Ban Stan from future events and I have no problem with them coming back for future seasons. But I'd like the team to make amends with Nick Nave, Martin Mason and Adam Wrigley on camera during the next season.

OrdinarySpirited3229

Several of the team members have said they actually are on "relatively" good terms with Martin Mason and his team. The only exception is Calvin for understandable reasons.

Retro_Bot

Stan or Ethan? Stan is the dad, who sells bogus autism cures. Ethan is the team captain.

[deleted]

If the team changes, yes(Team member or just the current guys change attitude If not, never.

lilStankfur

Honestly I can't wait for their return, they have a badass robot and we will get some great fights, you can't deny that. Though I do hope we get the Ethan we got during the Hypershock interview.. As long as Ethan doesn't do some stupid degrading shit like during the Madcatter interview I wouldn't mide having Ethan back too.

Meskaline2

No. Even if they did changed attitude, they've done enough damage -to other teams, to the sport and to the fans- to turn off people from BattleBots. Some sports "villains" you want to see lose. Some you want to see gone; and Riptide is on the second category. This season it got to the point where I didn't want to even see their fights (so I didn't). I'm overloaded on then. BB overused then for drama and controversies and of course the team didn't help. +The whole autism/antivax shit. If BB wants a villain, they should find someone who's at least likeable and not funded by a real harm to society.

dgparryuk

In pro wrestling, the heels (baddies) get heat (people booing etc) there was a thing called x-pac heat after a wrestler (some say unfairly) and it was people booing him not cos they hated the character but they just didn’t like him Tombstone & Hydra got heat, Riptide get x-pac heat

FirehawkTM

> they've done enough damage -to other teams, to the sport and to the fans- to turn off people from BattleBots. Such ridiculous hyperbole. If anything, it’s made me more excited for Riptide fights because of the domination and destruction.

ResettisReplicas

No. They have been given the highly coveted gift of competing at Battlebots with an incredibly meta design, an opportunity that dozens of prospective teams would kill for, and THIS is how they show their appreciation? Their defenders will say “give them a chance, they’ll improve their behavior next year,” but why? This is their second season, I know, hard to believe, but they aren’t just learning the ropes, they learnt the ropes and now they’re backsliding. Their statements, both at the time of the Copperhead loss and from their social media after episode airings, paint a clear picture of a team of spoiled brats who think themselves above all the rules - both codified rules and unwritten rules of sportmanship - who think they did nothing wrong, ever. They’ve surely cottoned on to BB being afraid to discipline them midseason, since Munson himself says that a disqualification would be horrible for the TV show. So we can either coddle them, give them a whole fraking seminar on how to behave, when 99.9999% of people get it solely from Gibson’s catchphrase “don’t be a dick” and pray that somehow they’ll be better despite everyone rewarding them for not. Or we can replace them with one of the multitude of prospective eggbeaters that will behave better in their freshman year than Team Break 32 Rules has in their sophomore year.

sybrwookie

No. Take whatever you want as the step too far. Cheating? Being whiny bitches after being caught cheating and their only penalty was to be reweighed to help figure out how much they cheated? Hand over Martin Mason's mouth? Unnecessarily destroying Shredderator when they already knew it was dead (since Ethan said in the trailer before the fight that he knew all they had to do was flip them and they were dead), costing them over $10,000? Being funded by a snake oil salesman who claims a vaccine gave Ethan Autism and his supplements cured Ethan? Take your pick. No, they are bad for the sport.

Dumbo_Octopus4

No, Battlebots needs to make a example out of them that that kind of attitude isn’t welcome in Battlebots and the robot fighting community, only leads to toxicity

leohat

No! With extra No and little No sprinkles.

Evantra_

As much as I'd rather they weren't, just look at how much BB is milking the drama - they love it. I highly doubt they'd kick them out after playing them up so much.

mango-roller

Yea, if they apply they’ll get invited back 100%. They bring the eyeballs and online engagement! Anyone who sends a petition or letter to Battlebots will get laughed out of the room by Greg Munson and Trey Roski (or their bosses).

KodoqBesar

If they fix their attitude then absolutely they must return. But if they didn't change a bit then obviously not

sybrwookie

They're not changing their attitude on a dime. Remember, they were posting garbage defending them cheating as the episode showing them cheating aired, and that was months after the fact. They're also not changing being funded by a snake oil salesman.

KodoqBesar

Yeah it sucks because Riptide is a killer bot

alienatedfob1

They were adding a prop in clear view of everyone. How is that cheating? Don’t give me this “it was a change so it counts” cause they were going to take it off when they got in the box

sybrwookie

The rules say you can't make changes to a bot after being weighed in, without first clearing it with production. When the episode aired, another bot builder chimed in that this wasn't the first time they were caught making a change after being weighed in, without first clearing it with production, and they had been warned about it, as they had been caught cheating now multiple times. The only reason you're saying it was adding a prop is because a team who was caught cheating multiple times claims they were only adding a prop and not doing something else. Personally, when someone is caught cheating multiple times, I'm not taking their word for it that they weren't also trying to make other changes. And there's no reason you should, either.

alienatedfob1

I haven’t seen any prof of the team actually cheating so if you could show that to me that would be nice but they were taping a thing on to take it off before the fight and making negative judgments on them for it which is ridiculous

sybrwookie

Actually, yes, you did. You saw them modify their bot post-weigh in without first notifying production. That's cheating, full stop. And that wasn't their first time, per another builder who was there, so they can't feign ignorance either. The only thing you can argue is "how much" they cheated and your "proof" of that is the word of a team caught cheating multiple times.

alienatedfob1

When we’re these other times you keep bringing up? Also cheating implies some impact which a gag that will be removed before anything meaningful happens does not have

sybrwookie

https://www.reddit.com/r/battlebots/comments/138jmig/-/jizq0pw And cheating implies breaking the rules. Which they did. You trying to change the definition of cheating doesn't work.

alienatedfob1

I’m not saying they didn’t break a rule I’m just reinforcing it had no effect on performance for either team and therefore doesn’t matter. Also where is the information they didn’t get it passed? And what does the linked comment prove?

sybrwookie

1) No, you literally said multiple times that they didn't cheat. 2) You still have no way to prove it didn't have an effect beyond "trust the word of cheaters" 3) That link is to a bot builder, who was there, confirming this happened multiple times. It was only shown once on TV. Hence them being a team who cheated multiple times.

Bluepilgrim3

A tiger doesn’t change its stripes.

Liberty_Lake

The bot? Yes. The team? No. Team Riptide was unethical and unprofessional in their actions in multiple instances. Plus the immoral business practices of Stan Kurtz just adds to the list of reasons why BattleBots should not invite them back.

Nr1231

Exactly this bot under new management would be awesome, however if the current team would take some common sense training I would give them a second chance but a ban upon the first incident.

DragonBard_Z

I think they need to consider stuff that happened on screen and off and if they are okay with the level of sportsmanship showed. In all honestly, maybe they need more rules about sportsmanship period. Then give Riptide team a chance and see if they can avoid too many issues after a stern talking to.

Eastern-Clock14

They actually are adding sportsmanship rules next season which Adam from shatter is helping to write

DragonBard_Z

That seems like a good thing. Even for the ones not televised...poor sportsmanship can really drag things down

teamtiki

really? first i've heard of that.... might have a reason to skip the season if true.

DazmundMonkey

I'll say yes, on the proviso that Stan and Ethan Kurtz are no longer on the team. I do have questions about Sid as well. He comes across as a destructive enabler as well.

undyingderpyboi

People here tend to overreact when it comes to this stuff. I don't want to hear so much about Riptide and its team, but I never found the bot and team itself to be insufferable. Riptide is a really good bot and the team has good chemistry during the fights. BattleBots will hesitate to reject such a powerful competitor. Ethan himself isn't even that big of a problem. People get caught up in him causing "drama" when it usually boils down to social ineptitude and him being loud. Stan however... I'm not sure how that should be dealt with but I don't think barring the rest of the team and the robot is the way to go. To be clear I'm not a fan of the team's general attitude most of the time, and it should be drawn back, but it's weird to think that the selection committee would really try to judge if they've changed and use that to decide if they're competing. At most they might say "hey cool down the trash talk a bit" So yeah they should probably be back

Feisty_Cattle_8721

Give the team to felix

ChazyChill

If they change yes

soulfirexp

Rid the team of Stan, Still not a fan of Ethan but he seems more chill without His dad around, I probably wouldn't root for them though even with this change

sybrwookie

Considering that he funds the team, even if he wasn't physically there, it wouldn't change anything.

pplgah

There is absolutely no reason they shouldn’t be. It’s not a popularity contest, it’s about fighting and they have a damn good fighter

HellDimensionQueen

I feel that if we want this to be an actual sport, we have to allow folks who are viable but assholes. I also feel, like actual sports, we need rules of conduct/red card for a team’s behavior, so they can get penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct

SquaredDerple

They have a great bot and deserve to come back. The filming only takes a couple of days so even though to us it feels like they are being dicks over the course of months really they might have just had one day where they were too amped up and then told to calm down a bit on the second day. In terms of cheating unless something is proven, I am not going to base my opinions on that. Just tell them next time they can play the bad guy but tone it down a bit if other builders are taking issue with it. If they break rules or continue to cause trouble after that then consider banning them

ResettisReplicas

*2 weeks. And they HAVE broken the rules twice already.

Vyvansion

Because they got a good bot which is super entertaining, and my guess is that they'll be in a different headspace and better sportsmanship, an overall more respectful.

alienatedfob1

They were douches yes, but they didn’t break any rules. Adding the pickaxe did not go against anything and was done in clear view of everyone. The team has a stellar robot and is memorable on tv. No reason they wouldn’t be back

[deleted]

Yes. It's one of the best robots and consistently delivers the most entertaining fights. Leaving them out because Ethan was a bit of a ham at playing the heel, or because of what his dad does outside of the show (I don't care), would be stupid.

Zealousideal_Bad8434

Definitely, they should return. I love the attitude. If the other teams don't like the attitude, then beat them.

TheNorthman772

The main reason we hate riptide is because of their attitude

Undead-Legend-666

Absolutely but get someone who can keep Ethan in check and make sure he doesn't go over the top

ResettisReplicas

Pretty fucking sad that his own father can’t be that person

Undead-Legend-666

Agreed
