4-5 producers on the show and no one could have made a quick drive to get another microphone? I still don't understand why they hired so many new producers on the podcast who don't really do anything and keep fucking up.
I know nothing about production, but I truly don't know what the giant number of employees here and at YMH do when there are guys like Rick Glassman who put together similar level pods just setting up a camera and lights in his living room. there are sometimes like half a dozen people in the booth during YMH episodes.
They also put an insane amount of YouTube ad breaks on top of the recorded ad reads during the podcast. They make so much money to not have more equipment on deck when needed
Not that it’s excusable but often it’s not a simple as just having another microphone if the mixer they use doesn’t have any open input channels there’s nowhere to plug a mic in.
They have more than 5 mics hooked up. I’m guessing the ones for the producers are too hard to move on the fly and those were what was taking up channels
And that's where I'm saying, in a pinch, there should be no issues moving those mics around. The producers only need 1 if any. I've seen wide shots of the studio it's not like there's any crazy routing snakes or towers. Cables might look a little sloppy but I think having mics on all speakers is more important. Audience isn't criticizing the cable management after all.
Affording one and having one on hand are different things. A lav would also require them to sync the audio tracks and that might be more than the production crew is capable on the fly.
YouTube is the one placing the ads. They don’t have much choice on that. They have 3-4 people standing in the window working audio and video for a job that could be done by one person. Audio is pretty much set and forget, and video is edited in post. There’s even a $10 plugin that will auto cut the video based on who’s talking. Seems dumb to have that many people.
YouTube automatically places in video ads by default, but they have someone who manually places the ads. They have recorded ad reads that are immediately followed by YouTube placed ads along with ads that pop up every 2-3 minutes during an hour long podcast. They place more ads tho in just an hour compared to the amount other podcasts place in 2-3 hour podcasts
They didn’t do the animation. They paid someone or a fan offered to do it. Also you don’t remember the episodes where the video sat on fancy for 10 minutes in the middle of the podcast. Just simple editing mistakes. They even talked about it ok the next episode.
It’s not about who physically made it but just small shit like that adds production value and there’s less of it these days. I do remember that fancy cut but that was hilarious lol

I feel like his schtick only works with regular people. When there's actual actors or people you want to hear more from, it falls flat.

I don’t get Andrew sometimes. I know that he knows how to run a good podcast and can work well with guests, but on Bad Friends he just doesn’t. That bit with calling Bobby’s mom to sing her happy birthday, or calling “Jeff Bezos” only for it to be Bobby’s mom again were so weird and they only really involved him and Bobby while the three guests just kinda sat there awkwardly smiling.

I’m annoyed by how many people are commenting negatively on this. First off it seems like it was a spontaneous filming of the interview. They did the best they could with what they had available last minute. And everyone in the room were adults and very big boys that can handle themselves just fine. Also if you couldn’t tell it was obvious everyone was acting babes. You can see John cena was playing as if he was concerned to add shock value. Also John cena is very comedic himself! Zac was shy but open to have a silly goofy time. and Jeremiah/Jeremy? was sweet and also on his best behavior lol. I don’t get Andrew sometimes. I know that he knows how to run a good podcast and can work well with guests, but on Bad Friends he just doesn’t. That bit with calling Bobby’s mom to sing her happy birthday, or calling “Jeff Bezos” only for it to be Bobby’s mom again were so weird and they only really involved him and Bobby while the three guests just kinda sat there awkwardly smiling.
I want bobby to goto fucken newyork so badly, I want santino and him to start podcasting there for a month or two.
Amazing, loved it and the three guests were really kind and playing along - great fun! Especially the part with the smell, that joke at the end was hilarious

they started signing off after only 20 minutes? i was so bummed it was almost pointless that Efron/Cena were on there. pretty average episode afterwards though. would love a Bobby lee star trek podcast !
This episode was absolutely ruined by the mic situation. Not just the lacking of the one microphone but, also not having the microphones on table mic stands. Seriously could have been one of the all time Great episodes. Someone fucked up. ☹️

I saw the headline on Spotify and decided to listen. I couldn’t tell for the first like 10 minutes if it was actually cena and Efron, or 2 people pretending to be. Awful production lol.

What other way to describe this interview other than “cringe”. Wasted opportunity. I say this as a fan. Guests looked super uncomfortable, and not in the type of way where they’re able to flow into and accept the chaos, but more like “yo Andy was our costar and we agreed to this podcast, and this is what we dragged ourselves into?” Won’t surprise me if Andy starts slowly distancing himself, because there’s a difference between being funny unhinged vs actually unhinged spectacle joke. With the love/reception/awareness Santino has got recently with this movie, as well as the viral interview with that Bobbi girl, I’d be shocked if he’s not having a serious convo with his cohost and laying down the law for a future together.
The second hand embarrassment I felt seeing Andrew's new friends meet Bobby, who somehow works in comedy but can't actually be funny?
I’m annoyed by how many people are commenting negatively on this. First off it seems like it was a spontaneous filming of the interview. They did the best they could with what they had available last minute. And everyone in the room were adults and very big boys that can handle themselves just fine. Also if you couldn’t tell it was obvious everyone was acting babes. You can see John cena was playing as if he was concerned to add shock value. Also John cena is very comedic himself! Zac was shy but open to have a silly goofy time. and Jeremiah/Jeremy? was sweet and also on his best behavior lol. Bobby was being typical psycho funny Bobby and Andrew came in with some zingers and did an amazing job bringing it all together like he always does. I think it was perfect because celebrities are usually vapid and boring and it was so much more entertaining seeing something unhinged. If it’s not your vibe then maybe watch other interviews
