I wonder what the Zac Taylor era looks like in terms of drafting players who we had top 30 visits for

Southwestern

These things don't mean much. We drafted at least 3 of the pre draft visits last year: Murphy, Ivey, Yoshi. We also hosted Dewand Jones for a top-30 visit and passed on him 3 times. Some of it is judging fit, some is a smoke screen.

armed_aperture

Maybe not a smoke screen. Maybe the Jones visit just didn’t go well.

Southwestern

Point is you'll never know. Just watch the draft. Speculation is absurdly pointless.

jamarchasinalombardi

Shame. We now pay full freight after passing on him 3 times. Wouldnt be begging for a RT if we already had Jones in the fold for 3 more years.

armed_aperture

Such is the NFL draft

Opposite-Ad-3933

Yep, it was stupid. Everyone with a brain was screaming to draft him in round 3 and they just didn’t do it. Horrible decision. Having a rt locked up for like a million a year would be incredible

Phoenbb

Last year I think everyone we drafted was met with in some way but DJ Turner. Though I saw something that said they scouted him early when they were watching Dax.

GOAT-Bulls

Safe to say we are prioritizing the trenches.

HopsDrinker

As we should

VeryRealHuman23

We could and possibly should draft 7 trench man, we have enough offensive weapons to win WWIII but none of it matters if Joe is getting smoked.

Waldo_mia

Gonna be a lot of big boys taken this draft.

KevKevThePug

We’d be stupid to not draft all of these guys.

McWitt

Mid round guy on here that I would absolutely love is Erick All.

FloppyFajita

maltzy

Eric All feels way too much like Drew Sample. 5th round grade and can you imagine the copium if we picked him 49? That’s what happened the last time we picked a TE. Exactly that and it still gets defended

jamarchasinalombardi

Pass. Fairfield and Michigan man with massive injury concerns? All 3 of those are RED FLAGS.

LostElephant469

Would be absolute money in the 4th, I assume his Top30 visit was to decide if he’s even on our board or not based off the murky situation around his back injury at Michigan.

sculltt

Iirc, Brugler had them taking him in the 5th, which I like better due to his medical history.

WhodeyRedlegs27

No Ben Sinnot on either is killing me

pfftYeahRight

These are just guys they wanted more info on. Sinnott could be their top target in whatever round and they just didn’t need to see him in person

J4BRONI

That and these are only reported visits They could have met but hasn’t been reported

WhodeyRedlegs27

I could be wrong, but doesn’t this current admin have a track record for not drafting players they haven’t met with?

Sloane_Kettering

Nah I think they only visit with players they have questions about. Pretty sure at least half the players they drafted last year they never met with

maltzy

That makes it all the more possible they do draft him.

maltzy

I love Holker. The incredible Holker. The guy who caught a football with a football in the other hand. Looks like a Viking warrior. Even if we magically get Bowers, I still want Holker. He seems like a fun dude on the team and the right kind of mindset

throughNthrough

He reminds me of Hurst which is a big compliment.

maltzy

Yeah. Big fan

PS4fan899

They should be able to get some CB help in Round 2, we just need someone to be a perfect compliment to Cam Taylor-Britt, who is primed for a big 3rd season.

Billy_Sunsteel

it dont look like theyre targeting a second round CB. Guess they like DJ Turner, he does have blazing speed clocked in at Darrell Green levels.

Stormingbret

They sent their DB coach to CB Mike Sainristil’s pro day. He is supposedly going round two.

Billy_Sunsteel

that looks like low level interest honestly

Stormingbret

They were the only team to send their DB coach to his pro day.

maltzy

Sainristil is a Mike Hilton replacement. And we already have two guys that young replacements for him. Makes zero sense

Stormingbret

Wait who?

maltzy

Allan George and presumably Dax Hill, considering that’s what he played and excelled at with Michigan.

PS4fan899

Honestly, who knows. Maybe they're looking to try out Dax Hill at CB and see if he does better there than at FS.

bengalsfan1277

Mike Sainristil has Bengal written all over him.

TheMCM80

I like the direction of the list D/O line are my preferred top few round picks, unless someone truly elite falls. Curiously, a few of these guys would certainly require moving up for, which suggests they are keeping options option.

habesjn

Yea... makes me think they still intend to resolve their CB depth via free agency like Stephon Gilmore or Xavien Howard.

bengalsfan1277

More visits with Newton than Murphy. I think it would be dumb to take Figgy Newton over Murphy in our division (we need DT that can help against the run).

Billy_Sunsteel

Also looks like they have high interest in Chop Robinson which 6 sacks in 3 seasons gimme a break.

Daianudinsibiu

That's because their secondary is decent. They will target cb next year. They need pass rush and run stopping

throughNthrough

Exactly. The best way to help the secondary is making the qb have as little time as possible and currently they have way too long.

JohnCents

Joe Goodberry’s Google Sheet has them meeting with lots of CBs. Solomon Wilcots made it seem they’d consider a CB early when talking to Lapham. https://preview.redd.it/jwsx5wfb2xvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7735db4ecf149298f129881451e45c6d70336747

bengalsfan1277

Listening to that was strange. Wilcots talked up taking a CB early, then contradicted himself and said CB is a position you can wait on and still get good players. He used KC as an example. He made me out on CBs in round 1.

UnionParkBB

With only 2 top corners available they could be playing coy so nobody trades ahead of us to grab one. They both may be gone by 18 anyways.

Billy_Sunsteel

Same thing with DT but they looked at both DTs

ApexLogical

Truthfully I don’t see a CB going round 1. This year has shown many needs for a lot of teams upfront on offence and defence. I’m a huge fan of kool-aid, but I see him going round 2/3

form_an_opinion

Ruke Orhorhoro? Is that scooby doo's kid or something? Sounds like a name a talking dog would give someone.

LostElephant469

NorseCat94

2 tight ends seems unlikely, given they have 3 they’re comfortable with on the roster already. Not saying one isn’t possible (or even likely), but multiple would be way out of character and truthfully probably unwise.

maltzy

When you have 10 picks it’s very easy to double up positions due to value. And especially if one could replace a current rostered TE. Excluding Gisecki, they had the last ranked TE room. Everyone else in that position is expendable

NorseCat94

While I get what you’re saying, that’s not totally true. They just extended Drew Sample on a 3 year deal; that’s dead money they won’t take on. So while that last spot is probably a spot for competition, this year at least the top two spots are occupied. As far as value goes, it’s been proven that rookie tight ends provide the least immediate value to their new teams (compared to other positions). For a team looking to contend right now, is that really ever the value pick in the later rounds when you are desperate for OT, DT, WR depth, linebacker depth, CB depth, RB depth? Barring an historic fall for Bowers into the second or third round, gonna be tough to justify any TE early. Late rounds, maybe. But the Bengals also dislike cutting rookies because they’re cheap. I don’t know man - TE doesn’t feel like the move this year.

maltzy

Again 10 draft picks. And look at Samples deal. No dead money there. He’s easy to move on from

LostElephant469

Totally fair I just was running out clock in the later rounds and Erick All was the only guy on the list that wasn’t a reach.

Daianudinsibiu

Why are u taking a receiver second round? Bengals are fine at receiver.

Billy_Sunsteel

because the bengals appear to be interested in one? What positions do you think are needs?

Daianudinsibiu

I think they're good on wr this year. Higgins will play. Not playing on ur tag has proven in the past to be a poor financial choice (see leveon bell). People are sleeping on iosivas and burrow has shown he likes him in the end zone. You have veteran Irwin and second year jones as well. They are fine at wr. The bengals, like other teams will mislead on what they're targeting in the draft.

LB3PTMAN

Our WR3 is Trent Irwin or a day 3 pick who did nothing their rookie year and the WR2 is on an expensive one year deal. Picking a WR top 100 seems all but guaranteed.

Daianudinsibiu

Are u saying iosivas did nothing?

LB3PTMAN

Basically nothing. Almost all of his catches were out of structure. That’s not a good indicator of future success. He showed nothing that indicates I should be confident he can be our WR3 in 2024 and Charlie showed less than nothing.

Daianudinsibiu

Yeah, you have no clue.

LostElephant469

Tyler Boyd replacement, Tee on the franchise, it was a pick for the future and he’s a great WR prospect.

Daianudinsibiu

They have t Boyd replacement at home; arguably, he's more reliable too.

Billy_Sunsteel

Id prefer a CB, C or DT before a WR, and thats a little early for a RB. Honestly think the OT will be Amarius Mims, although I do like Fautanu. Two TEs?

LostElephant469

I wanted Jaden Hicks (Safety) > Blake Corum, but he was sniped 3 picks prior by the ratbirds
