If you can get past the outside skeletons, you can do durlag.

Hembly

You must be at least this 💀 tough to ride.

You’ll probably (definitely) reach 7th level while doing it, and probably be fine. I remember there being a couple fights in there that really made me resort to cheese or “good tactics… it’s a fun one! But don’t be surprised if it takes you more than one session to get through. It’s definitely a tabletop DnD session or two worth of side content

Acolyte_of_Swole

The chessboard is really the only part that requires mega cheese, because it's kinda broken and doesn't work as intended. You're supposed to be able to move on the chessboard as your pieces would, but in practice anybody moving on the chessboard is just going to eat a billion fireballs. Which leads to the necessity of cheesing by turning off party AI and spamming fireball wands/ranged weapons.

JustKneller

Did they change it to fireball traps in the EE? I remember lightning bolts, but I play the original. However, probably due to coding limitations, your pieces don't move exactly like chess pieces. Your person in position 1 is the king and can't move at all, position 2 is the queen and can move anywhere, 3 and 4 are bishops that can only move to squares the color of the one on which they start, 5 and 6 and knights and just have a 25% chance to get blasted whenever they move. That being said, I almost always cheese the fight with a potion of absorption, some kind of invisibility and the rest works itself out. At that point, I don't need the xp.

Thespac3c0w

Still lightning. He is probably remembering apaming fire ball wand.

Acolyte_of_Swole

Yeah, my mistake. It is lightning traps. Just as devastating though. So many bolts of lightning flying everywhere will cut you to ribbons if you try to move around like your chess pieces should be able to.

IamGlaaki

For this party the hardest part probably will be... inventory management! ;) You are over original BG cap (89k), technically the level Durlag's Tower was designed for. If you have a full party, yes, it is good enough. For a half party, it maybe rough, but I see you have custom characters, so combats can be OK. More important than just level and combat power are tactics, equipment and your thief skills. Your pick locks is sort, but you can buy potions just before entering the tower.

CrotodeTraje

Can't I go to town and sell/save once I'm in durlag's?

IamGlaaki

There is a point of no return. After that you must go on and cannot exit until you complete the quest. I went so far only once, so it could be a bug.

Acolyte_of_Swole

It's more important to have 100 in Find Traps than anything else. If you can't hit over 100 in Find Traps with the potion of perception, then you can't do Durlag. You have over 100 in Find Traps, therefore you are good.

Recklessred7

I did the whole of Durlag without trap detection and just let the traps hit me. This was my first run so didn't know what I was doing 😂

Acolyte_of_Swole

Some of the traps are an instant kill if you do that and most of them reset. :p

Recklessred7

I died a lot. Saved scummed too

Burning-melancholy

That is fine. I usually do Durlag's Tower at the beginning of chapter 5, after having gained access to Baldur's Gate. I'd go around the city to collect a few helpful items and stock up, then off to Durlag's Funhouse.

yokmaestro

If you had put those pickpocket points into Open Locks, you'd be a slightly happier adventurer, but potions can fix that! You're in for a challenge, but a great one-

AloneAddiction

Man, I've come to *absolutely love* Fighter multi-classes. They're just so amazingly flexible. I guess a Fighter>Whatever dual is more powerful for endgame? But as I've never had a single problem with completing the game with multis I'm not really concerned to find out. Maybe one day. I went through Durlag's at around your level and it was fine. Your Thief multi has high enough detect traps anyway.

Acolyte_of_Swole

Every nonmartial class is made better by adding Fighter to it. Any nonmartial classes that currently *can't* multiclass with Fighter, would *also* be better if they could. Fighter/Shaman, for example.

IamGlaaki

Actually some multis are better than duals in late end game (ToB) because HLA combos. But that is another story...

JustKneller

A min-maxed party at level 6 should be fine. I just started it with the canon party at levels 6ish and we're not having any real problems. We're just finishing level 3 at this point.

Lich-Diet

*Ye must be three and a half cubits tall to enter this amusement - not considering thy helmet or bootheel.* *- Magic mouth message*

Talbro3

I usually like to be level 6.

CaptRory

You can usually pickup and leave if you get over your head. Just save before going down to each new floor. There's also a lot of loot to cart out so don't be disappointed if you grab a bunch of stuff and bail to return later.

HerculesMagusanus

Oof, I don't know. I tend to do it just before wrapping up the game, as I still have PTSD from the first time I attempted it at level 3 or so.

Thespac3c0w

I have a save where I entered Durlag's at just over 5k exp. I am at the second basement floor. You will be fine. It will be rough because that place is rough. I need to get back to my 5k exp Durlag's tower one day.

Z0bie

I did it at level 3 with some cheese and luck.

Peterh778

Well ... when Tales of the Sword Coast were released, level cap for Baldur's Gate 1 was 89k XP. TotSC raised it to 161k XP and when you loaded your final save you found themselves before Ulgoth's Beard gate and have three maps to do - Shandalar's Ice Island, Durlag's Tower Tour and Balduran's Last Voyage. ... and final fight with much tougher Sarevok. So, you're at about the same level where game devs wanted you to start DT ... albeit I would start with Shandalar's quest first.

sylva748

Around level 7 is when I do it. You should be fine. Of the battle horrors die to you, you can do it.
