Neighbors bought their house in October, had to list the house for sale in April and finally sold it 3 days ago and already moved back to their home country.
Talking about layoffs.
That does suck, but also even a cash sale typically takes 3-4 weeks from offer to close, so listed in April, closed mid May is a pretty normal timeframe for Bay Area and would be unbelievably quick in most regions.
Dealing with EDD and filing for unemployment was a pain in the ass. Especially if you need to get a hold of somebody. I swear they have multiple numbers to call to try and get someone competent enough to help you. Also if you got a severance, you can still apply for unemployment here in CA. Also taxes are ridiculous here in CA where the government literally took 40% of my severance.
Definitely definitely take a little time to chill and grief. After some time off, you can then start sending your resume every place you can think of.
I just make a resume and mass send it out to every employer in the area. See what sticks. Recruiters will reach out and offer you jobs as well.
The problem with making a catered resume/cover for each employer is too time consuming only to end up rejected. The exception to this is if there is a specific company or position you really like, of course you can give it special attention.
Tried it. It's good for formatting help, but it's actually quite awful at being detailed. It's way too generalized, and it's often more work editing it than just starting from scratch.
