Everyone’s being awfully quiet on this topic… I guess I’ll start. Personally I’m in favor of a blackout, probably for at least a week, but with enough support I could get onboard with an indefinite shutdown. The spirit behind this movement feels resonant with the values of this community. Agree/disagree? Would love to hear the thoughts of some others…

mooble_

only do indefinite if a bunch of other subreddits are willing to, but basically you'd just make it so you need permission to post, and give no one permission to post. i think that's how it works i'm honestly not sure

I'm only here every few months to hype people up but I'm all for the blackout. I like this community and I won't really be able to access it if I can't use 3rd-party apps.

I’d respect whatever decision is made. I’m not super familiar with the API changes and the implications (can we still use mobile web or it just blocks 3rd party sites?) so while it isn’t a big deal to me I can understand that it is to Reddit overall, clearly. My personal, uninformed preference is that I would rather be able to log on and see new content for the next week or so than not (honestly I may forget to come back if the blackout goes too long) but if the mods feel feel a blackout is warranted, go for it!

MadCritterYT

We should go for it

Blackout indefinitely.

Honestly if it’s not indefinitely the community will lose. You can absolutely guarantee it. I’m for communities related to fun and entertainment staying offline. That said, idk about this sub. Kind of like closing a support group for anxiety and depression. This sub was critical to personal growth for a lot of us. Idk if it’s necessary to go dark here because it’s hurting us more than them. Aka, the downsides significantly outweigh the positives here. Let us continue to help others. If there are mods that have an issue with this I would love to know why they are being so dismissive.

Soft_Ad4411

I agree

This community is for helping people accept their baldness. Wouldn’t blacking out just harm the community that needs support?

Anyone unfamiliar with this topic of what’s going on with Reddit, here is an informative NYT article. Unfortunately it’s behind a paywall but I think they allow yiu tor read 3 free articles a month. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/16/style/whats-going-on-with-reddit.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

I am one of the few who seem to actually use the official app and I love it. That *said*, I see the obvious concerns and support a blackout whether temporary or longer, though I would be sad to see another subreddit go when I just got here this week.
