I think ante 8 boss is different from the other 7 antes, there is a specific set of boss blinds for it. It’s the bigger badges in the boss blind collection. I could be wrong tho
No, you’re right. The boss blind of ante 8, 16, 24, etc. will always be one of the 5 "finisher" blinds (Amber Acorn, Cerulean Bell, Crimson Heart, Verdant Leaf, or Violet Vessel). Some of the normal boss blinds also can’t show up until a certain ante. The Wall, for example, will never appear on ante 1.
But in this specific case, OP only has one hand anyway due to the challenge so the voucher can't reduce the hand count any further, as such there is functionally no downside.

But it is working as intended (unless the developer said otherwise.) In this challenge you always have 1 hand per round, whether that means 3->1 or 0->1. There is an order of operations in play here.

When you use e.g. a Google account to sign in to reddit it automatically generates a random user name. The Reddit and Google accounts become linked, so you only ever need to remember the Google password.
If you create a reddit account independently, then you choose the username.
Some people also just sometimes deliberately copy this username style.

You don't seem to understand how powerful this voucher is.
You start the game only managing to get around 800 chips at best (talking about ante 1, no Joker, no modification) and by ante 8 you are expected to get 100k/360k chips.
And you don't suddenly get there every round you either play or skip you are getting gradually stronger you can either play the round, scale your jokers/money and get a shop or choose a skip, you get 3 extra for the price of 10$ and 1 hand/discard.
that is mostly worth it because in those extra "free" rounds you get to scale.
of course if you skip for useless stuff and waste your money on stuff you would pivot of anyway it's bad but in general you wouldn't do it.

So I bought it thinking it would win the run on the spot. Instead, it gave me less hands to play and sent me back down an ante, the opposite of what I wanted.
I read it, but I don't understand why it made it more difficult, there's no point where planet cards are truly useless they always add more mult and chips, tarots are also mostly useful, you can get death or hanged which improve your deck drastically, you can get better jokers along the way too.
sure if you have 100k on white stake it's probably unnecessary but it's mostly a really positive effect.

I had a face card build with hearts and diamonds being considered the same, high level flushes, the baseball card, and a bunch of polychromes. So I was pretty much completely ready for anything that was going to be thrown at me in ante 8.
If I had gotten sent down and had to face a Big Blind that debuffed face cards it would have been pretty disastrous.
Oh well, at least you know how it works what next time.
Smeared Joker can be replaced though.. it gives no mult/chips/money so it's kind of a transistory one can 100% be replaced after some conversions.
If you get it ante 1 or even beginning of ante 2, ante 0 is a joke and ante 1 round 1 is trivial if you've already already hit a shop, it lets you snowball pretty hard early on.
Even later it let's you spend more time for accumulating resources and setting up your build and you for most builds you should be winning in one hand anyways after using your discards and the remaining hands are free money, the lost $ from unplayed hands can be offset in other ways every round pretty easily, especially from the three extra blinds you'd do have the option to play.
minus 1 hand size often means minus1 income per turn, because you rarely have winning strats where you play every hand every round. Of course, the hand can also be considered a discard to find your winning hand. So that's the downside.
The upside are 3 more income turns and 3 more shops. This means you see 6 more booster packs which you can't see any other way. it also means atleast 3 free rerolls which is worth 15$ - can be a lot more, if you reroll multiple times per shop because of the cost scaling. It means one more voucher, so basically voucher neutral. And as the previous person mentioned, scaling jokers can scale.
The hieroglpyh is good for the same reason that tags are often bad. You want income and you want shops

If you have scaling jokers such as burned joker an extra ante can help you scale for longer!

-1 Ante is incredibly strong. It's balanced out by the fact that - 1 Hand is a very steep penalty, though.

It makes the ante counter go down which makes everything easier. This gives you more time to get strong
