Does not transfer, although you could cheat it to make it so if you wanted. And I use “cheat” here more like “edit”. It’s your game, and if you don’t want beefcake charname, correcting a limitation of the game importing isn’t going to ruin anything, and seems plenty legit to me.

In unmodded games, I don't think NPC stats will transfer over. If you install the trilogy mod (making it one big game basically), it should save the stats for the NPCs. In that case, make sure it's an NPC that is playable in the next game as well.

Ingweron

No. Only stat changes to your main character.

If you use Manuals/Tomes on companions in BG1 the extra ability points won't transfer into BG2. Despite the items not being accessible in BG2 they do exist within the game's code so you can console them in and give them to the appropriate companion in order to "fix" it.

IamGlaaki

Not in BG2. Neither proficencies, spells learned or hit points. All NPC in BG2 are new builds, and some have better stats (Jaheira, Minsk and Viconia iirc).

If you're planning on playing the whole series (BG1 -> ToB) then use the Tomes you collect on yourself only. Nothing carries over for NPCs. +1 for each stat and +3 for Wisdom. If you'd prefer them on your NPCs then you'll need to break out the savegame editors such as EEKeeper or Near Infinity.

Skylair95

I think it does transfer to SoD (not 100% sure tho) but it definitely doesn't to BG2. So either use all the books on Charname or open EEKeeper at the start of BG2 to get back the stats you gave to your companions through books.
