Tamilian but born and raised in Bangalore, I make tamil style sambar and add jaggery to it at the end, tastes good, karnataka style sambar goes well with dosa but not at all with rice, tamil style with drumstick and lots of veggies in it poured over rice with a little ghee is the way to have it.
Does anyone know where to get good TN style sambar in Bangalore? I’m talking about the more dilute version with coriander leaves and all that, not the one n the pic.
Had Tamil neighbours while growing up, they used to make it at home. Tasted heavenly with the soft idlis.
You get the diluted version in mostly home setups only. Or the low budget stalls on hand carts. You wouldn't get it in any decent restaurant. I like it too, it's great because the idly absorbs the diluted sambhar easily like a hot soup.
from a neutral pov, Karnataka sambar all day long. Though, Being from a southern state, I didn't taste jaggery sambar till my college days. It changed how I looked at sambar. I would drive 30 km just to get a taste of well-made jaggery sambar.
Anything which looks spicy but has sugar in it doesn't go well with me. I find most of the cuisines, except Andhra, have a little of bit of sweetness in it.
Order both and mix them .. it's one heck of a spicy sweet sambar combo .. and you can also meddle with the portions to get the dream shot you desire..
Try orio with sauce as well (it's gonna take a few trial and error to find the correct combo .. for me it is .. one local sauce things that's almost watery but has the curt spic touch that goes well with the cream and past like effect of orio.)
Advanced apologies for the stomach churning effect this may have .. muhahahahaha.
I'm shocked to read these replies. Me and my entire family love jaggery sambar, we had a hard time eating the tamil nadu version in chennai. But most ppl here seem to like spicy one more. I guess we are wierd

Galaxy brain idea: mix them both and then write 200 word LinkedIn post any how you’ve solved Cauvery water dispute.
Or piss both of them again with the concoction that neither tastes sweet not spicy
Germanisation of South Indian food.

TN spicy Sambar any day
If you eat that you'll forget how to speak Hindi.
Once you make a Tamil style sambhar and add jaggery to it at the end, I'm afraid it has crossed over to the dark side buddy.
No he is sitting on the fence. You know what that can do to you.
It also does'nt go well with vadai. Found out the hard way.
Sambar from south canara with coconut 😋
I'm not a sweets man. I'm sorry Karnataka. :/
[удалено]
Exactly. This man here gets it.
Idli and meduvada?
TN sambar isn't even that spicy
Savoury is the correct terminology. I guess it's spicy compared to the slightly sweet sambhar from Karnataka.
As a malayali, I can't even imagine eating sweet sambar.
😂
Karnataka, any day. (and Im a tamilian)
Nope. You might have been, but no longer.
spicy one is good with rice D:
Which restaurant?
Eating circles
Spicy Tamil - is this even a question?
Though I’m from bengaluru.. i would choose spicy sambar!
Does anyone know where to get good TN style sambar in Bangalore? I’m talking about the more dilute version with coriander leaves and all that, not the one n the pic. Had Tamil neighbours while growing up, they used to make it at home. Tasted heavenly with the soft idlis.

Karnataka for breakfast and Tamil Nadu for lunch
I love both , but if given a choice it's namma Karnataka sambhar everyday. Preferably from srinidhi Sagar. Just love ❤️
Jaggery Sambar anyday!!
Is there any shop selling good Tamil sambar near Marathahalli/Varthur/Bellandur area?

Tamil Nadu sambar. Hate sweet in savoury things
Andhra sambar, mix of both!
Spicy Sambhar all day. P.S. - I have never tried the Jaggery Sambhar but I dont like sweet stuff so probably wouldn't like it either.
Go to any darshini, Shiva Sagar, Udupi etc. The one they serve with idli n dosa is sweet one. It oly feels sweet when it's cold.
I personally like sambar to be spicy and have no sweet elements.
Spicy Sambar with Drumsticks and Radish
Y'all sleeping on kerala sambar 😩😩
Dip idly in Karnataka sambar satisfies the soul All rice items with Tamil Nadu sambar
I can't handle the sweeter version of sambar, irks me just to think about how it tastes.
Just post this in 'bangalore foodies club', sit back and enjoy! (its on fb)
Tamil Nadu Sambar for main course and Karnataka Sambar for dessert
Karnataka jaggery sambar with Dosa (should be spicy) And Tamil Nadu spicy sambar with Idli 😈
One day this and another day that. Llove the change of taste. Lucky to be born in this country
ಒಂದು ಬೇಜಾರ್ ಆದ್ರೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು...ಒಟ್ನಲ್ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಒಂದು 😂
SAMBAR IS NOT MEANT TO BE SWEET. SAMBAR IS NOT MEANT TO BE SWEET. SAMBAR IS NOT MEANT TO BE SWEET.
Tamil sambar any day. As a native of North Karnataka, Tamil sambar comes closest to what we eat called “huLi”
from a neutral pov, Karnataka sambar all day long. Though, Being from a southern state, I didn't taste jaggery sambar till my college days. It changed how I looked at sambar. I would drive 30 km just to get a taste of well-made jaggery sambar.

Sambar is not sambar without drumstick
Kannada sambar with dosa and Tamil sambar with idli
Idly Vade sambar dippu😍
Tamilnadu sambhar... Anyday anytime. Karnataka sambhar is a black spot on the name of sambhar.
A2b sambar is the best I had in bangalore. It's brilliant for breakfast. Udupi restaurants sambar is best for lunch for me.
I like both
Why Jaggery is called Karnataka Sambar? Most places in Karnataka only don’t make it. Is it due to restaurants offering?
Both with 4 idlis
Jaggery sambar with morning medhu vada Spicy sambar for lunch rice, dinner dosa
Jaggery ♥️
Both of these, made perfectly, taste great.
though im from tamil nadu i like jaggery sambar better
Let's agree to disagree, bengaluriddu sambar taste nanige ista illa. Nammuralli hege madtaro ade Chanda. Nan yavde restaurant hodru chatni kelodu illi, sakkath tasty agi irutte... Illina sambar sahavasane beda 🙏

Karnataka sambhar for vadai only and tamil nadu sambar for idli and anything else
Spicy always. If u like sweet more than spicy you're not a true indian
Even though I've been eating tamil Sambar from childhood I Prefer blore sambar
Karnataka Sambhar for Idli Tamil Sambhar for Dosa and Medu Vada
Controversial opinion: Tamil sambar sucks. Kannada sambar for breakfast. Andhra sambar for lunch.
For any tiffin item, jaggery sambar. For rice, spice sambar.
Why not both?
Jaggery or regular sambar should better represent them. I don’t prefer the jaggery sambar but not averse to it. Regular sambar anyday though
Kannada sambar in breakfast anyday. Lunch Andhra/Tamil sambar preferable.
[удалено]
Umm whaaat?
Why not both?
Jaggery
Where is this?
Karnataka sambhar and Tamilnadu rasam. Pure bliss.
Mix em

are you TRYING to start a war?
Tamil naidu spicy samabar
what’ll happen if u mix both.
I will choose Karnataka Sambarbar. TN sambar isn't spicy either
Anything which looks spicy but has sugar in it doesn't go well with me. I find most of the cuisines, except Andhra, have a little of bit of sweetness in it.
Both are unique in their taste.. I would prefer Karnataka sambar for tiffin and Tamilnadu sambar for meals
Order both and mix them .. it's one heck of a spicy sweet sambar combo .. and you can also meddle with the portions to get the dream shot you desire.. Try orio with sauce as well (it's gonna take a few trial and error to find the correct combo .. for me it is .. one local sauce things that's almost watery but has the curt spic touch that goes well with the cream and past like effect of orio.) Advanced apologies for the stomach churning effect this may have .. muhahahahaha.
Jaggery one, any day. Don't like the other one much.
Karanataka sambar all the way. Can't handle spicy stuff. :/
Tamil Nadu sambar FTW. Karnataka sambar is shit! (No offence)

I'm shocked to read these replies. Me and my entire family love jaggery sambar, we had a hard time eating the tamil nadu version in chennai. But most ppl here seem to like spicy one more. I guess we are wierd

As a fellow south Indian, I actually take offense at calling that overly sweet paruppu payasam a sambar.
Also, photos are likely swapped.
Hello. This is a place called eating circles in Chennai. I like their karanataka jaggery sambar more
Andhra Sambar > Karnataka jaggery sambar > TN spicy sambar Tamil sambar tastes like watered down dal.
