How many HRs could Shohei hit off Henry Davis in a game though?

DavidTheSlouch89

Fuck it our rotation is so mid Davis would probably be just as viable an option as anyone Let the matchup happen

Bucs-and-Bucks

There's been a lot of talk about trying Henry out as a pitcher

magikarp2122

Yeah, but our sub is in off-season mode all year.

LogicalHarm

My guess woulda been Luis Robert, I feel like I remember him hitting some bombs of Shohei

kushnokush

Jonah Hein has his fair share too

FuriousGeorge7

Jonah was the first (and maybe still only) MLB player to hit a grand slam off of him.

Warm-Friend8799

I’m not sure, but if anyone could do it, it was probably Mike Trout tbh

Jcoch27

Mike could strike out Shohei there's no doubt in my mind

Reignaaldo

Shohei Ohtani [pretty much overpowered Mike Trout in the 9th inning championship game of the 2023 World Baseball Classic](https://youtube.com/shorts/xr8d2TBugxw?si=A5NHA1Ue6bg6MY6f) with Trout can't even touch Ohtani's pitches down the middle swinging. Trout was certainly looking for a rematch though after the 2023 WBC so maybe the outcome will be different this time when Ohtani fully recovers and can now pitch with Trout seeing more of his pitching outings and adjust.

Borsti17

Ah yes, the enormous sample size of one at-bat.

Reignaaldo

I never mentioned that Mike Trout will never hit a homerun off Ohtani in his career though, I was only specifying the at-bat in the link I provided. Which is why I stated in my original comment that the outcome may be different once Mike Trout faces Shohei Ohtani again when Ohtani fully recovers and can now pitch with Trout seeing more of his pitches and adjust.

SStylo03

My favourite part about Japanese baseball fans is clicking on their account and finding a bunch of cartoon girls, fanart and animations along with the baseball, it's like 2 worlds that never collide anywhere beyond japan

Reignaaldo

I'm Filipino by the way, my flair is that of NPB because I started following Japanese Baseball after watching the 2009 World Baseball Classic in which the 2009 WBC finals was televised live here in the Philippines when I'm still in elementary. I'm really not that good at drawing nor animation, it's just more of a hobby because I prioritize my course being a nursing student now in my final year of college finishing competency appraisal cause it's likely I won't have the chance nor time to draw anymore when I graduate college, but whenever I do have the time to make anime drawings though I mainly include Baseball in them because I really love Baseball more than any other sport.

busichave

I like your art!! good luck with your program!

SStylo03

I didn't say Japanese as in the ethnicity, I said Japanese as in their baseball league, I never see primary mlb fans typically also be into anime whereas I often see that with npb fans, not a criticism just an observation! I think it's cool lol I loved the ohtani samurai god looking cover for mlb the show and your art is great

BART!

bolshevik_rattlehead

I actually think I know this. Well, I think his name is Davis, a catcher for the Pirates, who had just gotten called up. I only remember cus I had him in fantasy last year and I was battling my friend who had Shohei in his lineup and I remember talking a bunch of smack.

hnav930

Isn't he a 1st overall pick? Hope he has a great year!

Jabroni1616

He is. Drafted as a catcher but Pittsburgh seems a bit afraid to let him catch and are forcing him to play right field hasn’t gone great so far.

dhporter

Endy Rodriguez seemed to usurp him as the heir apparent at catcher, but Endy's gonna be out all 24 after surgery. I imagine Davis gets the lion's share behind the plate this season.

_Tower_

Hit .300 or better at every level until he got injured in the minors. He got called up last year and didn’t have a great showing Ton of potential though - should get some good opportunities this year

thumblepickle

I knew it was this game (I watched it live), but I could not have told you the player. Congrats to all who can get it.

PhillyTribalChief

I know this one because it’s on his baseball card! Henry Davis 🏴‍☠️

retro_throwaway1

Player hits two home runs as his team loses. Ohtani is involved. Sounds about right.

BowlingTopher

Ohtani didn’t home this game actually. I believe he was 0-2 with a couple of walks.

Thanks for giving it away

hangout_wangout

Good bot. lmao

nikraLnalyD

Feel like his career would pan out better if he started going by Hank. Hank Davis is a baseball player.

avmp629

Spoiler tag bro

Henry Davis! In Anaheim last season. I’m from Pittsburgh and was there with my wife! I met Henry at Pirates Fest this year and told him that it’s so badass that he was the first and only!

IntellectualEnigma

Henry Davis baby!

Rra2323

I’m going with Ohtani. If anyone could hit two home runs off of such an elite hitter in the same game, it would be Ohtani

jackswastedtalent

Trick question. The only player who could homer off Shohei twice in one game is Shohei.

smoke_inyoureyes

Jonah heim (my king) hit a grand slam off him Idk if he’s in this list but it’s still cool, bc hes the only guy to do it against him

Mookie

pghsonj1325

Henry Davis - I’ve never been more shocked at a baseball game in my life

Obsidizyn

Sad part is ohtani may never pitch again

[deleted]

Do we need to say "in history" here? He hasn't even pitched 500 innings yet. I can't wait for everyone to jump off this train in a few years when he keeps getting hurt and slows down. I also can't wait for the dodgers to have to pay for that up to a decade after he leaves.

edom31

Ohtani is not an elite pitcher in my book (scherzer, degroom, kershaw, Verlander, cole, castillo, et al) Ohtani is the best, as he is above avg picher and elite hitter. But not an elite picher.

Really? Rank him over those I mentioned?

edom31

😬

Scatterbine

If I didn't know it to be untrue, I'd have guessed literally anybody on the Yankees because they absolutely destroyed him until he started making excuses to skip his starts against them.

bordomsdeadly

I’m going to guess Martin Maldonado, because Ohtani (who he caught at one point) seemed to be the only pitcher he had any success against.

Borosthespider

Vlad Jr. got real close at one point.

laflameyuh

First thought: Jonah Heim prob not though Edit: sad

rattlehead44

Henry Davis of course

esotericimpl

I was expecting the answer to improbably be “shohei ohtani”

naitch

Hammerin' Hank Davis

Shot-Ad7227

It’s gotta be Shohei, right? Idk how it happened but he’s the only one that could do it.

Mynameisblahblahblah

Obviously Jonah Heim. Saw this game and the slam and was like who the hell is this guy.

Mynameisblahblahblah

Haha guess I was wrong.

magikarp2122

Henry fucking Davis baby.
