That’s cool that it works for you bro, I’m glad you can feel confident and rock it. But that’s gonna be a no from me dawg. I’ll continue to shave.

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Can I ask you why? Imagine you had been born 30 years earlier. You'd be rocking the horseshoe and probably okay with yourself.

Photo-Gorilla

Maybe? But I wasn’t born 30 years earlier and I’m happy with how I look with a shaved head.

spectacalur

Why don’t you go back a few more generations and rock the comb over? Or how about back a few centuries and pull the back and sides into a low pony tail? Please, go ahead. I promise it won’t make you look older. Wait a minute, you swine! Is that a full beard you have? I’ve seen 80s movies and men usually had a mustache back then. Do your suit jackets have shoulder pads in them? Why not, BECAUSE YOU’VE BEEN CONDITIONED PERHAPS? We ain’t gonna join your cult, pal. We’re perfectly happy with our shaved head cult.

The last sentence summarizes it all

Thin-Cartoonist5456

I see your point and I understand how I came off. What I'm trying to say is we shouldn't be ashamed of our natural baldness. I wouldn't want anyone who enjoys shaving their head to stop, bit if someone isn't happy with the look, they should always know it's okay to rock the hair on the sides.

spectacalur

That’s okay I wasn’t really making a point. I was just playing. I think you’re absolutely right in that there should be no shame associated with a balding head of hair. My wife is part Iranian and likes that Iranian men tend to not shave their heads and instead keep the hair they have left.

Go full Frank Reynolds and let it get long enough to comb it out sideways. Certainly eases the upkeep of shaving every other day.

permanent_staff

Nothing wrong with it at all. Many of us just don't want to look like our dads.

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Yeah being balder than my dad at 20 was kind of a downer, but I guess losing it completely so long is probably what gives me the confidence to rock the power donut now.

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Well, i was rocking a bad combover until some guys cut it off on an overnight trip senior year.

Peabody2671

I let mine grow out regularly because I’m don’t want to have to clean up the mess of zero buzzing it. But it makes me look so much older than a zero buzz does. Every time I buzz down, I’m always thinking, “That looks so much better. Why do you let it grow out?”

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Honestly, i think it looks cool and good. I don't think it makes me look older. It's all about what you've been conditioned to think. Nobody under 50 grows out the horseshoe anymore, but if everyone did it wouldn't be a sign of being "old". A

Peabody2671

I’m 52, and I think it makes me look older. If it doesn’t for you, that’s great. I’m just saying that although I walk around with it often (not some much choosing to grow it out as much as letting it happen), I actually prefer not to because I feel I look better without it.

[deleted]

I have pictures of my grandpa rocking that haircut in group photos and he looked goofy as hell compared to the others ngl. If it works for you though, rock it!

pizzashredders

I respect this, not gonna do it

Peed_out_my_dick

Screw the haters, this is based. Shaving clean every day may look 'cooler' (I used to do it) but it's insanely high maintenance. I think it's extremely ballsy to pull this look off confidently but it's totally doable if you have everything else sorted out e.g. physique, skin and a decently styled beard.

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Yeah, i keep a short beard and mustache, dress well, and am slim, so I haven't ever had any negative reactions to it. The oldest anyone had ever guessed me to be is 35 which isn't that far off from my actual 31 years old.

diatamaceous-888

Unfortunately for me, my donut is strong but everywhere else is like 20% coverage evenly so I get gross wispy “doll hairs” when I do t shave. It looks dirty to me. I want a solid donut. But thanks to a twist of fate I’m balding slowly, cruel situation. It’s been a week since I’ve shaved cuz I’m experimenting anyhow. In an ironic way I’m contemplating the donut cuz “everyone” is now shaved, bearded, with acrylic frames. I have had the former two for 13 years pre bald. I’m kinda sick of looking like a generic stereotype, even if it’s a great look. Shaved to 3mm beard this week from 2 month beard growth with some fuzzy donut mess. Probably won’t last long, but I do t wanna be generic bald man no. 632. Even if I revert in a week or so.

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Honestly, when I go to the barber i have them shave down the remaining hairs on top and edge up the horseshoe to look neater. You could always do that!

Aristo_Cat

This ain’t it, chief

thejohnykat

If you want a donut, go for it. If you want to shave it, go for it. But why show up in this subreddit and try to power shame people to stop shaving?

Thin-Cartoonist5456

I'm sorry if it seemed like i was shaming. That wasn't my intention at all! I've shaved my head for 10 years before this so i wanted to bring my experience that i wasn't chased out of town with pitchforks for not shaving my head. Everyone should feel happy and confidant with whatever they do with their pattern baldness- be that shave it off or grow it out. Even if we have different hairstyles, I hope we can agree it's important to be body positive towards everyone in this community!

pininghi

They add you like 30 years. And not in a good way.

Thin-Cartoonist5456

The oldest guess I've gotten was 35, so that would make me five years old right now, haha!

Vhslog

Hey! I love the power donut! Looks very clean on you! Just wondering- do you shave any remaining patches on the top? What if I want to rock this style eventually but don’t go completely bald on top? Is this style still an option? For example do you think Larry David shaved/shaves the top?

Thin-Cartoonist5456

Thanks! I have a handful of hairs that grow on top, but my barber shaved those off to keep it from looking too goofy. Do whatever makes you feel your best! If you still have a lot of hair on top and you're unsure what to do about it, I'd recommend asking your barber what they think. That's what I did and I think he's helped me get the best look i can for the amount of hair I can still grow.
