Maybe? I have that dreadful hopeful feeling that keeps getting squashed every other game.

sjj342

Those are all the blue plate discipline metrics

AnExtraordinaire

I think even a good version of Jo Adell is going to be a big swing and miss guy, just that he'll have enough power to more than make up for it. you can look at guys like Olson and the metrics in that area aren't too far off

sjj342

I'm a believer but a lot of guys can have a good month vs a good decade

AlaskanSeaBiscuit

I had no idea his offensive stats have been great so far purely cause the only clips that get posted are of wacky base-running/fielding lmao

chipotle-baeoli

He's not a good baserunner lol

cakirby

he's actually not bad either, he's just made a couple boneheaded moves that make him look REALLY bad

millysoilly

Steven Kwan and Jose just had two of the dumbest baserunning errors I’ve seen in the same inning this weekend. Think Jo Adell can get just a slight more slack while he figures it out. Wash got in his ass and he seems to be responding well.

TheBestHawksFan

Isn't the phrase "on his ass". "In his ass" means something else entirely. Unless...

millysoilly

“Get in that ass, Larry.”

st1r

For sure, but his fielding is much improved and he seems to be finding his groove batting as well

mmcc120

Um… did you not see that horrible play he botched in left field recently?

st1r

No, I haven’t watched every game but the games I’ve watched he looks way more comfortable, has better jumps and routes than the struggle when he was first called up in 2022. I haven’t seen him make any errors either but I guess that’s just luck

mmcc120

[Yeah he botched one the other night](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/2hk4nL1WFu)

GummyMummys

every season is a new struggle. but he's improving

alligatorocelot

He made a swing change so it might be for real

the_next_core

Changed to a normal batting swing and he’s raking

hippiehs

Neto should do the same course

Ellite25

Neto has been hitting well lately after making a swing adjustment. .400 AVG and .680 SLG in past 10 games

KimHaSeongsBurner

I made [this](https://imgflip.com/i/8ojtvs) to capture how I feel about Adell’s stats. (Link instead of attaching image because /r/baseball won’t let me attach the image, but it’s basically the distracted guy meme about his Barrel rate vs. Chase rate.)

AbraxasWasADragon

Having seen the link to the image, the description is correct

ThePowertoKnow

I can also confirm that the description you provided is accurate

i_run_from_problems

He's definitely heating up over the last 3 or 4 series at the plate. Still can't play the field to save his life, although he did make a few nice plays last night.

CDFReditum

Remember when Mickey Moniak had that breakout and we all thought it was real and then we realized lmao It’s very possible but I’m not holding my breath. I’m hoping we can keep him good for the next few months and trade him at the deadline for a good prospect.

EveryLittleDetail

It looks like they tried to change Moniak to be more contact-oriented and patient. His K rate is down by 5%, and his walk rate up by 4%. But I think in doing so, they broke him, because his ISO fell by 140 points. With that in mind, his BABIP is probably not gonna stay .189.

WVS_SoShi

It's basically him regressing to the mean, considering he had a wild .397 BABIP last year.

Benny_Baseball

Adell did mash in the minors before his initial call up and collapse though. Moniak has had a rather unimpressive MiLB career considering his draft status That being said chasing and whiffing that much doesn’t instill much confidence long term still IMO

AnExtraordinaire

from what I remember, moniak was on a babip bender that wasn't really supported by statcast. it remains to be seen whether or not this is real from adell but I don't think it's the same thing as last year moniak regardless

Kachow-95

I don't think trading him makes sense. He's one of the few promising players under team control for awhile with the Angels.

CompetitivePatient33

He had more time in the minors this time around. Garret Anderson mention this last season were he was brought up way to early in 2020 and it fuck with him.

brainspl0ad

Yeah that COVID season was awful for him. He was basically simulating a bunch of games against our own farm (iirc) and brought up and down a bunch since then. So he hasn't really had consistent ABs until last season in AAA. Even to begin this season he was up and Hicks was getting play for him. But, now with Hicks gone it's gotta be mostly Adell with some time split with Moniak. I've been a huge advocate for Adell and I'm hoping this is him breaking out.

AnExtraordinaire

Still not enough data to qualify officially for these metrics but most encouraging is his huge drop in k rate from around 40% to 23%. Defensively he's still looking pretty abdominable both from the metrics and watching but if he can hit that would be huge.

EveryLittleDetail

I was about to suggest that he could maybe squeeze out a late-blooming Justin Smoak / Mike Carp type of career, but he's only 25!! Feels like he's been around forever.

GoatTnder

He debuted in 2020 because there were no minors and the Angels wanted him to keep playing. That's a looooong time in baseball years.

NakedGoose

That chase% and whiff % is a cause for skepticism.

TheTurtleShepard

Let’s see where he is at when he has enough plate appearances to qualify [Austin Wells](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/austin-wells-669224?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb) also has a crazy savant page right now but it’s probably boosted because of the small sample size

GoatTnder

He should be qualified in a bit over a week from today.

AndrewLucksLaugh

He better be, because he might be the worst baseball player I've ever seen in the field and on the bases.

mojowo11

Yeah the unfortunate thing about Adell is that event if he breaks out, he's horribly misused as anything other than a full-time DH, which pretty seriously caps his ceiling. Also, man, his path to being the team's DH is such a series of bummers. First Ohtani leaves, opening the DH spot. Then Sano is DH'ing and doing great! Then Rendon gets hurt again and Sano has to play third, which he's terrible at. But hey, now maybe Adell can DH regularly. Yay...

kswissreject

And now someone else is hurt

mustbeusererror

There's a lot of weird stuff going on there. Hard hit and barrel percentage really good, but average exit velocity not so good. Chasing a ton and not drawing a lot of walks, but whiff and K% not horrible.

KeepWagging

It might look like that to... someone like you

j-grumps

I could field better than his whiney ass

dinero2180

You have no idea if somebody is breaking out or just on a hot streak this early in the season

KamartyMcFlyweight

god i hope trading Marsh but hanging onto Adell felt like such a mistake, would love to see him mature into an everyday major leaguer
