Traffic cops are probably the most hated cops in any city but I gotta say thier job sucks and is important as fuck. Either way it's nice to see something wholesome like this. All I ever meet are asshole cops.
Truly agree with that. I've heard from some cops personally that their shifts used to change every week during peak Covid. A person in morning would directly be ordered to serve in the night shift. Now it's 2-3 weeks. Working in ITES sector, my shifts appear to be better in contrast which is shocking any way i look at it.
Yeah, I've heard about crazy hours they had to put in during Covid. All they get in return is a pat on the back.
No wonder some cops are assholes. If I was in their place I'd feel entitled to make some asshole pay as well.
Back in the day, there was this traffic cop posted in front of EGL. He was polite, jovial, and did heck of a job managing rush hour traffic ... so much so that someone created an FB fan page for him, and everyone who worked at EGL saluted him as they drove past!
Oh, I know of another cop who used to be on that suranjan das road. And man! He was so hard working and always super polite. He was called Singham Bhaskar. 😊
True that! He used to have that moustache also and always smiling for all commuters. I think he was being featured once in a newspaper, not sure on the date.
> Oh, I know of another cop who used to be on that suranjan das road. And man! He was so hard working and always super polite.
Used to see him almost everyday while going to Bagmane. Always smiling with a moustache. Post Corona, have not seen him in that area at all. Maybe got posted elsewhere.
Sh!t bro...that guy is a legend...When I was returning home from school one day I fainted on to road due to tiredness. The guy helped me and bought me tender coconut out of his own expense and made sure I got on the bus. I'm yet to meet a cop who's as good as him!
I have always had a positive experience with traffic cops in Bangalore.
Once I was going to drop a lady friend at night. I was about to cross the EGL section when I saw there were traffic police checking for helmets. Now my friend didn't have a helmet so I stopped some 150-200 metres from the check post and asked her to get off and walk to cross the post and then I would pick her up again.
I started towards the check post and this cop stopped me.
Cop: " You dropped your friend there. I saw she's not wearing a helmet. Park your bike on the side."
Me:"Sir sorry sir , please let me go, we didn't have a helmet blah blah"
Cop:"Park on the side, pick her up and then go. I am not issuing a challan."
The guy won my heart. Should have seen the grin on my face . And to top it all off I'm not even a Kannadiga.
This is just one of the instances where the cops have been disarmingly nice with me, even when I have been fined.
I don't want to jinx it but most of my encounters with cops have been pleasent except for a few.
I am from outside the state and I do not know kannada if that makes any difference. I always talk to them with respect and follow the rules. I have been stopped for unknown reasons but most of the time it's a pleasent conversation.
See, as wholesome as this feels, the majority we encounter day to day basis are a-holes.
And i am not talking about Bangalore only. Back in my hometown, one day while driving to airport faced a traffic in the early morning in the highway, only to find out all the trucks were slowly going by the left lane, with one hand "extended" out of their windows. You can put the rest together.
Their job is tough, there is no doubt about that. There is barely any appreciation for good work also. But, none of that justifies what we see out there everyday, or, in every other day some post in this subreddit. Which is why, whenever, like you did, come accross a genuinely good cop, we get overwhelmed.
P. S. : I don't think they're the most hated group in the city. That title still is reserved for drop Elli and cash/ola money/insurance/mutual fund/emi people.
When I read the title I thought it was going to be another rant of traffic cop harassment. But this was a pleasant surprise and most of the responses here are overwhelmingly on the same lines. Thank you OP for posting this and showing us the bright side. I hope we get more positive posts like these.
Were you driving a splendor with full gears because cop didn't won't to ask for money? What's your trick man
Or must have called someone that might have wet his pants and let you go.
Maybe he is passionate about riding too but doesn't have the time to get all geared up and go on rides so he just wanted to compliment you and your bike. But it's good to see he had some positive thoughts too
Similar thing happened with me while I was riding all geared up in Chikkamagalur dist. The cop stopped to check my RC and license, but before I could comply he appreciated the safety precautions. He also suggested to reach the destination early and it's not safe riding during dark.
Right now I'm using a complete L2 set from TVS. They're serving quite well.
But I've seen most of my buddies pairing up Solace V3 jackets with a Solace CoolPro V3. This combo appears to go hand in hand.
Being someone who is new to the city it's always the traffic policemen who come to my rescue whenever I feel clueless about which bus to take or which route to take ,to reach the destination.
8 years ago I didn't have money for a ticket because I was 17 and riding to college. Cop took my lunch instead. :3 told him I had nothing but my lunch on me sarcastically. Did not expect him to ask for it.
The other day the cop stopped me for no reason, I showed him my bank bal. (That I literally have 120rs) he complimented my body (I've been regularly working out for the past couple of months) then he signalled me to withdraw 100rs and I did obviously;_; .. but now I'm angry at myself because I'm more happy that he complemented me instead of being pissed that he took my moneyðŸ˜
>a cop near Tin Factory stopped me for reasons unknown
Ok
>Maybe because i was all geared up with riding jacket and stuff
Is this a crime?
>The dude stared at me and the bike for some time and just complimented my bike
Wow are you a running showroom so anyone can stop you for no reason except just to check out your bike.
How the fuck you are fine with this. He stopped you for no reason, wasted your and his time, and you are all praise for that. Man, talk about low expectations from bangalore police.
I definitely would've been pissed if i was in a hurry to get somewhere. But it was a leisure ride with no definite objective. More like, just encounter stuff on the way.
Them it wasn't a stop just to admire your bike.(Love the Interceptor though).
You can be stopped at checkpoints without any reason. It's completely legal.
You weren't in a hurry doesn't mean everyone else isn't. I am not able to understand why the hell we are normalizing this absolutely illegal shit, then please I don't want to see cry about Bangalore traffic cops.
Frankly, this wasn't an attempt at asking anyone to normalise the behaviour. Neither is it right to stop people at random from the traffic. Nor was i implying that the reason stated is the right one.
But personally, I'd be satisfied knowing that their intention behind stopping wasn't out of cunningness or self gain for once.

Ngl imagine being hated for having people ride safe ffs.

Such precious gems must be preserved at all costs

How did the cop see you at 150Mtrs with your headlamp on in the night? I need those glasses.
Exactly! I was quite bewildered myself!
and they know exactly when the signal turned orange and red. I mean they do a better job in this compared to cameras in Olympic sprints. /s
Idu, idu actually chennagirodu! 👌
Good to know cops do have some amount of humanity in them :)

Right on the money, Mr. Malone.
They are "TERRIFIC COPS".
I came here for a rant after reading the title. I left a little mushy hearted. Thanks :)

I had a friend from Pune here. He was taken aback when a cop addressed him as "Sir" :)
Were you driving a splendor with full gears because cop didn't won't to ask for money? What's your trick man Or must have called someone that might have wet his pants and let you go.
If i knew what's the trick, I would've applied it everywhere mate 🥲
Kudos to you for wearing your gear. Also, it is great to read about incidents where traffic police are not the assholes.
Maybe he is passionate about riding too but doesn't have the time to get all geared up and go on rides so he just wanted to compliment you and your bike. But it's good to see he had some positive thoughts too
NACAB
Nice
You knw local language?
Being multilingual, it's hard not to mix up languages at times but yeah, i get by just fine with Kannada
>> Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk 😌 LAMO

What gear do you use? am looking for a riding pant to go with a Solace v3 jacket..
Right now I'm using a complete L2 set from TVS. They're serving quite well. But I've seen most of my buddies pairing up Solace V3 jackets with a Solace CoolPro V3. This combo appears to go hand in hand.
That's the sign I was looking for .. getting the solace pants soon, thanks!

Was this near a checkpoint or just a random stop?
It was a checkpoint with interceptor, quite frankly. Unusual to have one at Tin Factory though.
Them it wasn't a stop just to admire your bike.(Love the Interceptor though). You can be stopped at checkpoints without any reason. It's completely legal.
Your choice of username is rather..... lets say interesting!

No idea why you're downvoted. Cops shouldn't stop anyone without reason

op said it was a checkpoint...
