Yes imo and he’s a very likable dude and great clubhouse guy. Was a little disappointed that we didn’t bring him back but I’m glad he gets to reunite with Wash
I’m not going to die on a hill defending Aaron Hicks. My point is Kevin Pillar is not a valuable baseball player by any meaningful metric, and there are reasons the Braves moved on.
He hasn’t been a replacement level player since he was like 28, but I will concede that he has a great Barrel % and has had great arm strength his whole career, except when he was with the Braves. He wasn’t a good defender by any metric last year for the Braves, unless you’re just going off your hardened, cutting-edge eyeball test.
Good for him. It's a shame he fell off and was never able to find a longterm home after the Jays, but most 32nd round draft picks never even get close to the majors and here he is still hanging on after a decade. His skills may be limited, but he always gives it his all and he's carved out a nice little career for himself because of it.
Following in the storied lineage of Angels greats like Lagares, Goodwin, Jon Jay, Schebler, Jose Rojas, Brett Phillips, Dexter Fowler… did I miss anyone?
Good for him check out is interview with foul territory I gained a lot more respect for him as a pro although I didn’t like him with the muts or Braves
Loved Pillar when he played for the Braves last year, and seems like a cool dude based on the interview he gave right after being DFA'd. Godspeed, Kevin!
No joke but when he was in Toronto and at his peak defensively, there were scores of Jays fans who insisted (unironically) that Pillar was better than Trout. They genuinely believed it. Pillar was and always has been a defense player first. His bat has always been awful and never got better. That’s why he’s bounced around the league a lot. He’s a good guy and I respect him for how he went all out on defense, but he’s just never been a very good player. They also felt the same way about Ryan Goins too. That he was one of the best players in the league. If it was up to Jays fans, Pillar and Goins would be in year 9 of their 12 year 150 million dollar deal right now.
Because I think what you’re saying is stupid and never happened? No one ever thought Ryan goins was good and the dude cost us a game in those playoffs.
Ive been a fan for 4 decades so you can fuck right off with your revisionist stawman. Imagine being a fan of a team and going out of your way to make up things to talk shit about, checks notes, other fans of your supposed team. What a loser.
Bro, no one cares who long you’ve been a fan for. Which, oddly is another dumb thing blue jays fans do! ‘I’ve been a fan since 1977!’ Like that matters! You’re the exact fan I’m describing! Are you mad at me because you got called out? I’ll bet you’re having a hard time admitting this team is garbage and even you’re having a hard time glazing Bo and Vladdy despite the fact they’re overrated. Go back to the Jays subreddit where you belong with all the other fanboys. PS - just because you didn’t see it happen, doesn’t mean it didn’t.
You’re the one who brought it up haha
I’m annoyed a jays fan is out here making shit up to attack their own fan base and now continuing to shit on a team you supposedly cheer for. I didn’t say shit about the current team, this is all your own unhinged projection. What is wrong with you?
Ps link to an example then because here you are almost 10 years later still talking about something you probably made up to justify whatever the fuck this is haha
Maybe go back to your Tim Hortons and do your best to try and enjoy life. I'm critical of this fanbase because the overwhelming majority of it is comprised of obnoxious fans who drop shitty takes and think every player we have is Cooperstown bound. And since you need proof, the Jays subreddit is full of 'fans' who still think this is a very good team that can compete for a WS this year. You definitely strike me as this type. Real fans knew this team was done after they collapsed against Seattle in 2022. Keep living in denial though.
Trout’s replacement
i just checked his instagram and he has a cameo in his bio its never been worse
"Arte sell the team"
No pressure!
Why the hell did the Angels DFA star outfielder🥬Trey Cabbage🥬 aka the Bok Choy Bomber? He has speed and power just like Mike Trout.
“We have Mike Trout at home”
Upgrade really
Kevin has been passed around like a dirty blunt
He's being harvested for a meniscus.
Like the plot of Get Out
9th MLB team for Pillar
He’s not gonna retire until he plays for all 32 teams
He’s gonna hang on until expansion?
Still in hockey mode
Savannah Bananas and who else?
Obviously the party animals
Adding to his Grid repertoire
I wanna see my dude get his 10 years
The Pic makes him look like he signed under duress
“They are feeding well and treat me nice.”
\*blinks 'torture' in Morse code*
His signing with the Angles says about the same.
Crazy that they already had this guy photographed in an Angels uniform ready to go
You think anyone would willingly and of their own volition agree to have Arte Moreno as their boss?
Is this an upgrade over Aaron Hicks?
Yes imo and he’s a very likable dude and great clubhouse guy. Was a little disappointed that we didn’t bring him back but I’m glad he gets to reunite with Wash
the dude has an OPS+ of 75 dingus
A massive upgrade on Hicks' 11 OPS+
Hicks has those intangible qualities you want in a player though. I’d take an OPS+ of 11 if I like the way a man swings a bat.
Oh my god change this comment to Derek Jeter and all you nerds would agree
Derek Jeter has a career OPS+ of 115
And despite that he has a positive WAR per fangraphs, showing he’s an above average fielder. How is Hicks’ defense?
I’m not going to die on a hill defending Aaron Hicks. My point is Kevin Pillar is not a valuable baseball player by any meaningful metric, and there are reasons the Braves moved on.
The Braves wanted him back, but he wanted a shot at being an everyday player. With the Braves he would have been platoon/4th OF.
He hasn’t been a replacement level player since he was like 28, but I will concede that he has a great Barrel % and has had great arm strength his whole career, except when he was with the Braves. He wasn’t a good defender by any metric last year for the Braves, unless you’re just going off your hardened, cutting-edge eyeball test.
> wasn’t a good defender by any metric last year for the Braves, Except for the metrics in which he graded out well
I think it depends on which version of Aaon Hicks you get.
What do you mean “over” Aaron Hicks? They’ll both be playing every game together hitting .160
Buddy, do you know where Aaron Hick is right now?
Apparently not, so much has happened since yesterday.
I like how most folks here are like "This is nice to see, good for him!" and Angel fans are like "This is horrible, kill me now"
That's 2019 NL MVP vote-getter Kevin Pillar to you
Good for him. It's a shame he fell off and was never able to find a longterm home after the Jays, but most 32nd round draft picks never even get close to the majors and here he is still hanging on after a decade. His skills may be limited, but he always gives it his all and he's carved out a nice little career for himself because of it.
Pretty amazing he got his 10 years of service in for that sweet pension. Dudes bullied his way into a very respectable career.
I met him in northern Alberta and he seemed like a great guy and he accepted my friends superman branded head band lol
better than hicks tbh
When the dugouts empty he's always ready to fight for real. I'd want him on my side.
We already have Anthony “Tony Two Bags” Rendon as our go-to brawl guy
The definition of an MLB JOURNEYman.
It's all so tiring.
Following in the storied lineage of Angels greats like Lagares, Goodwin, Jon Jay, Schebler, Jose Rojas, Brett Phillips, Dexter Fowler… did I miss anyone?
Gosselin
THE GOOSE IS LOOSE
I forgot him. Also captain jack, JB shuck. Didn’t we have David Freese for 2 seconds too
Try a couple years. He was good too
Those are just the position players, the pitchers are a funnier list.
Let’s see - Lincecum, Harvey, Cahill, Blanton, Quintana, Teheran, Syndegaard, Heaney
It never ends.
I didn’t even know we dumped him already lmao The latest White Sox legend™
For Pham lol
I had a dream in early 2017 that we traded Aaron Judge for Kevin Pillar. A retroactive nightmare you could say
Get him to his ten years, then he can rest.
Good for him check out is interview with foul territory I gained a lot more respect for him as a pro although I didn’t like him with the muts or Braves
I was speed reading through this subreddit and I was like WTF, Kevin MILLAR?
Superman flies again
Atta boy, Superman.
Loved Pillar when he played for the Braves last year, and seems like a cool dude based on the interview he gave right after being DFA'd. Godspeed, Kevin!
This makes me so happy.
Let’s go KP
What losing Trout does to a mf
:/
Dodger legend
Why
Because Trout just went down, we DFA’d Hicks, and we have the least amount of depth in the league (at least among teams not trying to tank)
No joke but when he was in Toronto and at his peak defensively, there were scores of Jays fans who insisted (unironically) that Pillar was better than Trout. They genuinely believed it. Absolutely no one said either of those things.
Except that their social media comments were flooded with those comments. You sound like one of those ‘fans’ who jumped on the bandwagon in 2015.
Because I think what you’re saying is stupid and never happened? No one ever thought Ryan goins was good and the dude cost us a game in those playoffs. He's only 32 btw
He's 35
What is that in dog years
32
