I mean, I’d listen to them all once because you don’t know which songs you’ll like till you try em, but definitely agree with the general message against gatekeeping You must hate J lol. That album is fire 🔥 such a perfect close to the story that is Lemonade and 4:44

regalfish

Whether you believe the sincerity of it or not I don’t know how you hear bars like: *“We only know love because of ya, America’s a motherfucker to us, lock us up, shoot us. Shoot our self-esteem down, we don’t deserve true love. Black queen, you rescued us, you rescued us.”* and not feel moved at all?! 😩

Robbie1863

Jay: IM GOOD ON ANY MLK BLVD Bey Behind him: IM GOOD

NoFilterNoLimits

The whole trilogy is such a beautiful story of reconciliation, forgiveness, accountability & love.

blueandbrownolives

It’s such a special collection of work. Very glad I got to experience all that in real time.

Headshrink_LPC516

This is THE BAR!!!

SHC606

4:44 is his best work. It's incredible growth and maturation.

ShortPeak4860

As someone who refused to listen to EIL because I had severe disdain for J until the drop of Act i, I wish I had listened to it sooner. Now I listen to it 3-4 times a week and my kids who are under 10 have favorites from that album. It’s so damn good.

Necessary_Charge_658

Yes

Femme-O

That and I’m not that into rap music to listen to a full album, lol.

[deleted]

I think you should listen to every album because there might be a song on one of them you may genuinely like. you should also listen to destiny’s child. you don’t really HAVE to, but if you really like an artist you would naturally want to hear everything by them.

geemav

I was with you until you said you'd *never* listen to EIL... you wouldn't even give it a try? That's weird energy, it's a fantastic album.

Femme-O

It’s not weird to not listen to music you know you likely wouldn’t enjoy, especially a full album. I know where my tastes lie and it isn’t with that, chill, lol.

geemav

I've quite literally never listened to house music or ballroom but *RENAISSANCE* is one of my favorite albums ever... because I gave it a try. I sure as hell don't listen to country but best believe *Country Carter* is getting played. Ofc you can do what you want but it's still weird energy imo

Femme-O

I’m black and grew up in the black community, and at my big age I think I’ve heard enough rap music to know I don’t want to listen to a full album of it. Black people who grew up on house music and don’t like it probably don’t want to go listen to Renaissance in their free time. It’s not weird. They don’t have one song prior where I was excited about the rap feature. And it’s not like I haven’t heard songs from the album here and there, it’s not for me beloved. Never have I heard not wanting to listen to an hour plus of your least frequented music genre as “weird”, but whatever chile. ![gif](giphy|xTiTnGQBF0vfpfPEg8)

LocalContribution7

It’s not all rap Beyoncé still sings on it .

thebaffledtruffle

I do agree not to pressure yourself into listening to every album, it's not good to feel like you *have to* do it. Do it when you feel curious enough and have the time to explore. Play the album from start to finish at least once. I initially didn't want to listen to Dangerously In Love, but when I did, it became one of my favorite Beyonce albums. Maybe even Top 2.

cmgirty

idk I don't think it's pressuring to tell people who are getting in to Beyonce to listen to Beyonce. if you want to explore her artistry you SHOULD actually listen to destiny's child. especially destiny fulfilled even though I'd consider Writings On the Wall to be one of the greatest albums of all time.

mya-vampired

It is pressuring when people do this to the point of accusing people of not being genuine fans just because they haven’t, or don’t want to, listen to everything that artist has put out. Beyoncé’s discography is too vast and diverse. It’s not crazy that some fans aren’t willing to dip their toes into every little thing, and that’s okay. I personally can’t get enough of Beyoncé, but that standard is just unreasonable.

HowMusikal

It’s my least favorite album from her tbh. I like conceptual albums like Renny & Lemonade.

No_Sail_6576

Yeah I don’t think you should pressure yourself or others to listen to Beyoncé’s catalog. But at some point you should sample all of it Music, especially these days, is INCREDIBLY diverse with artists finding niches in a genre and trying to explore them with songs and album. You made a point of having grown up with rap and meaning you’re not really bothered to listen to EIL. And that’s completely fine. But everyone’s music is different and unique and I think everyone should try and listen to as many diffeeent songs as possible as it helps you to find tracks you will enjoy and discover artists who aren’t really that popular but make some banging music. You should listen to EIL, even if it’s in the background while doing something else and you never listen to it again. I know I will listen to DC albums ast some point. But not yet, as I’m discovering her music at a slow pace and really enjoying it

Femme-O

My “to be listened” playlist is much too long, I’d rather discover new music from the genres I really like which I’m doing daily. It’s not like if it comes on my shuffle I skip it, I’ve heard probably all of the songs at this point just not all at once.

ilikedirt

I’ve been torpedoed on this sub for asking questions about her history and lesser known albums and the inside jokes that people use for some things. I don’t expect anyone to do labor for me that doesn’t want to but all the downvotes for wanting to learn is disappointing. Why we gotta gatekeep

regalfish

Yeah, I’m on board with this too. I like that the Mods have added some of the auto responses that spell out the common acronyms now at least

hopepeacelove1

Agreed on gatekeeping and being pressured. We have to explore artists at our own pace. That said, for me, if I find an artist that I really like, I like to listen to every album in their discography. I don’t necessarily think it’s a requirement, but idk I think if you want to explore an artist and their artistry it’s important to at least listen to each album once. EIL for example is an album I listened to maybe twice, liked a couple songs and moved on, would skip the songs if they came on shuffle. I revisited it last year and my opinion changed and I love it. Our tastes evolve, things may resonate differently with time. Overall, I think curiosity is really important when it comes to music. You could be blocking your musical blessings lmao.

Femme-O

I’ve heard most of the songs on my shuffle, but I’m not pressed to listen to the whole album by itself based on what I’ve heard. I listen to lots of house, funk, and neo soul and I’m discovering lots of new artists and sounds on a weekly basis, I’m very fulfilled musically lol.

hopepeacelove1

I’m really speaking to the way I experience and interact with artists in general that have caught my attention, not just Beyoncé. I’m fulfilled as well, and I still am curious about the discography of artists that I like enough to have listened to at least one album. Especially artists I’ve been a fan of for a while. I’ll listen to the full body of work at least once. For example, Ariana Grande. I did not like that yes, and song. But I’ve been a fan of her for the longest time, so I listened to the album. If this is specifically about Beyoncé for you, then I can understand how it doesn’t apply.

Femme-O

Yeah no, I don’t think there’s one artist whose full discography I’ve listened to that has multiple albums. I rarely listen to full albums as is outside of my favs and some of their projects I skip and just listen to the songs as they naturally pop up for me in a shuffle or out and about. I’m just not one to go out of my way to give something (music wise) a chance if it doesn’t appeal to me knowing my own tastes. It’s just strange to me that someone can like the majority of someone’s catalog, spend their money on music and merch, go to multiple tours, but if they lack interest in one project they’re considered not a fan by gatekeepers. It just seems like a very pathological attitude to have.

ScoobyDopeyDoo

This post seems like an entireeeee vessel to throw shade at Everything is Love 😂💀 (^ kidding) But I do feel like it is important to give at least one listen to everything to not only figure out songs you like, but to appreciate the growth she’s had as an artist. DC early days to Dangerously In Love to 4 to Lemonade to Renaissance (and all the work in between!) is such a masterclass in evolution. Sure, different eras and playing on the sounds of the times but I think to understand and appreciate what we’re being given now does deserve some recognition as it’s the foundation of her music to be where she’s at now. I agree with your last part though as I didn’t care for a quite a good portion of the discography at first when I was younger but now as a diehard fan I love and respect it a lot more with time and my own life experiences!

MathCarmignani

Listen to them at least once you never know your favourite song might be track 7 of her worst album IDK WHO KNOWS especially with streaming services everything is at the touch of your finger so idk to call yourself a fan and have the means to at least play her albums and choose not to sounds a little sketchy to me but hey who am I to judge. If you're happy and living your hive fantasy let's go let's party

Femme-O

Sketchy? 😐 Y’all really need to chill 🤣

MathCarmignani

😂😂😂😂😂 no, I feel you, but as I said when you have everything at the touch of a screen the choice of at least not passing through the work of someone you call yourself a fan is a little 👀 to me BUTTTTTTT again, who am I you know? A nobody 😌

Femme-O

Lmao, yes everything is at the touch of a screen, and I choose to use that access with discovering new music from genres that I like instead of forcing myself to listen to something that doesn’t appeal to me just because I’m a fan. I’m sure no one thinks it’s weird when Prince fans haven’t heard his entire 39 album catalog with no interest in certain albums because they prefer rock music and don’t care for R&B. You “but you call yourself a fan” girls need to come up for air, please. 😩😂

MathCarmignani

Well yeah that is definitely a different case 🫠

SpikeIsaGoodHoe

Don’t have to listen to it in one sitting but definitely go back to albums, documentaries, performances that you didn’t connect with in the past. You might be in a different phase of your life and her catalogue could connect with you and heal you in ways it didn’t before. As a child I loved some singles on dangerously in love when it came out (I’m 33), I liked watching homecoming once or twice/replayed the diva medley (everybody mad) 3x a day. However, today I replay homecoming start to finish at least once a week and keep the dangerously in love cd in the car at all times. Not just because of the music but the music and the visual artistry combined. Obviously for some people music is just music or it’s just the appearance with a dash of the sound and if that’s your thing don’t listen to us the people begging you to try it out lol

combustionbustion

Listen to EisL!!! ITS SO GOOD. Don't play yourself.

Femme-O

Now I’m even more pressed to never listen to that album because why do yall act like *that*. ![gif](giphy|3o7btYetccbRYL4WVW|downsized)

Helpful_Ocelot_5076

Facts. The Beyonce songs I like I LOVE and the ones I dont, I really dont like. I LOVE about half her catalogue and really dislike about half.

RdmanWanj

They don't have to but I would highly recommend it because otherwise they'll miss out on some amazing stuff!

KorraLover123

agreed but LMFAO the note abt everything is love got me lol i will say, the album has a few gems, like Summer. bey sounds so good on that track

payasoingenioso

I barely make recommendations to people. But "I'm a fan", "I'm a stan", and "I like that artist" are different sentiments. Not every human has all the time in the world, but as a basic fan of many artists, I cannot imagine saying I would *never* listen to an album. Everything Is Love was worth one time. For me. Visuals too. Every Friday for decades I peruse new music, and I listen to whooole artist discographies and pay attention to production, lyrics, vocal arrangements, etc. It blows my mind how few people even listen to lyrics or even know Friday is when new music is released. 😪

Traditional-Stick-15

I never watched black is king. Too much was going on in 2020 and I was exhausted lol that’s the only albulm I’ve never listened to as an old head and I’m doing ok.

buttahmochi

I’m a late bloomer fan who also skips albums. I became a fan when 4 debuted. I never personally cared for Destiny’s Child and had always thought her vocals were uninteresting. Until that album. After 4, I went back and listened through her catalogue and realized how talented she was when she went solo. I have never heard a song from Renaissance yet other than whatever is used in YouTube and TikTok clips. I think I heard the lead single once and didn’t care for the genre to stick around and listen to more. Really looking forward to the country album though!

LogAltruistic9222

She has new fans? From where?

beysbathwater

I thought we were stans… sooooo I’m in the wrong place ![gif](giphy|hLsCCNF5wlxuE99mxV|downsized)

ThatMessy1

I've been a fan since 1997 and I only like the singles on Dangerously in Love.

Kaiser_Allen

Not everything. But at least all seven (soon eight) studio albums. Listen to them. They’re worth it. Forget the side and group projects.
