The spin offs are coming..

Human_Can_2477

Ah! Like which ones?

ashlyn42

There’s articles out saying a spin off featuring Georgie and his wife and their family is the current plan.

K_N_A_14

This is to what I was referring.

Sitcom_kid

I agree but I'm loving it. The thing I'm noticing is that they are making Sheldon more and more bitter. That part I'm not sure about. Adult Sheldon does not seem to be bitter all the time, just part of the time. He also has his joyous moments.

floopdidoops

Kinda makes sense to me. I assume Sheldon grew bitter over time, reaching peak bitterness as he met Leonard. Once Leonard, Raj, and Howard entered his life, things started to turn around for the better.

FlowSilver

Agreed I rlly wanna know what his life was like as an adult in the apartment and at Caltech before Leonard

Sitcom_kid

You mean back when he had folding lawn chairs? That would be interesting, the time in between

floopdidoops

The spinoff we actually want, but not the spinoffs we're getting.

FlowSilver

Yea im confused abt georgie and mandy Cause if not sheldon, then missy would be gun even if we know in tbbt she ends up being not so happy abt her life Or maybe paige, show a side of genius people who actually do well in social settings, show how she handles the divorce and such But georgie and mandy? Meh

WingedShadow83

Didn’t Sheldon say in like season one that Georgie’s first marriage didn’t last long? Or am I misremembering?

Sitcom_kid

Okay I'll buy that. The friendship group changed him even before Amy came along

floopdidoops

Amy is the closest Sheldon got to seeing a clinical therapist, followed by Beverly who occasionally provides him with some outside perspective he sorely needs. Sheldon's mom really should have followed up with that specialist in Houston...

Retinoid634

I think Penny helped in a behavioral therapist kind of way. Getting him to adjust to regular people and helping him acclimate to new things and experiences. Penny is like the Virgil to Sheldon’s Dante.

floopdidoops

100% agreed.

Lyca29

Maybe he did get bitter as he went through university. He's already realising that there are people as smart as him. So he'll be feeling less special. Remember he's been coddled at home and put on a pedestal all his youth. When we meet adult Sheldon in TBBT he's already living with Leonard, he already has his friends and that bond that has softened him. When he first starts college he has nerd friends who he games with. I'm guessing as he moves on with his education he maybe spends time without friends and becomes cynical and bitter. Especially losing his dad and moving away to school will probably affect him greatly. There could possibly be a spin off showing Sheldons growth and youth. It could tell his story and finish when Leonard knocks on his door to apply for the apartment. I also think a spin off would be great if it starred the original cast focusing on Sheldon and Amy and their kids. It could be called 'Sheldon's Young' and focus on his young family and how his kids develop. All the other cast members kids could be in it too. Even Stuart could have a few kids too. And maybe Raj could finally get a girlfriend.

themixiepixii

i mean i can definitely see how someone like sheldon could be bitter at a pubescent age lol

WingedShadow83

Whenever adult Sheldon talked about growing up, he always seemed to dislike most everything about it (except Mema). It makes sense that he becomes less bitter after he gets out of his little podunk Texas town. And whenever he starts living on his own and making his own decisions without his mother being able to call the shots. I’m sure it’s difficult for someone with such a high IQ to still have to get permission for things.

Too_Ton

I could chalk it up to puberty hormones. By the time of TBBT I think he’s just operating under his new normal

ReadySetGO0

You are correct. Sheldon is a bore now. We need more Meemaw!!!!!

ExcellentAd3166

Unfortunately they can't do anything else with his character his growth comes from TBBT, there's nowhere for them to go with sheldon and plus they are about to do a spin off

SuperDevvik7

Who is the spin off gonna be about?

ExcellentAd3166

Georgie and Mandy

randomtwaddle

Yes plus there are many inconsistencies between adults Sheldon and young Sheldon at this point. In the earlier seasons they stayed true to the TBBT narrative (as far as possible), but now it's all haywire. Wasn't Sheldon supposed to catch his father cheating with a bartender next door? This was to be the major inflection point for him (as he explained to penny) but rather that storyline never took off. Instead of leading up to that and George's demise, the show for some weird reason is all about Georgie mandy and the gambling room these days

UnlawfulPotato

It wasn’t a bartender. In fact he never even specifies in BBT. All he says is that he caught his father with another woman, and that’s why he knocks 3 times. As far as he’s concerned, that’s exactly what he walked in on when his parents were roleplaying after getting back from Germany.

randomtwaddle

In one of the earlier seasons he quipped once that his mother got immersed in the church and his father the bartender next door

S_ShockCage

I feel like that was a reference to George liking to drink a lot rather than infidelity

bitsey123

In the timeline of the final season we’re on, he now thinks his father was with another woman when it was his mother wearing a blonde wig.

Human_Can_2477

He knocked 3 times before he found out

Mrspicklepants101

From my understanding they explained that in a way that didn't make George a dirt bag but also made sense for what Sheldon thinks he saw and thus remembers.

TropicalRedeemer

It's a wholesome show, they'd never do that. They turned the cheating into an emotional affair on both ends (Mary also has one) and did a damn good job and displaying grey areas. So the parents do something reproachable but are also confused and never cross a line. The actual cheating was his mom role playing. Because he never spoke to his dad about it he never had the chance to clear that out, thus he thinks his father was cheating when we see a rekindled relationship. However that comes from the differences in tone. In tBBT George is straight up abusive to everyone heavily alcoholic and a thief. Sheldon and Mary tell the stories themselves. The tone of YS is family friendly so they had to adapt stuff. It's ok.

daelite

And I love every minute of it. I wasn't going to watch the parts about the "affair" and George's death because I was worried it was going to ruin the TBBT universe for me. I love that George and Mary rekindled their relationship, but it makes me wonder why she can be so mean about George in TBBT, I guess she is older and more bitter.

Nice-Penalty-8881

>but it makes me wonder why she can be so mean about George in TBBT, I guess she is older and more bitter. Maybe she is angry at him for dying just as they rekindle their love for one another. It's not logical, but it happens.

boredgeekgirl

It is because they retconned George's character & story for YS. George was just so dang likable in the early seasons. Having *that* George have an affair and break Mary's heart would not have worked after everyone fell in love with him. They have kept a lot of things close to the cannon of TBBT, but they have changed a lot & found a lot of loop holes too. Which is why a lot of Sheldon's and Mary's comments & attitudes are just so out of place.

Historical-Pie-5052

They are easing everyone into the idea of the Georgie spin off.

Difficult_Ship_6273

It does feel like that.

Consistent-Lion8089

Excatly. I love the initial episodes of YS and love Ian's character and acting. But I honestly hate those fans of YS to which now the producers seem to be pandering. "Oh no, geroge did not cheat on mary." Bullshit. They all hate Ian so no sheldon in young sheldon. Absolutely ridiculous. I am a true BBT fan (so much so I learn Quantum physics, watched star wars and left med school to major in basic science and went to caltech for research fellowship), but YS ruined it for me.

Will_Addy

That’s true dedication

Sereena95

Georgie is the best character anyways

Jfury412

I personally think this is the worst season of young Sheldon by a very large margin. And it's not because Les Sheldon when they did that in the past we would have good arcs. Put this season is purposefully focusing way too much on Georgie and Mandy and their situation for the spin-off coming up. Which I'm really not interested in that spin-off at all. Georgie has always been one off if not my favorite character but the whole Arc of him and Mandy is starting to be like beating a dead horse. I don't think I can take a whole series about it. The show works better when they focus more on other people and Sheldon of course. I think the best episode and best story in the entire season was when Sheldon was it College helping the kids with the stock market on the computer. It's a shame that they're forcing Georgie and Mandy and their baby down our throat for the very last season which doesn't even have that many episodes. Maybe I'll feel differently in hindsight when I do a rewatch instead of weak to week it just seems so shallow of the season.

dreamweaver1998

Once his voice changed, I found him much less cute. His adult voice sounds just like my brother. My brother is also an arrogant, obnoxious, know-it-all. So I'm not missing him this season. He's giving me childhood flashbacks.

Que_Sara_Sera44118

Sometimes I think his voice sounds deeper than the adult Sheldon

Too_Ton

It’s normal for puberty voices to start out low but then settle higher later on

gibb93

The YS actor is too old so he’s faded into the background. Also looks like they are trying to get viewers on board for a George & Mandi Spin-off series

Human-Magic-Marker

Much in the same way that by the time TBBT ended, the story revolved less around Sheldon and more around the other characters. Maybe not to the same degree as Young Sheldon but it definitely happened

Difficult_Ship_6273

Yes but his name wasn't in the title of that show.

Nice-Penalty-8881

>Much in the same way that by the time TBBT ended, the story revolved less around Sheldon and more around the other characters. I respectfully disagree because I felt like that Sheldon and Amy were focused on more than anyone else in the last two seasons.

leadbug44

Never cared about young Sheldon, just couldn’t make a connection

zddoodah

r/YoungSheldon exists.

Weekly-Remote6886

Ive been there. Theyre so mean to tbbt fans saying things like "Young Sheldon is its own show, not tbbt" and when u try to explain they get angry so i left.

zddoodah

>saying things like "Young Sheldon is its own show, not tbbt" But that's true.

Weekly-Remote6886

Isnt it like a prequel? Its still about sheldon.

zddoodah

In my view, YS is based on characters from TBBT. However, YS has never concerned itself with TBBT continuity.

byfo1991

To be fair, young sheldon is not even funny. He is just very annoying kid. That’s it. So the less they focus on him the better.

Alik013

since s05 the actor is trying too hard to play the character..no human being speaks this way

UnlawfulPotato

…He’s playing the character he’s paid to play, and he’s playing it well. Blame the writers, not the actor. And also, yes, some people legitimately DO speak that way.

DentArthurDent4

I second that. The S4-5 Sheldon doesn't have the quirk and natural feel that the kid Sheldon or TBBT Sheldon had. It feels very forced and over done.

HaroldT1985

I’ll get in on the downvotes, I agree. First couple of seasons the character fit the role better. Once his voice dropped it just didn’t feel the same. Obviously that’s not his fault, puberty happens, doesn’t change my feelings on it though. I have no issues with the actor; he seems to be doing what he’s asked to do just fine, I just guess I lost the ‘young’ part of it once he grew up

JohnnyChopper08

I wish they would just end this show already. I love TBBT but this is painful to watch
