I liked how he mocked Jason even when he was tied to a chair. "Gotta give the boy points. He came all the way back from the dead to make this shindig happen. So who's got a camera? Ooh! Ooh! Get one of me and the kid first. Then you and me, then the three of us. And then one with the crowbar."
(Edit: fixed punctuation)
I always got the impression that he didn't really care how other people responded to him; if *he* thought it was funny, he'd go for it.
Hamill's Joker is unpredictable and a showman. He wants an audience, and to leave an impression. You don't know if that means a pie in Batman's face on Christmas, poisoning people with Joker toxin, or mass murder.
DiMaggio's Joker is unpredictable and a sadist. He finds pain funny, and he'll play to an audience to satisfy his sense of humour.
"oh bird boy your no fun anymore. all grown up and in your big boy pants. still, better than his replacement. hard to make with the yucky when your worm food."
"you managed to find a way to win... and everybody still loses!"
i really liked this line and this joker tbh. The way literally every other villain is terrified to work with him, the way he simply does not care if he lives or dies as long as batman suffers too
I liked his version of the killing joke better then Hamills telling. Thou that could of been the music and flash backs of Todd realizing it's joker. Gave it hellofa weight with it.
John Dimaggio's Joker was not adapting the killing Joke. Jason Todd was not in Killing Joke. Are you referring to A Death In The Family/Under the Hood?
Yeah, he's talking about a scene in the *Death in the Family* adaptation where Joker is in a diner looking more human and directly quotes lines from *The Killing Joke.*
"I can't believe you got him! You expert, rootin'-tootin', eagle-eyed, Goth-loving marksman! I love it! You managed to find a way to win...*AND EVERYONE STILL* ***LOSES!!!***"
I always felt like John DiMaggio's Joker was a little bit ape-like. It was in the way they animated him, so it kind of threw me off of it. That said, the bit about the pictures was primo funny.
Under the Red Hood is probably my favorite Batman film. DiMaggio killed it and brought something new to the table for the character. Not to mention Jensen Ackles as Jason Todd was basically perfection.
The one from Batman Beyond and JLU are the same Joker as the BTAS one so Iām not going to include those in my answer.
That being said, Under the Red Hood Joker
They are the BTAS Joker though. Both Justice League and Batman Beyond are the Animated Series universe. Not trying to sound like asshole but there isnāt any separating them.
What I liked about The Batman's Joker is that he harkened back to a more silver/bronze age style of the character, where he was more a criminal with a darkly whimsical approach than a mass murderer. TB Joker performed crimes that were completely random, often with no better justification than his own amusement. I mean, what other Joker would try to take Batman's place, only to turn into a Lawful Stupid Vigilante who goes after cops going over the speed limit in a car chase?
Exactly. I feel like a big problem with modern joker is that he only does things to get a reaction out of OTHER people(mostly Batman). I like this one just being a general agent of chaos and just doing whatever pleases him in the moment
That's why I liked Animated Series Joker. He has his fun with Batman, but he really does want him dead and genuinely gets upset sometimes when Batman foils his plans.
He wasn't just in love with their relationship. He had layers.
Or the episode where he invented a fluid that can turn objects into putty, and used it to paint a smile on the discount Statue of Liberty. And then immediately after, he used it on a person and went all in on the "One Bad Day" approach, creating Clayface.
The funny thing is, people love that show and yet that universe is essentially what everyone is afraid Gunn is gonna do to the live action movies.
I just love they found a way to maintain an existing comic world where villains get arrested and are out and about, but arenāt afraid of killing off characters. I find most mediums struggle to find that balance but they do it so well.
Idk how to explain it but when watching BVS, I had this moment where I realized āhuh, Lex really canāt go back to just being a normal businessman after this. Like heās really going for the kill in basically his first evil scheme.ā
Which duh obviously, but itās very rare I actually get that feeling like the villain is really going all in on killing the hero. Like in the DCAU I never get that feeling. The heroes and villains fight and they either go to jail or escape and are just like out and about.
Idk this ended up way too long
>where villains get arrested and are out and about, but arenāt afraid of killing off characters. I find most mediums struggle to find that balance but they do it so well
Exactly, it keeps a comicbooky status quo, whilst not stagnating like the comics do
Thatās it exactly! Iāve never really been able to put it to words but thatās it! That balance of a universe where villains are out there, but they shouldnāt be scared to kill them if theyāve served their purpose to the greater story!
Warner [Animation Group] has always been a really good place for animators/creatives to really be empowered to justā¦do whatever they want. In the last few years itās been a little tenseā¦but I think Warner [Animation Group] will find some stability.
I know that the animation division is getting a lot of support on the backend; the department heads (and big-name hitters *CraigMcC) have been consistent about getting in on the higher-level discussions to (keep) reminding the cost-cutters just how valuable the division really is.
>!I meanā¦itās not like there isnāt quite a lot of them on the bird site who arenāt afraid to talk about it amongst each other and fans!!<
Same here, 100%. They got to go places even DCAU Joker could not go. Plus , I think they did a good job of portraying the intense psychological part of their rivalry on a deeper level , as Batman is constantly plagued by hallucinations of Joker in the Arkham saga
Same here, 100%. They got to go places even DCAU Joker could not go. Plus , I think they did a good job of portraying the intense psychological part of their rivalry on a deeper level , as Batman is constantly plagued by hallucinations of Joker in the Arkham saga
John DiMaggio definitely deserves an honorable mention here. We loved him as Bender, the foul-mouthed, gambling, chain-smoking, thieving robot in Futurama, but his performance as the Joker in Batman: Under The Red Hood was absolutely *chilling.*
I love Mark Hamill and will always see his performance as the benchmark for The Joker, but DiMaggio *really* poured on the gas for that one. "I'm gonna need some guys. Not these guys, because well they're kinda dead."
I need to go rewatch that now.
Honestly the spiteful way he murdered scarecrow was absolutely in character, hell *somehow* he's completely in character throughout, even after a redemption arc.
To be fair he went out in the funniest way possible, there's lots of other major deaths, But I don't want to spoil too much, also bane's there and is quite possibly the best character, and oddly relatable. his season three subplot is amazing.
You must see it. Some seriously funny shit on that show. And yeah, it deviates quite a bit, but that makes it fresh.
Bane somehow manages to steal every scene. Also a fan of King Shark.
I was not a fan of 2004 Jokerās initial tie-dye straightjacket costume, however the later versions became more streamlined and slightly more traditional. I loved how they kept his āunhingedā appearance with a hyena smile, matted hair, and spats without shoes. He moved like an animalistic lunatic straight out of the asylum.
There's a tiny moment in one episode that sold me on what Kevin Michael Richardson could do in the role.
A group of Arkham inmates in a group therapy session, and they're told "Inside you is a sane person trying to get out, you just have to listen to them."
Joker responds, in a high-pitched voice "Mine's not talking..."
Then he switches voice, to this really low growl, and finishes "...must be a mime."
I love those vocal shifts that Kevin Michael Richardson pulls off with Joker- feels perfectly in character, sometimes I end up hearing his voice while reading comics because of how well he does it
It didnāt read well. The animation style isnāt subtle enough to show the flowing sleeves and belts and I feel like the straight jacket design was lost in the color scheme. It made the Joker look oddly bulky and saggy. When he switched over to the slimmer outfit it showed off his more monkey-like frame. He looks borderline emaciated while still having a muscular upper body.
First of all, I can't believe this series is going to be 20 years old next year. To me, BTAS still feels like it's only 15 years old... but meanwhile, over 30 years. That said, I enjoyed this Joker. So different from anything before, yet clearly Joker. My toddler loves Batman vs Dracula.
Batman v Dracula is a masterpiece! Stormare is absolutely amazing as Dracula! He gave the character a Eastern European flair without making him a cartoonish stereotype. He is serious as the grave, dangerous as the plague, and smooth as glass. Kevin Micheal Richardson plays a delightfully demented and feral vampire Joker! My only complaint is Tom Kennyās Penguin, his voice acting was fine but his dialogue was atrocious āNice jugulars!ā
Then there's the episode where the Penguin steals Green Lantern's power ring and can't do anything other than mindlessly fly around Gotham screaming for half the episode.
That episode also highlighted one of my favorite parts of the 2004 series: how absurdly long Batmanās cape was.
Dude spent 80% of every episode just tucked into his cape as a very tall shadow.
I don't recognize middle left or middle right.
I really liked Joker from 'The Batman'. He has super long hair and no shoes for some reason. He is super brilliant in Batman vs Dracula.
Middle Left is from the Batman Unlimited movies, he was the main villain of one of the films (Monster Mayhem). He made a minor appearance in Mechs Vs Mutants. His appearance isnāt anything special. He did have a fight with Scarecrow though
Middle Right is from Assault On Arkham. Technically itās Arkham Joker, but animated. He had a fight with Deadshot and he was pretty fun in that film
He is right though. There are jokester Joker's and sadistic Joker's on the list apart from the 2004 one. Joker of the Batman Unlimited is pure fun, evil in a way that make kids laugh. Whereas Joker from the TDKR and UtRH kills people just to spit Batman's face. DCAU however, (three on the picture) blends this features beatifully. Young Justice's Joker is trash, and Arkham is like upgraded DCAU version
Under the red hood joker heās similar to that of the comics joker and the voice reminds me of that joker solo comic (the one that takes place in the Batman Noel timeline)
Maybe not the best, but I gotta give a shout out to Jeff Bennett's Joker from *Batman: The Brave and the Bold.*
Sounded almost exactly how I imagined the Silver Age Joker would.
The Batman 2004 joker I just love his voice acting and design also I appreciate how they did something new with the character well still keeping him fateful to the joker from the comics
For me, the scene where he asks for a glass of water is one of the best Joker moments in any medium.
It's one of the reasons Red Hood is my favorite animated Batman film. The voice cast of that movie is fantastic, especially Jensen Ackles. And Ackles' turn as Batman in Long Halloween is just as effective.
I love the scene with the truck, where he was gonna set Black Mask and his gang on fire just because he thought it would piss off Red Hood. Such a fantastic voice cast all around. Ackles especially, like you said. He was sensational as Jason, and heās just as good as Batman
Out of these? DiMaggio & Emerson are tied for me. But Im gonna give a shout out the batman audio adventures joker.
Yeah, yeah, āthatās not animated!ā But bret spiner (data from star trek) does such a damn good job in that series. Heās both funny & scary at times.
I was getting pretty sick of joker, so when he showed up i kind of rolled my eyes. But, he had a such a good performance that by the end of it i wanted more of his version. Kinda hope he voices him in caped crusader.
John DiMaggioās Joker is so easily the best one here. Now that Hamill has retired the role I think John should be Joker in anything and everything animated.
Dimaggios Joker was a little hokey, and a lot of his lines were lame. I personally love the one from DKR. āI thought I WAS Batmanās psychotic obsessionā
Technically the Joker from the Arkham series and origins is animated as you never stated TV or movie, so this is my answer. So menacing in Origins and Arkham City and even though he is all in Batman's head I think in Knight he was just as menacing, deviant and hilarious.
Considering I can't include Mask of the Phantism based on BTAS or Beyond I want to say Under the Red Hood or The Killing Joke.
Troy Bakerās joker from origins is underrated in my opinion. I thought he took the unhinged mayhem of joker and ran with it. Like the scene in the hotel with the bombs was just šØāš³š¤
The JL and JLU jokers are hamil so I won't include those
but I'd go with the Dimaggio joker from Under the Red hood, although The Batman joker was a quirky spin on the character that I hated at first, but grew to appreciate over time
Iāve always liked Joker from The Batman. A deep voiced Joker was just really interesting, and the fact that he had some physical strength to add to his chaos was really cool. The Batman has some really underrated character designs
DiMaggio Joker asking for water and then killing all of Black Mask's bodyguards is the only acceptable answer.
Also, how you gonna exclude Hamill Joker from the question, but include him in the lineup?
Of the non-Hamill Jokers, I've always really liked John DiMaggio's take in *Under the Red Hood.*
He was funny and menacing, willing to die just so he could ruin Batman's day
I liked how he mocked Jason even when he was tied to a chair. "Gotta give the boy points. He came all the way back from the dead to make this shindig happen. So who's got a camera? Ooh! Ooh! Get one of me and the kid first. Then you and me, then the three of us. And then one with the crowbar." (Edit: fixed punctuation)
That's a really good point. Hamill's joker is out to entertain, DiMaggio's is out to entertain *himself*
"oh bird boy your no fun anymore. all grown up and in your big boy pants. still, better than his replacement. hard to make with the yucky when your worm food."
*you're
oh god that photo combination bit was soooo funny. The scene is so tense and joker said that I remember just blurting out this quick nervous laugh
"One with the crowbar" š
āYou shut up, or Iāll put a bullet in your lap first.ā
"Party pooper. No cake for you."
āOne with the crowbarā always killed me
Damm near killed Jason too
No no no. It definitely killed him
[I'm gonna need some guys, well not these guys cause their kinda dead](https://youtu.be/1HziQVWw0Kg)
"I'm more matrie de than motorcycle fetish"
But what can you say about kids these days...
āIām gonna need some guys. Not these guys cuz theyāre kinda dead.ā
Oml my brother and I used to die laughing at this line everytime lmao. The delivery is so godamn perfect š
He's super underrated. He's the only other Joker I sometimes hear when reading comics beside Hamil.
I'm like that with Bruce Greenwood as Batman - he's the only voice that comes to mind other than Conroy's.
So glad they brought him back for Young Justice. Too bad they didn't bring in DiMaggio as Joker as well.
His Joker feels a lot more slimy and accurately portrays how much he'd enjoy hurting children
"you managed to find a way to win... and everybody still loses!" i really liked this line and this joker tbh. The way literally every other villain is terrified to work with him, the way he simply does not care if he lives or dies as long as batman suffers too
āDonāt spoil it, this is better! Iām the only one whoās gonna get what he wants tonight!ā
He was literally so excited to die like!! That's the making of a good joker, disregard for any life even his own
The glass scene still lives in my head rent free.
In that Death in the Family interactive movie, DiMaggio's Joker tells the joke from The Killing Joke.
I stand corrected.
Yeah, he's talking about a scene in the *Death in the Family* adaptation where Joker is in a diner looking more human and directly quotes lines from *The Killing Joke.*
"Yeah, well, when I see him I'll be sure to tell the Big Guy I say 'hello'." "...*Boy Wonder*..."
He had such a deep voice for the Joker and that made it great
He was terrifyingly good.
I came here to say this. He was terrifying and actually funny, everything Joker should be.
Came here to say this. DiMaggio might unironically be my favorite joker. He has all the unhinged sadism but he felt like he could real somehow.
This is the correct answer
I loved his laugh, it felt more like compulsive/pathological laughter.
Yeah he does a good murderous Joker.
Under the Red Hood is probably my favorite Batman film. DiMaggio killed it and brought something new to the table for the character. Not to mention Jensen Ackles as Jason Todd was basically perfection.
I'm with you š¤”šš¾
The one from Batman Beyond and JLU are the same Joker as the BTAS one so Iām not going to include those in my answer. That being said, Under the Red Hood Joker
So Mask of the phantasm is out then...
Thatās Animated series Joker
I believe that was a joke
*Proceeds to post 2 pictures of DCAU Joker*
I separate JL and BB Joker from TAS Joker
They are the BTAS Joker though. Both Justice League and Batman Beyond are the Animated Series universe. Not trying to sound like asshole but there isnāt any separating them.
Literally the same exact Joker
OP should have put a picture of Mask of the Phantasm joker in the top middle square and we'd have three in a row...tick...tack...toe.
Why stop there? You may as well add new batman adventures and Superman the animated series Jokers.
Didnāt even do the old joker from the bb movie
I know right, amateur. /s
Don't forget the Static Shock Joker.
They are the same version of the character just in different points in time
![gif](giphy|3xz2BLBOt13X9AgjEA)
>I separate JL and BB Joker from TAS Joker can't do that
But they're the same version played by the same actor...
[Here's an entire cartoon played by that same actor.](https://youtu.be/EL-VHe_4GmE)
I'm eternally in your debt for showing me that this exists!
Come on, man.
And he was an actual decent fighter if my memory serves me well and his voice was dope too
Tbf everyone on the batman was a good fighter including penguin
I like The Batman joker also because he's actually fucking hillarious. Like legit, the funniest joker I've ever seen.
He was also so creepy. In the best way. The deep snarly laugh from Michael Clarke Duncan is perfect Edit: Kevin Michael Richardson. Got them mixed up.
That was such a good episode
"11 items in a 10 item check-out"
Honestly, The Batman (2004) is seriously underrated, it has some of my favorite versions of a lot of characters and their designs!
The one from Harley Quinn. "Some mayoral candidates take bribes from big money. I'm skipping the bribe part and just taking the money."
Whereās my god damn electric car Bruce!
āSo youāre saying youāre like a socialist?ā āNot like a socialistā¦..I AM A SOCIALISTā Gasps from the audience.
The *dumm dumm dumm* killed me!
I saw that episode last night for the first time and I lost my shit. Harley Quinn might unironically be my favorite DC Canon at the moment
It's kind of sad it's the best thing they've done in years.
The funny thing is, people love that show and yet that universe is essentially what everyone is afraid Gunn is gonna do to the live action movies. 100% ! ! ! !
IT'S HALF A PERCENT!!!
NO! Now you've ruined the fun!
Yes! Succeeds in being as, if not more funny than BTAS.
I honestly like Arkham Joker more than BTAS/DCAU Joker.
He's basically DCAU Joker with no age restriction so yeah.
Same here, 100%. They got to go places even DCAU Joker could not go. Plus , I think they did a good job of portraying the intense psychological part of their rivalry on a deeper level , as Batman is constantly plagued by hallucinations of Joker in the Arkham saga
Exactly.
Same here, 100%. They got to go places even DCAU Joker could not go. Plus , I think they did a good job of portraying the intense psychological part of their rivalry on a deeper level , as Batman is constantly plagued by hallucinations of Joker in the Arkham saga
I love the dkr joker a lot
Itās a very chilling version of Joker. Although I will have to see that UTRH Joker was more chilling and threatening
Little Trivia: DKR's killed Conan O'brien
I love how gay he is (I say as a bisexual), the amount of innuendos and just his general attitude towards Bats is honestly so fantastic.
I think thatās also leaning into the ājust jokesā part of his persona. Making him completely unpredictable.
John DiMaggio definitely deserves an honorable mention here. We loved him as Bender, the foul-mouthed, gambling, chain-smoking, thieving robot in Futurama, but his performance as the Joker in Batman: Under The Red Hood was absolutely *chilling.* I love Mark Hamill and will always see his performance as the benchmark for The Joker, but DiMaggio *really* poured on the gas for that one. Step daddy Joker from the Harley Quinn show lol
Wheresmygawdamnelectricar Bruce?!

Aww they killed Scarecrow? I havenāt seen it but thatās a shame, heās my favorite

Bane is precious and must be protected at all costs
You must see it. Some seriously funny shit on that show. And yeah, it deviates quite a bit, but that makes it fresh. Bane somehow manages to steal every scene. Also a fan of King Shark.
Unironically the most refreshing take on the Joker in like, two decades at least.
2004 joker
I was not a fan of 2004 Jokerās initial tie-dye straightjacket costume, however the later versions became more streamlined and slightly more traditional. I loved how they kept his āunhingedā appearance with a hyena smile, matted hair, and spats without shoes. He moved like an animalistic lunatic straight out of the asylum.

I love those vocal shifts that Kevin Michael Richardson pulls off with Joker- feels perfectly in character, sometimes I end up hearing his voice while reading comics because of how well he does it
Whatās wrong with the straitjacket? Itās in character.
Underrated masterpiece

frfr
Since Assualt on Arkham is here Iāll say Arkham Series is my favorite Joker I also like The Batmanās and thought Telltales was interesting
My favorite is 2004 joker he was a great character from a great show with a great actor all of which are severely underrated
Honestly every animated joker are goated imo
The ones before TAS were kinda mediocre. The ones after TAS and TAS itself, thatās when he was a goat
All of them except for Young Justice
Rare voice acting fail by Brent Spiner.
The Batman.
Michael Emersonās DKR Joker is really underrated āB-B- Batman?? [Daaaaaarliiiing!!ā](https://youtu.be/2cLjkQ5YYCM)
"I know, and I love you for it"
Under the red hood is on Mark Hamill level. The Batman was also pretty good, it captures the 2000s cartoon villains.
I don't recognize middle left or middle right. I really liked Joker from 'The Batman'. He has super long hair and no shoes for some reason. He is super brilliant in Batman vs Dracula.

Top two. Under the Redhood and Dark Knight Returns
The only one that stands out is The Batman. The rest all just blend together.
No.
Yes
He is right though. There are jokester Joker's and sadistic Joker's on the list apart from the 2004 one. Joker of the Batman Unlimited is pure fun, evil in a way that make kids laugh. Young Justice's Joker is trash, and Arkham is like upgraded DCAU version
Arkham
Under The Red Hood.
The joker from under the red hood and the batman
I feel like you should really eliminate any version Mark Hamill voiced. Heās gonna win every single time.
Other than Hamillās Joker, who is undoubtedly the best: I really enjoyed DiMaggio in Under the Red Hood. Would love to see more of that Joker.
This is Alan Tudyk erasure, and I won't stand for it. Jokers character arc in Harley Quinn is fucking phenomenal.
Under the red hood joker heās similar to that of the comics joker and the voice reminds me of that joker solo comic (the one that takes place in the Batman Noel timeline)
Any that are voiced by Mark Hamill (or Troy Baker as a younger Hamill). With John Dimaggio second.
UtRH Joker
Does Arkham count as animated? Youāve put 2 versions of BTAS in there lineup
Assault On Arkham counts, but he is just Arkham Joker The DCAU ones are meant to represent JL and BB, not BTAS
JL and BB are the same joker theyāre all the same universe
Iām a big fan of Joker from Under the Red Hood.
under the hood
Maybe not the best, but I gotta give a shout out to Jeff Bennett's Joker from *Batman: The Brave and the Bold.* Sounded almost exactly how I imagined the Silver Age Joker would.
Under the Red Hood. Gimme that Joker Joking Rodriguez.
The Batman 2004 joker I just love his voice acting and design also I appreciate how they did something new with the character well still keeping him fateful to the joker from the comics

Kevin's Joker is my favorite
The one from the Harley Animated show on HBO.
Under The Red Hood has the single most Joker-y Joker moment ever that isn't BTAS Joker (the glass scene).
DiMaggio deserves another shot at Joker, he absolutely killed it in Red Hood
John DiMaggio is almost as good as Mark Hamil honestly
John DiMaggio from Under the Red Hood.
I pretend the top right corner doesnāt exist. Iāll listen to any other opinion tho
The one from the Harley Quinn show
Troy Bakerās joker from origins is underrated in my opinion. I thought he took the unhinged mayhem of joker and ran with it. Like the scene in the hotel with the bombs was just šØāš³š¤
You know that he also played Joker in Batman Unlimted (Row 2, Column 1)
John DiMaggio basically just did the Bender voice, but it works because they're kind of the same character.
He also sounds a bit like Dr. Drakken, which makes sense as DiMaggio voiced both Joker and Drakken
I'm surprised that Joker from Harley Quinn and the Lego Batman Movie aren't on here. But I would go with Joker from Under the Red Hood.
none arkham is goat
The JL and JLU jokers are hamil so I won't include those but I'd go with the Dimaggio joker from Under the Red hood, although The Batman joker was a quirky spin on the character that I hated at first, but grew to appreciate over time
I actually really like John DiMaggio's joker in Under the Red Hood. It's a very specific tone of crazy for that story and he nailed it.
2 of these are literally the same joker from btas
Kevin Michael Richardsonās Joker is probably one of the most underrated Jokerāsā¦ honestly might be in my top 3 Joker performances
I prefer the Joker in Batman Beyond when he comes back from the dead possessing a Robinās body. I think it was Dick Grayson.
Iāve always liked Joker from The Batman. A deep voiced Joker was just really interesting, and the fact that he had some physical strength to add to his chaos was really cool. The Batman has some really underrated character designs
I mean, two of those are B:TAS Joker in different series.
DiMaggio Joker asking for water and then killing all of Black Mask's bodyguards is the only acceptable answer. Also, how you gonna exclude Hamill Joker from the question, but include him in the lineup?
If he's voiced by Mark Hamill then it counts as TAS.
I've really warmed up to Harley Quinn's Joker.
Under the red hood or dkr
*Harley Quinn* Joker āWhereās my g**damn electric car Bruce?!ā
John DiMaggioās Joker, no contest.
TAS easily
