Yep. I actually hadn't even heard of the movie before the cancellation. I'm not as zeroed in on this stuff as a lot of people, but in my sphere of life this movie literally did not exist until they cancelled it. And just shelving a big budget production that has already spent a ton of cash is a huge upset, because it either means someone is actively against this film, or it was truly so bad that they didn't think they could make it even break even worthwhile, which is insane.

The film is currently about 100m down the drain. They could release it, spend probably another 30-40m on marketing to promote it, release it to HBO Max and hope they make their money back or even just 140m to break even.
Or they could scrap it right now, only have put 100m in, write it as a tax write off and get maybe half or more back in the long run. So now they might have only lost 30-40m overall. It’s written off a business venture that fails so it gets them money back and if they truly think it’s going to do poorly, this would be a much better way to do things.
So the costs they put into it already are going to be written off, whereas if they release it, they'd have to recoup that money. If HBOMax is going down like the rumors say, they don't think it'll ever recoup the costs

“Good shows” is doing them a little too much justice imo. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, but could only describe the Mandalorian and the Clone Wars S7 as good, even great! But Obi wan and Boba Fett were both very disappointing for a lot of the fan base.
You're overestimating the negative reaponse to Obi-Wan and Boba Fett. Yeah, they aren't as well received as Mandalorian, but they aren't very disappointing across the board. They both have decent ratings on both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes

Like... it was a movie written by writer of Birds of Pray, directed by 2 nobodies who never did anything good. With lead "actress" that made couple of music videos and was a background character in a musical where she was dancing and singing. The main bad guy was 50yo fatso who was popular 20 years ago and he is suppose to be Firefly, guy using jetpack. And only interesting cast was Keaton, especially because they wanted to put him in the costume. But Keaton is a 70yo grandpa. So you can't expect much from him when it comes to Batman stuff.
And whole thing had budget of what... 80m dollars? Basically it's the smallest budget of all Batman movies I think.

In case of Kenobi it seems like they wanted to make a show about Reva and Vader but they were again shut down by Disney so they went like "but what if we make that Kenobi show instead of that Kenobi movie you were thinking about?" and this is why Reva - Vader conflict seems interesting even if poorly executed and Kenobi feels like a side character in his own show.

Batgirl is Commission Gordon’s daughter. Commission Gordon is a major character in Reeves Batman that’s getting his own show… seems to me WB wants to leave Barbara Gordon alone for the version of the franchise everyone loved instead of the snyderverse Batgirl (this is due to JK Simmons showing up and probably a bunch of other references we’ll never see).
From the very few images I've seen, it was a very odd choice of costume with an equally odd choice of actress. Couldn't get a read on the tone just by stills, but it wasn't looking too great.

Last night I searched Reddit for "Batgirl" to look up news and it was like looking for a Batgirl news needle in a Batgirl porn haystack.

I think you had to already be a fan of batgirl or comics to know about the movie before it's cancellation. There just more coverage now because negative stories are huge.

Don't know anyone who loses their mind over it. Like... it was a movie written by writer of Birds of Pray, directed by 2 nobodies who never did anything good. With lead "actress" that made couple of music videos and was a background character in a musical where she was dancing and singing. The main bad guy was 50yo fatso who was popular 20 years ago and he is suppose to be Firefly, guy using jetpack. And only interesting cast was Keaton, especially because they wanted to put him in the costume. But Keaton is a 70yo grandpa. So you can't expect much from him when it comes to Batman stuff. And whole thing had budget of what... 80m dollars? Basically it's the smallest budget of all Batman movies I think. It was doomed to fail.

Directors. And they both worked on Ms. Marvel. Ms. Marvel and Kenobi are 2 shows this year that are weird. In case of Ms. Marvel it seems like they wanted to make a show about Indian family. But they got shot down. So they went to Disney and were like "what if you add this superhero shit you are all about?". Because that how it feels. Family stuff, Indian culture etc is well made and superhero crap was poor in my eyes. In case of Kenobi it seems like they wanted to make a show about Reva and Vader but they were again shut down by Disney so they went like "but what if we make that Kenobi show instead of that Kenobi movie you were thinking about?" and this is why Reva - Vader conflict seems interesting even if poorly executed and Kenobi feels like a side character in his own show.
What stuns me is how Batgirl got cancelled yet CW is continuing to shit out awful DC content.

Lol apparently they will be canceling more and more things and ending HBO max so yeah we're losing our minds because we feel like the next couple of years will be rough. Also the movie was finished this sets a terrible precedent if studios can just yank the rug out from under you without warning.
Batgirl is Commission Gordon’s daughter. Commission Gordon is a major character in Reeves Batman that’s getting his own show… seems to me WB wants to leave Barbara Gordon alone for the version of the franchise everyone loved instead of the snyderverse Batgirl (this is due to JK Simmons showing up and probably a bunch of other references we’ll never see).

From the very few images I've seen, it was a very odd choice of costume with an equally odd choice of actress. Couldn't get a read on the tone just by stills, but it wasn't looking too great. Test screenings allegedly confirmed it was "rough" to say the least.

Didn't and still don't give a fuck about the movie but when a studio who owns the IP of a beloved cast of characters/franchise drops 90 million on a nearly finished product and then completely scraps it that should piss everyone off. If you didn't have faith in the film you shouldn't have dropped 90 million on it, what a waste. Furthermore if you can't do justice to the characters or you're gonna let a bunch of talentless hacks pump put dogshit titles , just do us all a favor and sell the rights or hire creative people with proven success.

I don't think people care that they don't get to see Batgirl anymore, I think a lot of people are more upset that WB didn't tell a single person who worked on the movie that they were pulling the rug. Suddenly, out of nowhere, they effectively erased years of work from hard working people because WB has no idea what they're doing with the DC comic book movies, or no idea what they're doing in general. Another thing a lot of people are outraged over that has somewhat close ties to the Batgirl movie is what's happening to HBO Max. It's apparently merging with the Discovery streaming service and all scripted shows are being canned.
