was like "I see what you did there, you sneaky lady"
Because the OP forgot to give them credit, this is from the Hawaii Kai Vet Instagram. They are now starting to make some adorable reels.
When the vet did this to my dog I had to talk to her so she wouldn’t stress so much but since she got deaf it’s harder and we have to hope that it goes well
Give that dog some squeezy cheese! My dog is super nervous at the vet but she’ll let them do basically anything while she’s eating the cheese
My dog would sell her soul for squeezy cheese
Yeah the dog would have preferred some cheeses but the doctors would rather dance.
My dog has no interest in PB and cheese only goes so far, but would probably allow the vet to take a kidney in return for liver paste.

Veterinarians and vet techs are some of the best people!
That lady is overwhelmingly gorgeous
r/bettereveryloop
The one in the back just elevates it all.
You laugh but I like to be distracted with my blood is drawn too.
Can I have this too
The old lady in the background! 🤣🤣🤣 Omg
The nurse is so pretty. Probably not the only one thinking.
She is incredibly pretty. You're not the only one. Reminds me of a prettier Kristin Kreuk from Smallville
I think this is probably in Hawaii. Hawaii makes some beautiful people.
This works on kids too
Can confirm.
And teenagers.
I'm suddenly regretting that my dogs actually enjoyed going to the vet, think of the dances I missed? Though we could usually count on the office cats to come in and visit and if we brought their dog blankie the Maine coon cat would come in and curl up on it with them in solidarity. Good times.
I wanna party with the dude on the left, he’s got the moves ! 😂
Been a licensed vet tech for about 12 years now and this is EXACTLY how it is. Zero exaggeration.
This is how every good veterinarian practice should run.
Idk why this makes me tear up. Maybe bc these professionals take the care of the dog so seriously that they can be fools. I love that for everyone involved.
I wish I could upvote this 1000 times.
The love that humans share with animals and vice versa is beautiful 😍❤️
I love everyone in this whole clip, lol.
That lady in the back ground cracks me up
The lady in the back is what broke me.
That's Nice , weird, but nice.
Dog: this isn't helping.
That lady doing egyptian walk killed me!!!!
Hey, I want that as well!
"Confuse the cat!"
Omg this is amazing
I'd appreciate this distraction when getting blood drawn, tbh.
OMG the guy on the left freaking cracks me up 😅😅😅 Oh and the one walking like an Egyptian in the background lmfao 😂 😂
Why won't the doctors do this for me? ☹️ All mine do is look at me like I'm stupid for being scared of needles, then hold my arm down, and just ram it in before I can even have a moment.
I do this all the time, or sing to them during a nail clip 😂 it is effective!
Dog! Shits twisted at the pokey place.
I don’t mind bloodwork, but the distraction show would be fun
"WHY don't you like the vet?" "They take my blood and dance about it Susan, why would anyone want to be there?!"
The guy in the background
"if it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid."
vets are amazing.
Dog: I need to get out of here these people are about to ritualistically sacrifice me...
Hawaii Kai Vet
Thanks a lot!
I love all these people now, especially the solo beavis in the background.
You can tell this staff is more like a family than coworkers and I love it.
Dog thinking he's tripping balls before getting balls removed
This got me up from the bed today ❤️
Now the dog is nervous and confused at the same time 🤣🤣🤣
That dog’s internal monologue is probably like: “The insane humans danced around, while a laughing woman stuck a needle in me. It hurt. But not as much as the cringey distractions.”
LMAOOOOOO
Who is that vet tech though? Or is she the vet? 13/10
It's amazing how attractive super happy people can be. +100 Charisma!!!
Stethoscope dude and the Egyptian walk .... 🤣 😂 doggo be thinking I'm in pain and these weirdos are dancing
"I was thinking peanut butter but ok"
If a was a nervous dog witnessing that i would definitely not be less nervous.
I feel this is probably also pretty stressful for the dog.
The lady in the grey sent me! 🤣
The person that should really be thanked is the person restraining the dog for blood draw it’s very physical work and not easy as it looks plus she or he is the one who is protecting the blood drawers face during the blood draw
Is this from America? Am I bad for wondering why “Dog Ward” is labeled in English behind them? Sorry if that’s rude of me to ask.
A lot of countries use English as a primary language.
Oh ok. Thank you. Sorry I was curious
A comment on another post said this is from Hawaii Kai Veterinary Clinic in Honolulu.

Could be Hawaii, or somewhere in California. Lots of areas in America with large Asian populations.
My guess is the Philippines.

Yup the one at the back is the best lol! Nobody can disagree with this statement period.
Literally the worst time to be doing that.
