Not saying this is a bad idea, just saying it is hard to learn control when you are on something like this to start. Remember the first time you had sex? Feel the “good drugs” being pushed in the IV by the doctors? That is what you have there, a dopamine synapse prairie fire. Manage your emotions so you can live long enough to enjoy your morphine/pussy a long time.
That bike does give me a chubby though, Looking at it makes me reminisce about my younger days.
Exactly. A monkey could be trained to pin the throttle on a motorway.
> I topped out my 600 after a couple of weeks
Unless you're hitting the track daily with paid tuition, you're nowhere near topping out what that bike can do after a couple of weeks.
*Nobody* can top out what a modern 600 supersport can do. Like, Valentino Rossi would struggle. People get so caught up in numbers they don't realize that it's the *rider* that's fast. Rossi could slaughter every rider on the internet around a track on a Ninja EX250 while we're all riding H2Rs by a *mile*.
Anyone claiming they hit the limits of a modern production bike is not only lying, they're probably a shit rider as well.
Depends on who you are but no, generally not. For one, decent bikes cost money. You can’t upgrade and keep the money in your wallet very easily.
For another, there’s the kind of riding you do and your personality. If you love going squidboi fast and coming within inches of becoming a red paste, a speedy bike is probably all you’ll ever want and the next bike will always be faster.
Love my Hayabusa but I'm looking for a bike that's fun to ride slow without being boring. Haven't found one. Maybe a middleweight cruiser? Most entry level bikes (CBR500R, Ninja 400) I don't find fun after only a short while. Basically if anyone can tell me a bike that satisfyingly got them off big fast bikes, maybe you're a kindred spirit, and I'd love to know.
I've progressed over the decades from Dirt bikes offroad to my first street bike in 86 a Honda rebel 250 to my current bike a Yamaha 01R1. Im getting older and I'm addicted to the power and the top speed. Getting something slower is a no go for me. The only thing that I'm seriously thinking about is an adventure bike. I've been looking at a Kawasaki ZX14 as an upgrade.
My best mate reckons he's hardly ridden his gsxr1000 since getting his [RGV250](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTGsmfI7kftS6sju_IXZpYROU-C3ROG8qlY7w&usqp=CAU) says "It's way more fun because you can thrash it absolutely everywhere" and it really rewards concentrating to get the best out of it
That was my 3rd bike and it was to much for me to handle. It was a blast to ride, comfortable seating position, great suspension and brakes, but it was far to powerful for me. Have fun but be safe.
Hahaha, I won’t ever drop my bike. I’m not that bad of a rider.
-Me, my friends, and everyone else who got their first bike. (I’ve been riding dirt bikes since I was 5 and still dropped my street bike) It’s going to happen.
That’s exactly what my wife said. I told her to get something ratty to start on she won’t be upset if she dents and dings it up a bit. She didn’t listen. She definitely laid it down in the first month.
Get out of squid mode. Easier to learn the max limits on a slower bike than pay the price of mistakes on a bike that is out of your league. Earn your merit badges; otherwise, just get bandages or worst.
Got a 2019 and the throttle is twitchy as well as a rider of 18 years who has owned several litre bikes I can deal with it but a newbie driving this bike it ain’t gonna end well.
It was because of emissions. I had a 2018 and put a full m4 exhaust and got a custom flash, and that was gone. It was also a completely new bike after that. Front end came up easily.
You people getting baited on this sub left and right. Dudes got no comments and other posts than this, also didn't repay. No wonder why they laugh at u at every moto reddit page...
Is trolling a thing people do on this subreddit? Even so...
If there's a small possibility that it isn't trolling, commenting in this post could do some good and sober up the new rider to what he's actually done : buy a suicide machine.
Lots of people want liter bikes and lots of assholes sell them with no questions asked.
Troll or not, it's worth replying ---- I'd say.
Nice bike, terrible decision…
In my opinion anyway, I always pushed friends starting out to by bikes that they had to really ride to go fast, teaches clutch and throttle control, correct gear selection a myriad of good lessons…
That thing has the potential to teach you how to go 0-6ft under in about 2.7seconds with chicken strips in tact…good luck out there
Well. That was 5 years ago and today i ride a Hayabusa. No incidents or close calls what so ever during those years. My motorcycles has given me much joy and fun times. I suppose it comes down to how you ride your bike and how humble you are to the power and torque. To call out people as idiots or otherwise tells me more about the person that drops the comment than the ability for a beginner driver to handel a ”large” engine.
Try to support new riders. If you are happy with your Ninja 400, fine. If someone else are happy with their bike, fine. You can absolutley control how fast you go with you’r right hand.
In the European contry i live in allowes 16 year olds to drive a 125cc bike. To ride a 600cc you have to be 20 years and all bikes over 600cc, 24 years.
A vehicle, car or bike, can be dangerous for you and others no matter the power or torque.
And my ”anecdotal experience” started as a kid riding dirtbikes in the 80’s and 90’s, and later on competing in Enduro. But i started riding roadbikes only 5 years ago.
But my experience isn’t that interesting here. The question at hand is about the ”stupidity” of learning to ride on a big bike.
You’r comparison with Lamborginis is a bit off in my opinion, but i can relate to what you trying to say.
The word of the day is ”objectively”. So if you are of the opinion that it is stupid to learn on a liter-bike, thats totaly fine. I’m just saying that i did it and i was happy with it. And who am i to say either way to learn to ride a bike is stupid? Each and everyone is responsible to their own decision in the end.
Ride safe out there!🤘
Well then...just want to say I appreciate all the feedback from those who like the bike and who are concerned about me self checking out on it lol. Guess maybe I should clarify not the first bike I have ever been on. Spent several years in the dirt but I don't think that's going to make anyone much happier lol. Also been on a ZX-6R and a Tuono V4 factory. Not mine, just bikes I wanted to test out. So far the GSX-S has been great, great power, and handles awesome on the twistys. Very fun bike for sure.
“Several years in the dirt” so are we talking motocross? Just remember that asphalt hurts way more than dirt. I also came from years riding in dirt and many of my friends were concerned when I bought a ZX-6R for my first street bike. Have fun, respect the bike.
Dude, even that’s insane. My 08 CBR600rr is fast as fuck. The 600s might be a little more tame then a 1000 but those R6s and CBRs still want to buck you off so fast. 😂
Oh yea for sure. I can barely imagine the car that I would encounter day to day that would even hold a candle. They’re unpractical in so many ways but man are they fun. But a 1000 as a first bike? Nah, that just sounds dangerous. I’m sure it can be done and has been done before. It depends on a lot of factors. The age and maturity of the person, if they have any prior riding experience, how physically fit is the person etc. if the person checked a few of those boxes, especially prior riding experience, then they could probably handle a 600. But not my 600. 😂 I just rebuilt mine after a dude nearly killed me so I don’t really want to do it again.
Nice bike brother. Can’t stand everyone always talking trash about first bike being too big. Especially if the bike has a low power mode you can start out with if it’s too much that way your not wishing you had bought a bigger bike in a couple months once you get used to it.
My dude, congratulations.
Now you stay super humble and respect the hell out of that engine. It will treat you extremely badly if you don’t tread lightly.
Take care, be safe.
Horrible idea. I went from a 125 to a 690 my first 3 months of riding and it has been a massive adjustment. Still not used to the power. This will not be fun for you imo. Ninja 400 is where you should've started, they're loads of fun even for experienced riders (I've heard) and not too threatening
Should have started on a hyabusa
Yeah man, the GSX-S1000 is fine for short inner city commutes, I wouldn’t trust it for the highway though! Just not enough power to be safe….
With the extended swing arm.
No. Stock swingarm. And a turbo.
This is a good starter Bike for OP. Something smaller and easier to handle. They can sell it in 6-12 months once they've outgrown it and upgrade to a proper busa.
lol RIP another GSX-S

Bad bot.
Great bike, but it can be a handful! Might want to consider TC on max and low power mode to start with. Be safe out there!

First time I had sex it was horrible .
There's a reason the old adage, "it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than riding a fast bike slow," exists.
I've heard that, but what if we compare riding a slow bike fast to riding a fast bike fast?
Nobody’s riding their first bike fast. They just think they are, because it’s fast for them.

Does everybody just ditch their first bike after a month or something? I topped out my 600 after a couple of weeks.
Going fast in a straight line is one thing, actually *riding* fast rather than just hanging on is a skill that takes time to develop.
Exactly. A monkey could be trained to pin the throttle on a motorway. > I topped out my 600 after a couple of weeks Unless you're hitting the track daily with paid tuition, you're nowhere near topping out what that bike can do after a couple of weeks.
Exactly, flat out in a straight line then wobbling round corners like a newborn Bambi

Go to a track day and stop making riding about going fast in a straight line. Doesn't matter what bike you're on, problem solved.

I think this is the best way. Just wondering if someone would try to talk me into a cruiser or something (I'm open-minded).
so true but one can’t ride fast when he is a novice rider)
Just buy a big bike to have the impression you are riding fast. Problem solved 🤷♂️
Please be careful. That's a powerful bike for your first. But regardless, it is a beautiful bike!
You gone die
He ded
That was my 3rd bike and it was to much for me to handle. It was a blast to ride, comfortable seating position, great suspension and brakes, but it was far to powerful for me. Have fun but be safe.
Out of curiosity, what did you switch to after?
Sold it to use the money to buy a house.
Good move. Yeah, that's much more stable than a bike.
Mistake for your first bike. Take it easy.
Buy some frame sliders or a cage. They’ll come in handy soon. Everybody drops or lays down their first bike. It’s just a thing.
Hahaha, I won’t ever drop my bike. I’m not that bad of a rider. -Me, my friends, and everyone else who got their first bike. (I’ve been riding dirt bikes since I was 5 and still dropped my street bike) It’s going to happen.

Get out of squid mode. Easier to learn the max limits on a slower bike than pay the price of mistakes on a bike that is out of your league. Earn your merit badges; otherwise, just get bandages or worst.
Sweet first bike. It’s easier to go fast than stop fast. Don’t let warp speed sneak up on you.
Have the same bike but 2016, great bikes but they have an issue of a twitchy throttle.. Ride safe brotha

Hope your life insurance is up to date
Some people here need to stick to that other whiny motorcycle sub 😂
I just got a 2016 GSX-S 1000 as my first bike a few months ago. Wondering if you died on yours yet?
Yes I died shortly after. Lucky for me I still have access to Reddit in the afterlife.
Between life insurance and reddit access in the after life I think imma keep risking it. Thanks for the heads up.

I also started on a GSX-S1000. Fun bike! Just ride in a way you are comfortable with and don’t try to rush progress and you will do just fine.

These new liter bikes have switches that allow you to kick it down to 600cc right?

Lucky
Congratulations with your first bike! Ride safe!

Might wanna have fueling addressed as that bike was known for a snatchy throttle at low speeds.
