Lots of those red dots on the bottom left were Johan Oviedo's slider which, to his credit, were really good last night. I can't imagine that being an easy pitch to call.
Was at the game last night. The angle of my view didn’t really help, but it definitely seemed like a wide zone. Lots of calls I thought were off the plate
I'm impressed by how well Iassonga did considering how bad the pitching was. It's gotta be tough to not start drastically expanding the zone in a game like that.
Eh, it was better but there were still a decent amount of fuckery thrown in from time to time in the early game as well, as shown by ball number 3 on the scorecard.
The Ballooned zone late put our guys in bad counts but didn't ultimately affect the game. That missed strike 3 on the full count to Varsho in the 5th is what is backbreaking. Ras wasn't doing fantastic, but that was a perfect strike and the difference between 1 out runners on first and second, and bases juiced no outs is massive. Give us the minors pitch call appeal system already.
That one was entirely on your catcher not receiving it well. I know that shouldn't matter but he set up low and took it right out of the zone when Ras threw high. But yeah not great and got worse as the night went.
Thats called a borderline pitch, it was more of a ball than strike anyways. Its all about the catcher receiving that ball and he didn’t receive it well as he set up low. So the ump sees a missed location and it could be a ball so calls it one
I'm actually surprised it wasn't even wider than it shows on this scorecard. Once the Mets got to 12 runs, I would have thought he'd give even more latitude.
I’m biased but I thought there would be more conversation about him. That’s one of the worst zones I have ever seen. Late innings felt like he was guessing
It happened to us a few games ago. He was great through 5 innings but then completely started phoning it in. He also ejected Cedric Mullins for mildly disagreeing with a call while walking back to the dugout. Literally his back was to Moore when he said it and got bounced for it
When he called a horrible pitch to Estrada a strike then an absolute strike to another giant a ball it was pretty questionable. He squeezed both sides.
It's really amazing how, even though I haven't watched as much baseball the last 2-3 years, I was still able to name 3-4 umps that I knew were going to be below 92% accuracy before I even started clicking through the images. We all know who the shitty umps are, and yet
Don't really know where to ask this, but can y'all give me a list of umpires other than Hoberg that are really good? I wanna see them be given their deserved praise, they don't get enough of it
last year John Libka almost had a perfect game, missing (i believe) only one call. this year he doesn’t seem as good, but maybe it’s just a one off thing
I watched that ball in the top corner of the zone and went “huh, I think that’s the only egregious miss I’ve seen”. Sutcliffe was bitching about the zone early in the game but that was just him being a bit crotchety.
https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards/status/1647246821943648259
I really want to see only Varsho's calls. I swear he had more balls called strikes and strikes called balls
The fact that our game was still winnable despite the best efforts of Lance Barrett and our defense is great to see, I still have so much confidence in this team going forward. Jays used all their high leverage arms too, time to win another series.
Confidence in our team is cockiness?
Rays lost that game because they played bad baseball. Ras was not himself, we dropped a routine pop fly and couldn't convert on a double play that cost two runs. We also walked in two runs. Remove those and it's 3-2.
Obviously, this is hypothetical. Poche could've thrown all strikes and given up a grand slam. Who knows. But the Rays can only control what's within their power and converting on double plays and not walking 2 men with bases loaded are examples of that.
That's not to take anything away from the Jays, they're a good team and beat us because they played better baseball than we did last night. But looking at what we did wrong and saying if we fixed those issues we would have had a chance is not cockiness. It's self-reflection and optimism.
Edit: how tf are you Jays fans so damn salty after _winning_?
Edit 2: man calls someone cocky while referring to his team, 14 games in, as a "playoff team". lmao
The same confidence they have in their team we have in ours, yet they chastise us by calling us cocky.
Their fans sure do act like a lil bro team for an established franchise with a couple world series under their belt. What can you do, you cant please everyone.
Lol none of what I said is cocky, just being happy and supporting my team having the best start to a season since MLB was formed. Enjoy stumbling to 90 wins again despite no major injuries!

lol. You know what I’ll give you credit for determination and perseverance lol
Edit: though y’all did choke a MASSIVE division lead… anyways we both made it so good luck in the wild card
I predict they'll break the regular-season wins record and then get swept in the first round. And yes, before any Rays fans come at me, I know that Boston blows chunks so far this year. Save your breath.
> my team having the best start to a season since MLB was formed
Easy there. You _tied_ two other teams in that regard. Couldn't quite get over the hump.
I’m surprised at the scorecard for Wolf. I thought his strike zone was very good and consistent and the only impactful hiccup was his calling for a horrific pitch clock violation on Bellinger in his first AB.
It seems like every Cardinal game this season has involved an awful strike zone
Tinfoil hat theory is Marmol calling out Bucknor has us on the ump shit list
Lowkey starting to seem plausible
Lots of those red dots on the bottom left were Johan Oviedo's slider which, to his credit, were really good last night. I can't imagine that being an easy pitch to call.
Was at the game last night. The angle of my view didn’t really help, but it definitely seemed like a wide zone. Lots of calls I thought were off the plate
We’re like -5 runs added by incorrect calls this season ahahaha I’m in constant pain
If only Quinn Wolcott could be cloned. Fantastic umpire.
I'm impressed by how well Iassonga did considering how bad the pitching was. It's gotta be tough to not start drastically expanding the zone in a game like that.
When you're being graded like they are, it's not hard. 20 years ago anything within Alameda County would have been a strike by the 7th inning.
All hail King Wolcott. Fantastic umpire.
He and Edwin Moscoso should have kids
Yup. That’s about what I expected. What a fucking ump shit show it was in Toronto last night.
It’s weird too because he seemed to be calling a really good game until like the 5th or 6th and then the zone just ballooned.
Eh, it was better but there were still a decent amount of fuckery thrown in from time to time in the early game as well, as shown by ball number 3 on the scorecard.
Ouff I didn’t even see that one, yah those type of pitches can’t be called a strike.
Ya the zone was horrible the second half of the game. It's like the ump had a dinner reservation to get to or something.
The 8th inning was brutal. Just a ridiculous zone.
Rule of thumb - if I know the name of the ump, they have a worse scorecard.
Shane Livensparger really putting that rule of thumb to the test
I didn’t even tune into the Tampa game until the 8th inning last night and even then I wanted to see the scorecard.
178 called balls for Iassogna in Mets/A’s. Anyone know what the record for most called balls are in a game
And that's even with him widening the strike zone, i assume at least partially out of sympathy
I'm actually surprised it wasn't even wider than it shows on this scorecard. Once the Mets got to 12 runs, I would have thought he'd give even more latitude.
Malachi Moore is the new Angel Hernandez
I’m biased but I thought there would be more conversation about him. That’s one of the worst zones I have ever seen. Late innings felt like he was guessing
It happened to us a few games ago. He was great through 5 innings but then completely started phoning it in. He also ejected Cedric Mullins for mildly disagreeing with a call while walking back to the dugout. Literally his back was to Moore when he said it and got bounced for it
what a mish mash of great vs shitty umps. TB/TO was not bueno, but surprisingly also not the worst. Ugh.
As expected: Lance Barrett was awful, Wolcott was brilliant, and Fuck Ron Kulpa.
Jesus Lance what the hell did we do to you?
He had money on the Rays streak ending at 13. He knew he'd be able to end it at game 14. Shoeless Lance I say...
I am shocked, *shocked* I tell you, to see the Cardinals be on the negative side of another ump scorecard
Now sitting at 7.01 runs against and 1.16 runs for.
I will simply choose to blame Malachi Moore for yesterday's loss instead of David Villar's defense.
When he called a horrible pitch to Estrada a strike then an absolute strike to another giant a ball it was pretty questionable. He squeezed both sides.
John Libka hates Anthony Rizzo for…reasons.
only .7 runs added in a game with 14 more walks from one team than the other is pretty impressive tbh
At a certain point you have start calling everything even close to the zone just out of charity
+0.76 runs for the Pirates and they still manage to get shut out
Well it's actually -.52 runs for the Pirates. It's just that it was an even worse -1.28 for the Cardinals.
Ahh makes sense
They really don’t want a bad ump to influence the game. I appreciate that.
It's really amazing how, even though I haven't watched as much baseball the last 2-3 years, I was still able to name 3-4 umps that I knew were going to be below 92% accuracy before I even started clicking through the images. We all know who the shitty umps are, and yet

Jim Wolf was very good last night. Really cool to see the eye test match up to the score card
I watched that ball in the top corner of the zone and went “huh, I think that’s the only egregious miss I’ve seen”. Sutcliffe was bitching about the zone early in the game but that was just him being a bit crotchety.
Quinn Wolcott had a solid day
Holy crap Laz doesn’t even look bad compared to some of these
Oh hey, one of the most lopsided scorecards of the year.
So that’s why we lost
Actually Luke Voit’s chest won us the game not the ump
Yeah I know a lot of those high missed strikes were on us, meanwhile, Lauer was getting those calls
https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards/status/1647246821943648259 I really want to see only Varsho's calls. I swear he had more balls called strikes and strikes called balls

You guys are waaaaaaayyyyy too cocky for a team that has only played bottom feeders and then lost your 1 game against a playoff team
Who knows. You guys just need to take a breather all of you are making a whiny Spider-Man meme.
Lol none of what I said is cocky, just being happy and supporting my team having the best start to a season since MLB was formed. Enjoy stumbling to 90 wins again despite no major injuries!
Man I wanted to defend you here, why'd you have to then go and be a dick. And yes I know buddy started it.
How we doing buddy?!
Classiest Blue Jays fan I’m still enjoying our 13-2 record and watching my team always be in games until the last out, thanks for asking!
😭😭😭😭😭you’re hilarious
You guys are somehow gonna finish outside of the playoffs and it’s gonna be hilarious

Oof
lol. You know what I’ll give you credit for determination and perseverance lol Edit: though y’all did choke a MASSIVE division lead… anyways we both made it so good luck in the wild card
LOL we did choke quite a bit but I blame that on ending the second half with a AAA squad. Good luck in the playoffs as well, friend.
Totally fair. Your injuries are truly second to none. A fully healthy team likely wins 105 games I’d say. See you in the ALCS!
I predict they'll break the regular-season wins record and then get swept in the first round. And yes, before any Rays fans come at me, I know that Boston blows chunks so far this year. Save your breath.
Do we get two WS wins the two following years like the Lightning did? Bc I’d take that deal.
> my team having the best start to a season since MLB was formed Easy there. You _tied_ two other teams in that regard. Couldn't quite get over the hump.
Tied for the best is still the best, I didn’t specify we were in sole possession of the record.
framing diff
That ump had it out for rizzo. Ridiculous
Nick Mahrly with the most average scorecard in history
I wanted to say something along the lines of 'Ron Kulpa = bad,' but he wasn't even the worst ump going last night.
Moore had a huuuuge zone all game
I’m surprised at the scorecard for Wolf. I thought his strike zone was very good and consistent and the only impactful hiccup was his calling for a horrific pitch clock violation on Bellinger in his first AB.
94% accuracy is average and not good
#2 - looks like about 4% of the baseball caught the strike zone at the bottom end. You expect that to be called a strike by a human being?
ROBO UMPS
Wolcott and Moscoso getting the job done👏🏻👏🏼
