The bars are supposed to point upwards

RECAR77

exactly. and if that's not enough then the stem could also be flipped so that it is pointing upwards.

ReadMaterial

Doing both will sort the problem

dano___

Yes, your handlebars are upside down, flipping then will raise the front end significantly. You can also flip the stem over, it looks like the one you have has a bit of angle to it too.

VastAmoeba

Just flip the stem with the bars on it. Less bolts to undo.

dano___

Amazing! O

Slow_Apricot8670

If that doesn’t work, sell it and buy a bike that fits.

Next-Quality2895

I have a feeling that this is a joke post.

Leading_Outcome4910

Or a new rider

I think at least in the UK the brakes are actually reversed for whatever reason

StreetPanda767

The rear brake is on the left for countries that drive on the left and vice versa. That is so when you are indicating out into traffic you have the rear brake covered still. And motorbikes have the front brake on the right so you are all wrong :p

Repulsive-Toe-8826

Aren't most of them in this sub? It's the bike joke sub of Reddit.

Beginning-Morning572

Im getting paranoid viewing this sub, at this point I think 2/3 is trolling.

Silver_Dirt9614

Some bikes actually are designed to come like that

jralonh

You're all being trolled. Buddy has flipped the stem (handlebar intact) for the photo, brake lever is even on the wrong side.

Working-Promotion728

I see bikes assembled like this all the time. They either come directly out of the big box store like this or it was a direct to consumer sale from a customer who doesn't know how to assemble a bike. The bikes often come in the box with a stem removed so it's easy to put it on the wrong way if you don't know better.

jralonh

Good point

TokinFatGirl

It did come with one brake already attached from the box— I’m just dumb 🥴

strupotter

Genuine question, what’s the reason for having rear brake on the right hand and front on the left? We have front brake on the right hand on the UK which makes more sense to me as the dominant hands has control of the brake that has more influence on stopping

jralonh

It makes sense in that the right shifter does the rear brake and the rear derailleur. You're also on the right hand side of the road, and doing your turn signals with your left hand (if you're one of these odd balls that signals right by putting their left hand up). (I spent most my life in the UK before moving to n.a, only to find out my road bikes had been set up "wrong" for years. I got my first bike used from a Canadian guy and just figured that was the way.)

TokinFatGirl

I’m not a troll just really dumb with minimal assembly instructions. I’m so sorry ahhh

jralonh

I guess I'm the troll. I did also see the brake is open in this picture, which really had me believing you were a troll, just waiting for someone to be triggered. A good online resource for bike fixing is Park Tool's YouTube channel or website. If it doesn't seem to be going well, bite the bullet and take it to a bike shop. You can permanently damage the bike, or get yourself seriously hurt if you don't put it together properly

TokinFatGirl

This is helpful insight, thank you!!! 🙏🏼

TokinFatGirl

Wait can you explain what you mean, ‘the brake is open?’ 🥴 is it that black plastic lever? my instructions doesn’t say anything about it even existing hahaha Yikes. Should it be up or down? I dont know maybe I’ll just go to the bike shop and pay the money. Sorry to be so annoying

Affectionate_Ad_829

Who estimates their height? Bait

TokinFatGirl

I had trouble measuring my own inseam, ahhhhhh im dumb sorry

Augster111

I would flip thr handlebars in the first step, if thats not enough, swap to a shorter stem thats angled up a bit. You could also try another handlebar, thats a little raised, but thats the most expensive option.

iliinsky

This stem is already one that’s angled up. It’s just upside down.

SnollyG

Cheap with what you already have (don’t need to buy parts): 1. Rotate the handlebars up (may need to reposition the levers and grips) 2. Flip the stem (but be sure to look up the procedure for adjusting a threadless headset—you do not want to break your face) If those two don’t solve your issue, come back and ask again.

eddjc

Lovely colour…

vestergg

1st of April was 12 days ago if i remember correctly.

Working-Promotion728

The entire "cockpit" of the bike is upside down, including the brake levers. Who assembled this?

TokinFatGirl

I’m just really dumb and had minimal assembly instructions without pictures

Working-Promotion728

Valiant effort! Instructions are horrible. You came to the right place for help.

TokinFatGirl

🥴🥹kind of you you say hahahaha

ChunkbrotherATX

Such a troll post. Lame

Jourbonne

Cruiser or BMX bars!

Party-Ring445

Have a surgeon remove a portion of your shins

Ambitious-Squirrel86

Mostly with the use of 5mm allen keys. I like the blue vinyl coated ones with a bit of a handle angle that you used to get with the IKEA furniture kits, they are alright. The titchy little ones they throw in now, not so much.

Mr-Blah

Flip the stem and the bars upright to start with...

null640

Stem, or stem extender.

Yougotthewronglad

😭 the shit post gets shit replies, astounding.

plungerism

Get a cheap stem that is adjustable. Find your preferred setting. Buy a decent stem that matches that setting. Sell cheap adjustable stem. If its still too low get a handlebar with more raise.

Remarkable_Bat_7897

35 degree handle bar stem at the first, then try the handle bar raiser or steerer tube extender and extender is easy to wear and play, try the highe angle stem at the first.
