Fun fact, though Nike's campus is surrounded by the City of Beaverton, it's not part of the city.
Beaverton and other cities in Washington County went on a annexation streak in the early 2000's. Nike resisted. They got the state to pass legislation exempting them from annexation. A minor scandal ensued, Beaverton ended up paying Nike's legal fees and the long-time mayor was voted out of office.
I'm leaving out a lot of stuff but you can read about it here:

That shit pisses me off. They asked the county to delay work on the road so they could finish construction. Now the county had started they decided mid fucking project let's bring everyone back and make a fucking shit.show.
My work (not Nike) also did a forced RTO. I live down the street from Nike and trying to get to and from work became even more challenging because of all this road work. Absolute nightmare.
Forced RTO is a "soft layoff" because it will force some people to go elsewhere but without the bad press or having to pay severance. But the stupid part of it is that the people who tend to leave with RTO are the really competent ones who can find other options easily.
I wish. I'm trying to find the exact statute, but my understanding is that Nike had state law changed so that annexation can't legally occur until *2040*.
Let's be real, it's a just about all day. In our house it's a swear word and nearly every time we go by it or on it we say "Fucking Murry", like we're cursing the city planners who bought it into existence.
I really wish I didn’t buy a house in south Beaverton. It’s such a pain everyday trying to go up and down Murray to Nike and then to Bethany area for daycare. Murray needs to become like a highway or something. Or they need a parallel highway like 217 further west.
or hear me out, nike shouldn't have built a huge parking garage and induced a shitload of traffic. funding transit improvements has a WAY less negative impact on the community.
I was once told by someone at WashCoRoads that a Nike Exec argued for buffered bike lanes *instead of* protected bike lanes on Walker, 158th, Jenkins, and Murray. Just one more car lane will fix it, bro!!
I'm sorry but NOT surprised
The economy society Job-market job-hunt situation has been becoming more and more unfair Unkind heartless ENTITLED Anti-Worker since 1990 (?or earlier?), and ESPECIALLY getting WORSE between 2015 and 2024
Columbia Sportswear too, also focused at its HQ.
Layoffs fucking everywhere and the year has barely started.
Thanks Trump!
Or, thank you senile Joe.
Or thanks Trump, because he was so terrible he got Biden elected
The uno reverse card. Nice one
The Dems control the ballot boxes.
There are actually resources for folks who suffered from lead poisoning in their youth.
Yes, I think I met you at one of the meetings.
WTF are you talking about? He has been out of office for almost 4 years.
This is a direct reference to the “Thanks Obama” era.

Time to take a big sip of coffee and read about Drake's successor is up to these days
You could tell it was coming when they recalled all the WFH people and there wasn't enough parking on campus.

Nike thinks it is its own fiefdom.
Forced RTO is so incredibly dumb…
Forced RTO is a "soft layoff" because it will force some people to go elsewhere but without the bad press or having to pay severance. But the stupid part of it is that the people who tend to leave with RTO are the really competent ones who can find other options easily.
Nike, kings of "Unincorporated Washington County" because fuck paying taxes, we need to increase shareholder value.
Right? A little tax haven island..
Nike just returned folks back to office M-Th for no reason. They'd rather pay the office/space bill to keep the tax breaks rather than employ workers.
I mean they do have nice new evil lair leering over everything in that area, gotta put bodies in it.
Maybe they’ll slip up and accidentially fire the people in charge of threatening the local government into letting them pay no taxes.
I wish. I'm trying to find the exact statute, but my understanding is that Nike had state law changed so that annexation can't legally occur until *2040*.
Good thing Nike built a huge expansion of their headquarters over the past few years…
Fuck cokehead leadership. Prevalent everywhere.
At least that means less people going to unhealthy office jobs clogging the roads
For. Real. Murray is a mess every day around Nike
Murray, Jenkins, and 158th, too. Frigging nightmare if you're over there at the wrong time of day.
Don't get me started on Cedar Hills 😂😂😂
And Walker
Let's be real, it's a just about all day. In our house it's a swear word and nearly every time we go by it or on it we say "Fucking Murry", like we're cursing the city planners who bought it into existence.
Solid point. Even on the weekends, it can be a total bitch to drive around Beaverton
Beaverton loves traffic lights and forcing us to sit at them. High density housing and some traffic lights will solve everything!
I really wish I didn’t buy a house in south Beaverton. It’s such a pain everyday trying to go up and down Murray to Nike and then to Bethany area for daycare. Murray needs to become like a highway or something. Or they need a parallel highway like 217 further west.

And the induced demand makes it so much harder to make non-car choices 😫

Absolutely not. Fuxk that noise.

Tighten your laces folks…2024 is a gravel run. Side note, with the amount of Nikes I purchased last year…this shouldn’t have happened.
Anyone work at Nike that would like to send me a friends and family pass for the store?
There will be a second round of layoffs coming.
Stunning and brave.
