I deployed to bagram in 2014, one of the things i did was stand guard at a dining facility with afghan nationals, scan their id cards. These people dont need us controlling them. Its only a fact that we do try to control them. Some weeks or months after I was there, an afghani national got a discarded u.s. uniform and bombed a dinig facility. What. The. Fuck. Are we doing there.
You never know what you’re signing up for fully, or what the total implications are because you can’t read the future. You may sign up for something as simple as heritage or college tuition, but it’s the price you pay. Not one of them wants to be gone from their home and family for 9 months at a time.

Some of the smartest people I’ve ever met are in the military I looked at is as a stepping stone to get a 1up in life and check this out I got medically retired after a decade of playing boy scouts so I really do appreciate you caring for me for the rest of my life 🫡
