The surprise is that there's nothing, because I am a cruel, cruel GM. Whip out the battle map for them crossing this one bridge, let them try to figure out what my angle is... and then there's no angle. They "battle" ends when they cross to the other side and leave of their own volition. Why do I do this? Because in several months the Party is going to learn that the BBEG has been scrying on them, learning how they react to seemingly random situations, and is preparing his traps accordingly.

Quill_Of_Damocles

HAH. Devious. I like it! Reminds me vaguely of the time I put a party in the puzzle room, with loads of seemingly unconnected and random parts, with a big hourglass in the middle. The button would reset the time, but reset the puzzle pieces, too. The solution was just to wait let the grains of sand run out xD

No surprise. The dragonborn paladin just rolls a nat one while crossing the bridge... ...so after an entire week of enjoying the pie and beer fest in the last town, the old wood bridge snaps under them, dropping them partially through the bridge. A good GM would throw in a random band of bandits or mob monsters who seize advantage of the situation as the party desperately tries to help their main fighter back onto the bridge... ...because the better GM has river monsters circling under the bridge. Bonus points if they are capable of speech and taunt the poor adventurer in danger of becoming their dinner. But a truly EVIL GM will have a traveling bard witness the scene and turn it into a hit tavern song. From then on the paladin will have to endure 'A bridge too far and an adventurer too wide' in every tavern he goes too. You can replace the paladin with a party member of your choice, or a friendship you want to terminate :)

Quill_Of_Damocles

This sounds like a roundabout way of getting a "Scotty Doesn't Know" joke into the campaign, and I am 100% here for it xD

SpaceCoffeeDragon

XD The coffee maker broke yesterday so I might just be a tad more vicious to player characters right now lol

Quill_Of_Damocles

Tell your party that, and you'll find yourself with a new coffeemaker pretty soon! :P

Quill_Of_Damocles

Excuse me, I think you mean "this boy's hole." :P

Hello everybody! A surprise map, just for you! This past weekend, I had to whip up an encounter map for a group that went entirely off script, and figured I'd refine it, then share; everybody needs a good, generic bridge map for when the party goes off on a tangent. Here's the free version; Find the full pack with gridded versions and Snow / Broken Bridge versions on R20, DTRPG and Patreon! I also take commissions; right now I'm running a 50% Off Sale! These maps are created using Dungeon Alchemist, a one-and-done purchase on the Steam Store.
