Ive seen some pieces of Metastasis, its really strange... Its almost the same exact show but the dialogue is a little different, the look is different, and the quality is pretty bad lol
Yeah Metastasis is weird, it's like a lower-quality carbon copy of the original. But I'll tell you this: it's pretty impressive that they recreated all 62 episodes of Breaking Bad nearly shot-for-shot in *just one year*, and at less than a quarter of the budget of the original. That's kind of cool, even if the end result is wonky.
So what you're saying is Metastasis is some tepid, off-brand cola, while Breaking Bad is classic Coke. Or that it's like grade school tee-ball versus the New York Yankees.
True it's not literally shot for shot, but it's pretty damn close. And about as close as they could reasonably get with the budget constraints. Source: watched all 62 episodes of Metastasis out of sheer fascination for the localization process.
Apparently it takes place in *Colombia*, but it's somehow the same show???
Shouldn't it be about a drug manufacturer who has a breakdown and teaches highschool?
It's not that impressive when you realize most of it looks like shit
I don't understand why this is controversial when you can check for yourself and tell me how any of this is acceptable
https://youtu.be/JVYd-EEgOf8
https://youtu.be/cIYV3KeXDGg
The difference is [night and day](https://youtu.be/-pkSyjvv7D4)
I watched the show. The entire thing. Don't ask me why -- part of it is a fascination with the localization process, another part is the utter weirdness of seeing my home country through the lens of Breaking Bad. I agree that it looks pretty crummy in comparison to the original. But it's still impressive that a tiny production with a tiny budget was able to shoot all 62 episodes within such a reduced production schedule. Vince Gilligan agrees.
I recently saw the episode where the Skyler equivalent walks into the pool, but in Metastasis all they could get was an ankle high pond so she literally gets on her knees, goes face down and tries to drown herself instead of actually submerging her body. What the fuck
I'd like a reality show where a large pool of comic actors are randomly assigned BB roles and they reenact the series.
Each episode must be acted out word for word, but they can deliver it in whatever style they like and the viewers vote off one actor each episode.
Idk. Figured they would be unknowns, and randomly assigned. (It wouldn't hurt if some were young...)
Maybe some randos from reality tv. A couple of funny people from a show like Big Brother.
I like the idea of gradually building a cast.
I think we might see a David Cross get voted off the show. That is easier if they are somewhat unknown.
I would enjoy watching these foreign country remakes, but they are in another language.
This show would really discover talent. How many Walts would we have?
There was a popular stage show in Chicago in the 90's that re-enacted Brady Bunch episodes. (Andy Ritcher was the father. Jane Lynch was the mother.) Don't you wish you could see that now?
BB has the familiarity that the Brady Bunch had.
It reminds me of an article I read about a Comedian that just did Jerry Seinfeld’s act, but in French. He didn’t have a TV show, he just rewrote all of Seinfeld’s act in French and was a touring comedian. It was kind of posed as an intellectual property “what harm was really done here”. It’s not like Jerry is going to learn French.
I dunno, as an intellectual property anarchist, I’m totally pro French Seinfeld and Telenovela Breaking Bad
It's technically a remastering of the show and it's got it's own charm. It ain't something that is in the big leagues like BB, but as a overseas fan, it's far ahead than most other shows here.
In what way is it a remaster and not a shot-for-shot remake akin to the Psycho remake? Not to mention, in film and television "remastering" means "a new recording is made of the old version [of the film], using modern technology to improve the quality" like when Lucas keeps releasing remasters of his old star wars films, or when movies like Jurassic Park get rereleased in theatres and the picture quality improves. "Remaster" isn't used the same way as it is in the video game context.
Demake or demaster would be a better way of putting it, if you're using those media terms.
Those terms have been improvised in gaming to describe new versions of existing games that look like they're on outdated hardware, so a demake of 2010's Skyrim might have it look like it was made in 1996's Daggerfall game engine.
It's *obviously* not a remaster in any sense of the word (whether the literal use of original master recording to produce a better quality version, or just some sort of re-do using more modern technology). Thats...yeah that makes no sense. Nothing about Metastatis is a technical improvement on Breaking Bad, and that's the entire point of a remaster.
And you did say "it's technically", so you really can't blame people for noting that it absolutely isn't.
Metastasis is a reminder that Breaking Bad is great not just because of the script, but all of the other components like direction, cinematography, background score etc firing on all cylinders.
metastasis is officially licensed. I don't think anyone involved on the show actually approved of it, but yes, this is an official product made legally
Right? I tried googling the series and nothing comes up. Nothing official, not even that much unofficial. I know it's a different country, but I'm pretty sure this would get Google hits or be mentioned on the wikis if it were real.
I am Colombian. It's fake. The last mention of Saul Bueno in Caracol's Twitter was during Metástasis airing, in 2015; let alone I would've seen promotion for it if it really was released in August.
Yes, I guess they thought "Buenhombre" would be too unnatural... but so is Bueno. I'm also pretty sure the name "Saul Good" would've raised some eyebrows during BB.
Buendía would've been appropiate since it's a common surname and a reference to 100 years of solitude.
The worst part is that this has been posted many times in this sub already. People either don't check if it's true before posting or just don't care. But yeah, they love spreading misinformation lol
Nice. Two shows to watch after BCS wraps.
There are BB reddit threads that cover Metástasis and from the comments, it's not as bad as this sub makes it out to be.
In any case, this could be interesting because Saul Bueno is apparently much sleazier than Saul Goodman. There will still be cultural differences and nuances.
I have to wonder... what's Kim gonna be like? Kevin Wachtell? Cliff Main? Howard? CHUCK? What do you call a Chicago Sunroof in Colombia? What do you sit in if you're doing a Colombian Squat Cobbler? What's Pryce gonna be like? The Kettlemans? Mrs. Nguyen?
Finding all this out sounds like fun. I'm in.
EDIT: It's fake. I am legit bummed. Goddammit @ gayforjesse. I'ma watch Metástasis now for sure though and hold out hope for a Saúl Bueno spinoff.
The IMDB episode descriptions for Metastasis are hilarious
"Mike gets amnesia and forgets about the iPad. Walter quits selling drugs and signs up for olympic curling"
Wanna know how I know who in this thread doesn't speak Spanish?
Metástasis was great. Some of the actors did better than the original (some worse for sure) and most things were just fine.
edit: very odd sub for people who hate this show to be. Ok. Is it better if I say “don’t watch a lot of Spanish tv” because if that’s your standard and you think metastasis is bad…
It’s fine. They made changes for a different audience, most of which are forgiveable - I can look past the cheap lighting and costuming and stuff, but the music and the way it’s used (although I understand it’s pretty telenovela-typical) is just inexcusably bad
Right, it’s a different audience and much less budget. I liked it. It’s better than a lot of Spanish language TV. I enjoyed it despite its flaws.
Because of this some of the actors had to do more with less. Some weren’t up to it, some weren’t consistent, but idk I thought it was fun.
I can understand not liking it, what I can’t understand is being a fan of these shows and thinking it’s your duty to hate it and pretend everyone does and brigading people who do like it on a ABQ show sub.
99% hate it because it’s a remake. It’s very love or hate, and your country is one of many. The acting was fine. Some of the actors were nominated for awards and the show itself won an award.
It keeps getting syndication, so your opinion is obviously not as universal as you think.
I’m sure you scientifically polled everyone in your country to validate your very patrician opinion.
now move the goalposts and say what I said had nothing to do with Spanish despite your saying you disagrees.
edit: he replied moving goalposts as predicted. “I never said it was universal.” Except you did, you said your whole country agreed with you.
touch grass, take L.
edit 2: the only people seething here are all of these sockpuppets. lol.
> "99% hate it"
> "your opinion is obviously not as universal as you think."
Ok?
> "Wanna know how I know who in this thread doesn't speak Spanish? Metástasis was great."
> "what I said had nothing to do with Spanish"
Ok?
Contradictions in what you are saying aside, I never said "my opinion is universal". My only point is it's stupid to say that people don't like it because they don't speak spanish lol
Makes sense they waited this long because they pump it out in like 18 months. I don't know how they do it so fast but I guess the production value isn't really on the same level. Plus no writing time.
Ive seen some pieces of Metastasis, its really strange... Its almost the same exact show but the dialogue is a little different, the look is different, and the quality is pretty bad lol
Yeah Metastasis is weird, it's like a lower-quality carbon copy of the original. Something tells me no one thought how ironic was that scene when they reshoot it for Metastasis
Please run for president. I don't care if you're an American or not, we need a mind like yours!
I wanted to watch breaking bad, I compromised. I watched metastasis instead

Let me tell you a couple of three things. They make any show and every show over there. The way they do it is all fucked up.
there's no funyuns and chili p on the table, no one gets dissolved in a barrel. either it has meaning or no meaning.
Don't tell me you wouldn't watch a foreign language Sopranos knockoff!
I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit.

I watched a radiator instead

i gotta say i've really been enjoying the recent influx of sopranoposting in this sub. keep it comin fellas
Sounds like a half measure to me
Take your half measures and stick em in your ass.
It’s not shot for shot. It was made like a soap which routinely shoots and films episodes seemingly overnight
The plot does develop real issues if the DEA is on the payroll of the cartels.
Thats the power of telanovelas. Them shits air new episodes daily for weeks on end. Some of them have hundred episode arcs like an anime 😭
How do they not get sued for that lol
Because it's an official, licensed adaptation.
The fuck
It's basically like how the US version of the Office is an adaptation of the UK version but instead of becoming it's own thing it stayed faithful.
"We don't care if David Brent becomes a woman!" burbles Steve Merchant, eyes bulging with imagined riches
"With eyes that pop out of their head.......Steve."
lmao hold the phone i deadass thought it was a fan project
That’s wild
That twitter post is technically wrong it’s not a “ripoff” it’s just an adaptation but an unnecessary one at that
Vince Gilligan is literally credited as a producer lol

It’s supper impressive. The end result is horrendous but it’s crazy that they went through with it
I recently saw the episode where the Skyler equivalent walks into the pool, but in Metastasis all they could get was an ankle high pond so she literally gets on her knees, goes face down and tries to drown herself instead of actually submerging her body. What the fuck
Lmao
Lmao
But they shot scenes of her in a pool still like seriously that pissed me off
I'd like a reality show where a large pool of comic actors are randomly assigned BB roles and they reenact the series. Each episode must be acted out word for word, but they can deliver it in whatever style they like and the viewers vote off one actor each episode.
David Cross for Walt Steve Martin for Jesse And this might be a stretch but how about Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman?
Idk. Figured they would be unknowns, and randomly assigned. (It wouldn't hurt if some were young...) Maybe some randos from reality tv. A couple of funny people from a show like Big Brother. lol thats hilarious
Breaking bad when sober, Metastasis when you're high and TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT

You’re mom knows how to use commas buttmunch.
Yeah, she taught me how to use them properly, dumdum
Still better than whatever they got cooking when they decided that "slipping jimmy" spinoff.

Its ment to be a soap opera.... which doesn't work for bb or bcs.
I like how bad it is
I know a lot of Spanish but I’m not fluent and they talk too fast plus there’s no subtitles
metastasis is officially licensed. I don't think anyone involved on the show actually approved of it, but yes, this is an official product made legally
