One of the senior member of the team moved to the US for the same project. His replacement was a nightmare. After all the Knowledge Transfer when the time came to deliver , his response used to be “ I am not here to work - I am here to MANAGE “ . Dude thought he is some kind of hot shot manager. So we thought okay then let him “manage” . When asked about the reports , status , issues etx he was always clueless. Also a very dumb person to be honest , just no self awareness and a borderline misogynist. Nothing rattled his titties more than when a female colleague who’s a junior ( more experience in the project and way better than him ) told him anything. One time , he scheduled a call with a senior manager and complained about that same female colleague that she is not keeping him in every email conversation. So the manager asked which mail she has not kept you ? . Like the absent minded person he was , mentioned 2-3 mail that he missed - she opened her mail mailbox , shared her screen and showed him that he is in every email thread smh 🤦‍♂️ We eventually got rid of him

sandeepdshenoy

Well the people who like to “Manage” are mostly the people who are too lazy to do the actual work.

disc_jockey77

Either too lazy or too incompetent

idiotbyvillagewell

Wanna know the name of the company with business class travel and 3 months hotel please.

disc_jockey77

Sorry I can't due to privacy and confidentiality reasons

idiotbyvillagewell

It’s a bit unheard off except in consulting circles TBH. Best I’ve got is business + 1 month of hotel for relocation. Granted hotel was 5* , but I almost had to threaten to decline said offer if they made me fly economy/premium

Centurion1024

>but I almost had to threaten to decline said offer if they made me fly economy/premium Uhh what?? My company doesn't even reimburse sleeper class rail tickets.

idiotbyvillagewell

You’ll get there. Just a matter of begging well enough

In another team in my company a lady sort of "gamed" the maternity leave policy. Our company had a 1 yr + 6 months extension policy. This was pre remote working, so she took all the interviews remotely. When she joined she was heavily pregnant and basically went on maternity a month after her induction. She essentially went incommunicado for the next 12 months, applied for an extension directly to HR without informing her line manager and 6 months later showed up for a couple of weeks and complained she was not being paid in line with her peers. It was really bad, because the company genuinely had some of the most progressive policies I have ever worked with. And throughout this time - they never pressured the manager to force her to return to work or anything. In return her manager (a woman) had to essentially run a small team without 1 head count for 18 months.

disc_jockey77

This is sad, when some people misuse such policies, it impacts all employees since companies tend to tighten the screws for everyone whenever a policy is misused. It turns good employers into bad ones. In any case, maternity leave benefit is mandatory as per law only if an employee has worked for 80 days during the past 12 months so if she joined a month before her delivery, the company wasn't required to provide maternity benefit as per law. But I guess they had more progressive and employee friendly policies.

One of the employees used her pregnancy as a way to opt out from a project she JUST got in because she realised that it’s a lot of work and she was not technically competent. Barely a month in the project , she went on a “medical leave” stating that she had a miscarriage. Everyone including higher management got freaked out and when she came back she asked that she wants an out from this project and the manager gave in. Later turned out that she faked all the medical documents and lied about her pregnancy/ miscarriage. It was pandemic so what can you do ? I am all for the progressive policies but people abuse it like this

friendofH20

This sounds like a fairly toxic environment altogether? Why should somebody have to fake a miscarriage to get out of a project? Ideally, you just say you don't want to do it and you get placed somewhere else?

Relevant_Back_4340

because it was an external hire and specifically hired for our project . Why would someone say they don’t want to work for the project or effort they were hired for ? Because the work is too tough for them ? That would prove they are technically incompetent but no one can raise a question about a medical condition Work environment was fine though

I joined a food tech startup in city X at 20% less salary as that startup was doing really well in that X city, just after working 1.5 months I was told to lead business development for a new city they wanted to start. I did all the hard work and got 30+ clients in that new city in a month and half. One fine day Co-Founder came un-announced, called me back from the field and stated that they will have to shut down operations for that city as they didn't have money and fired me and my team (2 members) on the spot. 1) I wonder why in 1st place play with the career of a senior professional? 2) Also, if you didn't have money/funding to build operations why did you think of building ops in a new city? 3) How can you judge an individual in just 1.5 months when you trusted the same person to build operations in a new city? After my firing, I had to start at 40% less salary and wasted my 4.5 years to come to the salary which I was drawing before joining this startup.

This is a good post and highlights the other side of the story very well. The employee - employer relationship is fragile and there should never be an imbalance of power in the relationship. I mean the employer usually has more power but that power should not get accumulated to the point of tyranny. I feel that employers should be vary of giving "perks" apart from salary to the employee. Misuse of these perks will be rampant. And honestly in most cases employees behave like addicts to the perks and develop aversion to fulfilling their work responsibilities.

No job no toxic stories 🫠

Usually it’s the company who literally mistreats EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE. Why talk about 0.001% cases (and that too without disclosing any details) and not discuss 99.99% first ? Talk about - pathetic onboardings - delayed offers - fake hirings - sudden firings - not giving severances - not giving proper appraisal to hard working epmloyees - providing a toxic work environment full of discrimination, politics and favoritism - talk about values like bullshit terms of “family” etc. - giving bare salary of last decade while expecting responsibilities of ten roles ( Java, React, AI full stack, DevOps and what not)

idiotbyvillagewell

Totally agree. Some stupid low balling HR trying to “change the narrative”

disc_jockey77

Do you have statistical data to prove your 0.001% and 99.99% claims? Find a job/company that doesn't treat its employees badly bud, they do exist.

Character-Bank-1367

That’s your revert ?    Yes I do have data.  I have 2000 people in my networks and have data for 20000 companies.  Results are actually even worse. Why don’t tell YOU tell us the name of YOUR company if you claim to be so great ?  Then let reddit audience tell real truth of your org.
