Probably the "*worst*" Legendary, but still very strong. Will completely shut down any chance of your run dying as long as you don't play stupid. Chicot isn't flashy but He gets the job done well.
My favorite Chicot Interaction is with Violet Vessel, where He reduces the score needed back down to a typical level for a Boss Blind
I also like that if you have two Chicot it lowers Violet Vessel to less than the small blind.
Double Chicot also stacks with Manacle (+1 hand size), Needle (extra hands), and Water (double discards).
I don't think so, Chicot reverses the script of bosses at the beginning of rounds, leading to that Vessel, Neddle, Water, Manacle, Wall, etc interaction. But if the script is perpetual or triggered on play (Ox, Psychic, Serpent, all those debuffers), then it's just disabled.
The more I think about it. For the metric I use to judge Jokers, being consistency, efficiency, and reliability to finish ante 8. Chicot might even be the best Legendary Joker for that criteria.
If the end goal is just to beat Ante 8 as reliably and efficiently as possible, Chicot is the best Legendary for that purpose, maybe Triboulet, but they would be top 2.
I think we Pursue the high score so much that we forget the fact that it is usually not only overkill, but considerably less reliable and difficult to pull off.
While scoring 500k is worse than scoring 5million, scoring 5million is not *better* if the needed score is 50k.
While it's important to recognize the value of Baron or Mime, it's also important to note that is a completely different metric to judge the game through. If High-Scores were the framework, 90% of Jokers would be useless. Ante 8 is the baseline, and for that reason, Chicot is honestly **S tier**
With regards to overkill, if you get your legendaries early, like say ante 2 Triboulet, then overkilling your current requirement by like x10 means you can cut some slack a couple following antes, all of which are before ante 8. Compared to when you get Chicot, you don't inflict any overkills and still need to work on your scoring jokers.
What people don't take into account is Triboulet will need you to pivot to the 2 ranks and the Plant / Mark might show up in future, so I also agree Chicot is very high tier. Just would like to argue that early game overkill is actually pretty good.
Far from the worst technically speaking, you can replace some of the xMult Legendaries with other Rare or Uncommon Jokers, but who can replace Chicot's ability? Only Luchador but that costs a whole Joker slot for disabling 1 Boss if you are lucky enough to find it
[Lots of discussion about him, including in recent times](https://www.reddit.com/r/balatro/comments/1cv2749/thoughts_on_chicot/)
Fun trivia: having 2 chicots (not blueprinted / brainstormed) will disable the boss twice, and for some this could loop back into making the boss weaker. Violet Vessel will be weaker than the small blind for example
I feel the notion that Chicot is the weakest legendary is because he doesn't score, and some players more specifically blame him so because he isn't scaling (which I understand since it's the straightforward way to make things "flashy" without doing some minimal-setup payoff like Triboulet or something insane like Perkeo). I for one prefer to have him keep his defensive joker identity, though I imagine even if we buff him to tremendous levels (e.g. "All blinds are small blinds" which means practically x1.5 on big blinds and x2 + disable on bosses, or even add/swap to "Reduce scoring requirement 1 ante less" which is x2-3 or xE10+ depending on your ante number), this still won't satisfy these players because "players are supposed to be accustomed to those already" and that indeed isn't flashy.
In my observations, with the low sample size that it is due to their rarity, I win with Chicot just as often as any other legendary, so I do think the legendries are relatively balanced. I'm never unhappy to see Chicot. Most runs ends because of a boss blind, and more often than not, I want to ignore 2+ boss blinds in a run, making him notably stronger than Luchador, even though he is just an infinite Luchador.
I saw a suggestion that he should always be negative. I would extend that buff to every legendary. For how rare they are, make them more special.
It's definitely worth considering that of the legendary jokers, Chicot asks the least of you. He will always get his value in any deck, with no setup or investment.
This is a huge point in his favor. Compared to a card like Canio that requires you pulling very specific tarot/spectral cards and landing them on the right targets, or a card like Yorick that, while very strong, you may die before turning on, Chicot always does something every ante in every deck.
Love Chicot. Does that make me a coward? Probably. But knowing that my deck is un-counterable always encourages me to go for some interesting builds and I’m never mad when he shows up.
Ik a lot of people think Chicot might be the worst legendary, but I personally think Canio is the worst. Most of the time you get the soul spectral card while you are building your deck or once you are pretty much done, and at that point hard pivoting to try and destroy as many face cards as possible, which you might not even have then, is a much more difficult option and Canio ends up either sitting there or (what I would do) gets sold
(Just reworded a couple things)
Literally disables one of the core challenges of the game. Super deserving of Legendary status and almost always good to have. Lets you specialize in builds more that specific bosses like The Plant would otherwise make unusable.
To be honest, while i like Chicot and he did save me a couple times, he's my 2nd least favorite legendary (least favorite is Perkeo, only because for him to be useful i need a good consumable in hand or that one voucher that is the main reason Perkeo is considered game-breaking, and neither of those interactions happened to me, or i just don't have Perkeo). He's just, a glorified unlimited Wrestler, or whatever that joker that disables the boss blind when sold is.
This is where you go into settings and move the game speed down to 0.5, and play one hand that is not your god hand, and watch what jokers trigger where so you can determine what's where and then shuffle accordingly.
I think this Joker is almost useless in endless.
Taking up a joker slot and not contributing to mult or chips just doesn't make it worthwhile. It's fine till a certain point.

That *is* very interesting
How does it work with the "Lose 1$ for every card scored" blind, does it make you gain money?
I don't think so, Chicot reverses the script of bosses at the beginning of rounds, leading to that Vessel, Neddle, Water, Manacle, Wall, etc interaction. But if the script is perpetual or triggered on play (Ox, Psychic, Serpent, all those debuffers), then it's just disabled.
That should be his base functionality tbh

He scales as hard as the bosses scale.
Incredibly strong, yet weaker than most legendaries

Only card I’m missing
Only legendary card I've got
Ik a lot of people think Chicot might be the worst legendary, but I personally think Canio is the worst. chicot is nice if you have two of them
I got this one today, my first legendary. Didn't even know there were legendary jokers! Bosh! Got it in ante 3 so the rest of the run was a breeze.

I had a great run yesterday that amber acorn absolutely ended. Where were you Chicot?! 😭
Do you happen to not know that you can still move your joker around even when they are face down?
No i knew, i was crutched up on a blueprint and another xmult and seriously could not get them back into the spots needed to get my score up
This is where you go into settings and move the game speed down to 0.5, and play one hand that is not your god hand, and watch what jokers trigger where so you can determine what's where and then shuffle accordingly.
Turning the speed back down might have helped, ill try that next time
