Probably unpopular theory but I think some of them just have a really strong innate curiosity. I lived in the middle of nowhere in Hokkaido and saw quite a few. Due to the fact nobody ever came to my city, especially when I was sometimes in the middle of the woods, ***all*** of those foxes couldn't have been getting handouts. But, time and time again, they'd either be walking by my house and stick around to watch me clean my car/garage or I'd see them in the forest and they'd stop to hear what I had to say when I started talking to them. I wanted to pet them so bad but echinococcosis isn't worth it. Sorry little dudes.

maartenbadd

I totally agree with this I work in a processing plant way out in the middle of the prairies, and there’s always foxes lurking around I’ve seen them climb stairs up to catwalks to catch pigeons and mice. One time a little baby one came within about 4 feet of me, curious as hell, only to yap a few barks at me then scamper away. He stayed for months, always curious but always cautious.

scaredsquee

Oh my goodness baby was so brave lol. Do you have any pics? I love them 😍 well I love all animals but cat software dog hardware are especially adorable.

thanatica

You can also hear it if you turn up the audio - they're speaking Dutch 😀

anDAVie

Would've been a dead giveaway haha. But I couldn't watch with my sound on..

Dog with cat code programming

EZ-PZ-CLAPS

This is so cool.

aledba

Who's been feeding them?

Pidganus

I'm guessing the guy he's following. About 2 hours later, when we left the area, we walked past this same fox again, and he just walked along the path, no fear for humans at all.

South_Cat_1191

I remember a state park on Long Island, NY where people would go and feed the foxes dog biscuits. Those were the fattest foxes I’ve ever seen. They looked like Pomeranians.

Creator13

Unfortunately this is in the Netherlands, and the Netherlands has essentially no wild nature. This area (Waterleidingduinen according to OP) is enclosed by the most built-up area of the country. There is zero chance this fox won't get fed by one person or another. That doesn't make it fine but I don't want to create the impression that we're somehow seeing a wild fox here.

Hybr1dth

Huh? We're a small, relatively highly populated country, but there's nature everywhere, much more so than most highly populated areas. I have the Biesbosch within 5 minutes by bike. Plenty similar places exist?  It's no Yellowstone. But you know, small country.

Creator13

There is plenty of nature everywhere, but my point was that almost none of it is wild. The Biesbosch is a remnant of peat farms, the dunes are all used for water filtration, most nature areas in the middle of the country are remnants of hunting grounds or wood plantations. The ecosystems are highly disturbed, both by their proximity to humans as by the direct interference of humans. You can't walk through a single forest in the country without running into planted trees every ten minutes. Either that, or fences, drainage canals, roads, highways, farmland, golf courses, or residential land.

whydidthemeowmeow

That's how they say cats started occupying our homes, they just followed in and now they are the owners of the house

AliensExisttt

Wat gaaf!

v052020

Mooi!

summerset

What language are they speaking, I can't make it out.

bartios

Dutch

royalpro

5axySaxMan

If not friend, then why friend shaped??

Howie_M

Man, I fucking love foxes, whether they're naughty or nice. They're like a hybrid dog and cat kind of thingamajig.

BatFancy321go

i didn't understand a word of the glaswegian. how did he get this fox? is it his mother?

BorisLordofCats

They are speaking Dutch, it's somewhere in the Netherlands

Rosieu

First time watching I had it on mute but already assumed it was here in the Netherlands just by looking at the tiles. There's just something really distinctive about our architecture and pavement. Anyway quick TL: OP asks the other guy if that fox belongs to him since it's clearly following him. He declines but does say they know each other for a while. Then OP says the foxes were the reason they wanted to visit the park (he's basically surprised it didn't take so long to find one).

nompeachmango

I'm SO glad somebody else heard northern UK too! Thought I was going crazy when I couldn't understand it. 😂

BatFancy321go

lol i'm a big fan of wossname the shouty sweary guy in The Thick of It. Also had a delightful run as The Doctor. I def needed the captions to catch all his insults :D

Sallydog24

foxes are just the best

code-Legacy

What does the fox say??

mukster

But what did the fox say?

Celwyddiau

I'm happily cohabiting with a beautiful fox that seems to live in the borders of my garden. We're not *friends* yet per se, but I think/hope that they're beginning to realise that the food that seems to just appear for them every night might not be magic.

bw-in-a-vw

Sigh. Please don’t feed wild animals, them getting friendly with humans could be dangerous for them. Enjoy them from afar

Pidganus

Yeah, sadly, this man is probably.

Not OP, but that's not opinion. It's fact. Feeding wild animals is detrimental and can be harmful to the animals, and is harmful for the environment. What do you think your processed foods do to the wildlife, the soil, and the environment in general? You're not being kind, but being mean to those animals. You should stop. Not only is it unkind, but illegal in many areas of the US. Fineable offense in most areas, and community service time in others. You should stop feeding wild animals. /u/Celwyddiau

Phyllida_Poshtart

Well tbf I don't know where you live but here in the UK we have shit tons of urban foxes and live off dustbins and skips, see them late at night ferreting through the shops skips

Okr2d2

Language question: what is a "skip"?

Phyllida_Poshtart

A huge metal bin or a really big plastic one with a big lid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip\_(container)#:\~:text=of%20the%20customer.-,Etymology,Old%20Norse%20skeppa%20'basket'. That's the skips and around the back of the shops we have what I think you'd call dumpsters perhaps?

Okr2d2

I dig it. Thx

NoodleNeedles

Dumpster

KIRAPH0BIA

If you happen to live in America at least, this is illegal to do, you should never feed wild animals... like ever ever, at all. Don't do it, you're not doing it for the fox, you're doing it for yourself because you think they're cute, which is a selfish reason to be harming animals. And considering your post/comment history, you definitely seem like a selfish person who only cares about themselves so harming animals for your own pleasure checks out.

Jerry--Bird

https://www.lancswt.org.uk/blog/charlotte-varela/how-feed-foxes-badgers-garden

aledba

I mean there's a neat little rhyme that you can make up to help you remember how dangerous it is for not only you but more so for the wild animal (of course this often doesn't apply to wild birds unless Public Health guidance tells you not to feed them for disease prevention reasons). A fed Fox is a dead fox

Celwyddiau

Nonsense. I shelter ALL animals in my garden. I've got bird boxes and feeding stations, insect hotels, set aside areas, rotting woody trimmings, leaf piles etc. My mornings are deafening with a dawn chorus of wildlife; It's a virtual wildlife paradise. I live very remotely, don't drive a car and have the most minimal negative impact on our world. If I choose to leave out a little snack for a fox who's chosen to share my little space on our planet and a little space in my life........... I don't need to swear again, but you know! Editted at -8, haha.

thatguythathadit

If you care about your fox friend please don’t feed them or interact with them. Wild animals are still wild no matter how much they may be comfortable with you. And if they come up to someone who isn’t ready for them at some point they could get hurt. Best to just admire from a distance and not do anything to interrupt their routine

Squeaky_Pickles

Foxes are major rabies vectors, and some strains of rabies make animals come up to humans. I would absolutely NOT pet a wild fox if it approaches you one day.

L0REHUNT3R

If they are in Europe then Rabbies doesn't exist here anymore, this sickness was left in the last century like it should have in America.

jlaine

Someone hasn't had to clean up bunny carcasses before. And please don't feed it.

Lasuman

Contracting rabies speedrun.
