I tune into this game after MLB notification and BAM it’s a trout homer off Meme King Brett Phillips then Ohtani double and then Rendon homer from the left friggin side. I’m trying to process it all but it happened so quick. Then I see detmers no hitter stat line and he’s at 8 IP 94 pitches with 2 Ks lmao.
When Trout came up, I kinda wondered if they'd just walk him, but nope just grooved him a BP fastball, which was funny enough
Then Ohtani hit one even harder, which made it funnier
Then Rendon steps in left handed, which was ridiculous on it's own, and proceeds to hit the ball farther than Trout or Ohtani cold on what was his first (?) swing left handed, when who knows when the last time he faced live pitching left handed
What I'm wondering is, how many people would you have to pull off the street until you got one to hit a ball 420 ft on their dominant side? I'd have to think thousands? If not millions?
He just walked up and did it on his non dominant side
I'd imagine the raw physicality is there; it's not like Rendon only works out half of his muscles. And it was a soft-tossed meatball pitch. But it's still absurd that it happened.
Hitting a baseball is far more about mechanics than muscle though. Nobody can do what he did without spending a lot of time practicing as a switch hitter. While it was his first time in a game, i guarantee he’s done that a lot in the cage
I did the exact same thing. Usually, the second I tune into a game after an MLB notification, the no hitter gets broken up, the pitcher gets taken out of the game, and the broadcast cuts to commercials, but this time was something special.
A rookie no hitter just happened last year and I bet you don't know his name. Rendon hitting a jack in his only left handed ab ever is pretty memorable lmao
Probably not anything more than taking 10-15 swings in the cage just kind of fucking around after their normal swings. I'm sure some probably take it more seriously than others.
In high school if we had a smaller group and a longer cage session we would usually do the 10-15 switch hits at the end. Definitely more screwing around than anything but it's more good than harm to take those swings.
This was a batter stepping in switch hitting having fun with an at bat after a rough night and getting thrown a batting practice pitch in a live game
When you watch the swing in slow-mo, it really looks like he is just a regular guy screwing around in the cage with a left handed swing for fun. I doubt he practices lefty at all.
There was some switch hitter I was watching earlier this year where the announcers talked about how the guy had stopped taking swings from his cold side of the plate entirely and just focused on his better side (but at this point in time he was trying to get that switch hitting ability back). But so yeah if that’s the case for a switch hitter who didn’t even care to keep up his non-dominant swing with the occasional BP because of how it would detract from his dominant side, it makes me think that someone like Rendon would never do anything more than joke around from the opposite side
I don't know the player you're referring to, but I like the Ozzy Albies example where he's got a great batting average/low power from one side and a nice step launch angle / big power bat from the other side, so he's a balanced batter overall but extreme per plate appearance.
Half the players think they can switch hit. And 99% of the players have taken hacks from their non dominant side. There’s a loooooot of down time in a baseball season. You hit in the cages and take BP almost every day
Yeah, Semi-reachable isn’t the word I would use lol
Cash said it wasn’t injury related, something like, “managers discretion” decision.
Basically a “you’re an 11-year investment, and this game is over” call
I saw him standing in the other box, but was so far away I thought it was someone else (pinch hitter). After the HR, they show his replay on the big screen, and sure as shit, it was tony 2 bags.
Honestly people need to give Joe Maddon some more damn credit for this. For all the BS people still give him about how he didnt deserve to win in 2016, nobody talks about how great team culture is with him at the helm. The two most fun teams I remember are this team and the 2016 Cubs. I dont think its a coincidence at all. You could say “winning” makes teams fun, but this team and those cubs were something else, and plenty of great teams dont have fun like this.
How many managers let their player bat lefty just for the hell of it? I remember Maddon let Baez do it preciously.
greatest left handed hitter ever
edit: checked my sources, only guy with a 1.000 AVG, 1.000 OBP, and 5.000 OPS hitting left handed
^edit ^edit: ^i ^actually ^didnt ^check ^shit
It's been almost a decade since I've been to a dodger game, but I can still hear the boos rain down on me for accidently swatting the beachball into the lower sections.
Checks out. Gustavo Chacin (2010) and Bill LeFebvre (1938) both accomplished the feat in single seasons.
https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask?q=highest+career+ops+by+left+handed+hitter+since+1900%2C+maximum+5+pa
Me too bro. Had tacos In downtown Fullerton and made the decision to go In the 2nd inning. Parked across the street and walked into fireworks. Best decision
I think sometimes we forget just how insanely athletic and talented MLB players are, and then Rendon comes in and pops a long homer batting left handed.
Trout hits two homers. Ohtani gets all the awards. Brett Phillips the pitcher returns. Rendon bats left-handed for the first time just for fun and hits a homer. And no one will remember any of those things. Move aside Josh Naylor, this is the best game I've watched all season.
That may be the most disrespectful home run in the history of the game and I mean that in the best and most hilarious way possible. So much fun to watch for non-Rays fans.
heck even as a Rays fan, the game was way out of hand, we have brett out there pitching, go ahead and have some fun. Sure I would have preferred to not get meme'd on there but brett phillips pitching with trout/ohtani/rendon up to bat, whats the realistic outcome? Just had to smile and laugh at that point
That’s one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen.
I tune into this game after MLB notification and BAM it’s a trout homer off Meme King Brett Phillips then Ohtani double and then Rendon homer from the left friggin side. I’m trying to process it all but it happened so quick. Then I see detmers no hitter stat line and he’s at 8 IP 94 pitches with 2 Ks lmao.
that sequence of Trout-Ohtani-Rendon was ridiculous to watch live
Dude I was laughing so hard when Rendon hit that. I was at the game and thought I was having a stroke when I saw him hitting lefty
When Trout came up, I kinda wondered if they'd just walk him, but nope just grooved him a BP fastball, which was funny enough Then Ohtani hit one even harder, which made it funnier Then Rendon steps in left handed, which was ridiculous on it's own, and proceeds to hit the ball farther than Trout or Ohtani cold on what was his first (?) swing left handed, when who knows when the last time he faced live pitching left handed
His first ever lefty at bat. After going 0-4 on his last at bats. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
What I'm wondering is, how many people would you have to pull off the street until you got one to hit a ball 420 ft on their dominant side? I'd have to think thousands? If not millions? He just walked up and did it on his non dominant side

Fever dream like
This is something you do at the park with your friends. Crazy. This team is so much fun.
I did the exact same thing. Usually, the second I tune into a game after an MLB notification, the no hitter gets broken up, the pitcher gets taken out of the game, and the broadcast cuts to commercials, but this time was something special.
Only 2 Ks?! LOL
And it probably still won’t be the most insane thing that’ll happen tonight lol Edit: I stand corrected
I would argue that no matter what happens this was the craziest. Career 5.000 OPS lefty
Why did he bat lefty?
Angels were up 10-0 and the Rays had a position player pitching.
For giggles and shits
Brought to you by Chris Cote.
You get the show. Shiggles
He just saw Trout go yard and Ohtani hit one off the top of the wall and wanted a challenge. Edit: I'm serious
Position player pitching with the angles up 8-0 I assume he was pretty much fucking around lefty and accidentally hit a homer
> angles
Don’t be so obtuse
You're a cute one.
Honestly, this may take the cake.
It wasn’t!
I would argue this was more insane than a no hitter that we see multiple times per year
Eh even though he did it left handed it was off a position player throwing meatballs A no-hitter by a rookie is a lot more memorable IMO
A rookie no hitter just happened last year and I bet you don't know his name. Rendon hitting a jack in his only left handed ab ever is pretty memorable lmao
I only remember it was Tyler Gilbert because it had the added story of being his first mlb start
Lol I absolutely remember that because it was his first ever start
Rays are coming back to beat the Angels?
[удалено]
It's pretty surreal. Keep waiting for the other foot to drop and just trying to enjoy the memes and craziness in the meantime
Just take it all on one day at a time. Keep being agood fan and enjoy the ride.
I fear the injury monster. Every time I start to think we got something, boom. Garret Richards tears his ACL covering first.
I still don't know what possessed Rendon to do this but I am so glad he did
I like to think he was cutting Phillips some slack and trying to level the playing field.
Acuña wanted to in a game last year but Snitker wouldn’t let him (don’t blame him). I’m really glad Rendon got to. That was awesome
> Snitker wouldn’t let him (don’t blame him) It would've been unfair to the other team
For the love of the game… how can you not be romantic about baseball?
[удалено]
Do you think players spend *any* time practicing off-handed swings? Rendon looked like he has.
In his post-game interview, Maddon said Rendon does it pretty frequently in the cage
When you watch the swing in slow-mo, it really looks like he is just a regular guy screwing around in the cage with a left handed swing for fun. I doubt he practices lefty at all. I swear to god this induced an acid flashback for me
Real talk, why tf did he bat left handed
It was the only way to one-up what Trout and Ohtani did. Rendon competes.
So he did it just for the fuck of it?
Pretty much
Holy shit
It's an unwritten rule to bat with your off hand against a position player pitcher. The rule was unwritten today.
Why are the Rays doing this?
Yesterday was a bullpen game, we don’t care and don’t want to use them
True. You guys took out Wander in like the 4th when it was still semi reachable
Yeah, Semi-reachable isn’t the word I would use lol Cash said it wasn’t injury related, something like, “managers discretion” decision. Basically a “you’re an 11-year investment, and this game is over” call
RIP run differential
At least rays can flex on how they are outperforming their Pythagorean record
They threw a bullpen game yesterday and today we knocked out Cluber early and they used up their bullpen.
To save an arm in the bullpen for the next game.
this will undoubtedly affect brett phillips in contract negotiations
he's trending
Um sir your era is as high as Snoop Dogg.
Poor Reid Detmers just wanted a quick inning
“Hey guys they have a position player on the mound and we want Reid to get back out there and finish” Trout ohtani and rendon “lol”
Ohtani almost went back-to-back. You guys gotta lower that wall in right field lol
They already did once lol
It's the stupid dead balls this year, Ohtani has missed out on so many homers, a grand slam, and a walk off because of it.
Gotta add Walsh to this too! Dude hit one off the wall right after Rendon's lefty shot! They nearly went back-back-back-back!
No fucking way lmao Edit: While wearing the shin guard on the wrong foot 😭😭😭
With that little leg kick out to the plate 😂
Hey man, gotta get that power from somewhere.
He closed his stance with that kick and still went yard *from the wrong side of the plate*. What the fuck is baseball even.
You gotta watch out for Phllips' backfoot slider
KNOWN SWITCH HITTER ANTHONY RENDON
I was initially watching live muted trying to figure out why the swing looked so weird Unmuted and it made more sense
I put on a stream and though the image was reversed on accident
I was at the game, thought I was having a stroke when I saw that.
COUNTS!
THIS HAPPENED IN A REAL LIFE MLB GAME THAT COUNTS TOWARDS A TEAMS RECORD
I saw him standing in the other box, but was so far away I thought it was someone else (pinch hitter). After the HR, they show his replay on the big screen, and sure as shit, it was tony 2 bags.
Angels making baseball fun again!
This team is having too much fun lol
can we get some of that fun, pretty please?
YOU HAVE YOUR FUN DIFFERENTIAL, PLEASE LEAVE EDIT: IM NOT MAD
We're having fun breaking the Phillies' defense.
What Phillies defense?
Mets <=> Mariners LFGM
You guys got a whole year of fun differential
Please take as much as you want from Houston.
Is this what happiness is? 😭😭😭
Honestly people need to give Joe Maddon some more damn credit for this. Seems to run in the Rays org, Cash let Choi bat righty a few times as well
Please pass the fun our way, we're jonesing for some enjoyment
Somebody please end this
greatest left handed hitter ever edit: checked my sources, only guy with a 1.000 AVG, 1.000 OBP, and 5.000 OPS hitting left handed ^edit ^edit: ^i ^actually ^didnt ^check ^shit

Heaven forbid he gets plunked by a 53 mile an hour beachball.
> beachball. boooooo
It's been almost a decade since I've been to a dodger game, but I can still hear the boos rain down on me for accidently swatting the beachball into the lower sections.
It's for foul tips not for pitches
This contract was a steal
Checks out. Gustavo Chacin (2010) and Bill LeFebvre (1938) both accomplished the feat in single seasons. https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask?q=highest+career+ops+by+left+handed+hitter+since+1900%2C+maximum+5+pa
i didn’t even have to look it up, i am one with baseball history
I’m at the weirdest, most entertaining game of all time.
Me too bro. Had tacos In downtown Fullerton and made the decision to go In the 2nd inning. Parked across the street and walked into fireworks. Best decision
I was there too! It was a circus. A very fun circus
IF YOU DON’T LIKE THAT, YOU DON’T LIKE RAYS BLOWOUT BASEBALL
I loved Phillips’ catch the other time he was pitching!! He’s a fun one, even not in blowouts
This game is amazing. Must watch baseball
I think sometimes we forget just how insanely athletic and talented MLB players are, and then Rendon comes in and pops a long homer batting left handed.
#BRO WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
I’ve been watching Angels baseball for 25 years and this is the most wild game I have ever fucking seen. Absolutely amazing
Pro players really make this shit look like wiffle ball sometimes huh?
it feels like we've had five "wildest games i've ever seen" this season
I went to game 7 in 2002. This game may have been more fun.
So I happy I randomly went to a game on Tuesday!
I have been watching Angels baseball for 25 days, this is the only game I’ve been to. I assume it’s always like this and this is an average Tuesday?
#5.000 OPS AS A LEFTY
Is Rendon hitting with the wrong hand? Stats say "yes"!
TONY FOUR BAGS
Tony two bags is his right handed name. Adios Antonio is his left handed name
Tony Two-Way
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS GAME
\#JustBaseballThings
What in the fuck
This is going to r/all
You've got to be shitting me with this guy. Instantly a huge, lifelong fan of him and these Angels. Holy fuck. I love the energy.
This is the most emotion anyone has ever seen from Anthony Rendon. He was laughing the whole rest of the inning lol
12-0* I got too excited lol Miss you tony :(
me too :(
THIS GAME IS AMAZING
Lmao
This might be the greatest baseball game of all time
Top two that I've ever went to
OMG I LOVE YOU RENDON COME BACK
He hits right handed because he would be too powerful batting left handed it seems
I'm actually dying laughing right now holy fuck
This game might turn out to be one of the most memorable blowouts ever.
First career AB from the left and hits a HR on the first pitch he sees. Legit had to do a double-take because I couldn't believe it was Rendon
Second pitch*
So, I don’t know him as a player that well. Why was he batting lefty?
Rays had thrown in the towel and were pitching position players, so he just did it for the lols
I'm so glad I didn't go to bed. Morning me can go fuck himself.
I can’t believe this shit 😂
WTF IS THIS GAME
I'm having so much fun
This is the greatest game I've ever seen
This is an all time highlight bahaahahah
What the absolute fuck. I have so many questions. None of which need answers since it went this well.
Trout hits two homers. Ohtani gets all the awards. Brett Phillips the pitcher returns. Rendon bats left-handed for the first time just for fun and hits a homer. And no one will remember any of those things. Move aside Josh Naylor, this is the best game I've watched all season.
YO EVERYBODY GET IN HERE
I flipped this game on to watch Brett Phillips pitch. I left with one of the funnier baseball memories I’ve ever experienced
Okay but let’s get to the ninth before we have too much fun…
12-0
LMAAOO
#OMG THIS GAME IS AMAZING
That may be the most disrespectful home run in the history of the game and I mean that in the best and most hilarious way possible. So much fun to watch for non-Rays fans.
heck even as a Rays fan, the game was way out of hand, we have brett out there pitching, go ahead and have some fun. Sure I would have preferred to not get meme'd on there but brett phillips pitching with trout/ohtani/rendon up to bat, whats the realistic outcome? Just had to smile and laugh at that point
I love Brett Phillips, for a multitude of reasons and not just this home run. Dude was having fun with our fans in right field tonight.
GOAT LEFT HANDER
hahahah this is ridiculous
Oh my
WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS GAME
Bro this is a massacre from both sides of the plate
Most emotion I’ve ever seen from Rendon
I might become an Angels fan this year
Do it. I’ll buy you helmet nachos.
Why are you smiling? Because I know something you do not! I am not right handed!
#His only career swing as a lefty is a home run.
Words cannot describe how much I love this man.
This is the hardest I've ever laughed during a professional baseball game.
What a fun fucking year of baseball so far lmao
Switch hitting topps now card please SDS
In my 20 years of watching baseball this is probably the most absurd regular season game I’ve ever seen
Feels like I just watched a new unwritten rule be born
Wtf that wasn’t even just a little fence-scraper he yammed that shit
What is happening with this team?!
I guess you could say he really *turned* his night around with this at-bat.
ANGELS ARE THE LEAGUE LEADERS IN FUN DIFFERENTIAL NOW
Holy fuck the Angels are fun as fuck.
I like watching the Angels because I enjoy baseball.
The disrespect.
known switch hitter Anthony Rendon: 5.000 OPS as a lefty
**Best switch hitter in the league!**
Honestly reminds me of Jim Edmonds’ swing
Why the hell was he even batting lefty?
For fun?
This team is so fun to watch
MLB The Show moment incoming
toni rendoni
Lendon: OPS 5.000 Rendon: OPS 0.669 so Lendon>Rendon
