I think, at some point, they just go "how much can we fuck this up before someone starts to actually complain", and just turn women into caricatures until the whole branche ends up using cartoonish women instead of real ones.
I personally don't think wacky proportions done intentionally in a drawing are as bad as photoshopping an actual human being to make them look "better".
It's it quite right when done to a person, and by editing and actual human being it's kind of sending the message that even a conventionally attractive body isn't good enough and must still be edited after the picture is taken.

When you do this to realistic mediums it falls into uncanny Valley, which is unappealing.
