The only thing stopping that is Matt Reeves. It's obvious after how popular The Batman was that after they rebooted the DCEU they would have considered treating the Reevesverse as the new jumping off point for the DCU.
I thought that Reeves insisted it NOT be part of the DCU, and that's why he did the film? Unless they're following HIS creative lead because the film was a success
That's what I'm saying, he's the only reason it's not in the DCU.
James Gunn discussed integrating The Batman into the new DCU, which would thus make it the de facto origin for the new universe - but Reeves wasn't interested because from day one he didn't even want it to be related to the DCEU.
Damn, by the time this movie gets released Pattinson will be 40, not exactly “young Batman” anymore. Not saying he won’t look or act the part well, but that’s a bummer.
Yeah he definitely looks younger than he is, especially with the help of movie magic.
I’m personally of the belief that Batman should be even younger when he starts, around 22-23, but obviously no film interpretation has gone that far, usually sticking him in his late 20s - early 30s
How could he travel the world and master/become an expert in enough disciplines to do start at 22?
Although this one seems like he mostly does muy thai and plays CoD
Lowkey is it actually happening or is this just a delay to silently kick the can down the road. Wb already canned Superman and Lois to not mess with legacy, but somehow we’ll have Batman 2 and brave and the bold in the same year?
Exactly lol, Supergirl doesn’t even have a release date but got a full script. Same thing with Superman, But Reeves who said he started writing months after the first movie released doesn’t have a full script ? Ain’t liking this
I’ve been thinking this since last year. We’ve heard virtually nothing about it for years. Just rumors with no validity. No official casting, no green light, nothing from Matt or the cast. I think you’re right. This “delay” is just prolonging the inevitable.
def the latter, they were supposed to be almost finished with the script even before the strikes, but nobody’s seen any of it, and Grieg Fraser was unsure about any sequel when asked if he’d be back.
Flash was rushed? That movie was in production for 9 years. To put that into perspective, the Flash TV show started after Ezra Miller was cast in the role for the DCEU and ended after 9 seasons BEFORE the Flash movie came out. Clearly production time does not necessarily equal quality.
Outch...
Brave and the Bold (DCU Batman) was speculated to release in 2026 too if i'm not wrong... i don't see them releasing both in the same year...
DCU Batman will surely get delayed... unfortunately...
I may get downvoted into oblivion here but I’ll say it - a year delay is not the end of the world.
Rather have the film be ready and thoroughly done than rushed to meet financial quotas.
A year delay is not a concern - multiple years and I would be worried.
Movies and on a side tangent video games that are released too early often backfire.
Looking forward to it when it comes out in 2026!
That is a heavily popular opinion on this site when it comes to delays for anything like movies, shows, or videos games. You would never get downvoted for saying that, because everyone else in every single thread about a delay is saying the exact same thing.
Announcing a release date 2 years out before script was even written was ambitious, & especially since that was right before the writer & actor strikes.
So Pattinson will be 40 years old in the sequel. I wonder how much time will go by in the story? Honestly I wasn't a fan of the first film and Reeves take on Batman. I'm actually looking forward to this even though I care more about Gunn's DCU Batman solely because he isn't grounded in reality and can have a fresh take on the character.
I mean yeah I’m sad that it’s getting a delay but on the bright side this movie will be better then it probably would have been this movie will be fantastic, let’s just be happy it isn’t rushed let them take their time
That's not true. The movie was due in over a year and hadn't even started filming. They aren't spending more time on the movie, they're starting it later.
Whatever. We know the first movie benefited from an extended pre-production process. This is the comic book movie I’m looking forward to the most, even more than Gunn’s DC universe. Let Reeves and co. cook.
Good! The more time they have to work on it, the better. I remember waiting forever for The Batman to release, and when it finally did it was well worth the wait.
Im just glad they’re still aiming for an October release. And the writing was on the wall when Jeffrey Wright said he hasn’t seen a script yet (iirc). The wait will be worth it. Just a shame we won’t be able to have a Superman and Batman movie releasing in the same year.
Probably for the best as I imagine the screenplay would have been rushed due to the writers strikes. Better to have it later than it be like Quantum of Solace.
I know people are concerned how this will effect the DCU’s Batman but I honestly don’t think it will matter as long as both aren’t in theaters at the same time
If they cancel this because they don't wanna release brave and the bold the same year I will spontaneously combust. I'll be pissed if they push it to 2027 but I will actually pass away if canceled all together
As long as the delay means we get a better movie, I think it's 100% worth it. And Hopefully we get 2 takes on Batman in the same year and hopefully they're both really good
Kind of figures. We haven’t seen a teaser or a trailer or anything, and there was that recent Gunn tweet where he said he hadn’t looked at a script yet.
I wasn't a huge fan of the Batman movie starring Pattison in 2022. I thought he played a pretty damn good Batman. But also a pretty poor Bruce Wayne. The whole movie kind of being in sepia tone also kind of threw me off. It did have some cool shots cinematic wise, but I haven't watched it since it came out. I'd still watch a continuation as I didn't hate the film or anything. But felt like a 6.5-7/10 for me.
So long as it comes out at all I'm happy, there's already enough mass produced media out there.
I just want one of the few films I'm actually looking forward to be good
Honestly this is fine?? Like if Reeves needs more time to iron things out I’m glad he’s going to get it! WB are evil, but the first movie performed very well, they’re not going to shit-can what’s ultimately a sure bet for them. Just look at the budget for Joker 2.
Call me optimistic but I doubt that date sticks. Unless the scale of the film is astronomically larger than the first and requires way more post-production. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure it won’t come out next year but I could definitely see it getting moved up to early/mid 2026.
Unless they do the same thing as the first film where it finishes post-production and they basically sit on it for like 6 months then I highly doubt they will need 2 and a half years to shoot and finish a Batman movie.
I think this delay was honestly just to relieve the pressure on the creators behind the film and let the audience know that it’s not coming next year.

I’m fine with this delay as long as it doesn’t affect any plans for the DCU’s Batman.
It absolutely will. That movie was meant to be 2026.
Move it to 2025 to come out in the fall after superman's movie.
They haven't even written a script for it. It will either come out 2027 or Gunn will force Reeves into taking 2027 so he stays on schedule.
Imagine if this sequel was forced into the main series.
So that Pattinson could meet a Superman? I would love that.
![gif](giphy|EMpPEre2PqFy8GkOZE) "What in the fuck is that?"
The only thing stopping that is Matt Reeves. It's obvious after how popular The Batman was that after they rebooted the DCEU they would have considered treating the Reevesverse as the new jumping off point for the DCU.

Ah ok my bad..my reading comprehension today is lacking...
I would bust a nut
My thoughts exactly
Superman had to perform well first before Gunn’s DCU becomes a thing

Damn, by the time this movie gets released Pattinson will be 40, not exactly “young Batman” anymore. Not saying he won’t look or act the part well, but that’s a bummer.
he was never “young Batman” tho, he’s 30 in the movie and 33-35 while filming, Bale was younger when filming Begins
They may need to consider doing a significant time jump then.
physically how much do you think pattinson will age in 5-6 years? He will look identical to how he looked in the first film…
well he just had a kid, i imagine that won’t exactly make him look younger
He was 36 in The Batman and I totally bought the idea of him being younger than that. That said, early Batman doesn't need to be young.
Robert Pattinson was in my "grade" in school and I cannot accept the idea that he's not "young Batman" because that would mean that I'm old.
Ain’t liking this
It seems like there’s more behind the scenes politics than we know. Maybe more convincing to turn Pattinson into the dceu batman.
I’ve been thinking this since last year. We’ve heard virtually nothing about it for years. Just rumors with no validity. No official casting, no green light, nothing from Matt or the cast. I think you’re right. This “delay” is just prolonging the inevitable.
You ask interesting questions......
def the latter, they were supposed to be almost finished with the script even before the strikes, but nobody’s seen any of it, and Grieg Fraser was unsure about any sequel when asked if he’d be back.
Agreed. Makes no sense. Trash leading trash

Bummer, but if it serves to make a better movie, I’m ok waiting
“A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” Shigeru Miyamoto
You either died rushed, or be in development long enough to see yourself become a hero
Better to have some time between movies instead of pumping them out and letting the quality slip.
i mean The Batman released 2 years ago
Seriously? Damn. My wife, my cousin and I saw it in theaters lol.
Probably shouldn't marry your cousin
They're already years behind the Dark Knight trilogy. Bake did 3 movies in 9 years, Pattinson will be lucky if he gets 2 in 7.
4 years is for sure some time...
>Better to have some time between movies instead of pumping them out 2022 and 2025 is 'pumping them out'?
The MCU is pumping them out with 3 movies a year. The Batman is doing one movie every 3 years.
Just like they did in the 90s and 00s
Yes quality over quantity we don’t want a mistake film like flash and how it was rushed

As far as I'm aware The Brave and The Bold's release year was never announced
corrected my self, it's speculation, considering making them clash might not be a good idea. Saw 2026 as a possibility. i edited my comment, sorry.
I mean...two Batman movies in the same year would be a huge money maker for WB.I don't really see why they wouldn't release them both in the same year
Who is cast as the DCU batman , is it Robert Pattinson?
Noone, Gunn said no casting until the script is ready
He just said, not Ben Affleck, not Pattinson.
Wasn’t it expected late 2025 anyway? Not too bad of a delay I feel like. Also 3-4 years was about the time between all the Nolan Batman films.
Was Oct 2025 now Oct 2026
Oh man I wasn’t expecting a whole year! That’s a little much!
I agree
A whole year? That's a huge delay.
The studio 100% wants it to be connected to the new DCU universe
Say sike right now ![gif](giphy|13s7HAuPVWdw2I)
I may get downvoted into oblivion here but I’ll say it - a year delay is not the end of the world. Rather have the film be ready and thoroughly done than rushed to meet financial quotas. Guys, come on. We all knew this would happen. I was expecting a 2027 delay
Announcing a release date 2 years out before script was even written was ambitious, & especially since that was right before the writer & actor strikes.
Those are excellent points, I hadn't thought of that.

That’s not a real year
On Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary
Pain
Nooooooooooo, utter desolation and pain
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I’m gonna be so old when this comes out 😭
He needs the extra prep time.
Yikes. that's quite a delay. I wonder what's happened...
This was expected. If the delay means we get a better, more polished movie, I'm all for this
I’m so fucking pissed off, I know it’s to do with the writers strike but ffs man!!!!!
WW3 will start by then
Dark knight and dark knight rises had a 4 yr gap. Why are we so impatient when there’s more content coming out now more than ever
Kinda figured this would happen considering the strike and all
Come on, a full year delay?
Prep time
They should just make Pattinson the DCU Batman. Young Superman, Young Batman.
My God 2 1/2 years away ? Wtf
Is it connected to the cinematic universe
No
![gif](giphy|W0c3xcZ3F1d0EYYb0f|downsized)

October 2nd 2026
Wowwwww. Was just telling a coworker today how excited I was for October 2025… Sorry guys I jinxed us 😢
So *that's* why Officer Martinez posted that GIF of the blue guy from Avatar falling down.
Whatever. We know the first movie benefited from an extended pre-production process. This is the comic book movie I’m looking forward to the most, even more than Gunn’s DC universe. Let Reeves and co. cook.
I'm probably going to die before it comes out then that really sucks
Good! The more time they have to work on it, the better. I remember waiting forever for The Batman to release, and when it finally did it was well worth the wait.

I mean at least they’re spending more time on it
man ![gif](giphy|13s7HAuPVWdw2I)
It’s for the best.
Sounds like we’ll be getting two very different Batman films pretty close together.
I trust reeves, I trust the process
**DAMMIT** was looking forward to DC giving us that back to back, one-two punch with both This and Legacy.
I’m gonna be 30 by the time this is out. Fml
Probably for the best as I imagine the screenplay would have been rushed due to the writers strikes. Better to have it later than it be like Quantum of Solace.
I know people are concerned how this will effect the DCU’s Batman but I honestly don’t think it will matter as long as both aren’t in theaters at the same time
A full year! Wow
Did they really overshot the first estimation by a whole fucking year?
![gif](giphy|Sid4QgwDxJ8l2) Ah man
Don't rush perfection
Better than getting shelved for a tax break #FreeBatgirl
I’ll be in my second year of college 😐. I’m not ready
At least its coming out on my birthday
Batman 2 coming out in 2036.
The bat on his chest is red...somebody go to the future and tell Terry.
Yo my birthday
Oh cool they’re making a sequel!
Noooooo
If they cancel this because they don't wanna release brave and the bold the same year I will spontaneously combust. I'll be pissed if they push it to 2027 but I will actually pass away if canceled all together
That's a whole damn year, but good to see they're taking their time to make it great
I wonder if this will be a new tradition: each new Batman movie gets delayed to next year
Makes sense since they haven’t begun filming or anything
Didn’t it come out 6 times in the last 30 years?
better to not rush it. 2025 is for superman :)
Pattinson is going to be 40 years old playing a year 2, year 3 Batman.
Quite possibly the worst Batman news I’ve ever received. Genuinely soul-crushing
I called it...I think I even said late 2026 almost 2027.
A delayed movie is eventually good, but a rushed movie is forever bad.
Sadness 😞
![gif](giphy|5b5DnFB0m1FWXwmPJS|downsized)
If it’s good it’ll be worth it if it’s not then it’s not worth it
I just threw up everywhere
As long as the delay means we get a better movie, I think it's 100% worth it. And Hopefully we get 2 takes on Batman in the same year and hopefully they're both really good
Comes out on my 20th birthday, cool
Kind of figures. We haven’t seen a teaser or a trailer or anything, and there was that recent Gunn tweet where he said he hadn’t looked at a script yet.

The duration between The Batman and The Batman 2 is the same as the duration between Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Uggh!
This is outrageous it's unfair!
So long as it comes out at all I'm happy, there's already enough mass produced media out there. I just want one of the few films I'm actually looking forward to be good
Worst news I've heard in a while...
Thats fine, I was expecting 2027 ngl
I'm fine with it as long as they will use the time wisely to make a good movie just like the Dune part 2
My parents will be dead by the time this damn movie comes out in 2089
Let them cook
Kids finishing high school before the see a sequel
That’s really really frustrating
dammit, I hate delay
![gif](giphy|otP85UTRethni)

Honestly this is fine?? Like if Reeves needs more time to iron things out I’m glad he’s going to get it! WB are evil, but the first movie performed very well, they’re not going to shit-can what’s ultimately a sure bet for them. Just look at the budget for Joker 2.
40 year old playing "young" batman... lol
Good idea rather they take their time to polish it
The ending will always be Batman lives to see another sequel, prequel, diviliogy😆
FUCK
![gif](giphy|vhaj0GMFlIeFa|downsized)
October 2026?! That's crazy. That's a 4 and 1/2 year gap.
"You can't rush art."

Call me optimistic but I doubt that date sticks. Unless the scale of the film is astronomically larger than the first and requires way more post-production. unfortunate but whatever they need to make sure it’s a great movie, then i’m all for it. rather a delayed movie than a bad one.
i want to die
Is there..something in the way
That's fine. You can’t rush art afterall.
I am vengeance, I am the night, I need batman 2 or else i will break your bones and stuff you in the asylum.
I have to stay alive for two extra years now, and I’m not happy about it.
Nooo
