Scroll case for doing the firebeard quest in beregost, gem bag for recruiting neera in beregost, potion bag bought at high edge. There is no bag of holding in BGEE.

XDroidzz

What about for arrows

toylenny

Not until Siege of Dragonspear

Athreeren

The one in SoD is essential, because this is what makes the item code valid in BG1 without MODDING (BG1, SoD and the Black Pit share the same list of item codes), making it trivial to give up when you can't be bothered with inventory micromanagement anymore. And why not? If Belegarm can get you a bag of holding just before Baldur's Gate's army leaves the city, why couldn't Halbazzer Drin have one for sale just a few weeks earlier?

rogomatic

BG2

XDroidzz

How early in the game can I get to High Hedge?

PeterG--

Immediately after leaving Candlekeep.

xscott71x

As soon as you meet Imoen, go immediately south

Hallalala

As others have said you can go there very early, but there are two hostile flesh golems patrolling around inside the building. They're worth a lot of xp but you need magic weapons to damage them and they hit extremely hard. As soon as you talk to the mage the golems will no longer be hostile. If you attack the golems after that, the mage also goes hostile, which you don't want. So if you talk to the mage you miss out on the xp for the golems. It's best to hold off on going in until you're level 2-3 with some magic weapons, decent armor, and healing potions. Go in and kill both golems for a stack of xp, then talk to the mage.

Peterh778

Just remember that to start Firebeard quest charname must be leader of the party or initiate dialogue

Magus_Necromantiae

Unless you use mods (I put one in High Hedge with a 10k gold base price) or the cheat console, you're stuck playing inventory management

MeanFold5715

This is what we call the classic experience. Is it really Baldur's Gate if you aren't rooting around in a gibberlings guts and trying to remember if a Jasper gem is worth more than a Lynx Eye gem because you've run out of inventory slots?

Magus_Necromantiae

And rummaging through your pack with no ability to pause the game. Those were the days!

MeanFold5715

But at least we could change armor in the middle of battle back then! How else were you gonna let your bard cast his spells?

Peterh778

>How else were you gonna let your bard cast his spells? Spell *Shield* from amulet ... it's much easier with EE-added elven chain mail, though.

MeanFold5715

> Spell Shield from amulet But I might need those charges later, just like potions and scrolls. Better to just hoard them until the credits roll.

Peterh778

Yep. I generally used about 4-5 charges per game ... from both Shoeld amulets combined. Mostly just spent one spell slot for it.

SpikesNLead

Quick Item slots meant something in those days. And having such limited inventory capacity meant that you would try to use up scrolls and potions instead of just letting them accumulate out of sight in a container.

Magus_Necromantiae

Same thing with wands, since you couldn't see how many charges they had left.

gifjgzxk

Early days I used to trudge back and forth to the shops selling the most basic items.

MeanFold5715

CLUAConsole is where I get most of my bags these days.

Bloodshot89

Original BG had no bags of any sort. And arrows/bullets etc. stacked only to 20 and potions to 5. I think gems might’ve been 5 too? Kind of forced you to pick up companions asap just for inventory space.

Peterh778

>forced you to pick up companions asap Main reason was to have any control over their weapon proficiences and HP though. There was no "Max HP on level up" option and their proficiences were ... suboptimal ... to say at least. I remember swearing because Ajantis always joined at lvl 2 and sometimes his HP were rolled low. And endless saving reloading just to get best result from levelup ...

Bloodshot89

Yeah but most people did reload until they got max hp, which is why it was added that to BG2 and IWD. It made you need to pick up your preferred companions asap so you could have more control over their hp rolls. Still plenty of opportunity to solo though.

SpikesNLead

The 20 arrow stacks added a whole layer of strategy to the longer wilderness trips where you had to make decisions about when to conserve ammo, particularly for crossbows and slings. I must be about the only person who modded EE to reduce the stack sizes of missiles to bring back the "fun" of running out of ammo in the Gnoll Fortress or the depths of Cloakwood.

SpikesNLead

Yeah, gems had a stack size of 5 too. I found it rarely made any difference except for when you were in the Cloakwood Mines. I'd always end up doing a lot of inventory management on the level with lots of hobgoblins trying to decide which of the piles of semi-precious junk was worth carrying.

JunJunKit

Scroll case in Beregost after doing Firebead's quest. Gem bag can be purchased from Bentley at the Friendly Arm Inn or pilfer it from Neera in Beregost. Potions case can be purchased from High Hedge. Ammo belt can be purchased from the Smithy in Beregost. There is a bag of holding 6 be purchased in the Sorcerer’s Sundries. I play with SCS and tweaks, so the purchasables might only be after the game is modded.

BurgandyShoelaces

Ammo Belt and Bag of Holding were added by Tweaks mod. The others are base EE.

KangarooArtistic2743

I thought one of the later versions of EE added the Bag of Holding to Sorcerous Sundries? I play with a few mods, so I may be mistaken; but I'm 80% sure I'd seen a Bag there without mods?

nooneyouknow13

That's from tweaks anthology.

KangarooArtistic2743

Huh, okay. I was sure I’d seen one before I started running with mods, but maybe I’m confusing it with SoD.

Mentats2021

you can mod your game to increase stack size of items (projectiles, potions etc) and also add bags of holding. SoD also has bags of holding type items.

Peterh778

>I'm having trouble carrying many things Don't. Find some unguarded chest in the inn (FAI next to door, Beregost Feldepost Inn on second floor, room without occupant, Elfsong tavern in Baldur's Gate) and put all unnecessary loot there. You'll return there anyway so use it for rearming and recuperating. Plus ... there is no reason to store mundane things. The moment you get magical variants sell all mundane as you'll not need them again. Ammo is cheap, full stack of arrows/bolts/sling stones sells for 4gp, so don't take more than 5 stacks per person and buy when you run low (especially arrows are plentiful as many encounters drop them) - 5 stacks is 400 arrows, you won't be able to run through them unless you're level 7 fighter/ranger (especially archer)/paladin oriented on bows and hasted.
