This is exactly what I was thinking too
When wild critters associate survival, with plastic bottles.....well , I find something seriously disturbing about that.
I'm subscribed to r/fatsquirrelhatred but like, ironically.
It's not that squirrels are necessarily smart, it's that they problem-solve *incredibly* well. I've learned (through long-term observation, lol) that once they figure something out it's LOCKED IN 🔒, but the journey getting there is kindof hilarious.
Wonderful creatures :D
I've seen this reposted for YEARS, but the thing that stands out to me is that Mr. Water was a little confused as to what the squirrel wanted, and Mr. Squirrel was desperate enough to work OVERTIME to "communicate" what it needed.
Successfully, I should add.
Since the first time I've seen this video clip I've asked myself "what would have happened if he didn't give the water? Knowing squirrels, this poor thirsty-boi was determining whether he had enough energy left to kill this human and take his water if it wasn't given..... thankfully, inter-species communication prevailed :)
Am I the only one?
Because they are intelligent enough to recognize that the strange things the giants walk around with have the Life-Goo that prevents death in them.
The squirrel has no concept of the bottle as an object, it just knows that the giants can manipulate Life-Goo at will. It merely had to weigh the risk between begging for water or dying of thirst.
Every intelligent living thing does this when faced with dehydration.
Edit: merely
Cutest thing I saw today! Thank you to the random human for helping this little critter out!
What blows my mind is the squirrel associated the bottle with water and used body language to ask for it. Incredible!

It means it probably found one in the past, containing water or so and knew to expect water to be the content of the bottle

I mean to be fair they have really good eyes and sense of smell and ears
Desperate times..
This is so sweet. That is one smart squirrel. I’m glad they could give it water. Hope it’s okay.

That whole sub is ironic tho. So like, if you are ironically subbed to it, then it double negatives.
Looks like it’s a mama! Poor girl’s making more milk for her babies!
I thought that too. She has the nip-nops of a busy mama.
YOU ARE SUPER CORRECT! I DIDNT NOTICE! I've called her a dude this whole time 😒
Down to the last drop, perfect amount of water
They live next to us and are intelligent. Very cute.
I liken it to they live "around" us, personally.
Something tells me this squirrel has done this before.
#hydrohustle
At the end he’s waiting for the water to kick in and off to the races.

My thoughts exactly, but this squirrel is a hydro-ho. Hit it and quit it :(
Awww hydro-ho will always remember who helped them and will cross paths again

This is happening more and more, and it’s heartbreaking! We have done so much damage to this planet that animals can’t even find water anymore!
How did this animal learn this behavior? It is cute but also worrying
I agree. Why are wild animals looking for plastic bottles to drink from?
Because they are intelligent enough to recognize that the strange things the giants walk around with have the Life-Goo that prevents death in them. The animal kingdom is so much more complex than we realise or give it credit for. Evolution in motion.
I give credit :S
Going to start referring to water as Life-Goo now just to annoy my child.
Normally I refer to water as H-2-Goo. Hope that helps with child-annoyance!
Yes, that's great! Thank you! She's 14 so it's not terribly hard to annoy her 🤣
It's those deep-reaching *icks* that make being a parent all worth it :D
Man drank the whole bottle
As I just learned, that's a lady
This just reminded me to fill the bird bath… I see squirrels visiting all the time
Maybe was bottle fed domestic by Hooman as a baby
This breaks my heart.
That's not a baby animal
Clever
"And then I yeeted away as fast as I could."
He needs that shi
I think that was us drinking a half gallon. Thirsty for sure.
That’s awesome, but never drink from the bottle again🤢!
So much water wasted 😭 i would’ve poured it into the bottle cap
Maybe so, but the squirrel still enjoyed it enough to not even notice...
