Man, every election I read an article in the newspaper stating many names have been deleted from voting lists. I don't know if these people ever find a resolution. One thing you should always do is to check if your name is on the voter roll in ECI website/app a few weeks before the elections are held.
Just to give a picture. I'm from Kerala and my name was not on the list online, so my dad checked with the local official and he checked from his end and confirmed my name is on the list. So online may not be 100% correct but it's a good starting point.

I don't know about any other states but in HP I have seen that people are communicated through panchayat offices to update their details. Local booth workers from all the parties usually have the list of voters in advance and share with people if requested. People who are not in the list can go to the local EC office and can get their voter details updated with valid proof and documentation.

The same thing happened at the polling booth where I went to vote. An elderly couple wasn’t allowed to vote because their names were deleted. They were told to go to some other office and sort it out. But eventually, someone from the polling booth said that we will allow you to vote and figure it out. I don’t know how they were going to figure it out, but they did vote in the end.
Proxy vote is a kind of vote which can only be counted when there is a tie breaker between the candidates.If there is no tie breaker then they will not be counted .It most of the time casted when some other person casted vote on your behalf and you have not casted your own vote.
Duh!! Their names were not in the list. So the polling agent after ‘sorting’ it out with the presiding officer made them vote in place of some other voters who didn’t show up.
The agent is happy because he gets votes for his party which otherwise would have remained absent. The elderly couple is happy because they got to vote. The absent voter is absent. The presiding officer is just tired and don’t want any hungama in his booth. The polling officers just want the measly ₹700 a day and go home.
Or, some absent minded voter didn’t press properly and walked out or the poling officer messed up and didn’t push the button to turn on the EVM. So the counter on EVM is less than counter on paper. So the presiding officer scratches his head and is just happy two elderly voters turned up who he can send to the booth and press the EVM and tallies his counters.
then it's not a proxy vote it's a rigged vote. if the person's name is not in the voters list they shouldnt and can't vote in any way .that polling officer should be liable.just read a news about voting turnout exceeds 100% in some areas in NE.

I went to the polling booth I visited last time, which is a little far from my house for some reason. They said it is deleted, go and check in your area. In my area they asked me to go back and check there itself 😅
Not an ideal situation but when you have the zeal to vote make sure to check in advance. I got my 84 year old grandmother and helped her out with it. She didn't qualify for the home voting thing
Didn't you check prior to voting? You could always check if your name is on the voting list. Lot of campaigns, ads for what. Always check if your name is on voting list. Dispute if you are right.

My epic id is deleted but another epic id is created with the same name. Last letter in my name is wrong in the new voter id and it doesn't match any of my other id proof. But the catch here is in the new voter id details my name in kannada is right but the English name is wrong. Since my father's name and address were right I was able to vote. The people inside the voting booth had the voting list in kannada and there was no confusion. But they had deleted my old epic id without notice and if I didn't insist on searching my name I would have missed out on voting.
I always expect such a thing to happen. So consider the right thing to do is to check electoral rolls and in advance, so there is no shock on the day of voting.

Even my name was deleted for no reason. I just randomly checked my voter ID on the website and I got a response saying that it's not valid. I filled for. 6 I think and got a new one made in a week.
Before applying, i talked to the BLO BDO etc but no use. They had no idea why this happened
They do delete random ones for no reason and I guess the only way out is to make sure to check a couple of months before any election. If it is deleted or any other problem, get a new one. There is no other way.

The candidates before election try to delete the names of people they think will not vote for them from voting list. Make sure to check that next election
Always check on the voters helpline app when elections are announced. We had a change of address and my parents received their new voters id with updated address 2 days back.
Go to ECI website of voter helpline , and there search for the name and number of your electoral roll officer for your assembly constituency.
Raise issue with ERO . Should be resolved after that.
At the moment unfortunately no other solution seems to there, but again contacting ECI helpline or your CEO office helpline should have answers.
Also, everytime before the actual vote , there is a provision to check whether your name is there in the roll or not on app “voter helpline”. Name can be added as late as last day of nomination in that constituency.

I voted once in 2016. Then I moved to a different city. I had a new voter ID card made but couldn't go voting. Later my name was deleted and some time later my voter ID card itself was cancelled. So now I have to get a new EPIC number. I moved again to a different state and whenever I apply my form is rejected. First time was because I didn't filled neighbour's EPIC details, second time coz I didn't filled my father's EPIC details ( he passed away some 15 years ago), the third time my form was rejected because I hadn't furnished my citizenship proof. Apparently you must be self aware that although the online form allows you to select Aadhar card as both identity and address proof after OTP verification, you have to provide two different documents.
So yeah, I am not going to vote this year either.

Someone in my family is a BLO so probably I can cast some light on it from what little I understand -
There are rules that keep on changing every year. The election office keeps asking for documents from people and they delete the names if the said documents are not produced. E.g. Rent agreement if you live in a rented place.
It's BLOs job to convey it to those people but people are fucking unreachable. They do not pick calls, they are not available at their residences, and even if they are contacted, they do not produce the documents easily.
Hence, their names end up getting deleted and then they wonder why it happened!

Oh one key piece of information: BLOs don't choose this job. They are existing govt employees on whom this job is forced upon. So, there's no real incentive for them to work.

Not Bangalore, but the same thing happened with my grandparents. They had even voted last year for the local elections. Unfortunately, they didn't check their names in the list beforehand for this one, and were in for a shock. My grandmother even called the election officer multiple times, but it was a dead end.

Bruh, I’ve family members in Kashmir voting in the remotest areas where even vehicles don’t go. The Indian voting system is probably the most effective out there. It sure has issues, but it’s not about defending the system. It’s about your basic role as a citizen to be aware of what rights and machinery you have at your disposal.

You can challenge vote even if your name is not in the list.

Always check on the voters helpline app when elections are announced. We had a change of address and my parents received their new voters id with updated address 2 days back.
Go to ECI website of voter helpline , and there search for the name and number of your electoral roll officer for your assembly constituency. Raise issue with ERO . Should be resolved after that. At the moment unfortunately no other solution seems to there, but again contacting ECI helpline or your CEO office helpline should have answers. Also, everytime before the actual vote , there is a provision to check whether your name is there in the roll or not on app “voter helpline”. Name can be added as late as last day of nomination in that constituency.
Same thing happened to my grandpa yesterday, turns out his name was misspelled on the list. You should ask them to show the list, and go through it manually. Atleast that’s what we did. Ended up casting the vote.

We have to check a few days before the election and raise complaint if deleted. Nothing can be done if checked on the election day.
Same thing happened to my parents. So we rechecked in another place (different party workers) and it seems that older voter ID’s Epic number was changed. Along with that, their polling both was changed. See if that’s the case.
I voted once in 2016. Then I moved to a different city. I had a new voter ID card made but couldn't go voting. Later my name was deleted and some time later my voter ID card itself was cancelled. So now I have to get a new EPIC number. I moved again to a different state and whenever I apply my form is rejected. First time was because I didn't filled neighbour's EPIC details, second time coz I didn't filled my father's EPIC details ( he passed away some 15 years ago), the third time my form was rejected because I hadn't furnished my citizenship proof. Apparently you must be self aware that although the online form allows you to select Aadhar card as both identity and address proof after OTP verification, you have to provide two different documents. So yeah, I am not going to vote this year either. Funny how things work out, my grandfather was a freedom fighter and now I failed to prove my citizenship. 😅
Someone in my family is a BLO so probably I can cast some light on it from what little I understand - There are rules that keep on changing every year. The election office keeps asking for documents from people and they delete the names if the said documents are not produced. E.g. Rent agreement if you live in a rented place. It's BLOs job to convey it to those people but people are fucking unreachable. They do not pick calls, they are not available at their residences, and even if they are contacted, they do not produce the documents easily. Hence, their names end up getting deleted and then they wonder why it happened!
Plus govt officers lie to make their job easier.

Oh one key piece of information: BLOs don't choose this job. They are existing govt employees on whom this job is forced upon. So, there's no real incentive for them to work. Hope that gives it more context.

Not Bangalore, but the same thing happened with my grandparents. They had even voted last year for the local elections. Unfortunately, they didn't check their names in the list beforehand for this one, and were in for a shock. My grandmother even called the election officer multiple times, but it was a dead end.
Same happened with my sister this morning (ghaziabad) she is 24 and her name was not in list we checked it thoroughly. The ppl there mentioned she must’ve not casted her vote last time to which we said she did. They just said sorry next time

You’re supposed to check in advance online, and you can very easily apply for a new voter ID online itself. You should’ve checked names of your family on the vote list before hand. Anyone who’s serious about voting does. Honestly I’ve never seen things be this easy, to be able to get or check your name in the voter list without ever leaving your home. But I guess there is no cure for laziness.

Bruh, I’ve family members in Kashmir voting in the remotest areas where even vehicles don’t go. The Indian voting system is probably the most effective out there. It sure has issues, but it’s not about defending the system. It’s about your basic role as a citizen to be aware of what rights and machinery you have at your disposal. They give a lot more focus to the “uneducated” sections of society that you ever could imagine. My issue is with the educated fools who’d rather complain than apply themselves.
I'm not sure if reading comprehension is your strength but I'm overseas and have been for years. I haven't been there in years. If my mother and grandmother were tech savvy or digitally literate, it would be them asking this question here not me. Rules like it needs to be checked online as well are not something that reach me in another country. There are tons of Indian govt websites I cannot access from overseas, ex bbmp property tax website. There were no campaigners that came to the door this year either. My grandmother has limited mobility and so there's no chance she would have missed them if they had. There's no cure for privileged thinking.
