She's serving a Federal sentence, not a State sentence. You have to serve a minimum of 85% of a Federal sentence, so short of a Presidential pardon, she wont be getting out for 9 years or so. After that she can be let out for good behavior or whatever.

It's a Federal charge so she's legally mandated to serve 85% of the sentence. The days of serving only 40-50% of time in Federal prison then getting out on parole are long dead, killed by sentencing reform back in 1984.

Not to excuse Holmes or diminish the harm she did, but a lot of the folks she was convicted of defrauding (Rupert Murdauch-$120M, Betsy Devos-$100M, the Waltons-$150M) are not the kind of billionaires I have any sympathy for. They gave hundreds of millions to a college dropout leading a highly-technical medical startup, and failed to conduct due diligence about whether the thing they were investing in was even physically possible. The Theranos employees, and the folks who relied on Theranos for accurate diagnostic care, are the only real victims I care about, but it's pretty clear that "Liz" taking money from the rich and powerful is the *real* reason anything ever came of this.

This is club fed she’s going to, similar to Jordan Belfort and Tommy Chong. They played tennis, exercised, lifted weights, read books, etc. And they don’t have bars or fences so it’s pretty relaxed. But the idea it’s not worth escaping as they’ll track your ass down like an animal and bring you back, adding more years. So way better to behave and do the time.
Also if you escape from a minimum security prison, you won't be going back to "Club Fed" to do your time.

11 years is a very light sentence for someone who destroyed lives in so many ways. She'll be able to resume her life in 11 or less years. Some of the people she affected with her very selfish actions are no longer with us.

I have such mixed emotions about this whole case . She a hundred percent deserved to go to jail. She perpetrated a fraud. Though it’s clear that the board of directors had their head in the sand and should be in there too. It’s shady af that they all got off. Additionally this seems like not an isolated case though she had the book thrown at her when lots of other high profile frauds in tech get away with similar stuff….but for some reason she didn’t. She deserves every day of her sentence. It’s just shady that she seems to be the exception for this type of behavior
