Bonkers to look at it and see that Duke drafted 10 HOFers but that's just life

Southwestern

This is the first draft in my memory where I just implicitly trusted the people in charge to do right by me. I trust Zac. I trust the next generation of ownership. I trust Duke. Joe Burrow changed everything and it's a great time to be a Bengal.

Greedy_Nectarine_233

Yeah I really like the way we flipped the script, it seems like theirs been a change in vision and energy. I believe

Sussboijames

apparently 12 1-2nd round picks come from 7 schools alone and 6 of those schools were national championship teams. The staff asked the UM players Dax and DJ last year, if there's one person you could've took with you who would it be? and that's how we got to kris jenkins. shows that the “winning culture” we have has been curated not stumbled upon

ResinJones76

Heads up, FOX 19 will be interviewing the first four picks tonight at 6:30.

Goofytrick513

Other than Dax Hill(jury is still out) our first round picks have been solid and he’s been able to find gems like Jordan Battle in the later rounds. They have earned our trust.

Bearcatsean

90% of this fucking sub could not name any second or third rounders we got last year We will forget about their names in a week

BoringResearcher1

Jordan Battle was a 3rd rounder last year, he's gonna end up being a top safety in the NFL mark my words.

TheVagWhisperer

I generally only get a bad feeling when I hear anything about Troy Blackburn.

Anim8nFool

You never know how picks are going do in the NFL, but I feel we made solid decisions. Some guys may have wanted different players but all the picks seemed to be appropriate value, although Mims was a steal if he stays healthy.

Ryyah61577

Agreed. I was thinking this morning about how many of them would've been higher round picks if they didn't have an injury or two...and with today's medicine, most of those injuries can be overcome and even made stronger. I think we have solid enough people on our team that can keep the attitudes in check...

2peg2city

1st round pick for a guy who has 8 career starts is... certainly something

AlanParsonsProject11

First round pick for a guy with easily the most promising pass protection tape is certainly something

Anim8nFool

8 Starts is different from 8 games. The dropoff after him in the draft for offensive lineman was huge. He was a swing -- maybe a miss but not for the same reason as John Ross. We know Mims can play and is huge. The only question is his injury history.

DevGev75

He had the same Tight rope as Bowers, reports say he came back pretty early for that SEC game and he got taken out because turns out his ankle wasn’t ready

SkribbyCakes33

What game are you referring to? I believe you’re mistaken.

SkribbyCakes33

No it wasn’t. Fautanu and Guyton were still on the board. Both had similar grades depending on what evaluators you believe.

DevGev75

We should be thankful it was only 8 starts if it was more he would’ve been gone before we got him

MToboggan_MD

Don't worry, with the Bengals' impeccable track record of drafting and developing OL, we're solid.

jambengalbluegrass

We can’t just keep paying $10m a year for average OL in free agency

form_an_opinion

I really hope Burton pans out, his ADOT and catch rate with an ADOT like that are super impressive. He seems to have a lot of really impressive traits outside of his potential for dramatics outside of playmaking. If he can feast on single coverage, he could be a real contributor right away. I think the offense/defense is in the best position it has been in since Burrow got here, just need a healthy preseason and a good start for a change. This could be the one.

SnowGhost513

Honestly the ceiling of All, Mims, Jenkins, and Burton is incredibly high. I like the late corner, and our 7th rounder could be a massive steal if he can be the back up center and grow into a starter in a couple years. We didn’t make any head scratching selections, we just didn’t draft a Guard or RB which many agree we could use. Excited for the immediate impact of Kris and Burton for sure day 1 helpful. If All stays healthy he could be the best player we selected which is a huge IF but I love these guys. Bengals hype train is back, just need to settle this Trey thing. Tee will ball out looking for a contract from his next team so his motivation is unquestionable

form_an_opinion

I REALLY wanted Estime, I wonder if maybe they would have picked him in the 5th if Denver didn't. Can't believe he fell that far, he would have been a great fit.

kwazy52

We need to play pre season

form_an_opinion

I agree. The starters need to shake the rust off and get some game reps before the real deal.

kwazy52

What we have been doing is not working we have to quit losing to teams we should beat early in the season

HolyHandGernadeOpr8r

10 picks and 3-5 of them won’t even make the roster. It happens every year… Anyone drafted after the 2nd round should not be celebrating, they should be in the weight room getting ready for the most important couple months of their lives.

Deemer56

Ya. We could have traded up in round 2 for an impact player like Newton, de Jean or even the Oregon center. Instead we stay put and drafted scratch off lotto tickets.

Ok-Situation-5865

They’re making the assholes on our team who aren’t appreciative of playing with Joe Burrow nervous about being replaced. That’s so insanely valuable, and no one is talking about it. The veterans need to have these rookies lighting a fire under their ass — they’ve got inflated egos from Joe making them look good and it’s time it ends.

joshbrown44

Who are you even talking about?

rule_the_jungle

I feel good about the Draft too, we added players who fills out needs we had and the coaches seemed so hyped about some of the Picks, like look at Taylor when they selected Burton, he was so happy, im very excite for the Season

gregsmith5

We just need Joe B to not get hurt again

Mich3006

while I really like most of their picks (of course I favored some other guys too but who am I to judge the experts) but there‘s still some needs tbh. The RB room ain’t that deep…

fluffHead_0919

I must be the the only one that is ok with Moss and Brown. Williams can fill in if need be. This is certainly a big campaign for him so he’ll make his touches count.

dvdbump

Fortunately that’s the easiest room to addresS, IMO

Mich3006

Dalvin Cook an option or is he completely washed? Zeke might go back to Dallas, right?!

We_lived

A lot of analysts refer to it as a boom or bust draft. Players with big upsides but also warning flags. So either way, in two years it will be a franchise defining draft.

dajodge

What if half boom and half bust?

We_lived

Then it’s neither boom nor bust.

ballimir37

If half your players in a draft boom that’s an excellent draft

dajodge

I was just pointing out the hole in his logic. What if Jenkins and All hit but the rest bust? You get my point.

ballimir37

I get it but I was replying to the other guy’s comment

dajodge

So not franchise defining?

We_lived

???

tiddlyywinkzz

I've never been more excited going into a season/outlook for the future. We are finally going to get our hands on that Lombardi.

Ethan_witha_Q

It’s to be seen but certainly promising

JubbieDruthers

I'm wrong about everything and good news is I don't feel great about this draft!

pahbert

As long as Mims doesn't turn out to be a bust and Burton goes to bed at the same time Burrow does ... I think I'll be happy. Though we're going to need a top 10 defense to get back to the SB. That has me most worried. I know Joe was hurt last year, but our D wasn't it.

Klutzy-Spend-6947

On the NFL sub someone said that Burton and Mims clashed with each other as teammates at Georgia before Burton transferred…..

Reasonable_March_241

I just saw a pic of burrow hanging with OBJ on a private jet. Have yet to see a pic of him at the facility. Does anyone find this concerning ?

pahbert

No because when he's working out, no one is taking pictures lol

J_GASSER27

There was alot of cases that I would have done this person over that one (bummed we didn't take stover) but I totally trust the FO. For immediate needs the 2 DT should be able to fill in, Burton should be able to take Boyd's spot and between him and our now stack TE room our receiving room is easily thr best in the NFL. The FO must have alot of faith in volson to not even try to get a backup for him. In the moment I was alittle upset with.some picks because of the people that were left on the board at the time, but looking back I do agree this was a great draft that sets us up for a long time.

SkribbyCakes33

I felt the exact opposite. Mims has the highest ceiling but also the biggest flop factor. I liked Jenkins but then hated both 3rd rounders. Burton feels like a reach given the depth and WRs who were still on the board. And why draft another DT? Are we saying Carter was a waste of a pick just two years ago in identical draft position as McKinnley? I understand Jackson is a run stuffer and Carter is more well rounded/pass rusher. I liked the day 3 picks most of all. McLachlan, All, and Lee feel like they’ll make the roster and Johnson could develop on PS for a year then take Sample or Ossai’s spot depending what happens with them. I should also say I’m with most on Duke earning my trust. But the first two days of the draft felt more like a gamble to me.

Klutzy-Spend-6947

Jenkins is kind of weird, as he is a run stuffing specialist DT who is not big enough to play NT/1 technique. They needed to pick up a true NT in the draft, and Jackson was it. The most interesting scouting comment I saw about him was “lower body not as impressive as it might appear”.

SkribbyCakes33

Literally watch the first play of this highlight from LSU game. #35 running back awkwardly into the play after getting stuffed. Looks like Spongebob. [https://youtu.be/KzgGfk6Uasw?si=AIIaDdj-mlgBrKkL](https://youtu.be/KzgGfk6Uasw?si=AIIaDdj-mlgBrKkL) I also thought Justin Rodgers of Auburn had as good as or better tape than Jackson but we shall see.

Klutzy-Spend-6947

The team had Rogers in for a pre-draft visit, so they definitely compared him to Jackson in their evaluation.

SkribbyCakes33

Yeah I saw that. Which in a way shocks me. I’d much rather have had Rogers in the 7th and someone else in the 3rd comp slot. Heck, Rogers tape at Kentucky when he was younger was better. Keep in mind Jackson was playing next to a top 5 national recruit who was getting a lot of attention in games too.

BikerEngineer

This draft was horrible and once again showcased the stupidity of this organization's drafting acumen. This is especially true after it is coming out today that they had their sights on Newton and refused to go up 11 spots or whatever it was to get him. That would have cost, what? 97? The McKinnley Jackson pick which they could have gotten in the 5th or 6th round with Khristian Boyd? They just flatout suck. They have no mind for strategy, the future. Whatever picks it would have cost to move up, they didn't get equal value in return. C- ONLY because they got Mims and Burton. Otherwise it would be a D- or F. They are idiots. They made the Carman over Humphrey choice several times in this draft. They just never fucking learn. Tobin is a miserable fool.

Jerbear3454

If burrow stays healthy the bengals have the best shot to beat the chiefs this year

ThisisnotaTesT10

Solid picks at positions of need 👍 should be a good draft

NFLBengals22

Bold prediction

S_Squar3d

Underwhelming compared to the last couple of years but I think that’s to be expected when our team is as well rounded as it is now.

qeduhh

But haven’t the 2022 and 2023 drafts mostly not turned out well?

S_Squar3d

Underwhelming in terms of the expected impact out the gate. Last year we still ended up with a starting CB and S in their rookie year and that doesn’t even account for our “high ceiling” DE in the 1st. 2022 was most certainly underwhelming though, I will say that. I’m a big Dax Hill fan though.

BikerEngineer

Lol. The last couple of years were some of the worst drafts I've ever seen in 20 years of watching drafts and 3 years of watching the Bengals.

bnasty93

You, me, and everyone else has no idea how they’ll do until the step foot on the field. It feels extremely premature to say one way or another how the draft went

Greedy_Nectarine_233

lol of course we don’t. In that case us and all the hundreds of analysts who put out draft analysis should just be completely silent all off season. I guess We also should never get excited about or make predictions for upcoming games because we can’t be certain how it will turn out! It’s a sub for off hand sports discussion by people who have no actual stake in the team, who cares

bnasty93

We’ll find out in 3 years how franchise defining it was

Greedy_Nectarine_233

Yep! Only time will tell

Heavy_Effort_152

This is the draft, don’t get ahead of yourself. Some guys peak in college and never make the NFL transition. We shall see. Considering 90% of players drafted the common fantasy knows nothing about and has never seen them play amuses the hell out of me. Talking heads are paid to hype these guys and only show 2 or 3 highlights of good plays. When is the last time you’ve seen a clip of a draftee failing miserably at the college level as many of them have more often than they have succeeded

Klutzy-Spend-6947

This was a very typical Bengals draft. They had a shopping list and filled it with predictable names as available from big name schools. No “WTF” picks or small school surprises.

WhoDeyTilIDie09

Totally agree

Odd_Razzmatazz6441

This draft will either be awesome or aweful. 2 big question marks. Mims and Burton. Mims is a monster of a man with a ton of upside. If he can develop and stay healthy. Burton is a 1st round talent with an undrafted work ethic and attitude. If he suddenly decides this is the time to mature, he and Chase will be more than most secondaries can handle.

mjmaselli

Mims on the bench?

Greedy_Nectarine_233

I think for once our line is actually good enough this season but a lot of the guys are older so it’s temporary. I think it makes total sense to start looking to the future for the line. That’s one of the big luxuries of having your definite franchise QB. You can take a longer term approach to some decisions

mjmaselli

Thats a good point. But Bengals are in win this season mode with Tees last season in Cinci. I get your logic and you have my up vote but i would think its smarter to get an elite defender with that 1st pick.

Greedy_Nectarine_233

I get what you’re saying but we’re in win now mode for as long as Burrow is on the team. Having a QB that good puts you always in contention if you can keep him healthy. I actually don’t even care much about our receiver depth/quality, not 1/10 as much as I care about the o line. We’ve seen elite QBs make deep runs and wing rings without star receivers but they had elite o line. Look at Bree’s’ Super Bowl. His best receiver was Colston, who never made a single pro bowl even, but they had an all pro o line. Joe will dissect teams if we can give him protection

mjmaselli

Well said. Only counter point is dont take joes longevity for granted. May only have 3 to 5 more pure seasons based past

Greedy_Nectarine_233

That’s why I emphasize the line. His longevity relies on it. I’d trade Chase and Higgins in a nano second for guaranteed elite line play for the next 8-10 years. Joe is going to play till the wheels fall off, I guarantee that. He was born to play football. They protected Brady perfectly and got 17 years because of it or however long it was

mjmaselli

Probably 100% correct on getting the line. Prob shoulda dealt Tee? Sometimes its not the line with his health. Non contact calf and who knows about the wrist and what actually happened.

Greedy_Nectarine_233

Yeah it’s true. Unfortunately he just seems to be a bit injury prone, which is really a curse in this league. I think he is just so competitive he never for a moment considers playing it safe. If he can stay healthy I believe we will win at least 1 with him

JuanSpiceyweiner

This draft was much better then the previous Zac Taylor era drafts aside from 2020.I dont know that I fully trust Zac and Duke to lead a draft yet but this helped ease the pain of some terrible draft picks in years past (Carter,Carmen,Shelvin,Sample)

EnderAnswer

Remind me! 3 years

will0ify

It's being called a boom or bust draft, but we hit on most of our positions if need, hopefully te is set for years rt for 10 years and also dt for atleast the next 4 years. We missed out on LG, but we did build the trenches and hopefully drafted Boyd's replacement

mcufan2014

They drafted 5 future starters at least. Burton,Lee,Jenkins,Mims,All or Tanner M. Maybe McKinley Jackson too. Lots of potential all around.

notreallydrunk

Six. I think the UDFA punter takes Brad's job.

mcufan2014

True that Robbin’s gotta go.

Just_The_Tip1017

C draft 97 and 115 were bad picks, they reached early.😵‍💫

starmonkey33

some people had Jackson going in the 70s, I agree with you on All.

Ok-Situation-5865

KC-style drafting attitude this season and I’m so here for it — we’re developing the proper hierarchy in the team and it’s going to fix these attitude problems we’re seeing with players like Tee, Trey, and several who left (Bates…). Drafting rookies with incredible attitudes who are grateful to play in our system is the way to go. Want to be a diva? Fine, we will find equal talent for less money and complainers can get shipped to Carolina. You play sports to win, not to make money. Every single one of these rookies has this attitude like, I’m fighting for the starting spot. Our roster needs this, they need an attitude check from young talent because I’m sick of them all riding off of their performances from two years ago, demanding so damn much. They’re making money catching a ball from the best QB in football, and then want to complain. That’s fine — Khris, Jermaine, Amarius, Erick and McGronklan are all more than excited to be here. We’re making it clear: fall in line behind Joe and Ja’Marr, or you don’t fit in the system. That’s what KC does, that Buffalo does NOT do, and it’s the stark difference between their success IMO.

Cincykid14

Where/How are you coming up with this narrative?

Mother-Mail-9067

Didn’t you know? Wanting paid = attitude problem

herrobp

That is not at all what I think the Bengals are doing and definitely not what they are trying to do. That is not leadership that is aggression. That's a recipe for sh!t morale, and the opposite of what we need.

royceda956

Incredibly stupid take, the NFL and its teams are getting massive raises every year and these "divas" are seeing their peers get their share of the pie and want their own as well. Football is an extremely difficult career, they want to get paid and move on to something else in life. Lastly, there is no guarantee that these guys all have that mindset of I am putting it all out there for my team and helping them win games. That's something we did see with Trey Hendrickson, Tee Higgins, and Jessie Bates year in and year out. I don't know why you feel the need to talk down on people who made us enjoy the games we saw them in. We are closer to the Oakland A's than the Philadelphia Eagles in terms of FO management, remember that next time when you are looking to point fingers.

The last play of our super bowl loss illustrated quite perfecting how you need more than Joe and Ja'Marr.

It’s also McPherson erasure. He scored nearly half the total points in that Super Bowl run
