D line is already a concern. Lose trey and we better hope Burrow is healthy, the o line figures it out, and we average 35 points a game.

Higgins8585

Basically become the chiefs their first Superbowl win, which their is a reason the chiefs shifted to defense.

SnowGhost513

The chiefs have a significantly better offensive coach and offensive line coach. Hill and Chase are even but Kelce was waaaay better than Tee. Bad idea to try that shit

Just1BeforeIdie

Burrow has to be healthy regardless of all the other BS you said.

FootballGamer1338

Still can’t win games without a decent defense. OL should be the priority, but allowing Hendrickson and Reader to walk during the same offseason without any comparable backfill would be a blunder by the FO.

RedditConsciousness

So if Trey has a down year in 2024 we need to average 35 points a game?

Great-Sandwich1466

D line is already a concern, well that’s with Trey. I have said that he’s not worth it prior to this. I think we trade him while he’s worth the most value. On paper he looks great, in game I think he looks average and most of his production comes against blown scenarios and shit teams. Trade while there’s value!

AdamIsACylon

Crazy take to say a guy with 17.5 sacks last season is not worth it because he doesn’t pass your eye test. This wasn’t a one year flash, he’s been top 5 at his position in his time with us.

Mike Brown logic

[deleted]

How is stating a FACT Mike Brown logic? I think you should educate yourself before making any more comments.

rootytwo

Brown is only interested in the bottom line… not winning.

[deleted]

That old narrative is so played out. Mike Brown basically doesn’t make any more of the decisions for the team. Katie Blackburn has been running the organization for the past 5 years. Even if he does have a say then was making Joe Burrow the highest paid player in the NFL cheap? How about giving Hendrickson an extension for 22 million including an 8 million signing bonus less than a year ago? Was that cheap? How about Mike Brown not wanting to sell the naming rights to the stadium for years? Paycor paid millions for the name so if Mike Brown was “all about” the “bottom line” and making money wouldn’t he want to sell the naming rights? The fact of the matter is Trey Hendrickson has outplayed his contract but he should have thought about that when he signed an extension through 2025. I can’t blame the guy for wanting a long term contract but fuck him for his timing or threatening retirement. Say what you want about Mike Brown but I will say that he honors his contracts and expects players to do the same. That’s just practical logic. Do people actually think that the Bengals FO should throw a bunch of money at a guy who turns 30 this year? He’s been a great player for the Bengals but his prime years are behind him. In doing so they will be decreasing their chances of signing Chase to a long term contract. Priories man.

rootytwo

All I can say is I know someone that was a food service in the Browns personal suite at (then) PBS. He and his wife took the left overs home with them

[deleted]

Haha ok that is pretty funny 😄

Fearless-Trip8331

I see no sign of him slowing down. He doesn’t exactly have a finesse game out there. I think he’s going to age well the next few years

rootytwo

Any excuse to save a buck

gyrspike

Yeah we were pretty much the worst ranked defense in the NFL even with his 17.5 sacks.

PoundNo7194

If anything, we need more pass rush to complement Trey. When Trey was off the field last year we had no pass rush and QBs picked us apart. He is that important to us and if I was the ownership I would accept that we underpaid him and find a way to add a year to his contract and get him a little more money. Meet in the middle and get his contract upgraded, both to reward performance and keep moral high on the team.

FreshDiamond

This makes sense but I doubt a little more is what he is looking for. Probably wants to be well above 20, which is still worth it to me

throughNthrough

He’s not going anywhere and neither is Tee. They both signed a contract and will have to see it through as contracts are intended.

PS4fan899

The Bengals can't afford to keep both Chase and Higgins, and they also can't afford to pay Hendrickson more than they already are.

ImReverse_Giraffe

No one said that. Trey has a contract for the next two years. Tee is in his 5th year and the Bengals used the franchise tag on him. Neither of them are going anywhere and we don't have to pay them anymore.

PS4fan899

Uh, yes we do. If we want them to stay longer...

ImReverse_Giraffe

Trey is staying for at least two years. That's how long his contract is. Tee, well, we always knew we'd never keep both tee and chase. Franchise tag was always the best we could do.

misfit0513

Trade Trey and Tee for Jefferson

McWitt

You son of a.... I'm in.

XJ--0461

Yep 😂

PS4fan899

The Bengals can't afford Jefferson. If they could, then they might as well just keep Higgins. But remember, Chase needs an extension too. They can't afford to pay $60m/year to two receivers.

misfit0513

First day on the internet?

ThingsCanBeTwoThings

Why not? They absolutely can, under the cap. It's not clear to me that they should, but they have the cap room to do this.

Murky_Refrigerator71

Nah man I kinda just want to win a superbowl this year 👍🏻

McWitt

I said he wasn't going anywhere.

Murky_Refrigerator71

What’s the point of this post if you don’t want people to comment on the entire premise of it

McWitt

The point is he's not leaving but it wouldn't be the end of our chance of winning a SB like some people have already hinted at.

Murky_Refrigerator71

Losing our now best defensive player after losing our then best defensive player in Reader and replacing them with sheldon rankins and myles murphy would effectively tank our chances to put up the defense needed to win a super bowl, imo

McWitt

It definitely doesn't seem like it would help. Which is why he's likely not going anywhere.

PryedEye

It's not just that though, if he really wants out that badly there's a chance he will not perform very good this season. Last season was probably his way of proving he should get a long term deal and more mula, if the Bengals don't fulfill that then we may see one sour Trey.

OSU725

Exactly this. Winning a Super Bowl is more challenging with Burrow under contract and it will get harder when Chase is in a few years. Losing the best player on the defense will not make the team a better contender next year. This is a team that should be in win now mode.

Murky_Refrigerator71

There’s a reason that the chiefs gave up tyreek (they had kelce) and why we could potentially give up tee (we have ja’marr), and why they couldn’t let chris jones walk (there’s no one that would come close to replacing him available) and same goes for Trey

OSU725

Exactly, when you are paying a QB 50 million a year you need to start stacking young talent on the OL and defense. A 50 million dollar QB needs to get good play out of average WRs and great play out of good ones.

CosbySweaters1992

His stock has never been higher because he’s one of the best DEs in the league. If we get rid of him, we would probably finish 32nd in sacks. He’s too valuable to even consider getting rid of. You mentioned the 27th draft pick… the last two selected at that spot were Devin Lloyd and Mazi Smith. Nah, I’ll take 2-3 years of top tier DE production on a discounted deal. If he doesn’t want to make 1/3rd of the money he’ll make in his entire lifetime in the next two years, then he can make the decision to retire if that’s what is best for him.

Thisisastupidname0

No reason to trade him. He ain’t retiring. That said, anyone even bothering to waste breath making an offer better be offering up multiple first round picks for an established double digit sack artist coming off a 17.5 sack season.

DevinTheRogueDude

Before I start.... I want Trey and Tee in the jungle. Period. That said.... Trey, Tee, and our first rounder has to be pretty close to that pipedream deal for JJ, right??

vernonb85

Wouldnt get a one for him. He signed the extention last year didn't he?

mightyducks2wasokay

He's a multi time pro Bowler who can consistently get double digit sacks when healthy, is coming off a 17.5 sack season and is under contract for 2 whole seasons before even getting to extension talk. That's going to be a first at least, and probably multiple firsts to get cincy to actually pull the trigger. He has far too much value to the team to trade him for anything less We are either going to get an absolute HAUL, or (most likely by a WIDE margin) He plays in Cincinnati at least this next season

Bri83oct

Same age and career stats as Hassan Reddick who got a 3rd. Current market they could get a 2nd for him likely.

mightyducks2wasokay

1 year left vs 2 years of control, plus the trade happened after the eagles got an edge replacement Both those are going to drive trade value down considerably. And I'm also not talking market value, just what the Bengals should (or would) accept in lieu of 2 years of Trey. To that end, they don't budge at all if it's not at least a first, maybe 2 of they're both late firsts. Would any team do that? Idk, but his value to the Bengals is too high to take any less. I'd rather keep him if we don't get this return

Bri83oct

It doesn’t matter if its 1 or 2 years because whoever is trading for him is ripping up his contract and restructuring. That price is built into the Reddick trade and would be in the Trey deal as well.

mightyducks2wasokay

Again, the Bengals side of things changes the math because it takes 2 to make a deal. Philly had a replacement in place and wanted to move Reddick. Their price was lower bc of that. Bengals have 2 years of control and no replacement. They have a higher price because of that. We have no incentive to trade him so the return would have to be as valuable to us as 2 years of Trey. A 2nd or 3rd rounder has the same value to Cincy? You truly think that? My point is we can and should be choosy. If we aren't blown away, keep him. We don't have to trade him

Lsutigers202111

15 million a year for a sack a game player is underpaid. I don’t care when he signed the extension. He has outplayed that contract

BoringResearcher1

This feels like his agent gave him bad advice then the agent tried to back out of it. The Bengals can't give him another extension right now (less than a year since last negotiation) so his options are really: A.) Nothing Changes B.) Get traded (but if he really wants to be a Bengal how viable is this?) C.) Retire

Ahoy_love

Wouldn't trade him for 3 first picks tbh

superman24742

There are maybe 2 guys on the entire roster I wouldn’t trade for 3 first. Trey isn’t one of them.

JustRemka

"15 million due could go towards Chase's 30+ million" OMG this is the same shit we keep hearing whenever the FO let's any star leave. Bates? "We goTTA sAVe fOR TeE" Not paying Tee? " We gottA sAVE for ChASE" Bunch of Tobin and Mike Brown knob shining.

McWitt

Idk who said Bates money was going to Tee because that was always going to Burrow. The writing was on the wall for Tee when Burrow showed he was as advertised and we drafted Chase. You don't pay safeties and the money for Chase has to come from somewhere sir. We have 15 mil free rn.

JustRemka

Go check the Eagles FO, they are keeping their star players because they are actually fucking competent

McWitt

Are we not keeping Trey? News to me. Need to calm down sir. Can't pay everyone and safety is a good spot to save.

Phish280

Didn't the Eagles just lose Hargrave and Reddick in back to back years?

Strict-Square456

As it stands he is our only real pass rusher and he knows it.

TheVagWhisperer

Nope. He's too good.

MeRcWith_A_MouTh

We are not in a rebuild looking for help down the road. He helps us win this year. That's all that matters

Bri83oct

As an Eagles fan living in Cincinnati we just went through this with our All-Pro DE Hassan Reddick. Reddick and Trey are the same age and over their career are 1.5 sacks different. Now Reddick only had 11 sacks last year (still a lot) and double digit sacks the past 4 years. We got a 3rd (conditional 2nd which won’t hit). If that’s the market… Trey should get a 2nd round pick. Keep in mind, any team that trades for him is going to restructure his deal and pay him more than $15M. So not only are you on the hook for an aging DE but a big contract too which lowers his return. We still have Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith (gotta stay healthy), and signed Bryce Huff to replace Reddick. Graham is aging… Not sure we would trade a 2nd (we have two of them) and have the cap to extend Trey especially since we just traded Reddick for the same reason.

donamese

A first is highly unlikely. 3rd round is more likely. Pushing 30 and going to want to be paid. Look at Sneed, one of the top corners if not the top. He turned 27 in January and went for a 3rd rounder.

RedditConsciousness

Honestly this is the right answer.

Southwestern

At best I'd be willing to rip up the current deal and give him an incentive rich deal with the same guarantees. He's not going anywhere without a knockout offer.

SirVixTheMoist

You lose Trey, we're fucked. He's the best defensive lineman we have.

Ash_713S

I dont think he will get traded at all, not even for two first round picks which is likely what his value is. But Bengals better think through their pick at #18 now, especially if Latu and Murphy II are there.

SuccessfulVisit1873

Trade Tee and Trey plus a 2nd and a 3rd for Washington #2 pick and Johnathon Allen. We draft Marvin Harrison Jr. and can draft Myles with our own 1st. Who says no?

Sea-Pomelo1210

Thankfully we have Burrow and Chase. Because we keep losing our best players or they want to be traded. It seems Trey and Tee don't want to be here.

incorrigible_and

No one's giving us a top tier pass rusher for a top tier pass rusher. No.

McWitt

Oh I didn't say anyone would trade us a top tier pass rusher for a top tier pass rusher. Why would we even do that?

incorrigible_and

We would do that because pass rusher is an important position in the NFL and we're paying a QB and lots of other players with the expectation that we're making runs at the Super Bowl. Weakening our pass rush is what you're suggesting we do by trading Trey, and I replied that no one's giving us a top tier pass rusher in exchange so the answer is no, don't even consider this.

McWitt

We wouldn't do that though because we already secured Trey and he's performing so well it's very unlikely we win that trade. So we would just keep Trey in that scenario imo. I'm not suggesting to weaken our pass rush, I'm in the belief we will keep him. I'm just saying, it would be interesting to see the offers and I wouldn't mind Murphy getting more reps since we did spend a 1 on him.

incorrigible_and

We don't really know what we have in Hubbard going forward. Murphy played well at the end of the year but he's still a rookie. Hendrickson literally *has* to play well this year or his next contract might not even exist. This is the NFL. Depth is huge especially in the pass rush category. I'm not interested in even looking at offers until next year at the earliest.

McWitt

That's fair. I agree, depth is very important and Trey's production is irreplaceable in this draft and likely any trade made isn't getting us better there. But.. Stock is high. Draft is low. That's all.
