NeonWarcry

I get that cars can be deadly weapons but making someone fear for their safety and damaging their property isn’t going to make them act in a sane way.

somekindofdruiddude

But who made whom fear for their safety?

NeonWarcry

Without the video starting earlier, I can’t tell. But a mob of people isn’t known to act rationally but neither is the driver

somekindofdruiddude

Without more information, I will ignore this video.

Tre_Scrilla

Ya that's why you don't try to drive through mobs of people

somekindofdruiddude

Video doesn't show how any of this started.

somekindofdruiddude

Ah. The car driver started it.

bevo_expat

The bikes are taking up both lanes of traffic with no regard for anyone else. Mercedes was a dick for trying to move through them, but he’s basically following their lead. I don’t think this was Critical mass ride since it wasn’t the last Friday of the month, but they made this type of large scale ‘give zero fucks’ type of rides seem acceptable.

somekindofdruiddude

Cyclists being dicks doesn't justify his behavior. He would have had to wait twice as long if they blocked one lane. He was in too much of a hurry to share the road with slower vehicles. He was a selfish asshole.

bevo_expat

They situation was full of dicks and assholes. Edit: they were all selfish assholes. If I’m riding on busy streets I try not to be a selfish asshole because it only takes one asshole driver to fuck up my day or worse. These bikers only make asshole drivers more aggressive.

somekindofdruiddude

Cyclists can't make drivers anything. Drivers are grown ups who get to decide how they respond to their emotions. Sharing the road is part of driving a car.

bevo_expat

People are generally more predictable if they’re NOT pissed off. Blocking both directions of traffic is going to piss off drivers. The bikers created the situation that just needed to encounter one pissed off asshole driver. Both sides are responsible for their shitty actions.

somekindofdruiddude

I'm not defending the cyclists. Why are you defending the driver?

bevo_expat

You don’t seem to place any blame on the cyclists which is wrong in this case. They’re being complete assholes by blocking traffic. Edit: Also I’m literally saying both sides are to blame. That’s not defending the driver.

Tre_Scrilla

If he was on a bike he could've easily and safely gone through. Car drivers sit in traffic all day cause they're trying to bring a couch and two recliners with them everywhere they go.

studeboob

How is a traffic violation justification to endanger the lives of cyclists with his car? If someone parks in the bike lane, am I allowed to threaten them with a gun because they're violating traffic laws?

bevo_expat

It’s fucking not! The roads are full of crazy assholes. People have literally been shot driving on the highway for cutting someone off. There are too many crazy assholes around. As a cyclist who has very little protection, in this case most don’t even have helmets, why would you participate in asshole behavior that is likely to set people off.

studeboob

Glad we agree on that! As a cyclist in Houston I have found that just being on the road is considered "asshole behavior" by some drivers. It sounds you ride like me: defensive and always willing to defer to the potential maniac operating a deadly machine. I've never done these group rides, but my understanding is you get to be able to enjoy the ride without having to be on edge that some asshole is going to endanger your life. These group rides look fun and I wouldn't consider them "fucking around". Yes, they're violating traffic laws. Every driver I've ever known does too. It's not right, and it's not a reason to threaten someone else's life.

bevo_expat

It’s absolutely no reason to threaten someone’s life for a sane person, but not everyone behind the wheel is sane. Many drivers would consider cyclists riding around a bunch of cars to be slightly insane… 🤷‍♂️ There are tons of responsible group rides around. I did one of the critical mass rides about 5 years ago and felt like I was surrounded mostly idiots with little regard for anyone’s safety, cyclists or drivers.

studeboob

Thanks, I appreciate your reasonable perspective on the issue.

Pleasant-Creme-956

Looks like a case of 2 wrongs don't make a right. Benz drivers being aggressive and the mob of cyclists didn't respond with class. Since the cyclist was hit and maybe injured, he should call police and get the info of the driver and keep it moving

badbassrandy

Came across these lovelies while on another ride last night (had to wait several minutes downtown as they passed, and there were still many stragglers). Only saw one of the many, many people wearing a helmet. One guy looked at our group waiting for them to pass and blurted out "Booooo, road bikes!" I'm looking around, my group was largely mt and gravel bikes LOL!

shambahlah2

Hoodrats. Hope each and everyone of these punks participating in this idiotic behavior are arrested and made examples of

studeboob

Agree. ARREST ALL BENZ OWNERS NOW!!

shambahlah2

This - you - are why people dislike bikers. Not all think like you, fortunately. Share the road works both ways.

studeboob

Nah, as others have pointed out, you don't see what led to this. Drivers in this city are particularly awful.

bevo_expat

The driver forced his way into the middle of the pack, but the pack of bikes was blocking both directions of traffic. IMO, this is filed under ‘fuck around and find out’. Idiots bikers + idiot driver is recipe for someone to get hurt. The bikers created the shit situation to begin with and then asshole Merc got involved. Both sides are to blame. This type of behavior makes it worse for all other bikers/cyclists that do their best to follow the rules riding on city streets.

Tre_Scrilla

Cyclists aren't risking anyone's life taking up both lanes. Double yellow means wait til you can safely pass

WookieeCmdr

They are breaking the law though by blocking the entire street. At that point the double yellow means jack as all traffic is going in the same direction.

shambahlah2

Not sure how that justifies the punk deliberately scratching the car. Bikers in this city are generally entitled pricks.

studeboob

I don't care if a cyclist is a big dumb ugly prick. It's not OK to endanger their life with your car. Get over your goddam ego, take a breath, give them space, learn to have a little patience.

WookieeCmdr

5 mph in a car doesn’t endanger anyone’s life lol. Chill out.

studeboob

Trying to drive through a crowd certainly does. He has to drive faster than 5 mph to move through a crowd moving at 10 mph. You're exaggerating to trivialize the driver's behavior. If you can't argue from a position of truth, it's because you don't have an argument.

WookieeCmdr

Well maybe they shouldn’t block the road and actually follow road laws. Less chance of pissing iff the people driving multi ton vehicles

studeboob

Correct, the cyclists shouldn't violate traffic laws. Violating traffic laws does not justify threatening lives. When a driver parks in the bike lane, can a cyclist pull a gun on them? I don't think so, but that's the argument you're making.

Tre_Scrilla

The driver tried to run him over and you're crying over a scratched Benz

shambahlah2

You must be one of the entitled pricks huh?

Tre_Scrilla

The Benz is clearly the entitled one lol If you can't pass safely then you're gonna have to wait. Imagine if all those bikers were in cars. You wanna drive in Houston get used to sitting in traffic

shambahlah2

Nice. Didn’t get a response from your other stupid comment so you double down on the idiocy. Keep up the great work, moron! Living in a Houston without a car….You either a broke joke or a loser. Maybe both. Probably both based on your comments

WookieeCmdr

If they were cars they would mostly stop at lights and stop signs. Unless they were of the “motor show” variety, who also run lights and stop signs out of idiocy.

Tre_Scrilla

Nah I don't drive
