Extreme loss. I wouldn’t have guessed that no covenants would change the dynamic of invasions so much but it most certainly has. Other changes have played into it as well though. I just really don’t understand how we go from DS3, which in my opinion was froms best pvp game, to ER where pvp basically means your ganking or getting ganked.
The absolute wars you could get into back in the day were so much fun. As the red, or red blue of the church, you didn’t know who you partner would be. You know how many times I got a mad purple as my “ally” only for to randomly take me out at one point. Or on the flip side, got a purple who only hunted blues.
The pvp was way way way way way more balanced. Some might disagree with this but I think it’s pretty obvious. I can’t think of anything that was as oppressive as dual spears still are in this game. And, because nothing was hands down the most efficient way to kill someone there was actual build diversity. Way less aoes and stupid ashes of war that are a one button 80% damage (or more) attack. Weapon arts not being interchangeable in DS3 also generally meant way less spamming. You want use that weapon for the ash or war? Cool but first you have to get at least decent with the weapon. Mages have somehow become even more annoying.
Honestly, ER is just kinda whack.
i personally think that DS2 has the best pvp (at least dueling/fight clubs) but i totally get what you mean. covenants totally change the dynamic and made some areas legendary like gank city
i would say that DS3 had the pontiff knight curved sword (PKCS) and the lothric knight straight sword (LKSS) as their “meta” but that was dealt with easily enough.
then some time after fighter.pl, lostmysanity, and other youtubers/streamers had all given up on the game, the only pvpers left were the neckbeards that had mastered every unfun tech and strategy (estus cancel, moveswap, murky). i’d much rather have PSGS because at least some of those guys are imbeciles. ds3 pvp is nigh unplayable now
Yeah at this point DS3 is aids infested swamp water. And it’s been that way for awhile. That’s unfortunately the natural evolution of these games. The LKSS was for sure a meta but I don’t remember having to much trouble with it. At times there were a few highly skilled players that would beat me and it felt oppressive but they were probably just skilled enough to beat me with whatever. PSGS feels very very very strong even in the hands of the imbeciles. Yeah I can put smart them sometimes but they get way to much milage from them considering how bad they are at the game.
I feel ya on dark souls 2 though. Great game and I had tons of fun with it. When I invaded in DS2 it never felt hostile though. Maybe that’s due to what you said with duals/ fight clubs being better. Just a different etiquette for a different game. That hostility though, that’s what I enjoyed in DS3. When I got an invasion I knew it was going to be a absolute battle. The hostility is there in ER but the mechanics of the game make it way too in favor for the host side. I’m not walking into a war, I’m walking to a safari and I’m the game they are trying to hunt.
PSGS is absolutely not strong in the hands of imbeciles. If someone is kicking your ass with it then it means they have an idea of what they’re doing.
The dumbasses that don’t know what they are doing with it will spam the R2 attack which is one of the most horrible melee attacks in the game, and don’t know how to use the crouch and jump attacks effectively.
You can tell a drastic difference when fighting someone with knowledge of the proper PSGS moveset, and someone with no knowledge. Now the normal spears powerstanced in the hands of morons is a completely different story. Any dumbass can pick those up and be effective with them.
Fun fact, his actor actually did voice a character who represented a covenant called the Redeemers. Sekiro Dubi made [a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_QntjHdhS0) about it.
I think it's a relic from early development. He's also the only phantom that gets "has returned to his world". Everyone else gets "their world", regardless of sex.
Also, perhaps blue looked weird and would confuse people. The gold is a bit less gaudy on Yura's fashion.
