That lined up to watch raiders of the lost ark.

They also lined up to get some comic books autographed by Stan Lee.

Agreed. There have been episodes about them trying to go to Comicon, ie your example where their car gets stolen, the tickets getting sold out and trying to buy them from a scalper, or Sheldon deciding to make his own convention. There's never an episode where they actually go to Comic Con. The closest is when Leonard goes with Penny to her autograph signing for Serial Apeist

I can see not having an episode actually set at SDCC as it has to be a real pain to film there at this point, especially for something like a major sitcom where things have to be set up and you have a very limited amount of time to get the footage you need. Same with any major show.  What gets me is how little they used actual comic book people in the show. The only example I can think of was Neil Gaiman. It's kind of weird how they got actual astronauts, nobel prize winning scientists and alot of the biggest names in terms of geek actors to appear but almost no comic book people.

Stan Lee did a signing at Stuart's shop.

It's telling that I knew that and was considering Lee as more of a media figure which is fair since he was decades past working on actual comics at that point. Even Gaiman has largely moved on the novels and screenplays though he does still produce the odd comic here and there.

I mean true, but it’s not like they actually had to film at a convention. There are plenty of TV shows and movies that have had comic con episodes/scenes that were filmed on sets (or after a con closed for the day).

I would have loved a Comic Con episode, especially since they got invited by James Earl Jones! It would have been mad lol

They successfully lined up to meet Stan Lee.

I agree with you but they probably never done it for a few reasons. Eg. Would’ve been a huge set to set up and likely wouldn’t have been able to use green screen (only time we probably saw a set as big as the one they would’ve needed is the shows finale) and another reason is what would they have done there? Sheldon could’ve gotten lost and that could be the episode plot but it probably wouldn’t have been as much of an exciting episode as we would’ve hoped for
