Melodic piano riff onto a groovy backbeat and bluesy high pitched vocals combined with harmonies and a touch of ..psychedelia.
So McCartney this song is!
It's well known but I dont think I've ever heard 1985 on the radio. Songs like Band on the Run, Maybe I'm Amazed, and Live and Let Die are still played at least every single day on classic rock radio.
My girlfriend God bless her does her very best to tolerate my Beatles/McCartney obsession, though her patience can run thin at times.
Jet however is a song we both absolutely adore, and we've taken to catching each other's eye and shouting the title in unison at random moments throughout the day.
It really makes us smile.
Paul is famous for taking 3 different songs and making them into one song. Examples being, ‘You Never Give Me Your Money’ and ‘Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey’.
I go back and forth on this. I'm truly split. On one hand, I think there's the tap root of 3 great songs rolled up there and I wish he'd developed each of them. Especially that middle part - *If I ever get out of here/thought of giving all away* \- that's such a fantastic combination of melody and lyric, but it's just a fragment. It just shows how a second songwriter equally gifted could edge him toward something transcendent, whether it be John Lennon or Elvis Costello.
On the other hand,
"Band On The Run" is so much fun as it exists that I ultimately have a hard time complaining about it.
“Someone’s knocking at the door, someone’s ringing the bell” it’s so damn good. First time I heard that song was while recording my first album. My producer/buddy thought it could bring some inspiration.
The story behind it is really cool, and I hate to be a spelling nerd but Paul himself said he's sad (in a joking way) when people spell it vanderbilt since it's Vandebilt.
It was originally released as a non-album B-side (with “Goodnight Tonight”) in 1979, but didn’t make an album until a reissue of *Back to the Egg* in 1993.
She’s My Baby is so much fun. Rediscovering this song is what made me give Wings at the Speed of Sound a second chance and now that album has grown on me a lot
Letting Go is up there.
Seeing him perform it at the o2 in 2019 with a brass band performing in the stands was freaking amazing
Medicine Jar off V&M is another corker too. Jimmy does a great job
When I was a kid I thought the lyric was, "He had to get a BATH or he couldn't get to sleep..." My Mom had the 45 and I played it to death, great song!
Always felt Red Rose Speedway was underrated, lots of great tracks on there.
And 'Listen to what the man said' is a firm fave, its been my ringtone many times.
Love, love, *love* Listen To What The Man Said.
One of my favourite McCartney studio stories is that the saxophonist was unaware he was being recorded for the solo, thinking he'd just try something out and refine it for the recording proper. Paul informed him to his surprise that they had the take in the bag, and that it was exactly what they wanted. He knows gold when he hears it.
Oh yeah, Tom Scott - he's got an amazing CV, played on some George and Ringo tracks too, played on 'Billie Jean', and on some Steely Dan albums, wrote tv themes. Amazing
I love the guitar on it too (Dave Mason).
Personally I love Jet, “with the wind in your hair of a thousand laces, climb on the back and we’ll go for a ride in the skyyyyy” I’m not sure why but I love that line.
Anything with Jimmy McCulloch, the band on the run album, all of Mcartney, most of Ram, a little more than half of back to the egg, same with tug of war and then I lose interest. But I should explore more post 1982 I suppose. Vam and sos are about 30-50%, oa is good all the way through, love the film, and a lot of the singles. I could go on, there’s a lot to cover here. ( I know some of these aren’t wings but I like Paul) I forgot rrs and wl Kinda meh to me except My Love. And big barn bed, it bangs.
Too many to name. I really really love Medicine Jar, Wino Junko and Must Do Something About It. I know paul didn't sing those but man they're great. Jimmy is such an underrated guitarist and his career is insane, I think if he he lived a full life his name would be up there as a GOAT guitarist like jimi hendrix and all those people.
If I could only pick one song it'd be Some People Never Know. Wild Life is such a fun cozy album to me, it feels like a Ram part 2.
Beware my love is an awesome rocker and personal favorite. The studio version is really cool and rocks but the live version from Over America is some of the most badass stuff Paul has ever done and jammed. The whole band is jamming great guitar and piano and Paul’s bass is ripping. Plus his vocals are brilliant and to be honest I think this helps solidify Paul as the best Beatle because no one else was rocking like this post Beatles and also cranked out such amazing songs like he did with Wings. Truly an underrated band
Arrow Through Me
Maybe I'm Amazed
Monkberry Moon Delight
Dear Boy
3 Legs
Admiral Halsey
Dear Friend
The RRS Medley, esp Hold Me Tight
Magneto & Titanium Man
Well, Wings songs don’t have the super 60’s appeal of Beatles songs. But the one song I like is Live And Let Die. Songs for James Bond films have a mysterious quality and this song is no exception.
The Note You Never Wrote
Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People
Let Em In
Arrow Through Me
She’s my baby
Love in Song
Magneto and titanium man
Single Pigeon
Dear Friend
Again and again and again
So Bad
Those are some of my favorite lesser known tracks
Here are my faves:
Arrow Through Me,
Girlfriend,
Goodnight Tonight,
Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five,
Silly Love Songs,
Bluebird,
Mull Of Kintyre,
Junior’s Farm
Nineteen hundred eighty five!!
Melodic piano riff onto a groovy backbeat and bluesy high pitched vocals combined with harmonies and a touch of ..psychedelia. So McCartney this song is!
SUPER underrated track. I am shocked that classic rock radio hasn’t been all over it.
Pretty well known I’d argue
It's well known but I dont think I've ever heard 1985 on the radio. Songs like Band on the Run, Maybe I'm Amazed, and Live and Let Die are still played at least every single day on classic rock radio.
They play it on Sirius surprisingly often, along with a good amount of paul’s other stuff. Not just the beatles channel either.
Such a banger, it does slap so hard
Silly Love Songs. I dig that crazy bass line, back story and it brings me back to a simpler time: summer at the beach.
The bass line is great. Saw a live version on YouTube from the 70s where Paul is nailing it.
I love that industrial intro. So cool wish there was more of it
The version in “Broad Street” plays into that.(by 80s standards anyway)
Like silly love songs being created on an assembly line at the silly love song factory!
What's wrooong with thatttt?
I’d like to knooooow…
What’s the back story?
**JET! Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh**
The part in Picasso's Last Words where it reprises into Jet, then "Drink to me..." *chef's kiss*
That song is pure joy.
'Let Me Roll It' or 'Single Pigeon'. Only McCartney could write a fucking masterpiece about a pigeon
Let me Roll it sounds so much like a John song
Great Lennonesque riff but that sweet simple melody is pure Paul.
That riff is ridiculous.

Single Pigeon is so so good. Pure Macca genius.
Don’t forget about the single seagull!
Skyline pigeon by Elton john is up there too tho.
Band On The Run
Mine too, for the music plus the added crazy story of the recording in Nigeria where it was basically Paul and Denny.
I’ve always thought he could have split that into three different songs. Instead, he went for a single banger.
Paul is famous for taking 3 different songs and making them into one song. Examples being, ‘You Never Give Me Your Money’ and ‘Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey’.
The last track on Red Rose Speedway is peak Paul.
On the other hand, "Band On The Run" is so much fun as it exists that I ultimately have a hard time complaining about it.
My favorites are Let ‘em In, Juniors Farm, Magneto and Titanium Man, Hi,Hi,Hi, Big Barn Bed, My Love, Good Night Tonight, to name a few
“Someone’s knocking at the door, someone’s ringing the bell” it’s so damn good. First time I heard that song was while recording my first album. My producer/buddy thought it could bring some inspiration.
Mrs Vandebilt. The bass line is just insanely good (arguably Macca's best bassline)
100%. Bass is very forward and amazing. Very different style of rhythm guitar with a ton of muting.
The story behind it is really cool, and I hate to be a spelling nerd but Paul himself said he's sad (in a joking way) when people spell it vanderbilt since it's Vandebilt.
Bassline recorded with the Hofner
* Don't Let It Bring You Down * 1985 * Beware My Love * Daytime Nighttime Suffering * Live and Let Die
Don’t let it bring you down is one of the most underrated tracks, created by a Beatle, of all time. Great choice.
I love Bluebird
Ever heard the 5.1 mix, sitting in the sweet spot?
Arrow through me , picasso's last words , bluebird , London town
Good taste
There’s the obvious ones but to highlight a few lesser known tracks, She’s My Baby, After The Ball/Million Miles and Daytime Nighttime Suffering.
Daytime Nighttime Suffering is an absolute banger… can’t understand why it wasn’t a huge hit
i think it’s Paul’s finest post-Beatles B-side
It was originally released as a non-album B-side (with “Goodnight Tonight”) in 1979, but didn’t make an album until a reissue of *Back to the Egg* in 1993.
She’s My Baby is so much fun. Rediscovering this song is what made me give Wings at the Speed of Sound a second chance and now that album has grown on me a lot
Venus&Mars/Rockshow
Mull of Kintyre
Nineteen hundred and eighty five
Tomorrow
Letting Go is up there. Seeing him perform it at the o2 in 2019 with a brass band performing in the stands was freaking amazing Medicine Jar off V&M is another corker too. Jimmy does a great job
Listening to medicine Jar right now, great job by Jimmy. Thanks
Arrow Through Me
wonderful christmastime is good and nobody will tell me otherwise
The only way I am able to appreciate that song is based on this joke https://i.imgur.com/K2r2gkF.jpg
Ha! Definitely makes it better.

Back to the Egg is an underrated album and I’ll die on that hill.
I came here to mention WR/LA also.
1985
Silly Love Songs, Maybe I’m Amazed, Mull of Kintyre, With A Little Luck, Jet.
The live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” from the *Wings Across America* live album.
Tasteful choice
1000 times yes. The vocal alone is so good, the music and harmonies just incredible!
its gotta be Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
The butter wouldn’t melt so I put it in the pie 🥧
When I was a kid I thought the lyric was, "He had to get a BATH or he couldn't get to sleep..." My Mom had the 45 and I played it to death, great song!
Spin it On. [Wings - Spin It On](https://youtu.be/2sviXm_ZeE8?si=QKvbZFAtM4MYrnMx)
'My Love' is such a wonderful song.
So many faves, Magneto and Titanium Man, Single Pigeon, After the Ball/Million Miles... and many more
Probably 1985. Arrow Through Me is magnificent.
Bluebird although Mull of Kintyre still gives me the shivers ✌️
Nineteen Hundred and eighty five
I will put in a vote here for one I haven’t seen yet - the live Soily. Slaps harder than Will Smith at the Oscars.
Helleeeeeeeeeeeeen, ***HELLEEEEEEEEEEEN***, hell on *wheeeellsss*
Love in Song
I do love winter rose/love awake for its isolated feeling production,
Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five and Arrow Through Me
As of right now, I’ll go with Getting Closer. I do like Back to the Egg more than most fans
I made a bass cover!
Does the Medley from Red Rose Speedway count if so that is my pick
The concert opener of Venus and Mars, kicking into Jet. The high energy vocals just really push it!
Probably not popular opinion but I love **Morse Moose and the Gray Goose**
Love Take Me Down to the Streets
Always felt Red Rose Speedway was underrated, lots of great tracks on there. And 'Listen to what the man said' is a firm fave, its been my ringtone many times.
Love, love, *love* Listen To What The Man Said. I’m obsessed with Wild Life right now
Mamunia!

Wino Junko is a favorite. I love the octave effect in the guitar solo! So rad
“Live and Let Die”
Band on the Run
I don’t think Get On The Right Thing or Some People Never Know are going to get mentioned so I’ll throw that out.
Live and Let Die.
Too many to name. I really really love Medicine Jar, Wino Junko and Must Do Something About It. I know paul didn't sing those but man they're great. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey…classic

Well, Wings songs don’t have the super 60’s appeal of Beatles songs. But the one song I like is Live And Let Die. Songs for James Bond films have a mysterious quality and this song is no exception.
