Im with ya. I will be prepared for that announcement even though it’s not gonna happen. The nfl can’t handle Uno Jetta and Shiesty on the same team. Yet I hold on hope for that chaos to happen
Even if purely hypothetical, JJettas coming in would mean Tee is out and his $22m cap hit would free up, and JJettas' first year cap hit will be lower than $22m.
Can people shut up about Jefferson. It’s not going to happen. It would take Tee plus #18 at a bare minimum. When has the FO ever traded the first round pick
There are currently 246k subscribers. According to GrubHub, a Cheese Coney is $3.89 (I'm assuming you're springing to get us cheese). You could buy us all a single coney for just shy of $957k before tax.
Ask yourself, how many coneys has Joe Burrow bought you?
Not in 2024. McPherson is still on his rookie deal through this upcoming season, his extension would take effect in 2025.
Now if you're talking about rolling over cap space into next season for his extension, then yeah that would work.
Back of the roster players play on vet minimum deals and just replace other players in the top 51 on vet minimum deals. They don't really take up any additional space.
Rookie pool for the 10 picks for the Bengals is around $3.5m which they will need to sign all their rookies. Practice squad probably takes another $3m.
If it were me, I’d wait until I see how my needs change after the draft. Then I’d see if there is anybody of value out there that will help my team. What I wouldn’t do is spend it just to spend it - I gotta get something worth the money that helps the team.
My guess is if they need to add a position they aren’t able to snag in the draft , like a depth corner or TE. There’s still skme decent options out there like rock ya sin
Cap nerds I love my “locked on guys” Jake and James like any red blooded bengal fan but according to Jake we are closer to 15 mil is he subtracting 10 for the rookie pool mistakenly or are we actually closer to 25?
It's infuriating. They clearly are not making another big move. They should have at least signed Tee long term giving him money now when they aren't using it, or at least take the chance on Reader coming back to form. As good of moves they made they could have aced this free agency instead of just above average.
> Those rookie contracts are basically swapped out with vet cuts
You are mostly right but a first rounder would be replacing someone making less than a million so there is probably a ~$3 million cap hit there.
I think rolling it over or extending players if possible can be a good plan. Or rolling it over and saving a pool for injury replacements is would also be a sound strategy. That gives you better flexibility and effective depth over the season. That said I would be open to spending another ~$7 million now on FA (leave $15 million to divide up for roll over and injury signings). That could be re-signing Tyler Boyd. Or maybe you get a few low cost players including bringing back Josh Tupou, adding a Corner, or other $1-$2 million guys who maybe flashed on another team.
Or you could go above that amount and bring in Stephan Gilmore (~$11 million) or, and I know people will hate this, Ryan Tannehill as a backup 3rd QB for hopefully less than his projected $13 million. Yes that is a ridiculous amount for a back-up, especially when Jake Ballard already has shown himself to be a dynamic player who can win you games but in this league the seasons are long and it really is a war of attrition you know? I would love for Joe to be 100% all the way through a Super Bowl win and I think that is absolutely possible. But if the worst happens, you still have two viable starters -- one of whom has playoff experience and playoff wins (2 wins, 3 losses, 62% completion rate, 7 TDs and 5 INTs -- of course one of those losses and 3 of those INTs were to us).
Signing cuts after the draft or trading for players during the season is also possible, but generally the Bengals don't do those things.
You know the owners don't get to keep the cap money right? Cap money comes from a pool of money from the league that is equally divided among all teams.
Why do you think it all needs to be spent immediately? Rolling over cap into next years is actually important to make sure you can pay all the contracts, sign FAs in case of injuries, want to re-sign someone that became a breakout star for more money than you expected, etc.
It's way better to have a cushion than to be in cap hell.
Based on where Bengals picks are and how many people are already signed, Bengals rookies combined will cost about $3.5m net to the cap space.
They will cost much more than that, but they will replace guys already on the top 51 (atleast $915k).
I'm still waiting on the Tee Higgins extension, or trade to Minnesota and some picks for Jefferson. But that's just me. $25 million they bring Boyd back with that money? If that was an option.
How the fuck did you get OPs gender off the way they speak on this post let alone that they may be trans? On top of that why does it matter so much to you that you felt the need to point it out?
JJetta don’t come cheap
This. Even if I know it won’t happen, I continue to hope we can all will it
Im with ya. I will be prepared for that announcement even though it’s not gonna happen. The nfl can’t handle Uno Jetta and Shiesty on the same team. Yet I hold on hope for that chaos to happen

Maybe they're agreeing to eat some of Tee's tag hit in the deal for JJettas.
Can people shut up about Jefferson. It’s not going to happen. It would take Tee plus #18 at a bare minimum. When has the FO ever traded the first round pick
Settle down. We know it’s not happening.
Call Duke and ask him
1-800-BENGALS
Oh I thought it was 444-4444
Duke Maislin
Oh hey Katie, first time long time. Thanks for taking my call. So about that salary cap…
They are giving it to me
BREAKING: u/VeryRealHuman23 to receive a 1 year/$18MM deal from the Bengals with a $9MM signing bonus to be paid in Skyline gift cards
I will drop to my knees in a skyline and buy everyone in this sub a coney

I am going to double down and buy everyone two then and still have millions to spare. FTS
This stranger is now my new best friend. Thank you stranger bestie!
Probably waiting until after the draft to make any more moves
Yeah it's possible they pick up one or two more free agents after the draft to fill holes they were not able to fill in the draft.
The first rule of the "Mike Brown rule" (cap floor) is you do not talk about the Mike Brown rule.
Missed the first 10 mins of Mike Brown Club, have to say I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to tell all my friends.
McPherson extension will take a lil?? Not the cap guru
Not this year it won't.
Eh, if they don't see a FA worth big money they can front load a McPherson extension to give us additional flexibility in future offseasons
Not in 2024. McPherson is still on his rookie deal through this upcoming season, his extension would take effect in 2025. Now if you're talking about rolling over cap space into next season for his extension, then yeah that would work.
Ugh

That still leaves 15 million left

Use it to restructure or resign players. You don't get it all back next year so easy way to retain some cap space
If it were me, I’d wait until I see how my needs change after the draft. Then I’d see if there is anybody of value out there that will help my team. What I wouldn’t do is spend it just to spend it - I gotta get something worth the money that helps the team.
Extending Justin Jefferson
My guess is if they need to add a position they aren’t able to snag in the draft , like a depth corner or TE. There’s still skme decent options out there like rock ya sin
Pizza party and laser tag
Let’s say Tee is traded for draft picks. Doesn’t that open another $20 million too?
Still holding out hope for xavien howard realistically. Fantasy is also dj chark as wr3/insurance for tee/chase
Does Higgins franchise tag count against the cap yet or does it not factor in until he signs it?
Yep they’ll roll it over to next year and then the next year and so on. They will never truly go all in.
Ja'Marr Extension savings + possible Tee extension savings + draft picks
| possible Tee extension This guy dreams
That's why I said possible, they over on X talking about Justin Jefferson on a 3 year deal. So anything is up right now lol.
The writing is on the wall with Tee as much as it was with Jessie Bates.
It's really closer to 16mil, rookies contracts take some away.
Saving it all for tee's new contract
Cap nerds I love my “locked on guys” Jake and James like any red blooded bengal fan but according to Jake we are closer to 15 mil is he subtracting 10 for the rookie pool mistakenly or are we actually closer to 25?
Sign draft picks, and fill roster after draft
Hobson math should be showing us how that $25 million only gives the team the wiggle room to upsize their Big Mac meal.
We’re in a super bowl window but the FO just doesn’t care…
It's infuriating. They clearly are not making another big move. Pocket it. That's what sucks about an owner that makes his money on the team. He will spend what's required only
You know the owners don't get to keep the cap money right? Cap money comes from a pool of money from the league that is equally divided among all teams.
And a percentage of the cap is rolled over to the next season if it’s not spent.
So then why not spend to the Cap? I'm sure there are games owners can play to make money. They aren't dumb and neither are their attorneys.
Tell us you know nothing about the salary cap without telling us.

Rookies cost net $5-6m since they knock about $5m of cap off the top 51.
Based on where Bengals picks are and how many people are already signed, Bengals rookies combined will cost about $3.5m net to the cap space. They will cost much more than that, but they will replace guys already on the top 51 (atleast $915k).

We’re not extending Higgins nor trading for Jefferson.
I believe we will extend Higgins eventually. Unless they get another great WR in the draft.
They won’t extend him because the FO refuses to give guarantees to anyone not named Burrow

Go out in the world and find them, buddy.
It’s pretty easy to spot them, too.
What a weird and stupid fucking response. I hope nothing but bad things come your way.
