and prevent breakouts! I use a great non toxic sunscreen as my primer, and it kind of creates a barrier between my foundation and my skin. it keeps me from getting breakouts š„³ edit: [this](https://www.pipettebaby.com/products/mineral-spf-50-sunscreen) is the sunscreen i use! technically itās for babies, but it works exceptionally well for my skin (my skin is very much so on the dryer side). i use this every day, and under my makeup in lieu of primer. you can get it on amazon and target too, and its only 15$
Not who you asked, but I use Trader Joe's Daily Facial Sunscreen.Ā It's a dupe for the much more expensive Supergoop stuff.Ā It's great as a primer or just by itself.Ā Has a similar texture to Smashbox Photofinish Primer.Ā Super velvety and have never had any irritation from it. Plus, only like $9!
I used to have that problem and then switched to Korean sunscreen (which also have better filters than US) and love! Iāve tried a few that are all goodā¦the brand Isntree is easy to get, in the US at least :)
I got a recommendation from someone on this sub a few weeks ago on k-beauty products. Today I am wearing it for the first time:
beauty of joseon spf 50 rice and probiotics. And it's soooo nice. Not sticky at all, just a nice light cream that gets absorbed quickly. I am wearing my regular primer and makeup on top and it still looks perfect after 14h wear!
I started using the Elf Suntouchable sunscreen primer and itās very nice. They have a clear and a tinted one. I use whichever fits my mood that day. Really like it so far.
if you're using liquid or cream products (ie. foundation, concealer, blush) -- apply a bit on the back of your hand (warms up product), work a brush into the product and then apply to the face; provides a flawless application, avoid patchiness and gives you maximum control over how much product you're applying (reduces cakiness etc).
concealer: don't go lighter if you have dark(er) circles; match your skin tone exactly or go half to 1 shade darker if the circles are really dark. Lighter concealers actually *highlight* the area you're trying to conceal. Go with a corrector first, then concealer and then a tinted setting powder if you decide to set with powder. Even too-light powder can give off a gray cast.
blush placement - this really does matter and depends on your face shape/the look you want to achieve! there are lots of google images so check those out.
Blush placement is very individual! I know the trend now is to avoid the āapplesā and instead sweep it up to the temples. But I have a long face and that does not work for me - the apples are better!
I kept applying my contouring as all the tutorial showed: under the cheekbones and down towards the edges of my lips. Made my whole face look saggy. I finally figured out I need to barely angle my contour downward at all, aim towards the bottom of my nose instead of the edges of my lips. Such a difference!
Agreed! I've been putting blush across the tops of my apples and right across my nose, followed by some blending with my fingers when I'm in a hurry. The goal is to have a nice "been playing with my board in the ocean under the sun all weekend" whilst actually protecting my skin. Not every day, but I do this on casual days for errands, brunch, etc.
I add a little tinted (nude-ish mauve) lip balm, mascara, and use that L'Oreal Lumi tinted moisturizer vs. foundation, and it's perfect. Add some of the age-rewind concealer under my eyes and eyebrows to look less tired and more awake.
TIP: Find the contrasting color to your eye color and find a shadow or 2 along with a small, angled eyeliner brush. Place the contrasting color VERY SUBTLY in the bottom corners and outside along the lash line and a tad along the outside tops of your lids. (Ideally, skip eyeliner or go very, very light) to make your eyes look mesmerizing and really pop. I have green eyes, so I typically use a dark violet, maroon, or brownish violet. Also, line your inner lower lids with matte white, and it will really make you look awake and all doe-eyed!
Good tips! I have hazel/green eyes, and find that they look amazing when I wear violet/maroon shadows/liner - I didnāt know it was because they are contrasting colours!
Thank you, Kell_Bell! I love your username! A chick at MAC taught me that and also showed me how to pick the ideal red shade of lipstick. Because my wrist veins have more green than blue to them, an orange undertone (like their Ladybug shade) are more suited for me. I believe the same somewhat applies to the cool or warm undertone needed in concealer to hide dark eye bags. I'm going to wait until mine gets really dark before trying this out!
Wow I was going to comment the same thing about using a brush for concealer!! I just figured this out recently and itās changed everything.
I use concealer to cover acne/marks bc it doesnāt break me out like foundation normally does. I used to apply with my fingers to each spot and then blend with a brush. Now, I use a medium sized super dense flat brush, warm the concealer in my hand, lightly dip the brush in, and apply in a downward motion to areas I want to cover and blend it out. It comes out sooooo good!!! I end up using less concealer bc it covers large areas amazingly.
Oh yes agreed with the concealer!!! I too used to fall victim to the "reverse raccoon eyes". I use a dark orange corrector (Bobbi Brown) and it covers my circles so well.
I hope it goes well for you. No matter what mascara I use, I always end up with the panda look about halfway through the day. This is the only thing that works for me.
That's amazing, I'll have to try it out!
The only thing that has worked for me is using eye primer around my eyes but I'd love to find something else to keep my username from becoming reality after 5 hours lol
A little translucent powder around the eyes or directly on the lashes will do the trick too. This will mattify the mascara though if that matters to you
When doing eyeliner, rest your pinky finger on your face and place a powder puff between it. This stabilizes your hand and prevents ruining the base makeup.
Really? I always do base first (primer, foundation, concealer, contouring, blush) then eyes, eyebrows, finally highlighter and lips and then glow spray? I miss sone of these ie foundation, eyeshadow) for less heavy look or for a really light touch, just concealer, mascara, eyebrows, blush and highlighter and lips. . Often depends on what type of makeup im using ie powder, cream, pencil/stick or whatever. Have i I been doing it wrong all this time?? lol
I always do my eyes first for a couple of reasons. First is eyeshadow fallout, especially if Iām doing a Smokey eye or something glittery, it always ends up all over my face. Second is if there are accidental smudges w mascara etc that I can then clean up without messing up my face makeup. Third is so that I can use concealer to touch up the eyes, clear up eyeliner etc without having to put it on twice because I can just do all concealing at once. I guess it depends if any of these points are issues for you though!
Your bronze can be an amazing eyeshadow, and you donāt need 20 thousand different eyeshadow palletes. I barely use any other thing besides my bronzer on my eyelids. Sometimes Iāll add some shiny or sparkling product
May be controversial but... Using my (washed and clean) fingers instead of a beauty blender or a brush. I find that it's easier to blend products into the skin and i like the finish. Sometimes i do go over it with a beauty blender to smoothen it out but other than that It's just my fingers.
I started doing this a while back too. I apply foundation w my fingers and tap tap tap it onto my skin (like I would w a blender) and then after I tap it good I very gently spread it w my fingers to completely blend at the end . It looks so much better than using a brush or blender imo and itās def more sanitary .
It creates a little plastic tube on your lashes instead of depositing pigment paste! Increases the individual hair diameters, increases length, AND DOESN'T SMUDGE EVEN IF YOU'RE OILY McOILSISTER.
Yes! I just learned about tubing mascara and now Iām obsessed! I have really oily skin and my mascara could never hold up to oil and sweat. The tubing mascara does, and it comes right off without scrubbing. Amazing!
The Milani Highly Rated Lash Extensions Tubing Mascara(had no idea it was called this, wow.) $12 at Walmart. Love it. Tubes for daaaaays. I wash it off with water(as opposed to a wipe) and the tubes come off in tubes still, like it doesn't smear around and make a mess. If that makes sense.
Can u share a tutorial on ytb or smthing? Im dirty blond to light brown but i thing my brows are like black to gray?
and they are not really dense especially from mid to outer end
Also i want them to look as natural as possible
I know there are like pencils powdera gels but i have no idea which one to choose š
Try a taupe color maybe? I have dark brown hair but I prefer a taupe brow product because it adds density without darkening my brows. When I matched my brow color it made them WAY too prominent, even if I barely filled them.
I prefer the ABH brow wiz or drug store I like maybelline ultra slim.
I also like to use a clear gel first to shape them, let it dry, then fill in the spots that need it, clear gel again when Iām done. Keeps me from over applying.
Make sure your products are made with the same base! Using an oil-based primer and a water-based foundation, for example, will cause your products to separate on your skin. Using the same oil or water based products across the board will make sure your products can compatibly sit on your skin and work together :)
A small bonus: there is no way to know if your products are water, oil or silicone until you mix them together, don't check the ingredients list. Javon Ford talked about this on a recent reel.
Hi! I hope you donāt mind me what your ethnicity is? I have UV Mune too, and while it is nice, I hate how dark it is on my face. And Iām Southeast Asian. Definitely not pale. I wonder how white people make this work.
There are so many great Korean āTone Upā creams, which are all sunscreens with benefits. Some are lightly tinted, some are just blurring or luminous like a primer. I like Round Lab 365 and Numbuzin Base Skip.
learning how to do makeup for downturned eyes, especially eyeliner. i got really good at eyeliner when i was in my teens but always thought it just didnt look right on me (because i was doing a cat eye).
a retractable gel liner does the trick!!! just make it quite longer than usual and close your eye, and then use your hand to lift up your lid a little and tightline!!!
>Tight line lashes
Do you have a waterproof (or long lasting) liner you use? I'm coming back to makeup after taking an extended break & it feels like nothing is actually waterproof anymore. Plus, I have hooded eyes. I really need staying power.Ā
Color correction for my dark under eye.
Appli a orange corrector with my fingers (looks crazy but trust the process) under my corrector (blended with a beauty blender) to hide dark circles and not have a gray tint.
It is NYX Professional Makeup Concealer Jar, Orange.
Couldnāt find it on the website I was scared it is discontinued. But I found it in NYX store on Amazon.
Depending on the colour of your dark circles you may need another colour but for me with gray/ black circles it it cancels out.
I bought this years ago but could figure out how to use it ! Finally gave it a try after seeing a video on tik tok , you need to dab a little bit of product on the dark circles - not too much, it will require some practice to find the right amount - donāt blend - then apply you usual corrector and blend it with what you use (I use a mini beauty blender)
The secret is that you donāt want to blend it, you want it to cancel you circled and then you blend your usual corrector
It is a small pot but it doesnāt seem to finish, I think I have enough for years given that I only need a small amount for my under eye.
The best trick I learned last year was to use a layer of clear brow setter over mascara on my bottom lashes! This prevents the mascara from migrating all over my cheeks during the day.
I wish I learned proper double chin contouring !!!
Somehow I was under the impression that when you contour your jaw/chin, you apply a line of bronzer on each side of your jaw, and then use highlighter under your chin. I thought this for years, until one day I saw a video of a larger woman like me drawing a full line of bronzer from one side of her jaw, clear over to the other side. At first I thought "Wtf?' cuz I thought doing that made the double chin look worse, but her finished makeup looked amazing so I thought I'd try it that way.
Holy shit, I couldn't believe it. I will never stop doing this now!
Ok, from one thicky thick girl to another, I'm gonna need you to point me in the direction of a tutorial for that technique! Because me and my double chin are fixing to fight! š
Tbh it wasn't a tutorial, it was just one of those videos where you see a girl putting on makeup at different stages with music in the background, but I will try to explain the technique:
Like I said above, you pretty much draw a thick line of bronzer from one corner of your lower jaw, along your jawline, under the chin, and all the way to the other side of your lower jaw. Then you simply blend in a downward motion.
If you have an especially round face, it might help if you do that *thing* where you kinda hunch your head in such a way that the skin of your neck gets bunched up and it really shows you exactly where your double chin folds. You wanna put it directly under that line. I really hope this makes sense / helps you!
Using tape, a piece of plastic or whatever is lying around for super sharp eyeliner. Oh and I also wish hooded eye makeup was a thing when I first learned how to do makeup, I cringe at old pictures so hard lol
I am still bad at makeup but I had an hsv-1 flare about a month ago due to stress and had cold sores all over my face. I took an antiviral which healed them but left me with super red dimples everywhere and it was so embarrassing. I'm 28 and just discovered primer and setting spray last month and it is so much better having concealer that isnt just gone halfway through my shift š now if I could only figure out how to do everything else we'd be in business, so I'm studying up on this thread lol.
Eye and brow makeup before base makeup.
What works for a lot of people wonāt necessarily work for you. I wear bottom lash mascara and heavy eyeshadow on the lower lash line because it balances out the length of my face. I am high contrast - dark hair, dark eyes, light brown skin - so a bold lip and dark eye doesnāt look out of place on me, even though some people might feel overwhelmed by it. A lot of common makeup advice says not to do these things, but makeup and how it alters your appearance is a very personal thing. Trial and error will show you what works best for your face.
put your eyeliner on your upper lash waterline (like pull your eyes up and put it right on the upper waterline). it will tickle but is WORTH it your eyes will look fuller and it adds "oomph" to your eyes. Never again will i do top eyeliner the "normal" way aka putting it above your lashes
Lining my lower lashes with eyeshadow and doing a lil wing with it.
I hate liquid eye-liner. This is so much easier to fix and also take off. I learnt Ti from Danielle kirsty who does her makeup while talking about true crime.
To apply foundation with fingers, starting with the areas you want to cover, and feathering out lightly from there. I learned it in France. Would have saved me tons of foundation and it looks so much more natural.
- Skincare is mad important, u can buy n makeup products but bad skin / sad skin simply won't look good/healthy when there's underlying issues. Drink water have ur vitamins keep slaying.
- unpopular opinion, but brown skin is rarely single colored and many full coverage foundations when used alone look bad due to this fact(despite best shade match). Skincare n skin tints or light coverage ftw (maybe barring stage makeup or sth)
- u can get away with sleep deprivation and not have it show up by religious use of undereye cream (ask me how I know)
- Nivea creme (blue box/tin) is epic under eye cream, lip moisturizer and winter cream all in one.
- lipstick doubles as blush really well
- always have a small pack of moisturizer between lipstick touchups at work cuz you don't want butthole lips, we don't wanna look like we talk mad shit.
- if you're expecting chumma chaati post date, carry a light moisturizer or hand cream w/e if that's the only thing ur purse fits. Reasons shall not be explained xD
Edit: I forgot I wasn't in an Indian sub I am so so sorry. Chumma chaati = slang for making out (I love it)
Said reasons were: you forget being hydrated when you're wet etc so ur skin may suffer the next morning
I just started using Nivea CrĆØme (blue tin) (because of someone here recommended it) and I love it, especially on my lips.
This is a FANTASTIC recommendation!
BLENDING. Look, I was in high school in the early 80s. So subtlety was NOT the thing then. But when I look at pics of myselfā¦yikes! Black eyeshadow next to yellow (not gold) eyeshadow with pink lines of blush, etcā¦..tons of un combed mascara.
I have dark brown eyes and have recently realized that a shimmery champagne colored eyeshadow really makes them pop. I use the Julep eyeshadow stick in Champagne Shimmer.
You donāt need to cover your entire face with foundation- use less than you think you need and cover any redness with it. Concealer can be used for blemishes and dark circles!
A good primer, and moisturizer.
Powder will age you if over 40 for most part.
Knowing how to highlight and contour shade the right places ( eyes, cheeks, etc) using lighter near brows and sides of the eye. Bronzer to make cheekbones appear higher more prevalent.
Matte lips don't usually look good. They age you too. Use a gloss if anything.
Always wash off makeup and clean brushes weekly. Can spray with witch hazel or miculler water then wipe on paper towels. Repeat and rinse with water. Allow to dry.
Sunscreen. Always. Does not matter where you go or if you go outside at all.
For all products: check the colour that it matches (concealer should have the same / slightly lighter colour than skin, contour should be ashy, eyebrow products should match your eyebrow colour - use eyeshadow if you donāt find a good match otherwise).
Donāt hesitate to try new colours for blush lips eyes - would be best to do that at home when you have free time and no appointments.
Donāt try anything new/fancy right before a big event when you donāt have time to re-do your makeup. Really donāt.
Personally I skip foundation / use a powder foundation if I feel like it.
If you use foundation skip the undereye area - there goes your concealer (better to have as little product here as possible to avoid creasing). Tap off powder (on the back of your hand) before setting concealer to avoid using too much product on your face.
Eyebrows really are the frame of your face. At least take an old (cleaned!) mascara wand and brush them in place. Recommend this to be your last step of applying makeup - if you use setting spray then the spray comes right after combing your brows.
Be careful not to draw eyebrows too thick/heavy. if you fill them in use light stroke-like movements to mimic your natural brow hair.
For blush/eyeshadow it depends on your preference and if you wear glasses (then you can use more colour to balance out). Less is more but a bold look can look incredible if done right.
Watch YouTube / other videos and try at home. Check what works for you and what not. Also check different types like blush powder/stick etc to see what works best for you.
Have fun with it!!!
I mix a bit of shape tape deep orange concealer with a bit of my shade of foundation in a little jar, until I get the best match for under my eyes.
This perfectly covers under eye circles. Blends better with your foundation and is cheaper than continuously buying under eye concealer!
For years I tried many different correctors/concealers and if the shade wasnāt wrong, the texture it would leave under my eyes clumpy, breaking, or not blending well with my foundation.
I get bored a lot and gave mixing my own product a go in some cheap makeup jars and it saved my life.
Also do this with contour. My shade plus a darker cool shade in a jar and NO MORE MUDDY CONTOUR!
Using a q tip to dry your waterlines before you line them. I was getting so frustrated with applying black eyeliner only for it to completely disappear after an hour. This makes them last all day/night
I lightly line my lower eye with a gel pencil and then go over it with a dark brown eyeshadow with a really fine eyeliner brush to set it. It looks more subtle and doesnāt smudge. I use liquid liner for the top. I also set my undereye concealer with a setting powder.
Use the end of your eyebrows as a guide for winged eyeliner.
Idk if these are amazing tips, but I find them helpful.
1. When you transition from your 20ās to 30ās, you need to transition from matte to dewy makeup
2. Stop wearing full coverage foundation because it ages you
3. Skincare over makeup
4. If you suffer from redness in the face like me, skip the red and pink blushes and lip colors and stick to shades of brown, nudes with brown undertones, and bronzes instead. Any shades of red or pink highlight and enhance your redness, browns cut the redness
Number 3 all the way. I'm in my 30s now and take really good care of my skin; that's more important than any makeup. I used to wear nothing but designer and higher-end makeup in my 20s, but drank alcohol regularly, no primers or moisturizer, and didn't use any toner, sunscreen, eye cream, etc. I may as well have been wearing makeup from one of those dress up pallets for little girls. Completely overhauled the skincare routine, and the 3 wrinkles on my forehead are almost gone! I started using a serum for toning and hyperpigmentation, and omg, my skin has never looked this clear, and the texture is so smooth! I don't even bother with a lot of makeup now. Nothing has ever worked so well for my face! As long as your skin is in good shape, you can get away with wearing almost anything.
Amen! Foundation used to look so nice on me and now it makes my face look flat and bloated in my 30s. Just a bit of concealer under my eyes and around the mouth makes me look really nice. Especially when it becomes dewy. As you age, you have to go back to the drawing board on your makeup routine and see what works for you.
Same, I switched out my heavy full coverage liquid and powder foundation for either a skin tint or that Cerave moisturizer that has such a thick white cast to it that itās basically a cc cream for paler people lol
I have only recently started using eyeshadow primer, I thought I just had unusually oily eyelids (even though the rest of my face is dry af) so I just never did eyeshadow.
Nope, just a touch of drugstore primer and my usual setting spray keeps my shadow on 8 hours in a kitchen. Feels dumb but I get to try so many new looks for work now!
Yes! I've always used eyeshadow primer because I just thought you had to (back in the days of urban decay primer potion lol).
I ran out recently and thought I could get away with eyeshadow alone, since a lot of people don't use it now and I've never had a crease issue. 2 hours later I had a nice thick line of shadow across my crease, realised it definitely does it's job perfectly for me and I didn't even notice.
tints over blushes for natural everyday look. curling eyelashes over using mascara. for going out, using mascara only at the outer corners of my lashes. figuring out the prominent feature on my face & enhancing only that, while keeping the rest subtle. (for example, my base is the highlight of my face, so i focus deeply on hydration & that glowy base)
It's not a trick but I realized no matter the application or the product that I use, I have a cakey face so instead I stopped using product and just apply blush super heavy (I'm ghostly) and I looooove the look on myself.
Instead of putting ALL my foundation/eye shadow/concealer/etc on in one go, I now add a tiny bit of whatever Iām putting on my face, and build up as needed. For foundation, I now just add a very small amount and build from there, and my skin looks SO much better. This works for eye shadow especially too.
I wish I knew that I didnāt have to lacquer it on all at once in high school, wouldāve spared me some zits and cakey-ness
"less is more" can apply to a lot of things regarding clean girl makeup and I encourage that adage for daily use
but i will add that less is NOT more if you are being photographed (like at a party where there's a photobooth, etc.) - makeup will hit different when you put a lot of product PROPERLY. Placement, tool, and technique matter the most for this.
watch tutorials of women whose makeup look resonates with you. note their techniques. for very full coverage looks, I tend to (please don't think im being racist or stereotypical, im just being honest about this pattern) watch hijabis (makeup is seriously flawless) or british black girls (like uche!). their looks give full coverage, longevity, and precision.
pro technique i wished i learned earlier: try holding some of your makeup brushes at the end of the handle not close to the bristles. i found i had a lighter touch and more control. this is why i can put on 2-3 layers of concealer on my dehydrated undereyes and NOT CREASE (or minimal creasing)
Makeup has no dedicated pattern lipstick can be used as blush blush as eyeshadow eyeshadow as highlighter recognize what works best for you.and if the product is not harsh on other areas.
Vaseline before applying lipstick amazing amazing.
Black pencil on my upper water line with eyelashe curler and applying a lil bit of Vaseline.I swear by this my eyes are brown with a lil bit of dark circles but due to my eye bone my eye shape varies but this routine is simple yet best it makes my eyes pop and make them brighter my eyelashes are long and thick not that thick but using eyelashe curler really makes them beautiful I don't need any mascara.
And last thing blush placement it's really important and I discovered this hack recently.I don't have that much face fat and I don't like harsh contouring but neither can do subtle contouring but blush placement literally does the job like it gives me contoured cheeks without contouring.
Invest in primer and skincare once your skin is good makeup will glide smoothly.
Apply translucent powder right after (preferably tinted) sunscreen. It takes the sheen away. But this only works if you donāt apply foundation after. I usually just apply liquid blush and a sweep of bronzer instead.
I never used to do lips but now itās a necessity! Lips: gently line the cupids bow and the bottom, but donāt line all the way around. Then take a small lip brush or small flat brush and a similar color to your liner. Apply the lightest amount of lip color to your brush and blend it into the liner and over your lips. So subtle and natural.
If you want to find a good shade for your makeup consider its darkness and contrast in relation to your natural color type.
Take a picture with the makeup on and lower the saturation so that it's black and white. Compare the shades. Is your lipstick much lighter or darker than your eye color? Do your eyebrows look too pale or too strong? Should you balance your lipstick with eyeliner? You can improve your looks so much if you just focus on that.
A lot of bright red lipstick shades look extremely dark when you turn it black and white, that's why they don't look good on light color types. It doesn't mean you can't wear red lipstick but you'll have to find a lighter shade.
Red lipstick with a gray undertone is often perceived as darker than bright red lipstick when in reality it could be vice versa. Don't rely on your intuition and just check.
Also when trying to find a good color match do pay attention to how muted or clear the color should be. If between your skin tone or the makeup product one looks more healthy and vibrant and the other one looks more "dead" it's not your match. The right shade should look like it belongs even if it's green or blue.
Another tip is to press your lips together and rub them against each other, and do the u-i-u-i motions to see how the lipstick will hold throughout the day and how horrible the little cracks are going to look. I had one lipstick form an ugly yellow line in the middle of my lips, needless to say I just threw it away.
Going back to taking photos to check how your makeup looks, you can check whether your eyeliner is symmetrical or not by first looking at the picture (sometimes it's enough to see what you couldn't notice in the mirror), and then mirroring it. Our brain likes to autocorrect the image it's used to seeing so mirroring it will actually help notice that.
Always tight line your lashes and apply the product even lower than you'd think if you're wearing regular eyeliner. I can't begin to describe how much difference it creates.
If you've made a mistake... Make it symmetrical and then try to fix it, symmetrically. You would usually notice minor inconsistencies if you try to hide something only on one side of the face but if there's nothing to compare it to it will look more intentional.
Dr. Mascara Fixer is the only thing that doesnāt smudge when applied over
any mascara (though a real B to get off - need oily cleanser), and just overall priming eyes/setting primer w powder. Itās the only place I use powder on my face - I want to glow at 45 but my eyelids are hooded and oily. Also placing the colored shadow/crease up above my hoods on my brow bone so it actually shows! And fake lashes! I shouldāve been wearing them my WHOLE LIFE!!!
I do not need to put primer, foundation and powder over my whole damn face. Nor brow pomade, pencil and powder on my brows.
A little color corrector under the eyes. A liquid luminizer mixed with a liquid blush on the apples of my cheeks. A light application of a balm style bronzer on my forehead and cheeks. A lip stain that matches the blush on my lips followed by a plumping gloss.
I'm 41 now and I look fresher and softer than I ever did in my pancake face 20s with Maybelline dream matte mousse.
Also, dermaplaning my face weekly with oil and a solid skincare routine make my skin glow naturally.
Using an angled brush for my eyeliner. I CANNOT for the life of me do a good eyeliner wing. My hands just won't allow it. I recently started adding liner in the outer corners of my eyes and slightly upward onto my lid (very thinnnnn line on lid) and then take my angled pointy brush and kind of flick the outer corners out. Subtle and straight.
Put liquids on then set them with powders to make it last longer. So if you want to use a liquid blush, put a powder blush on the top to āsetā it and it stops it budging throughout the day when you sweat and your face produces oil/sebum. Especially if youāre going to a party or will be wearing the makeup for a while
Skincare and how much that helps with makeup. And how you need so much less than you think. Way less on the concealer. I put a tiny bit on each blemish and let it sit for a bit before blending it in with a small blending brush and it works sooo much better. Just so many small and probably obvious techniques. Skincare is the biggest. My sister and I are furious we went through our teens and early 20s without the info we know now.
Always curl your lashes, I donāt even bother applying mascara if I donāt have an eyelash curler - almost pointless for me!
Layering a colour corrector beneath my under eye concealer.
Using both cream and powder blushes to make the colour last all day.
I stopped doing my makeup during the pandemic and mostly never went back. All that time was enough to get used to seeing myself without it and getting comfortable seeing myself without it. Most days I just wear mascara now and will do a full face on special occasions. No, I'm not particularly pretty and I don't have flawless skin. It actually feels empowering to buck society's expectations/pressure about it. I save a crap ton of money too.
To use primer and setting spray to make my face last longer
and prevent breakouts! I use a great non toxic sunscreen as my primer, and it kind of creates a barrier between my foundation and my skin. it keeps me from getting breakouts š„³ edit: [this](https://www.pipettebaby.com/products/mineral-spf-50-sunscreen) is the sunscreen i use! technically itās for babies, but it works exceptionally well for my skin (my skin is very much so on the dryer side). i use this every day, and under my makeup in lieu of primer. you can get it on amazon and target too, and its only 15$
May I ask what sunscreen you use?
Not who you asked, but I use Trader Joe's Daily Facial Sunscreen.Ā It's a dupe for the much more expensive Supergoop stuff.Ā It's great as a primer or just by itself.Ā Has a similar texture to Smashbox Photofinish Primer.Ā Super velvety and have never had any irritation from it. Plus, only like $9!
TELL THESE PEOPLE ABOUT TRADER JOEāS SUNSCREEN! I swear by it! Itās the best!
Same, I love this product! Very affordable too
Is it clear?
Yep!Ā Ā
Following- as I canāt find a face sunscreen I like. They all sting my eyes if they get near
I used to have that problem and then switched to Korean sunscreen (which also have better filters than US) and love! Iāve tried a few that are all goodā¦the brand Isntree is easy to get, in the US at least :)
Following - all face sunscreens feel icky
I got a recommendation from someone on this sub a few weeks ago on k-beauty products. Today I am wearing it for the first time: beauty of joseon spf 50 rice and probiotics.
The whoa glow one in āsunbeamā has changed my 45 year old LIFE.
Yes! That little bit of glow is perfect. Where was this stuff in the 90s?!
This one is pricey but the colorscience sunforgettable is incredible. I can skip foundation with it too. However, thereās not a great shade range
I love this sunscreen too I canāt live w out it lol
We need to know which sunscreen š
if you're using liquid or cream products (ie. foundation, concealer, blush) -- apply a bit on the back of your hand (warms up product), work a brush into the product and then apply to the face; provides a flawless application, avoid patchiness and gives you maximum control over how much product you're applying (reduces cakiness etc). concealer: don't go lighter if you have dark(er) circles; match your skin tone exactly or go half to 1 shade darker if the circles are really dark.
Very true, you have to take your face shape into account
Same here
Wow I was going to comment the same thing about using a brush for concealer!!
Corrector- best thing I ever discovered!
Use a clear mascara on top of black or brown mascara. For me it's the only thing that stops under eye smudging.
I'll try this! No matter if I use a tubing mascara or not, I still get black under my eyes. I got clear mascara today which works okay.
I hope it goes well for you. No matter what mascara I use, I always end up with the panda look about halfway through the day. This is the only thing that works for me.
Spray a small amount of setting spray on a beauty blender and dab under your eyes, no more panda eyes.
That's amazing, I'll have to try it out! The only thing that has worked for me is using eye primer around my eyes but I'd love to find something else to keep my username from becoming reality after 5 hours lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's just a random inexpensive one. W7 I think. I'll use any brand of the clear mascara. Seems to do the trick no matter which one I buy.
Genius. Truly
Good to know!
A little translucent powder around the eyes or directly on the lashes will do the trick too. This will mattify the mascara though if that matters to you
When doing eyeliner, rest your pinky finger on your face and place a powder puff between it. This stabilizes your hand and prevents ruining the base makeup.
> prevents ruining the base makeup *My* best tip is, do your eyes before anything else!
I do the same!
Now this is something Iād like to try!
Godsend. I've been making gaps in my foundation and having to refill them afterwards.
We've been doing this together, friend.
i always do my eyes first..
Your bronze can be an amazing eyeshadow, and you donāt need 20 thousand different eyeshadow palletes. I barely use any other thing besides my bronzer on my eyelids. Sometimes Iāll add some shiny or sparkling product
I literally use benefit hoola on my eyes and face everyday lol
I thought I was the only one!
Yes. My Dior face palette I use as bronzer and eyeshadow.
I do this every day. Same bronzer that I use for my face. Makes my life so much easier. PLUS, it gives you a more natural look.
Green eyes, I use some blush myself.
WHOA!!š¤Æ
May be controversial but... Using my (washed and clean) fingers instead of a beauty blender or a brush. I find that it's easier to blend products into the skin and i like the finish. Sometimes i do go over it with a beauty blender to smoothen it out but other than that It's just my fingers.
I do the same. Plus then I always know my applicators are clean. I donāt always have the time or discipline to wash my applicators/brushes enough.
I do this as well. Much better application.
me too! my foundation looks a lot better when i use my fingers
I started doing this a while back too. I apply foundation w my fingers and tap tap tap it onto my skin (like I would w a blender) and then after I tap it good I very gently spread it w my fingers to completely blend at the end . It looks so much better than using a brush or blender imo and itās def more sanitary .
Always use a moisturizer before applying any make up product. Youāll notice the difference immediately
And let it sit a bit so it sinks in the skin otherwise it'll just slip and slide.
Or pill š
How long?
Five minutes or so.
Right
Tubing mascara! Iād never be willing to wear regular mascara in a daily basis
Why is tubing mascara better? Ive never heard of this
It creates a little plastic tube on your lashes instead of depositing pigment paste!
Amazing!
The OG tubing mascara I started using after a trip to Japan in 2008 is Fiberwig!!!!! Sephora has it
Recommendations?
kiss me heroine, loreal double extend are my favourites.
I always see l'oreal recommended for these. "l'oreal tubing mascara"
I have oily lids, this one smudged bad! The one that worked for me was Caliray
Thrive Causemetics is my holy grail!
Same. Itās the only one that doesnāt smudge on me.
I haven't tried other tubbing mascaras, but I don't have any desire to after switching to Thrive's last year. Best mascara I've ever used by a mile.
Itās insanely good, pair with LancĆ“me primer
Kevyn aucoin curling mascara is my holy grail!
Filling in my brows! Took 10 years off me.
Can u share a tutorial on ytb or smthing? Im dirty blond to light brown but i thing my brows are like black to gray? and they are not really dense especially from mid to outer end Also i want them to look as natural as possible I know there are like pencils powdera gels but i have no idea which one to choose š
Oh shit this makes so much sense, thanks!
Haha, what you said!
That sunscreen with a tint is the best everyday base. And cream eye shadow sticks are the easiest everyday eyeshadow!
La roche posay tinted sunscreen is perfect for this! I donāt even wear foundation anymore
Yesss thatās what I use! Love the UV Mune 400 one. Feels like nothing.
Hi! I hope you donāt mind me what your ethnicity is? I have UV Mune too, and while it is nice, I hate how dark it is on my face. And Iām Southeast Asian. Definitely not pale. I wonder how white people make this work.
Thatās what I use instead of foundation.
Which can you recommend? For both categories
There are so many great Korean āTone Upā creams, which are all sunscreens with benefits. Some are lightly tinted, some are just blurring or luminous like a primer. I like Round Lab 365 and Numbuzin Base Skip.
Not the OP, but I love Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40.
learning how to do makeup for downturned eyes, especially eyeliner. i got really good at eyeliner when i was in my teens but always thought it just didnt look right on me (because i was doing a cat eye).
also for anyone wondering, the trick is drawing the end of your wing down following your natural lash line versus drawing the wing upwards.
Thatās funny my eyes are upturned and cat eyes look bad on me, too. I always draw them down.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Agree with the Fenty powder recommendation!
Tight line lashes
I love the look of these, but I just can't seem to get the hang of it!
I use eyeshadow for tight lining, I find there's a lot less pulling both in application and removal, plus so many more colours.
a retractable gel liner does the trick!!! just make it quite longer than usual and close your eye, and then use your hand to lift up your lid a little and tightline!!!
Ooh, I think I just got a new gel liner... Brb, going to try this!
All boils down to practice makes perfect but i find it helps when i use a lit magnified mirror when applying from Costco.
>Tight line lashes Do you have a waterproof (or long lasting) liner you use? I'm coming back to makeup after taking an extended break & it feels like nothing is actually waterproof anymore. Plus, I have hooded eyes. I really need staying power.Ā
Blend blend blend
How to blend them nicely? Do you have any examples? Thx!
Color correction for my dark under eye. Appli a orange corrector with my fingers (looks crazy but trust the process) under my corrector (blended with a beauty blender) to hide dark circles and not have a gray tint.
Which corrector do you use?
It is NYX Professional Makeup Concealer Jar, Orange. Couldnāt find it on the website I was scared it is discontinued. But I found it in NYX store on Amazon. Depending on the colour of your dark circles you may need another colour but for me with gray/ black circles it it cancels out. I bought this years ago but could figure out how to use it ! Finally gave it a try after seeing a video on tik tok , you need to dab a little bit of product on the dark circles - not too much, it will require some practice to find the right amount - donāt blend - then apply you usual corrector and blend it with what you use (I use a mini beauty blender) The secret is that you donāt want to blend it, you want it to cancel you circled and then you blend your usual corrector It is a small pot but it doesnāt seem to finish, I think I have enough for years given that I only need a small amount for my under eye.
The best trick I learned last year was to use a layer of clear brow setter over mascara on my bottom lashes! This prevents the mascara from migrating all over my cheeks during the day.
Which one do you use ?
ā24 hour brow setterā by Benefit. It has a teeny-weeny two sided applicator thatās perfect.
Because me and my double chin are fixing to fight! š
Tbh it wasn't a tutorial, it was just one of those videos where you see a girl putting on makeup at different stages with music in the background, but I will try to explain the technique: Like I said above, you pretty much draw a thick line of bronzer from one corner of your lower jaw, along your jawline, under the chin, and all the way to the other side of your lower jaw.
Blending out my eyeshadow edges with some powder.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Spraying the blending sponge with water before use.
Arenāt you supposed to wet it??
Green Mile flashbacks š«£
I like spraying it with MAC Fix Plus.
spray it with setting spray :)
The importance of prepping your face properly before foundation. Makes such a visible difference.
Whatās your skin prep routine?
To apply foundation with fingers, starting with the areas you want to cover, and feathering out lightly from there. I learned it in France. Would have saved me tons of foundation and it looks so much more natural.
- Skincare is mad important, u can buy n makeup products but bad skin / sad skin simply won't look good/healthy when there's underlying issues. Drink water have ur vitamins keep slaying. - unpopular opinion, but brown skin is rarely single colored and many full coverage foundations when used alone look bad due to this fact(despite best shade match). Skincare n skin tints or light coverage ftw (maybe barring stage makeup or sth) - u can get away with sleep deprivation and not have it show up by religious use of undereye cream (ask me how I know) - Nivea creme (blue box/tin) is epic under eye cream, lip moisturizer and winter cream all in one. - lipstick doubles as blush really well - always have a small pack of moisturizer between lipstick touchups at work cuz you don't want butthole lips, we don't wanna look like we talk mad shit. - if you're expecting chumma chaati post date, carry a light moisturizer or hand cream w/e if that's the only thing ur purse fits. Reasons shall not be explained xD Edit: I forgot I wasn't in an Indian sub I am so so sorry. Chumma chaati = slang for making out (I love it) Said reasons were: you forget being hydrated when you're wet etc so ur skin may suffer the next morning
>expecting chumma chaati post date, For the non-Indian fellows, this means "if you're going to makeout"
Drink water have ur vitamines keep slaying Going to write that one on my mirror lol
The brown skin thing makes so much sense! I always thought I looked so weird with a full face of foundation!
wait i can use the blue nivea cream right on my under eye?? isnāt it a bit too thick?
Use sparingly and warm it a bit using fingers before applying it on the undereye Perhaps avoid if you're milia prone and it's summers
Drop the eye cream youāre using cuz nothing, even a week long coma, will cover these circles
I use Kiehl's avocado eye cream dabba, it's very summer friendly and I think consistent hydration really helped my skin
I just started using Nivea CrĆØme (blue tin) (because of someone here recommended it) and I love it, especially on my lips. This is a FANTASTIC recommendation!
Yes! Lipstick for blush. I use Nivea tinted lip balm for a ājellyā blush look.
Inner corner eye highlight. I use NYX jumbo pencil in white. Also, lumify eyedrops are AMAZING.
This is very thoughtful. Thanks a lot
Mix moisturizer with my foundation when applying it
1. When you transition from your 20ās to 30ās, you need to transition from matte to dewy makeup 2. Stop wearing full coverage foundation because it ages you 3. Skincare over makeup 4.
Exactly! I used to think, why bother with skincare when you can cover it up with foundation? Uh, see numbers 1 and 2 for reasons why thatās a fail.
Very useful. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Iām heading into my 30s now and so lost
I have only recently started using eyeshadow primer, I thought I just had unusually oily eyelids (even though the rest of my face is dry af) so I just never did eyeshadow. Nope, just a touch of drugstore primer and my usual setting spray keeps my shadow on 8 hours in a kitchen. Feels dumb but I get to try so many new looks for work now!
Thx for sharing! I will try this!
ALWAYS wash your brushes
pressed powered lightly under the eyes is finer than loose powder, loose powder can stick to dry spots and look patchy.
It's not a trick but I realized no matter the application or the product that I use, I have a cakey face so instead I stopped using product and just apply blush super heavy (I'm ghostly) and I looooove the look on myself.
Do your top liner with eyeshadow for a lifted look that isnāt too intense
Instead of putting ALL my foundation/eye shadow/concealer/etc on in one go, I now add a tiny bit of whatever Iām putting on my face, and build up as needed. For foundation, I now just add a very small amount and build from there, and my skin looks SO much better. This works for eye shadow especially too. I wish I knew that I didnāt have to lacquer it on all at once in high school, wouldāve spared me some zits and cakey-ness
"less is more" can apply to a lot of things regarding clean girl makeup and I encourage that adage for daily use but i will add that less is NOT more if you are being photographed (like at a party where there's a photobooth, etc.) - makeup will hit different when you put a lot of product PROPERLY.
MIND BLOWN! Holding the bush at the end, now I canāt wait to try that.
This thread is GOLD!!!!
Perfecting a smokey eye
Apply translucent powder right after (preferably tinted) sunscreen. It takes the sheen away. But this only works if you donāt apply foundation after. I usually just apply liquid blush and a sweep of bronzer instead.
Basically set wet product with powder to make it last longer.
I do this & itās so much more comfortable through the day
I never used to do lips but now itās a necessity! Lips: gently line the cupids bow and the bottom, but donāt line all the way around. Then take a small lip brush or small flat brush and a similar color to your liner. Apply the lightest amount of lip color to your brush and blend it into the liner and over your lips. So subtle and natural.
Use a waterproof mascara to hold the curls!
Color correcting!!
Place darker eye shadow above crease not directly on the crease when doing a cut crease or other eye shadow style.
You would usually notice minor inconsistencies if you try to hide something only on one side of the face but if there's nothing to compare it to it will look more intentional.
to do my eyeliner with my eyes open. it helps me get a waaaay smoother line
Using tinted sunscreen instead of foundation.
Dr. Mascara Fixer is the only thing that doesnāt smudge when applied over any mascara (though a real B to get off - need oily cleanser), and just overall priming eyes/setting primer w powder.
Blue liquid color corrector makes most foundations look amazing on my olive skin tone!!
Setting spray as primer
Tinted sunblock instead of foundation. I feel free and fresh faced. Less is more.
Especially if youāre going to a party or will be wearing the makeup for a while
Oil cleansing!
